Followers of the New York Giants know that John Mara is the CEO and has the final say on football decisions for the legendary franchise. That could be changing.
John has had recent health issues, and although he's been present at many of the team's major events this year, his younger brother, Chris, has taken on a more visible leadership role. He was highly instrumental in the Giants landing John Harbaugh as head coach this past January.
Chris, whose official **** le is "Senior Player Personnel Executive and Board Director," is now around the team and representing them more in the media, much the way his brother and their father, Wellington, before them have been over the decades.
In a recent interview on ESPN New York radio, the younger Mara had many telling things to say about what the team's mindset is heading into the 2026 season.
They expect to win now. No more hoping. It's on. The Harbaugh hire has changed everything.

Aug 22 (Reuters) - Ukrainian drones killed at least six civilians overnight in a wave of strikes on Russia overnight that also ‌hit a warehouse owned by online retailer Ozon and an ‌industrial facility in the Samara region, Russian regional officials said on Saturday.
In a post on Telegram, Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said that several people had been wounded in the strikes. He did not name the industrial facility struck, but Ukraine's military said it had struck the region's Novokuibyshevsk refinery, causing a fire.
Ozon, Russia's ‌second-largest online retailer, said in a statement on Telegram that work at its Samara region logistics centre in the town of Chapayevsk had been halted after the strike, which it said caused injuries.
The strike is the first on Ozon, after weeks of drone attacks on its larger rival Wildberries, which Ukraine has cast as part of a wider campaign against economic infrastructure underpinning ‌the Russian war in Ukraine.
Elsewhere, in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said that two children had been killed and two adults wounded in a strike on the Sea of Azov port town of Yeysk. He said a fire had broken out at an unnamed ‌facility at the town's port.

Arsenal target one more forward before transfer deadline originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Arsenal remain in the market for another attacking addition before the summer transfer window shuts, The Sporting News understands.
The Gunners opened the new Premier League season with a 3-0 win over newly-promoted side Coventry City at Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
Mikel Arteta's side have already spent £143.5 million ($195m) on four new signings this summer, including Christian Tzolis, Bruno Guimaraes and the permanent arrival of defender Piero Hincapie.
However, another forward remains on the agenda if the right opportunity emerges before the deadline.

LONDON (AP) — Newcomer Christos Tzolis helped set up two goals as defending champion ***** nal opened the Premier League season by dismantling promoted Coventry 3-0 to spoil the visitor's long-awaited return to the top flight Friday.
After ending a 22-year wait for the Premier League ***** le, ***** nal showed why it's favored to repeat as champion by completely dominating Frank Lampard's side in a game that was one-sided from start to finish.
Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard scored for the Gunners, who spurned chances to pad the scoreline even further.
For Coventry, it was a rude welcome back to the Premier League after a 25-year absence. Having won the second-tier Championship last season by a wide margin, Lampard's side simply looked outmatched as it was repeatedly taken apart by a marauding ***** nal.
Tzolis was the only summer signing to start for the host but the left winger showed he could give this attack an added dimension by helping to set up both opening goals.

Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) is one of the largest integrated energy companies in the world. The stock hit an all-time peak earlier this year and has surged by over 35% since the beginning of 2026, supported by high energy prices and strong earnings amid the disruptions in the Middle East.
After pulling back over the last few months, Chevron is now bouncing back, and the ****** ysts over at Morgan Stanley expect this rally to continue at full pace. On August 19, the ****** yst firm raised its price target on CVX from $210 to $218, while reaffirming an 'Overweight' rating on its shares. This is up almost 6% from the current levels and even above the stock's all-time high of just under $215 achieved earlier this year.
The bullish outlook comes as Morgan Stanley adjusted its price estimates and targets in the energy sector to reflect the latest 2026 outlooks and current strip prices. The firm believes that integrated energy companies, like Chevron, have not yet rallied as much with the soaring refining margins as the pure-play refiners.
Despite Chevron's impressive YTD performance, its gains pale in comparison with those of refiners like Valero Energy and Marathon Petroleum, whose stocks have each soared by over 100% since the beginning of 2026.

