A 21-foot boat ran out of fuel while traveling through the waters of southeastern Alaska. Now, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg is under fire as his private yacht was reportedly closer than the vessel that ultimately came to help.
According to the Alaska Beacon, vessel-tracking data showed Zuckerberg's 387-foot superyacht, Launchpad, was near Farragut Bay when the ***** istance request went out.
It seems that Launchpad did not ***** ist, but a 192-foot cruise ship called Wilderness Legacy turned back instead, towed the small boat into Farragut Bay, and provided fuel.
A passenger on the cruise ship claimed the yacht repeatedly refused to respond, while Zuckerberg's spokesperson said its crew did not initially hear the radio request.

Greg Wilfert said he initially thought he was caught in the propeller of a boat.

The Los Angeles Lakers will enter the 2026-27 NBA season with almost a brand-new roster, and ESPN's Malika Andrews thinks they'll take a step back from last season. When discussing whether the Lakers or the Boston Celtics will exceed expectations on NBA Today, Andrews revealed she expects them to be in the same boat.
"I see both of these teams as having actually fairly similar paths," Andrews said. "They're both going to be fighting to be sort of in that top six, maybe in danger of falling out of that top six in the league."
Now, the Lakers haven't finished outside the top four in the Western Conference since JJ Redick took over as head coach in 2024. They were the third seed in 2024-25 with a 50-32 record and the fourth seed in 2025-26 with a 53-29 record.

It may have taken decades, but Heather Locklear and Lorenzo Lamas have finally fallen into one another's arms. Sadly, love doesn't pay the bills, which is something Lamas, who rose to fame starring in nine seasons of "Falcon Crest" and five seasons of "Renegade," needed to learn the hard way. Lamas found himself in a financial pickle when the roles started to dry up, and with added divorce costs and Lamas' many ex-wives who came calling for their alimony, he was out $6,123 a month. On top of that was the cost of raising six children, and it didn't help that the actor had expensive habits. When he filed for bankruptcy in 2004, Lamas was over $600,000 in debt, with items like his Harley-Davidson, Hummer, and private plane hanging over his head.
Lamas filed for bankruptcy a second time in 2014. Where the actor had over $400,000 in ***** ets in '04, in the '14 listing, he was down to just $9,100, with only $430 in the bank. The good news was that his debt had been cut in half. The bad news was that even half the debt was still over $300,000. The "Bold and the Beautiful" star opened up on "Oprah: Where Are They Now" (via HuffPost), saying, "My greatest regret would be that I took my success for granted, because it was given to me at such a young age. I thought my acting career was going to just last forever ..." But the star wasn't going to sit around and wait to see what would happen. When Formula E launched in Beijing in 2014, it arrived with a clear mission. Electric racing was intended to demonstrate that battery-powered vehicles could be exciting, fast and commercially viable while promoting a cleaner future for transport. More than a decade later, the landscape has changed dramatically. Electric vehicles are now a mainstream product in many markets, China has become the global center of EV innovation, and conversations around climate change have entered a more fractious mode. The newest electric racing championship, E1, finds itself entering the market at a very different moment. The series, featuring all-electric hydrofoiling RaceBird boats competing in waterfront cities around the world, still promotes clean technology, but its leadership increasingly believes that sustainability is no longer enough to capture public attention. Instead, E1's future may depend on demonstrating that electric propulsion simply delivers a better experience. I talked to E1 (and Formula E) founder Alejandro Agag, Sports.com Predict Team Miami pilots Timmy Hansen and Rianna O'Meara-Hunt, and Sports.com Predict Team Miami team principal Steve Curtis. They described a championship that is rapidly evolving from an environmental showcase into one of the world's most technically fascinating forms of motorsport.
Agag has spent much of his career launching new forms of electric motorsport. Having founded Formula E before turning his attention to Extreme E and now E1, he has witnessed first-hand how attitudes towards electrification have changed. "When we launched Formula E electric was the future," says Agag. "Manufacturers were going full electric. Mercedes came in, BMW, and Audi."
Today, Agag believes the public conversation has moved on. "Sustainability has really lost a lot of its attraction, which is a pity, because the climate problem has not changed, it's worse than before," says Aga. "Activists have been incredibly bad for the cause. To destroy a piece of art or to block a highway has exactly the opposite effect. It really repels people. It produces a divorce between the public and sustainability, because those activists wrongly embody environmentalism."

