In late September 2026, Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding division secured a US$5.10 billion contract to conduct the refueling and complex overhaul of USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), while also advancing carrier programs and expanding unmanned production capacity across its U.S. facilities.
Together with the Navy order for 10 ROMULUS unmanned surface vessels and the Pocasset unmanned systems campus expansion, these developments highlight how HII is tying long-duration carrier work to growing autonomous maritime capabilities within its Mission Technologies division.
We'll now examine how the Truman overhaul award, alongside new ROMULUS unmanned vessel production, could influence Huntington Ingalls Industries' investment narrative.
Rare earth metals are an input to most high-tech devices, military and defence systems and electric vehicles. The global race is on to secure supply of these critical minerals. Beat the pack to uncover the 33 best rare earth metal stocks of the very few that mine this essential strategic resource.
To own Huntington Ingalls Industries, you need to believe that its multi decade carrier, submarine and unmanned systems backlog can be converted into steadier margins and free cash flow despite current back end loaded cash expectations. The Truman refueling and complex overhaul award reinforces that backlog, but does not remove the near term risk that 2026 free cash flow could miss if contract advances or tax benefits arrive later or smaller than management hopes.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Belgian-born scientist Francis Halzen won the ***** el Prize in physics Tuesday for his efforts to demystify a rare group of neutrinos, tiny cosmic particles that researchers believe offer clues to how the universe evolved.
"It was a great surprise, and I obviously didn't expect it," Halzen said, speaking to the ***** el Physics Committee by phone from Italy, in a call broadcast at the news conference to announce the winner.
Halzen said it was predicted that he would win the prize, but the announcement still made him feel "strange."
"I am working on a proposal, and I hope that this prize will help getting it approved," he said to chuckles from the audience.
Neutrinos are tiny cosmic particles with no electrical charge and extraordinarily small mass, making them difficult to detect. Yet they are everywhere: They spew from stars like the sun, and trillions zip through our bodies every second.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could eventually reconnect with Prince William and Kate Middleton for the sake of their children, a royal expert has claimed. The Sussexes returned to the UK in August, and their move could give Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet more opportunities to build relationships with their royal cousins.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ended their six-year stay in California in August and moved to a non-royal home outside London. The couple reportedly moved partly so Archie and Lilibet could attend school in the UK. However, they have not yet publicly reunited with other members of the Royal Family since returning.
Royal expert Lynn Carratt believes that could eventually change. Speaking exclusively to The Express US, Carratt said a reunion between the Sussexes and the wider Royal Family could become "inevitable." She suggested Harry and Meghan may also want their children to understand more about their family history and royal background.
Carratt said Archie and Lilibet's ages could prompt Harry to reconsider his relationship with Prince William. She noted that as the children grow up, they may ask about their cousins and why they rarely see them. She added that George, Charlotte, and Louis could become part of those conversations as Archie and Lilibet learn more about their father's family. "Who are their cousins? Where do they live? Why don't they see very much of them?" she said.
Harry and William have been estranged for several years, and their relationship worsened after Harry published his memoir, Spare. In the book, Harry made several claims about his relationship with William.

Prince William reportedly labeled Sarah Ferguson a "scheming wretch" and believes she has no place in the royal fold. The remark comes amid reports that Ferguson may be considering publishing a memoir about her married life with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and her experiences behind the palace walls.
While these are only rumors for now, a memoir could reportedly create further challenges for the Palace, especially following the release of Charles Spencer's memoir about Princess Diana.
Prince William reportedly believes that Sarah Ferguson has no place in the royal fold. After the large-scale controversy last year, Ferguson was asked to leave Royal Lodge. Earlier, multiple reports suggested that Ferguson was planning a tell-all memoir, although it was never confirmed. However, now that Charles Spencer's new memoir about Princess Diana is out, it has reportedly taken Ferguson by surprise.
A source told Closer Online that this has reminded her that a memoir of this scale can cause chaos. Prince William is reportedly not happy with the situation, and even urged Charles to remove his uncle's ****** les long before he actually did. When it comes to Ferguson, he allegedly believes that she is a "scheming wretch" and should not be back in the royal fold again.
Although the monarch agrees with this, the situation is reportedly complicated, especially following the controversy surrounding Spencer's memoir. The source said, "They don't need any more enemies, so Sarah may yet get some type of compromise on that basis."