The Premier League is back, with reigning champions **** nal beginning their **** le defence against last year's Championship winners Coventry City.
Frank Lampard's side have the toughest possible task to kick off their return to the top flight for the first time in over two decades, particularly as the Gunners looked so impressive as they cruised to a 3-0 Community Shield win over a dispirited Manchester City side in their last outing.
Both sides have strengthened in the transfer window, although Coventry have hardly spent big - particularly in comparison to Mikel Arteta's side, who have brought in ex-Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes and Christos Tzolis as well as securing the services of Piero Hincapie permanently after a loan spell last year.
These two sides are expected to finish at opposite ends of the table but Coventry will relish the challenge against the hot favourites for the **** le, while after that long-awaited **** le the current iteration of **** nal will aim to prove they aren't one-hit wonders.

Arsenal open their Premier League ***** le defence against Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday evening, just days after thrashing Manchester City in the Community Shield.
Mikel Arteta's side head into the new season as champions and heavy favourites against newly promoted opposition. The performance in Cardiff last weekend, capped by Calafiori's goal inside 26 seconds, gave an early indication of the intent Arteta wants to carry into the campaign proper.
William Saliba remains out long-term with a back injury, and Jurrien Timber is sidelined with a groin problem. Bruno Guimarães is a doubt for Friday after being substituted at half-time in the Community Shield with a thigh problem, later seen with an ice pack applied.
Arteta gave little away when asked about his fitness: "Let's see how he is. He's evolving really well, but let's see for tomorrow." Should he not be risked, Myles Lewis-Skelly is the likely replacement in midfield.
Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are both confirmed fit. The pair returned late from England's deep World Cup run and appeared as substitutes in the Community Shield win over Manchester City — both are now expected to start. Arteta has strongly implied, without confirming outright, that Ezri Konsa's move from Aston Villa is imminent, though the defender will not be involved against Coventry regardless.

Newcastle United have opened talks with defender Lewis Hall over a new contract.
According to Sam C, the Magpies are keen to tie Hall down to a new long-term contract with improved terms as they look to fend off interest from Premier League rivals.
Newcastle have already been picked apart this summer. They have lost Sandro Tonali and captain Bruno Guimaraes and are in no mood to lose yet another key player.
The Magpies are going through a period of change this summer, with Eddie Howe's exit standing as arguably the biggest departure from the club.
Newcastle have since appointed Matthias Jassle as Howe's successor and are working on bringing in reinforcements to bolster the squad.

Quenching the thirst of the annual content drought, the NBA has dropped its 2026-27 regular season. The Oklahoma City Thunder now have the next month-plus to completely dissect when and where they'll face their opponents during the seven-month marathon.
Entering the 2026-27 season as a co-title favorite, the Thunder are once again an NBA main character. They'll have the fifth-most national TV games with 30. Only the New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers have more at 34 apiece.
Even with their cost-cutting moves this summer, the Thunder remain arguably the best team. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams are one of the top league trios. With one championship ring in hand, they're looking to add another this upcoming year.
One of the recent NBA regular season perks is the baseball series. Gaining popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic, the schedule-makers have had teams face off against each other two times in a row — usually in the same arena. That eases some of the travel load that teams go through.
Let's look at all five of OKC's baseball series throughout the 2026-27 regular season:

Arsenal are looking into whether a deal for Juventus' Kenan Yildiz is possible in this window, as Mikel Arteta seeks to complete his transfer plans for an **** ault on both the Champions League and Premier League for the new season.
The Basque has long identified the left side attack as a priority position to upgrade, with Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr having been the ideal target. The Brazilian's decision to stay at the Bernabeu caused **** nal to reconsider the situation, and some thought has been given to waiting until either January or next summer when other deals could become possible.
The club would probably have moved for Bournemouth's Jan Kroupi had it not been for his injury, and that does represent an option for January.
Yildiz has nevertheless been high up on their list of targets, with Arteta especially keen on the Turkish international. The fact he is 21 years old would also represent a shift back to signing talents who can evolve, after two moves in Ezri Konsa and Bruno Guimaraes of buying players in their prime.
The **** nal hierarchy do want to ensure more outgoings, while Juventus would be hard line on a player who is one of their burgeoning talents. They would want upwards of £60m, and also have to consider fan backlash. One solution that has been raised is Gabriel Martinelli potentially going the other way, but that would still require considerable negotiation.