Cash flow is what retirees can expect from Verizon Communications stock. They can generate a boatload of it from the stock's lavish dividend, which yields close to 6.1%. It's a payout that almost seems too good to be true for a top telecom stock. The stock has risen 14% this year and has begun to rally after a pullback that spanned multiple years. Rising interest rates have weighed on many telecom stocks, even though their underlying businesses remain sound. Verizon is a prime example of that.
The business pays its shareholders a ton of cash and also generates plenty of it. In the trailing 12 months, Verizon's free cash flow has totaled more than $20 billion, easily enough to cover the roughly $12 billion it paid in dividends during that period. That also puts it in an excellent position to raise its cash dividend payments in the future.

A lot has happened since September, when National Women's Soccer League commissioner Jessica Berman said she intended to stay with the league.
In November, the NWSL announced her three-year contract extension, keeping Berman in the role through the 2028 season. Before the ink on her contract was dry, the league introduced the High Impact Player rule, in part, to keep Trinity Rodman, one of its most marketable players, stateside. It welcomed two new franchises, Boston Legacy and Denver Summit, to play in March, postponed potential calendar-flip discussions until 2030, launched a new footwear exposure policy and most recently terminated its short-lived streaming agreement with Victory+.
Through the first 15 weeks of the season, NWSL matches averaged 11,174 fans, the second-highest attendance average in league history — behind the 2024 season, which finished with an average of 11,249 spectators.
Expansion clubs in particular have helped fuel those numbers. Denver opened its inaugural season before more than 63,000 spectators, while Boston attracted approximately 30,000 for its debut. Gotham FC hosted more than 42,000 fans for its match at Citi Field, a one-off game against the Washington Spirit at the home of the New York Mets.
Berman, however, is more interested in median attendance as a sign that a "rising tide is lifting all boats."

Rihanna and A$AP Rocky turned a Crop Over cruise in Barbados into an unusually public display of affection as the couple danced together in the middle of a packed celebration.
Footage from the boat showed Rihanna bending forward and dancing against Rocky as he stood directly behind her. Both laughed through the moment while other passengers watched and recorded them.
Rihanna later shared clips from the outing through her Instagram Stories. In one video, she noticed a nearby man watching the couple, zoomed in on his expression and added the caption, "My x in the studio."
The Stories have since expired, but footage from the celebration was reposted by several entertainment and social-media accounts.

(NewsNation) — A report from the United Cajun Navy includes photos of the three boats Nolan Wells' friends took to the island, according to TMZ.
TMZ released the report, which comes as an investigation into the 18-year-old football player's death continues. Wells was last seen on July 4 after traveling to Mississippi's Horn Island with friends. His body was found two days after he was reported missing.
The boats in the photo include the Triton, which took on water before leaving. Wells' friend, Warren Hudson, says the group begged Wells to return with them, but he decided to stay behind. The report states the boat left at 4:31 p.m.
Flock camera contracts canceled in 23 jurisdictions
The photo was taken by Katelynn Brochard, the report states. According to the report, Brochard said Wells was nowhere in sight when her group left around 7:30 p.m.

Callum Turner is revealing a piece of wisdom George Clooney shared with him as he started to become a Hollywood leading man.
"Every time I get to be in a movie and then being able to celebrate a film with everyone here, I always watch the premiere," he told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the Aug. 3 premiere of his new movie "One Night Only" in New York City.
The "Eternity" actor, 36, explained that after he worked with Clooney, 65, on the 2023 film "The Boys in the Boat," they attended multiple premieres together. By the third, Turner decided he would go home after the red carpet before the "Ocean's Eleven" star convinced him to stay.
"He went, 'Why are you leaving?' And I said, 'Well, because I've seen it already, and twice,' and he said, Yeah, but you'll never get this opportunity again,'" Turner explained. "This is the moment to celebrate, and celebrate the work, and the work of everyone on the crew and beyond. I love these moments. They're always pinch-me moments."
Clooney directed the biographical sports drama portraying the true story of the University of Washington rowing team competing for gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin at the height of the Great Depression. Turner played Joe Rantz, a strong rower who was abandoned by his father.

Polish open-water swimmer Bartlomiej Kubkowski has swum across the Baltic Sea from Sweden to Poland. The 160-kilometre journey took him 55 hours.
The 31-year-old started his swim from Kåseberga in Sweden on Friday. On Sunday evening, he staggered ashore, completely exhausted, in Dziwnow, Poland, east of Świnoujście, according to footage that his team took to document the swim.
In between lay more than two days and two nights, during which Kubkowski battled against waves, wind and the cold. He did not touch the support boat, did not go ashore anywhere nor did he rest.
The swimmer, nicknamed 'Robbe', was fed food and drink on skewers by his support team. During the second night, Kubkowski suffered from hallucinations at times, as his team reported on Instagram. Yet, cheered on by his fans, he made it to the finish line.
The extreme crossing, known as the Ultra Baltic Swim, was for a good cause with Kubkowski raising funds for the Cancer Fighter Foundation.