A man who has dedicated his life to raising money for children with life-limiting conditions was left stunned when Tom Cruise walked in during a fake interview.
Lloyd Kembrey, 30, from Bristol, travelled to London believing he was filming a documentary about fundraising, only to be surprised by the actor, who congratulated him on his extreme fundraising challenges.
Cruise said at the meeting, which was staged by the One Show: "I'm here to give you one big thank you. I've done a lot of wild things and stunts, but when I heard about [his] adventure, I just thought, I gotta meet this guy."
Kembrey, who raises money for charity Jessie May, added: "I couldn't believe it. I'm just really grateful."
The trusts' former CEO Daniel Cheesman described Kembrey as a "role model to all of the children and young people that Jessie May supports".

Kim Kardashian has opened up about raising her four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm, as a single mother. During a new interview with The Sunday Times Style, the reality star admitted that she has five nannies, with one on duty and four on rotation, to help look after her kids due to her busy work schedule.
The SKIMS founder explained that she is always available to drop her children to school every day, pick them up, and eat dinner with them. "I think I am an intermediate-strict parent," she shared. "I'm extremely patient and loving. I still have a kid sleep in my bed when they want. I read books with the kids every night."
Kim also shared that she believes it's important to discuss privilege with her children. "It's something I talk to my kids about constantly, about hard work, never taking things for granted, always having gratitude," she said. "I lead by example. I'm really open with them about my work, all of the hard work that I put into my law studies, and they're proud. I think that you can have a big life and still have that spirit in you. But it is more challenging."

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could use a recent security scare near their children's school to support their case for taxpayer-funded protection in the UK, royal author Ingrid Seward claimed. The Sussexes returned to Britain in August and are still waiting for a decision on whether they will receive publicly funded security while they are in the country.
Seward suggested Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may point to the incident when making their case for greater security. Speaking to The Sun's Royal Exclusive, Seward said she believed the couple could use the situation to their advantage. "I do feel certain that they (the Sussexes) probably will use this to try and benefit themselves in some kind of way," she said.
Harry has repeatedly raised concerns about his family's security while in the UK. Seward suggested that his security team would likely have stayed near the school because Harry uses a high level of protection when travelling with his family.
Harry and Meghan are currently waiting to learn whether they will receive taxpayer-funded security while living in the UK. Their security arrangements have remained a major issue since Harry stepped back as a working member of the Royal Family and moved to the US. The Duke has previously challenged decisions surrounding his security protection in Britain.
GB News royal correspondent Cameron Walker also discussed the incident and the security concerns involving Archie and Lilibet. Walker said British publications would generally avoid publishing unauthorized photos of the children. However, he noted that some European outlets could take a different approach.

Sebastian Stan made Fjord before becoming a father. In his latest conversation with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, the actor described returning to the film with a different perspective.
"What are these things that I grew up with that I should pass on to my kid?" he asked, according to Entertainment Weekly. He was also considering which experiences had not served him well and should not be repeated.
Stan, 44, and his partner, actress Annabelle Wallis, welcomed their first child in July. PEOPLE confirmed the birth on Aug. 3; the couple had not shared further details about the baby at that point.
In Cristian Mungiu's drama, Stan and Renate Reinsve play Mihai and Lisbet Gheorghiu. The film won the Palme d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
Mihai is a devout Romanian father who moves with his Norwegian wife and their five children to a remote coastal village. The children become friends with a neighboring family despite differences in their upbringing, while the adults' strict beliefs attract increasing scrutiny, according to NEON's synopsis.

Live long and prosper! William Shatner is determined to keep working for as long as he physically can, a source tells Examiner.
"Bill still has the spark and the playfulness that he had when he came to Hollywood 60-plus years ago," reveals the source. "He loves show business and he loves being famous … [and] has outlived and outlasted just about everybody he came up in the business with."
When asked in 2021 if he planned to retire, the Star Trek actor, 95, told AARP, "Why? What are you gonna retire to? I mean, I don't fish and don't play golf. I ride horses a lot. But what are you going to do? You can't sit and rock."
"The idea of just holing up and fading away behind the walls of an estate, something many of his acting peers wound up doing, is unimaginable to him," admits the source. "Bill is a strong believer in the philosophy of 'use it or lose it.' He firmly believes he would actually damage his health if he were to slow down and live the lifestyle of a retired man!"