AS Monaco will have to cobble together a forward line this evening when they face Górnik Zabrze in their UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier in Poland.
Les Monégasques are without several key players in their attack. Folarin Balogun is not yet back to full fitness following the FIFA World Cup, which, as revealed by Filipe Luís, he played through despite a minor niggle. Matthis Abline is also out after sustaining a minor foot injury in the pre-season loss to Coventry City. Ansu Fati has not recovered from injury, is out, and will also miss the start of the Ligue 1 season.
In the supporting roles, Aleksandr Golovin is injured, whilst Takumi Minamino is still on the road to recovery from an ACL injury sustained in December. His return is nearing but he is not yet fit. There could, therefore, be a chance for Safouane Benzahra, who has yet to make his professional debut for his formative club, either from the start or from the bench.

The organisers of the Edmonton Marathon have admitted the course measured more than half a kilometre too long for the 2026 edition.
The annual event in Alberta, Canada is often used as a qualifier for the prestigious Boston Marathon.
But a number of frustrated runners voiced concerns online after the race, noting that the distance on their GPS running watches was over 26.22 miles.
Organisers initially dismissed complaints but in a statement on Wednesday, they admitted an extra 674.7 metres (0.41 miles) was mistakenly added to the course.
Race director Tom Keogh said: "We do not take this lightly. We hosted the nation's best athletes and their finishing times did not truly reflect their amazing performances."

The Formula 1 driver market just received a massive update regarding the grid's most decorated champion. Lewis Hamilton has reportedly renewed his contract with Scuderia Ferrari, guaranteeing his presence in Maranello well beyond his initial two-year commitment.
According to the Spanish sports broadcaster Partidazo COPE, the seven-time World Champion has officially put pen to paper to extend his stay with the iconic Italian team.
The timing of the leak perfectly aligns with Ferrari's biggest weekend of the year. The official announcement of Hamilton's contract renewal is expected to drop just before the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on September 6.
When Hamilton shocked the sporting world by leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season, he originally signed a flexible "two-plus-one" deal. This guaranteed his seat through the end of 2026 while leaving the 2027 season as a unilateral option on the driver's side.
Following a challenging transitional year in 2025, Hamilton has experienced a massive resurgence in the 2026 campaign. Reinvigorated by the SF-26 challenger, he has consistently taken the fight to teammate Charles Leclerc—including a stunning victory earlier this year at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. Given his championship-contending form this season, executing the 2027 extension clause was widely viewed by paddock insiders as a mere formality.

Synchrony Financial announced an enterprise collaboration with OpenAI on Monday aimed at embedding its financing products, rewards, and loyalty programs into AI-native shopping and checkout experiences inside ChatGPT.
According to CNBC, the partnership focuses on making Synchrony's store cards — covering brands such as Amazon, Walmart, and Lowe's — available for use inside ChatGPT, so shoppers can check out without being redirected elsewhere. Maran Nalluswami, Synchrony's chief strategy and business development officer, said that getting general-purpose cards functioning within ChatGPT will take roughly six to 12 months, and that integrating private-label store cards — which work only at specific retailers — could take longer because it requires additional coordination with those brands.
"What happens today is the transaction doesn't cleanly happen yet at the provider like OpenAI," Maran Nalluswami said. "We want to ensure that if a transaction's going to happen in that ecosystem, our cards are loaded up in the right spots to ensure that that transaction finishes."
Several obstacles remain before in-chat purchases become routine. Broad adoption also faces a trust gap, as many shoppers are reluctant to give AI platforms access to their payment details or to let automated agents finalize transactions for them, according to CNBC. How revenue from in-chat purchases would be divided among Synchrony, OpenAI, and the underlying retailers is another unresolved issue, with Maran Nalluswami acknowledging that those economic terms have yet to be worked out.
Synchrony also said it is in talks with Anthropic's Claude and Google's Gemini about embedding its cards in those platforms.