INDIAN RIVER — Unprecedented times have seemingly become the norm.
From a pandemic and shutdowns, to a once in a lifetime ice storm and the recent spring floods that brought on a state of emergency and left many in Northern Michigan again dealing with loss.
The recent regional flooding hit the lakes and rivers of the Inland Waterway notably hard, stretching from Crooked Lake to the Cheboygan River, while leaving something like the annual Top O'Michigan Marathon Nationals in doubt.

As they have each day of practice, cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and wide receiver Rashee Rice took the field with the team in full uniform. Each participated with pads on, although Rice seemed to be held out of 11-on-11, full-team period work against the defense. Sneed seemed to be in the same boat, although I have noted his movement as closer to 100% comparatively to Rice.
While observing the full-team periods, star defensive tackle Chris Jones reminded fans of his dominance with a few disruptive, blow-by snaps.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have really upset the Major League Baseball world with their recent acquisition of ace starter Tarik Skubal.
The Dodgers' X account wrote (earlier on Sunday afternoon) to break the official news:
"The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith."
The ongoing debate across socials is that the Dodgers are the bad guys because they have a much larger amount of financial flexibility. Well, in this instance, any MLB team could have offered the Tigers a similar trade package, but they didn't. Perhaps in fear of losing him to free agency, or the fact that giving up three prospects would hurt the future of their franchises. The two teams in this proverbial boat are the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays.

Guardians of the Wild Card
Following the series victory in the Steel City over another NL Wild Card in the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Dbacks made the last stop on their 4 city road trip, this time facing off against another Wild Card contender in the Cleveland Guardians. While both the Guards and Pirates are trying to make a push for October, they are doing it in entirely different ways as the Snakes would go from facing a top 3 offense OPS wise in all of baseball in the Pirates, to a team that is dead last in the majors in team OPS in the Guardians. Even though the offense in Cleveland is lackluster, they would make up for their lack of offensive production with stellar pitching as their starting staff ranks 6th in baseball in ERA.
The Cleveland staff lived up to their hype in this series, only allowing 3 ER across a combined 17.1 IP and 19 K's, keeping the Diamondbacks offense quiet for the most part. Thankfully the snakes were able to do their damage against the guardians bullpen and steal 2 very crucial games right before the trade deadline.
Speaking of doing damage against a team's bullpen, that's exactly what the Guardians did in Saturday's Game 2 win that saw a combined 20 runs on 30 hits between the 2 teams. Of the 6 runs the Diamondbacks bullpen surrendered this series, 5 of them were in because of Paul Sewald's continued struggles over his last 30 games (more so his last 11 outings). In those last 30 outings for Sewald he has pitched 26.2 innings to the tune of a 7.43 ERA with an opposing slash line of .262/.302/.569 and 9 HR allowed. After this outing in which he failed to record even one out and allowing 5 ER, his ERA on the season is now up to 6.45, which would be the worst ERA in his entire career and his highest since having a 6.07 ERA across 56.1 IP in 2018 with the Mets (13.50 in just 6 IP in 2020 so im not counting that small of a sample size).
These struggles of late had Gabe, Brandon and I asking ourselves if this was the last time we would see Paul Sewald pitch for the Diamondbacks in 2026 and if these struggle of late would put any pressure on DBacks GM Mike Hazen to try to add a high leverage arm to the bullpen before the deadline passes. The three of us were in the same boat in saying that we appreciate and acknowledge that Paul did have some early season success and had a stretch where he was as reliable of a closer as one could ask for (outside of Mason Miller obviously), hitters have finally started to readjust to his approach and that's being shown in not only his career high ERA, but his career high in home runs allowed. It's one thing to struggle against a top offense like Pittsburgh is one thing, but to fail to even record an out against a team who is dead last in OPS out of all 30 Major League teams shows that Pauls time in the desert just might need to come to an end.

Aug. 2—BEMIDJI — The 20th Annual Lake Bemidji
Dragon Boat Festival
saw the Nordic Whitecaps take home the championship race after upsetting a local rowing dynasty.
The rhythmic drumming of the dragon boats filled the air along the shores of Lake Bemidji on Saturday, as a large crowd watched the 11-time champion-winning team, the HydraHeads, finish second to the team they help train in the off-season.
After a day of racing, complete with 11 morning qualifying heats, followed by another 11 in the afternoon, each team's racing times were combined to determine the top finishes of the day — deciding who would race in the division finals for the bronze, silver, gold and championship cups.