Wealthy baby boomers have spent decades building their fortunes—and the foundations, donor-advised funds, and giving traditions that come with them. But as the $124 trillion Great Wealth Transfer gets underway, a growing share of the older generation isn't so sure their kids will carry on tradition the way they hope.
Fewer than half of wealthy Americans (47%) believe the next generation is prepared to take on family philanthropic causes, down from 55% in 2024, according to research from Bank of America released last week. The share of parents who believe their children share their commitment to giving back fell even more sharply to 65% from 76%. The bank surveyed more than 1,430 wealthy individuals in the U.S. aged 21 or older with at least $3 million in investable ******* ets, excluding primary residence.
The confidence gap in philanthropy mirrors a broader anxiety wealth advisors have noticed about whether heirs are ready for any of it.
"This is a very real concern I'm hearing from ultra-affluent families right now," Tom Thiegs, managing director of leadership and legacy at Ascent Private Capital Management with U.S. Bank, told Fortune of parents' fears that wealth could dampen their children's drive. Trent Von Ahsen of Cedar Point Capital Partners also told Fortune his clients are leaning on mentorship and phased wealth transfers rather than lump-sum inheritances.
But the irony is younger donors are, by several of the study's measures, more engaged donors than older generations. Gen Z and millennial donors support an average of 12 charitable causes, compared with eight among wealth donors overall. They're also roughly twice as likely to use a donor-advised fund, and 87% say honoring their family's philanthropic tradition is important. Meanwhile, 86% say it's equally important to establish their own charitable identity.

Saoirse Ronan has insisted the James Bond rumours don't come up home with her husband Jack Lowden.
During an interview with The ****** ociated Press, the Oscar-nominated actress was asked what it was like to live with the Slow Horses actor, given that everyone thinks he'll be the next 007.
The Irish actress insisted the subject doesn't come up much in their day-to-day life as they have other matters to deal with.
"I mean, we're kind of getting on with our life to be honest, we have plenty of other things to be dealing with, so yeah, it's not really a subject that's coming up in our house to be honest," she shared. "The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be made, we're more focused on that."
She added, "Jack's on Slow Horses right now, and he's having a good time on that."
Ronan also quipped that Lowden's co-star Gary Oldman "thinks he's James Bond", after Oldman said in an interview that the next Bond had been picked and his "fingers are crossed" for the Scottish actor. Many people believed the Oscar winner had let slip that Lowden had secured the coveted role.

Sarah Ferguson reportedly wants King Charles and senior royals to "throw her a bone" before she considers other options. The former **** ss of York was said to be delaying a tell-all while hoping for renewed royal acceptance.
A source claimed she still believed there was "a place for her within the royal family." However, the insider warned that continued exclusion could change her position. Her reported strategy mixed loyalty, leverage, and hopes for a royal comeback.
As per a Closer Online report, Sarah reportedly reconsidered her options. The source said Earl Spencer's memoir offered "a good reminder" of the disruption a royal tell-all could create. Moreover, the insider claimed Sarah's long history with the royals gave her considerable material. They said she could potentially do "a lot more damage to the King's legacy" than Spencer. Still, a spokesperson firmly denied a current memoir project. The representative said, "She is not writing a personal memoir."
However, the insider claimed Sarah Ferguson was keeping that possibility available while hoping for another route. The source said she was "holding off on a book deal for now." According to them, Sarah remained convinced "there's still a place for her within the royal family." She reportedly hoped loyalty would persuade King Charles and others to "cut her a break." That could mean "a path back towards respectability" or "at the very least a place to live." Meanwhile, the source said she still had "the tell-all up her sleeve" if that effort failed.
Additionally, the insider claimed Sarah was sending messages toward both Charles and Prince William. She was reportedly "imploring William and Charles to throw her a bone." The source added that she did not want to "go against the family if she can help it." Still, the report said Sarah could pursue other money-making opportunities if reconciliation failed. Those possibilities reportedly included reality television and rebuilding her social media profile. For now, Buckingham Palace had made no direct statement about Sarah. Meanwhile, senior royals had reportedly continued distancing themselves from the former York household.

