NEW YORK - George Lombard Jr. is not in Sunday's Yankees lineup, but the hope is that he's day-to-day with right knee inflammation.
The rookie shortstop exited Saturday's second game of a doubleheader after three innings, having twisted awkwardly on a check swing in his first at-bat.
An MRI taken late Saturday showed no structural damage. Lombard wasn't sure if he'd be an available player Sunday.

Aug. 29— The Southland football team started this season where their last one ended, but the result was much different this time around.
After being knocked out of the Section 1A playoffs by Lewiston-Altura in 2026, the Rebels scored a revenge win and beat the Cardinals 48-22 in a zero week game in Lewiston Friday night.
The game was tied at 22 late in the second quarter when Henry Wiste found Tate Goergen for a 15-yard score to give the Rebels (1-0 overall) a 28-22 halftime edge.
Wiste, who threw two TDs and ran for three scores, hit Lucas Boe for an 11-yard TD in the third quarter and Cael Smith ran an interception back 51 yards for a TD to make it 42-22 Southland.

Jamal Musiala used to be the fun, new at Bayern Munich that could do no wrong. He twisted and turned past all the defenders with his mesmerizing dribbling and dazzled the crowds with the #42 on his back.

What I say about myself carries more weight than what others say. That naturally influences your self-image. When I make a mistake and then dwell on it too much, it doesn't help me. I try to stay calm and keep a cool head."
Bayern Munich will hope Musiala can take that cool head and use it to catch fire in the 2026/27 season. Of course, the recent developments with his "neurological absences" have cause concern for fans, but Musiala appears confident that he can overcome the ailment and get back to his old self soon.

Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette missed Friday night's preseason game with what head coach Dave Canales described as a foot and ankle injury.
Legette had his ankle rolled up on in practice on Wednesday, and Canales said the Panthers don't know definitively how much time he'll miss.
"He got his ankle twisted up, he has some soreness in his foot, so we evaluated him," Canales said. "Right now we're going to get him back going little by little. Hopefully we'll see him at the end of this week, but I can't tell you exactly when he'll be back, but we'll just have to take it day by day and go with whatever is happening in his foot."
The Panthers took Legette in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, and through two seasons he's been a disappointment, with just 84 catches for 860 yards and seven touchdowns in 31 games. Legette acknowledged in June that he can't have another year like he had last year. To have a better year, Legette needs to get healthy and stay healthy.

For the second straight preseason contest, the Carolina Panthers decided to roll out their starters for a little action. But not all of the first-stringers got out on the field at EverBank Stadium on Friday.
Outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips, inside linebacker Devin Lloyd and wide receiver Xavier Legette were among the 12 Panthers who were ruled out prior to kickoff against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Head coach Dave Canales, following his team's 34-17 win, would explain why.
"There were a few guys who had some soreness. We were gonna be sensitive with some of those guys—particularly Jaelan Phillips, Devin Lloyd," Canales told reporters. "Felt great finishing after the [joint] practice, but had a couple of other things sore. We just decided to hold them out."
Canales was then asked about Legette—who, along with his civilians, was sporting a boot on his right foot.
"He got his ankle twisted up. He has some soreness in his foot," he replied. "So, we evaluated him. Right now, we're just gonna get him back going little by little. And hopefully, we'll see him at the end of this week.

De'Zhaun Stribling's first NFL action doubled as a reality check he set for himself, even after he had a great debut.
The San Francisco 49ers' second-round pick led the team in the preseason opener against the ******* ans, catching seven of eight targets for 63 yards. The signature moment came on third-and-5 in the second quarter, when Stribling twisted through contact for a 32-yard gain to move the chains.
Despite the success, Stribling wasn't ready to call it a finished product. Speaking with Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein after the game, the rookie receiver pointed to a few areas he can shore up as he continues his NFL journey.
"A lot of things I can clean up," Stribling said. "A lot of things I can be better at [with my] route running and then details of the offense."

Sri Lanka batter Dinesh Chandimal was taken to hospital for precautionary scans after suffering an awkward fall while attempting to save a boundary during India's second innings on Day 4 of the first Test at the Galle International Stadium on Tuesday. The incident occurred during the fourth over of India's second innings when Chandimal sprinted from deep midwicket towards deep square leg to stop a shot from KL Rahul.

Chandimal managed to save two runs but tumbled awkwardly after crossing the boundary. His body twisted over his upper body during the fall, leaving him in visible discomfort.

The Sri Lankan batter was seen clutching his right shoulder, head and neck immediately after the incident. He was ******* sed on the field by the Sri Lankan team doctor and physiotherapist before gingerly walking off the ground. He was subsequently taken to hospital for precautionary scans. Former child star Hayden Panettiere has died at 36. While the actor is perhaps best known for her roles in TV series like Heroes, where she played an indestructible cheerleader, and Nashville, where she portrayed a rising country star, to horror fans, she'll forever be known as one of the Scream franchise's most iconic final girls, Kirby Reed.
Scream 4 marked Panettiere's first appearance in the film franchise. Her character was a cool Woodsboro High School student who sported a pixie cut and could rattle off horror film trivia. Her passion for horror was central to the movie's final act, in which her character is caught by Ghostface and forced to play one of his twisted games. Ultimately, she is stabbed by one of the Ghostface killers and left for dead.
Kirby's fate was never revealed in that movie, and fans always hoped that she would return to the franchise in a sequel. In 2022, the long-anticipated Scream premiered as both a sequel and a reboot of the franchise, but Panettiere did not appear in the film. Her fate was revealed through an Easter egg in the movie, when a character is looking at a YouTube page and an interview with Kirby, a survivor of the Woodsboro stabbing, appears.