A series of fights and skirmishes threatened to derail the New Orleans Saints' joint practice session with the Dallas Cowboys, but the Saints managed to get through the afternoon without any fight-related injuries. That's not to say they got out of it unscathed. Several players exited practice early, two of them starters: running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Quincy Riley. The severity of their injuries is not yet known.
"Only two guys who weren't able to finish practice were Alvin with a knee, and then Quincy with a groin," head coach Kellen Moore told reporters afterwards. "Other than that, good work, obviously you guys saw the chippiness of it. Not the ideal flow of a joint practice but we got the work that we needed. We'll have one more Thursday with the Rams, we've had a number (of practices) with those guys before, so (not worried)."
Moore later clarified that wide receiver Ronnie Bell left the practice with heat-related issues; he was seen walking slowly too the sideline before being driven indoors on a trainer's cart without his jersey. Wide receiver Chris Olave, the team's top wide receiver, briefly received attention from trainers after taking a hit on a catch but remained on the sidelines to observe the rest of practice. He later returned for the final sequence of team drills in a red zone period.
Fans and reporters covering the joint practice counted as many as six, seven, ten or more dustups over the course of the two-hour practice session. Both teams were fortunate to get out of it without any serious injuries from the fists and helmets flying around. We'll see if tempers flare up again on Thursday when the Saints and Rams meet for their own joint practice session.

The Valor Games Midwest kicked off in Chicago, bringing veterans together for three days of adaptive sports, competition and camaraderie.
The 14th annual games give veterans an opportunity to support one another while testing themselves in a variety of events. The games emphasize inclusion, with events designed for veterans with disabilities.
"Tons of veterans come out from all over the country, and this is the time they get to see their friends. So we're always excited for that," said Ricardo Lara of the Chicago Park District.
Among the competitors was Janice Copeland, a veteran of Operation Desert Storm who traveled from Atlanta for the games. Copeland competed in the biathlon and won a medal. She said the support of fellow veterans was a meaningful part of the experience.
"For me, just completing the task was enough and just to hear other veterans telling you, 'you got it. You can do it.' It really boosts my spirit," Copeland said.

BEIJING, Aug 18 (Reuters) - China's humanoid robot makers have spent the past two years dazzling investors with machines that can breakdance, throw punches and even set marathon records. This week in Beijing, they face a tougher test in proving their inventions can work reliably ‌to generate economic value.

The conference coincides with the Shanghai stock market debut of Unitree, one of the world's largest humanoid robot makers by sales volume, after an initial public offering that was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed by retail investors.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- In the past few recruiting cycles, Michigan football has managed to get some higher-caliber wide receiver talent. But it's been a lot of selling something that hasn't exactly been working -- at least not to the level that most top-flight pass catchers gravitate toward.
Last season, the Wolverines had the 107th passing offense, and it was 131st the year before. Even in the three-year College Football Playoff run, the pass game wasn't exactly electric -- it was 82nd in 2023 (the national championship year), 83rd the year before, and, oddly, 68th with Cade McNamara at the helm in 2021.
Now, with Bryce Underwood at quarterback, the former top player in the country, Kyle Whittingham and company want to change the perception of what the maize and blue are capable of through the air. Wide receivers coach Micah Simon discussed how he and offensive coordinator Jason Beck have produced results, and that their past is something they're using to appeal to recruits who are interested in the Wolverines but are perhaps reluctant to pull the trigger.
"We're always going to play to our strengths," Simon said. "That's the No. 1 thing when you create explosive offenses. Whatever we feel the strength of our team is, that's what we're going to play to.
"A couple years ago in New Mexico, we were actually a little more balanced than people might remember. We had a 1,000-yard rusher at running back, a 1,000-yard rusher at quarterback. He also threw for almost 3,000. Had a couple wideouts that were pushing 900 and 800 yards each. So we were super balanced that year. Last year at the other place, a little more run-heavy. But when you have five senior O-linemen and two first-round-pick tackles that's what you're going to lean into.