A royal expert shared that Prince Harry wants to spend as much time as he can with his father, King Charles, now that he has returned to the UK. However, she noted that their extended stay in the country could create challenging times for Meghan Markle. The Sussexes moved to the UK in August 2026, more than a month after their private reunion with King Charles.
Expert Roya Nikkhah shared what she thinks Prince Harry looks forward to now that he's back in the UK for an extended period of time. She said, "I think the jury is out on that. I mean, my sense and my feeling is I do really feel that Harry wants to spend as much time as he can with his father. His father is still receiving cancer treatment."
Nikkhah said she's aware that Prince Harry hasn't yet met his father since he returned. The expert added that Harry feels he can be more effective in the UK over the next year as he prepares for the Invictus Games in Birmingham. Moreover, she believes Harry does want his children to get to know more about the Royal Family and the Spencers.
"I think it's going to be more challenging for Meghan in terms of what she does here in the UK. It always was quite hard for her. She didn't love it and I think it'll be tricky," Nikkhah further added in an interview with Times Radio, explaining why the stay could prove to be challenging for Markle (via The News International).
This news comes amid royal sources having told Naughty But Nice that King Charles does have plans to meet with Markle and Harry before Christmas. They said, "This is not a casual 'let's get together sometime.' ****** ody drops in on the King. If Harry and Meghan are in Charles's diary, it is because he wants them there. This is deliberate."

A recent candid photo of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry going on a lunch date has sparked fresh debate online. The images show the couple holding hands in the Cotswolds, and while most saw a normal couple spending time together, one commentator sees something else in them. He questions how the pictures came about and what they might signal about the Sussexes.
Commentator Link Lauren shared his views in a video clip posted on X where he spoke about the couple's "romantic pub date" and their "first photos together since UK return." Lauren questioned how the photos were taken. "You want me to believe that a photographer just happened to catch you on a little date night in the Cotswolds?" he asked. He said Meghan Markle "allegedly" arranges such moments and also remarked that her face looked "a little bit facetuned."
He then offered his own theory. In his view, the couple licensed the pictures to an agency. "That's what I believe," he said. The commentator also looked at the photographer's website. He said it invites visitors to "earn money" by sending in celebrity photos, videos, and tips. He went on to suggest that Meghan may have even worked with the photographer.
The source noted his interpretation of the strain between the couple. Lauren pointed to Prince Harry's schedule, saying that the Duke of Sussex has appeared at several charity events without Meghan in recent times. "It's pretty much known across the UK at this point in aristocratic circles and the press. They are conscious uncoupling," he claimed.
As a result, Lauren argued that the hand-holding photos were a response to this. Meghan, he said, wanted to be seen "staking her claim" over her husband. Lauren also pointed to the couple's reported plans to split time between the UK and the US. He said that this arrangement made the public display of unity more notable.

Meghan Markle is reportedly taking a strategic approach to As Ever's latest holiday launch after facing setbacks with previous products. The brand founder recently unveiled her first-ever Holiday Advent Calendar in collaboration with Compartés. Priced at $148, the festive box has reportedly generated excitement for Markle, though sources claim she is being particularly calculated with the new release.
Meghan Markle is reportedly "trying to be strategic" with the launch of As Ever's new Holiday Advent Calendar. The official As Ever page recently shared a photo of the festive box, captioning the post, "A little holiday magic is on its way. 24 days of sweet surprises, made for the joy of anticipation."
The Advent Calendar features 24 handcrafted chocolates housed in a designer box inspired by Markle's home and garden in Montecito. The holiday offering is a collaboration with Los Angeles-based chocolatier Compartes, with the chocolates incorporating flavors from As Ever's signature spreads, including strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, and orange marmalade.
Each piece also features a countdown number written in Markle's handwriting and is hand-painted with edible gold **** er. For now, the Advent Calendar is available exclusively for pre-order. A source told Star Magazine that Markle is a fan of delicious, high-quality chocolate.
However, the source noted that advent calendars often contain chocolate that is not particularly high quality. With her latest offering, Markle allegedly believes she has created something "beautiful and festive."