"We wanted to answer the Kirby question in some way from the beginning," co-director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin told Nerdist in 2022. "We just didn't really know what that would be. Charles Johnson turned in one of the rarest submissions in UFC history earlier tonight (Sat., Aug. 15, 2026) at UFC 330 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia, Penn., as the flyweight veteran spoiled Eduardo Chapolin's Octagon debut with a third-round Scottish twister.
This is only the second Scottish twister in UFC history. The first occurred earlier this year at UFC Vegas 119 courtesy of Murtazali Magomedov (watch it HERE).
Johnson, who was originally expected to fight Jose Ochoa before the latter pulled out, had no issue accepting Chapolin on short notice. Oddsmakers had the flyweight bout almost even, but most expected Chapolin to deliver a memorable UFC debut. Unfortunately for Chapolin, Johnson once again proved he's one of the toughest outs in the division and a true prospect killer Remember, "Inner G" has knockout wins over the likes of Joshua Van and Lone'er Kavanagh.
The fight was an entertaining back-and-forth offering both striking and grappling. Chapolin was deducted a point in the first round for an illegal knee and eye poke, but they weren't enough to stop Johnson from continuing the fight. Good thing he did because Johnson was able to drag Chapolin to deep water and take his back early into the third round. Chapolin dropped to the canvas and during the transition Johnson was able to lock up the twister and force the stoppage. It was sensational.

On the UFC 330 prelims Saturday at Xfinity Mobile Arena, Charles Johnson topped off a thrilling 130-pound catchweight bout with a third-round Scottish twister submission win over days' notice fill-in Eduardo Chapolin. The stoppage came at 1:36 of Round 3.
Although Johnson (20-9 MMA, 9-7 UFC) walked away victorious, the win didn't come easy. Chapolin (15-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) proved to be a worthy test and will be one UFC fans circle on the bout sheet whenever he returns with a full camp.
Chapolin flowed well in the early stages of the fight, though he fouled Johnson with an illegal knee that resulted in a point deduction from referee Jason Herzog. The second round turned into a bit of a banger, with both men showcasing the elite speed and technical abilities the UFC's lightest male division is known for.
After the win, Johnson dedicated the performance to Allan Nascimento, the UFC flyweight fighter who died earlier in August from a heart attack. Johnson was originally scheduled to face Nascimento's teammate Jose Ochoa on the card, but Ochoa withdrew earlier in fight week.

As Chapolin tried to reverse positions, Johnson made him pay by immediately grabbing onto the Scottish twister with the tap coming just seconds later.
The official stoppage came at 1:36 in the third round.
"That's my ****** ," Johnson said about his submission finish. "I've been training diligently. We worked our ****** off. I kind of made him feel he could turn in and I had it."

Indiana Fever fans held their collective breaths on Friday night during the team's 98-87 win over the Dallas Wings: With under a minute to go in the second quarter, she appeared to be limping after stepping on the foot of Wings forward Alysha Clark. She headed back to the locker room despite the fact that the quarter wasn't over.
But Clark returned for the third quarter and finished out the game with an incredible stat line (see below). She had come into the game probable with a back injury as well.
After the game, she delivered her own injury update, via the Indianapolis Star: "I just landed on her foot. I feel good, and obviously I was moving perfectly fine, so I'll ice it and be good to go."

Amanda Knox is taking her story to a comedy stage in Edinburgh, nearly two decades after the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher thrust her into an international media frenzy.

The SEC is home to 10 live mascots after welcoming Oklahoma and Texas to the conference in 2024. The conference has some of the most unique traditions and best mascots in all of sports.
Four dog mascots represent the most popular type of live mascot in the SEC. The SEC has three teams (Auburn, Missouri and LSU) with Tiger mascots, but LSU is the only one with a live Tiger mascot.
Across the conference, most programs established traditions with mascots long ago, but some mascots are more recent. The most memorable mascot moments in SEC history have to be when Texas mascot Bevo attempted to gore Uga at the Sugar Bowl and when Uga lunged and tried to bite Auburn receiver Robert Baker in 1996.
Someone had to be last. Sooner Schooner is a tongue-twister and started in 1964. The Sooner Schooner became Oklahoma's official mascot in 1980. We like the tradition of the Sooner Schooner and like the horses, but respect is earned in the SEC and we haven't quite warmed up to it yet. Oklahoma's mascot memorably tumbled over in 2019.
Sir Big Spur made his debut in 1999 and attends more than just home football games, which is a nice bonus. We are currently on Sir Big Spur VII, who is Old English Black Breasted Red Fighting Gamecock. Sir Big Spur will appear at events around South Carolina for $500 to $1,000 for 90 minutes.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — First responders searched damaged homes and buildings on Tuesday for possible victims of a powerful tornado that carved a path of destruction through several northeastern Wisconsin communities.
The twister touched down in the Fox Cities region, which includes Appleton, Menasha and Neenah, at around 1 p.m. Monday and remained on the ground for more than 20 minutes as it cut a roughly 12-mile path of destruction through an area, the National Weather Service reported. It was nearly a mile (1.6 kilometers) across at its widest, and it destroyed homes and businesses, flipped cars and knocked down rows of power lines in the region, which is roughly 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Milwaukee.
The timing — it blew in when most people were awake and after warnings had been issued — could be why there have been no reported deaths, authorities said.
"I think what helped us was it was during the week," Menasha Police Chief Matt Albrecht said at a news conference Tuesday. "Everybody was at work. It was the middle of the day. Most people were not at home and at their place of employment."
Authorities said a number of people were injured and treated at hospitals, but they didn't know exactly how many or how seriously.

