Gyllenhaal's chosen footwear was a lush wine-colored hue with glossy leather uppers and angular pointed toes. Short stiletto heels rounded out the colorful pair. As the summer begins to wind down in September, Hollywood is just getting started with a new crop of awards season movies premiering at the Venice Film Festival. Some of the first arrivals for the 83rd annual Italian fest included George Clooney, Laura Dern, Kate Mara, Claire Foy and jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal.
At the same time, in Los Angeles, Mark Wahlberg premiered his new movie, "By Any Means," at the Paramount Theatre and Ryan Reynolds did the same for his and Kenneth Branagh's Apple TV buddy comedy "Mayday."

It's 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and 19-year-old Delsina Desanctes is standing outside the Palazzo de Cinema — the iconic venue where the Venice Film Festival takes place — surrounded by umbrellas, suitcases, sleeping bags and even a tent.
"I'm hoping to see Sydney Sweeney, Kendall Jenner and Jonathan Bailey," says Desanctes, who traveled to Lido from Rome. (None of them are at the fest for movies; they're attending as brand ambassadors for Armani.)

The Venice Film Festival is officially underway, with the first photocalls of the festival taking place today.

Hands up if you knew this was coming. I certainly did. The first look from jury president Maggie Gyllenhaal was always likely to be a) a suit and b) black.
And I don't begrudge her either choice. A black The Row suit makes sense for her first official photocall as president of the jury, and this feels entirely in keeping with Maggie's style and her role at the festival. The tailoring is clean, with the velvet collar and cuffs providing the only contrast.
The only thing I would change is the trouser length. There is too much fabric pooling around her shoes, which takes away from the otherwise sharp tailoring.

Daveigh Chase, the young actress best known for "The Ring" and "Lilo & Stitch," has reportedly died. She was 35.
According to TMZ, Chase died June 16 from meningitis and an infection in her blood, her boyfriend Roy Hernandez told the outlet. The outlet reports she was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier this month for malnutrition.

Chase had her big-screen breakthrough at age 10 co-starring as Jake Gyllenhaal's younger sister, Samantha, in the 2001 psychological thriller "Donnie Darko." She continued to find success as a voice actress: playing the young heroine Chihiro in the English-language dub of Hayao Miyazaki's "Spirited Away," and the misfit Lilo in Disney's 2002 animated hit "Lilo & Stitch."