Chris Rock has spoken about his approach to helping people financially, saying he isn't opposed to lending a hand when someone needs it. In one particular situation, however, the actor and comedian chose not to help, which has sparked a strong reaction online. While some people criticized Rock for his decision, others defended his reasoning.

Chris Rock sat down with David Marchese for The New York Times series "The Interview," wherein he discussed his new movie "Misty Green." The conversation touched on cancel culture and forgiveness, and Rock shared a story to make a point.
"When you're Black, white people believe every accusation is a conviction," he said before sharing his story involving Roger Logan, the brother of one of his childhood best friends.
The comedian said Logan was wrongfully convicted of murder, and when his close friend approached him pleading to fund a lawyer to help free his brother, he refused. "I always had, like, a no-lawyer thing because a lawyer is like an open-ended thing," he explained.

Kate Middleton is said to be people's favorite, but she might not be able to outshine one royal family member. According to a royal expert, the Princess of Wales has her own unique ways of handling situations compared to the late Princess Diana. It was said that Prince William's mother had raised the bar too high when it came to charity work and fashion. Hence, Middleton has been compared to her mother-in-law several times.
Kate Middleton could reportedly be under "pressure" because of the late Princess Diana's legacy in the royal family. Royal Expert Ingrid Seward talked about her new book, "Catherine & Diana: The Inside Story of how the Princesses of Wales Shaped the Modern Monarchy," with The Royal Observer. She opened up about her thoughts on the Princess of Wales's similarities and differences with Diana.
Seward believes that the former Princess of Wales' legacy might put "pressure" on Middleton's role in the monarchy. Whether it's about fashion or charity projects, Diana had caught attention every time. During the conversation on "Palace Unfiltered," Seward agreed with the journalist, claiming Middleton's role was the "most pressurized."
"It is a really pressurized, or it's become, let's say, a really pressurized position, and I think that is because of the glamour that Diana gave to this role, and no one's ever outshone her." Furthermore, the expert noted that Middleton has, however, never tried to overshadow her mother-in-law. She reportedly once said that she would "make the role my own."
"And what Catherine's been so clever to do is she's just been different. She hasn't tried to outshine her," the author said. Moreover, Seward addressed Middleton's fashion sense, which also seemed to have often drawn attention.

Ex-Prince Andrew is said to be in surprisingly high spirits, despite the turmoil surrounding him. A friend claims he is certain he will one day be exonerated and has taken on the police in a legal fight over the warrants used in his arrest. As a private court hearing approaches on Thursday, this legal fight is drawing fresh attention.
According to The Sun, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has applied for a judicial review to quash the search warrants that were issued in February. The High Court in London will consider the application in a private hearing soon.
Meanwhile, a friend has described his state of mind to the newspaper. "He seems incredibly buoyant despite everything he has been through and is really upbeat," the friend said. They went on to say: "He is utterly convinced that one day he will be completely exonerated. He thinks this is the first step towards that." The friend also described Andrew as living in relative seclusion on the King's Norfolk estate despite being estranged from other members of the royal family
The warrants stem from Andrew's February 19 arrest, which took place on his 66th birthday. Thames Valley Police arrested him on suspicion of misconduct in public office following allegations involving his dealings with Jeffrey Epstein. Police later searched his cottage on the Sandringham estate and his former home, Royal Lodge in Windsor, and removed evidence.
Despite Andrew's optimism, legal experts, however, are less convinced about this latest challenge. Lawyers quoted by The Sun cast doubt on the case and believe a win may make little difference. Even if the warrants were found to be flawed, police might still keep the evidence. It is also not known whether he will attend Thursday's hearing.