Norwich City are not interested in selling any of their first team players, says head coach Philippe Clement.
Full-back Kellen Fisher has been linked with a possible move to Premier League newcomers Hull City and missed Wednesday night's goalless draw at AFC Wimbledon in the Canaries' latest pre-season friendly.
"It's very simple, in a game we played yesterday (Tuesday) he jumped and landed on a team-mate and twisted his ankle so he was not able to play," Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk.

Holloway fought McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) this past Saturday in the main event of UFC 329 (Paramount+) at T-Mobile Arena. The fight lasted only 69 seconds, as McGregor injured his knee on the first strike of the fight.
With the score now being technically 1-1, Holloway wants a tiebreaker.
"He was talking about this 170 domain," Holloway said at the UFC 329 post-fight press conference. "I put this 170 work. We worked our **** here, especially after turning around so fast in that March fight, and to come back. I want to feel that domain he's talking about, that 170-pound Conor that he's talking about. This different world. That's what I want. I want to see what his injury is. As for me, I'm down to come back in 2027. With that March fight and then this fight – I know I came out unscathed – I owe my family some time: My wife and my son. That's my focus. You're going to see 'Blessed' return in 2027."
McGregor rushed across the cage to throw a jumping kick in the opening moment of the fight. He landed awkwardly, appearing to have twisted his knee. He immediately grimaced in pain, but he tried to keep fighting. He stood up and fell on the ground twice before the referee Mike Beltran stepped in to stop the fight. Some have publicly questioned if McGregor entered the fight injured. The Irishman has denied having any pre-fight injury, but Holloway isn't so sure.

Pulisic suffered a bone bruise and a microfracture in his lower right leg during the U.S. men's national team's loss to Belgium in the World Cup round of 16, a source close to the situation confirmed to USA TODAY after The Athletic first reported the news Thursday. The injury will sideline him for several weeks, the source confirmed, but he could be back training with AC Milan before the start of the Serie A season, according to The Athletic.
Pulisic left the USMNT's last World Cup game in the 59th minute after a collision with Belgium's Youri Tielemans.
Pulisic lined up a shot and accidentally kicked the leg of Tielemans. After trying to play through the injury for several minutes, Pulisic came off after Belgium's third goal. The USMNT went on to lose 4-1.

Christian Pulisic reportedly suffered a bone bruise and microfracture in his leg during the USMNT's 4-1 defeat to Belgium on Monday during the 2026 World Cup Round of 16, according to The Athletic.
The U.S. forward was injured in the 52nd minute when he kicked the back of Youri Tielemans' foot as he wound up for a shot attempt outside of the Belgium penalty box. Despite trying to play through the injury, it was clear Pulisic was hurt following the contact. He was subbed off seven minutes later for Sebastian Berhalter.
Pulisic was seen visibly upset getting treatment on the bench as athletic trainer's worked on his lower right leg.
"I just totally twisted my ankle and my knee in one play," Pulisic said afterward. "I mean, whatever. I have time to rest. It's just unfortunate way to finish."
Further evaluation showed that the 27-year-old had a bone bruise and a microfracture of the tibia/fibula. Pulisic is expected to miss several weeks and could likely return just before AC Milan begins its Serie A schedule on August 23.

It was a fitting end to Pulisic’s World Cup. The U.S. star played just 45 minutes during the group stage, subbing out at halftime against Paraguay with a calf strain, returned for a full 90 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32, and left the field less than an hour into arguably the most important game in USMNT history.
Things weren’t going well for Pulisic throughout his 58 minutes on the pitch. His first five touches of the game all led to turnovers, and he lost possession a game-leading 11 times in the first half. The U.S. was down 3-1 by the time he subbed off, and the writing was already on the wall that this team would once again exit the World Cup in the final 16.
After the game, Pulisic made matters worse for himself.
Speaking with Fox Sports reporter Jenny Taft, Pulisic explained his injury: “I mean, I just twisted my ankle, sprained my ankle. It’s just frustrating to end like that, of course. But, you know, now I get time to rest, so hopefully it’ll be okay.”