A royal expert claimed that Princess Diana loved King Charles until the very end. Moreover, she reportedly believed their relationship might have worked if they had met when they were a little older. The remark came after Charles Spencer released a memoir about Diana containing several bombshell claims, particularly about the monarch.
Princess Diana allegedly thought she met King Charles "at the wrong time." Ingrid Seward, the royal author, recently spoke about her conversations with Diana and her feelings about Charles with The Royal Observer. The comments come after the release of Charles Spencer's new memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. The book covers Diana's life, her marriage to Charles and the events surrounding her death. Spencer makes several claims about the former Prince of Wales, including allegations about his reaction following Diana's death.
Diana's brother mentioned that Charles sounded "giddily elated" during a phone call following Diana's death. He also wrote that the then-Prince of Wales said people would forget Diana "soon enough." Seward shared her thoughts on the matter and questioned whether Diana would approve of the allegations currently being made about Charles. The royal author said, "[The accusations are] the last thing in the world that Diana ever would have wanted, because she loved Charles. She loved him right until the end."
Seward also said that Diana wished they could have gotten back together. The renowned author said that Diana told her that had they met at the right time, when they were a little older, their relationship might have worked.
After their divorce was finalized in 1996, Seward said Diana and Charles were getting along quite well. She added, "There was a moment of togetherness, and Diana actually said to me, 'It's so sad because we could have conquered the world.'" Charles and Diana tied the knot on July 29, 1981, and had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Their formal separation was announced in 1992, and their divorce was finalized four years later in 1996.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sen. Thom Tillis says in a new book that his deciding vote to confirm Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in January 2025 is the "biggest regret of my career" and that he also "should've stopped" Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from becoming Health and Human Services secretary in the early days of President Donald Trump's second term.
In "How to Lose Friends and Antagonize Presidents," to be published Tuesday, the North Carolina senator defends his decision at the time to not be "the lone voice in the wilderness" preventing Trump's nominees from confirmation. But Tillis makes clear he was always skeptical of allegations about Hegseth's turbulent management style, treatment of women and excessive drinking. Hegseth denied all the allegations.
"I know for a fact that there are others like me," Tillis writes, "Republicans who agreed to go along with the early demands of the Trump team no matter how ridiculous they were, believing that failing to do so would mean the end of their political career, and who now see that things have gone way too far."
He writes that he can count at least 30 of his GOP colleagues who have "expressed reservations (to put it mildly) about many of the president's actions in private. Then, when the reporters showed up with their cameras and microphones, they'd have nothing but nice things to say."
Tillis, who announced last year that he would not run for reelection in a "breaking point" with the president on his sweeping tax and spending cuts package, is publishing the book in his final months in office. He joins a long list of Republicans who have ratcheted up their public denunciations of Trump once they had less to lose politically.

The issue of Daniel Penny, the center of a New York City vigilante case in which he unintentionally ended the life of Jordan Neely following a subway confrontation, is the focus of a new book. Frequent MS NOW guest Anand Giridharadas is out promoting his work, Man in the Mirror.
His interviews seen during the media promotional tour do not give the impression of an unbiased approach to this topic. Instead of describing core facts and the details that pertain to the confrontation on the New York subway car, Giridharadas delivers what sounds more like a college term paper-level of pontificating.
Sitting with Christiane Amanpour, the Heat Miser-coiffed Anand offers up a theory that Neely, Penny, and others on the subway car were experiencing something that is felt across the country:
Jordan Neely, you know, a mentally ill, homeless man, felt abandoned by the systems of care. Daniel Penny felt abandoned by a lack of police and a lack of law enforcement that forced him, in his mind, to step up and step in. The passengers on that train…spoke of their own sense of abandonment and kind of being left to their own devices. And, Christiane, I think that sense of abandonment, that sense that the cavalry's not coming, the sense that we're on our own, the sense that maybe somebody does something because no one who should be doing anything is doing anything. I believe, Christiane, that is the defining political emotion of this age. It is maybe the most dangerous emotion in a democracy, because it starts to tempt people with the thought that if ******* ody's coming, I must fill the void. In this case, it was Daniel Penny filling a void in a subway in New York.
This is the selling of the concept that we need government in more, if not all, aspects of our lives. If Jordan Neely had been given proper mental healthcare and housing, if there had been police on that train car, if Daniel Penny had not felt abandoned by authorities, this tragedy would not have played out. If every person in the country is cared for by the government, we will have no problems!

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admits "something's clearly not working" with the artificial intelligence money that has flooded the midterm elections — and he doesn't expect President Donald Trump's rebrand of the technology to improve his industry's image with the American public, either.
"I get why AI has a really negative perception right now," Altman told Brendan Bordelon in an exclusive interview marking the launch of Decoded by POLITICO. "I don't think spending money on politics is what's going to make people feel better about it. The industry needs to figure out a way to address what the actual concerns are, and right now, a lot of people in the industry are being quite tone deaf."
In the wide-ranging conversation, Altman offered a window into how OpenAI is confronting new political pressures and intensified competition with Anthropic, its corporate archrival run by former employee Dario Amodei.
Altman says OpenAI is more tolerant than Anthropic of less-than-catastrophic harms from AI, drawing out what he sees as a fundamental split in worldview between the two leading labs even as they converge on tougher rules in the wake of high-profile autonomous hacking incidents.
"We believe that the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits of this technology and people having the agency," said Altman, who characterized those harms as linked to "the lighter touch regulatory stance that we advocate for."

A source has claimed that Prince William does not believe Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's UK stay will "last." The news comes amid renewed focus on the Sussex family's recent return to Britain. The couple is once again making headlines as their ongoing issues over security continue to draw attention.
Prince William has reportedly delivered a harsh ****** sment of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's future in Britain. As speculation grows that the pair are considering a move back to America, the Duke's estranged elder brother has reportedly shared his view on the matter.
According to a source who spoke to Closer, the Prince of Wales doubts that the Sussexes will remain in the UK for much longer. They said, "William doesn't believe they'll even last another six months. He's counting on them giving up and moving back to America as soon as they realise they can't just bulldoze their way into getting everything they want."
They added that the heir to the throne is staying away from the security row. He reportedly believes that Harry would use any intervention of his against him. The Prince is steering clear of it and trusting those in charge to make the right decision.
The insider further noted, "It's very hard for William to watch his father being so soft on them. He truly cannot understand why Charles is giving them so much latitude after everything that's happened."

A TikTok posted by creator eriniveson on July 14, 2026, shows her describing punishments she says her parents used during her childhood. The video drew over 8.7 million views and about 1.1 million likes at the time of publication.
The creator, who grew up with her mother and stepdad, begins with a trigger warning before describing what she calls "completely legal things" her parents did. "The things that I'm gonna tell you in this video are just downright cruel," she said.
She said that when something broke and no one confessed, the siblings lined up, and whoever was responsible took the punishment while the others watched. The TikToker said she often took the blame for her younger sisters so they would not get in trouble. She recalls that her stepdad usually did not carry out the corporal punishment himself, but had her mother do it when she was home and stood by to supervise.
She said her room was searched regularly. "Privacy was a privilege, not a right," she said. After her stepbrother lost $5, her parents believed she had taken it, emptied her drawers onto the floor, and made her clean up.
Even doing chores had strict rules. "Do it right or do it twice," the creator remembered. She put away dishes that had spots from the dishwasher, so her mother, who collected antique china, emptied every cabinet and buffet, and the TikToker said she had to hand-wash and dry all of it.

Internet personality and streamer Meep (meepiosaurus) revealed that she was married at 19. It wasn't a fairy tale, and she told TikTok about the red flags leading up to her wedding.
"At this moment, I was separating myself from my family," Meep prefaced her story. Now divorced, she claimed her husband "wasn't the best" in terms of character. Furthermore, she alleged that he had been physically abusive but didn't go into detail about it.
"The beginning of that pattern starts with them taking you away from your family and your friends, kind of ostracizing you from your support system," she alleged. A former prosecutor has also described dangerous men and the characteristics they have in common. Meep now recognizes the pattern, but couldn't when she was 19.
"So, I remember my dad and I were besties at the time, and I started really detaching myself from him. Stopped going to therapy," Meep said. At the time, she was supposed to be tested for bipolar disorder, but didn't push through. She told her dad she was getting married the next day while they were in a parking lot.
"I remember it was one of those conversations that was heavy, okay? And I could tell there was something more happening in that conversation, and it was something I wasn't picking up on," Meep recalled. She said she knew she was making a mistake, and her father also advised her. He allegedly told her not to sign any contract that indicated she was married to her then-boyfriend. Meep believes her dad saw through her boyfriend and thought he was taking advantage of her.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly worry that Prince William and Kate Middleton are damaging their reputation among Hollywood's biggest names. The concerns follow William and Kate's high-profile appearance with Tom Cruise at the London premiere of "Digger," where a source claimed the Waleses are using their celebrity connections to "one-up" the Sussexes.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's appearance alongside Tom Cruise at the London premiere of his new film "Digger" reportedly upset Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. According to the National Examiner, the Duke and **** ss of Sussex believe William and Kate deliberately highlighted their friendship with Cruise to provoke them. "They are both convinced that William and Kate made an extra big show of their friendship with Tom Cruise to try to upset them and it worked," the source claimed.
Harry and Meghan reportedly wanted to build strong relationships in Hollywood after leaving royal duties and moving to the US. The source claimed they wanted Cruise to show them the same level of attention he has reportedly shown William and Kate. The insider also claimed that Harry and Meghan expected to join Hollywood's elite social circle after moving to America, but their experience has not matched those expectations.
The source claimed Harry and Meghan worry that they have struggled to build the A-list connections they once expected. According to the insider, their concerns now extend beyond William and Kate's growing relationships with celebrities. "They've gone back to England with their tails between their legs and they're now having to watch William and Kate parading around on the red carpet like a couple of Hollywood stars," the source alleged.
The insider said the situation feels particularly frustrating for the Sussexes because they had hoped to build a life and network in Hollywood. The individual further claimed that Harry and Meghan worry they have become less welcome in A-list circles on both sides of the Atlantic. "In some ways that's even more upsetting because they feel like William and Kate are running a smear campaign against them," the source concluded.

Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK, the Royal Family's response, or a lack thereof, has drawn plenty of attention. Prince William and Kate Middleton, however, have said nothing in public about the Sussexes. While some reports describe that silence as indifference, one PR expert reads it very differently, and her view shifts the focus from feelings to observable behaviour.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK in late August with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Since then, Prince William and Kate Middleton have stayed quiet, and according to reports, the brothers have no contact, despite living in the same country again.
It had earlier been reported that the Prince and Princess of Wales have "stopped caring," and are practicing indifference. The same report states that Kate is not "sitting around talking about Meghan." It stresses that this does not mean a reconciliation has taken place.
Now, PR specialist Grayce McCormick of Lightfinder Public Relations has offered a different reading to The Mirror. She cautions against calling the couple "indifferent." Doing so, she says, ******* igns an emotional state to people "based largely on unnamed sources and outward behavior." McCormick explains that silence can signal "boundaries, discipline, fatigue, acceptance or simply a decision not to participate publicly." It does not reveal what someone feels privately, she adds.
The expert also draws on her own client work. According to her, responding to every headline gives a story "more oxygen." McCormick points to the "illusory truth effect," in which repeated information can become more believable through repetition. She believes that in royal coverage, speculation can often harden into perceived fact.

An expert believes that Prince William may not be pleased with Charles Spencer's new book about Princess Diana. The memoir, "Swan Song: Diana, My Sister," reportedly contains explosive claims about King Charles and the royal family. The Earl also offers a remorseful reflection on William, then 15, and Harry, then 12, walking behind their mother's coffin, recalling how strongly he opposed the arrangement at the time.
Royal experts have weighed in on how Prince William might be feeling about the new Princess Diana book. They claim that the royal heir has faced a significant repercussion following the release of Earl Spencer's bombshell memoir.
While it honored the late royal, the book also made serious allegations that could have consequences for the monarchy. Among them is a striking claim against King Charles. It is alleged that he sounded "giddily elated" and reacted like a "lottery winner" upon learning of his ex-wife's death.
As per the Daily Express, despite Charles Spencer's accusations, Prince William has remained silent on the matter. Reports indicate that his uncle gave him advance notice weeks before, with the wider public learning about it on the same day.
Discussing the situation surrounding the royal heir, Matt Wilkinson, The Sun's royal editor, stated on the Royal Exclusive show: "I just think it's unfair that he (William) gets dragged into it. I think it's unfair that his work and his engagements are being brought into this book by his uncle, and he wasn't told what was in it."
