The Yankees were one of several teams scouting the Mets pitcher in his rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie on Tuesday night, according to The Athletic.
According to two executives who watched his latest rehab appearance on Tuesday night, Mets starter and trade candidate Clay Holmes "looked big-league ready."
Scouts from the New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks were among those who flocked to Dunedin, Fla., to evaluate Holmes, out since mid-May after a fibula fracture.
Pitching for Single-A St. Lucie, Holmes threw four scoreless innings and 59 pitches. His next start lines up for Aug. 2, one day before the trade deadline. It's not known whether that start will be for the Mets or someone else.

TheThe Atlanta Falcons had no first-round pick in this year's draft thanks to the trade-up for edge rusher James Pearce. Their first selection didn't come until the middle of Round 2, which they used on Clemson cornerback Avieon Terrell, the younger brother of their top cornerback, A.J. Terrell.
During his time at Clemson, Terrell mostly played the boundary, but he did put in 110 snaps in the slot last season. As he begins his first year in the NFL, it hasn't been clear what role he will play for the Falcons as of yet.
New head coach Kevin Stefanski offered some clarity on that question today, telling reporters that Terrell will see snaps both outside and at nickel.
This is probably the right way to go about it. Finding where Terrell fits best with Jeff Ulbrich's defense should be a matter of trial and error rather than trying to force a square peg into a round hole, or a 5-foot-11 defensive back into the boundary position.

DUNEDIN, FL — Clay Holmes has been traded once before. He found out when he was going to the New York Yankees in the checkout lane of a Pittsburgh Target. Pirates GM Ben Cherington called him to tell him he had been traded and Holmes was quickly searching the aisles for a razor. He had a plane to catch and a beard to shave.
Now, five years later, he is on the block again. This time, he's a more known and wanted commodity, and because he has been on the injured list he has had 10 weeks to sit with it.
He doesn't love the uncertainty, but he's not dreading anything.
"It was such a good experience the last time, because I just took it for what it was and accepted it," Holmes said Tuesday night. "I am going to try and do that same thing this time. Whatever happens, I just try and come at it with a new perspective, fresh eyes and just enjoy it and just kind of hang on."
Hanging on is harder this week when the ride hasn't even started.

Rather than adopting Holmes as her last name, Suri opted for Noelle, her mother's middle name. While it's unclear when she officially changed her last name, Page Six reported that she registered to vote in Allegheny County, Pa., under the name Suri Noelle during her freshman year at Carnegie Mellon University in October 2024. She first made headlines in June 2024, when she graduated from New York City's LaGuardia High School and was listed as Suri Noelle in the ceremony pamphlet.
The reported name change comes after years of estrangement from Cruise. Following her parents' divorce in 2012, Suri moved from Los Angeles to New York City with Holmes, who was granted full custody, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The Detroit Lions enter training camp facing new questions at cornerback, and longtime beat writer Dave Birkett believes some of those concerns could have been addressed months ago.
During an appearance on Crunch Time Sports on Woodward Sports Network, Birkett questioned whether Detroit general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell did enough to protect the roster against the possibility that Terrion Arnold's legal situation could worsen.
Arnold, a former first-round pick, had been connected to allegations involving an alleged kidnapping and robbery plot dating back to February. Arnold's attorney and representatives denied the allegations.
The Lions publicly stood behind Arnold while the situation developed. Birkett's concern centers less on that public support and more on whether the organization should have created a stronger contingency plan at cornerback.

Mets starter Clay Holmes returned to the mound on Thursday night after making his first rehab appearance with Triple-A Syracuse.
With the plan for Holmes to go roughly three innings, per interim manager Andy Green earlier in the week, the right-hander lasted 2.1 innings after throwing 51 pitches (28 strikes) and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two.
Holmes' evening began with a 1-2-3 first inning, including back-to-back strikeouts that ended the frame. Things got hairy in the second after a leadoff double and a walk put runners at first and second with **** ody out. Holmes didn't allow a hit for the rest of the inning, but the RailRiders scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly.
In the third, Holmes allowed a walk and consecutive singles that brought home a run before getting a flyout to end his night. Tobias Myers came in for relief and struck out the next two batters to strand the inherited runners and close the book on Holmes.

While a lot of focus will be on Freddy Peralta, rightfully so, there are some other players worth keeping an eye on this summer. Brooks Raley, A.J. Minter, and Luke Weaver are some interesting reliever trade options, but a different starter should be of interest.
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel projected that a Mets starter, but not Peralta, has a 90% chance of being traded by the deadline this summer. That pitcher is former New York Yankees veteran Clay Holmes.
"17. Clay Holmes, RHP, New York Mets. Chance of being traded: 90%," McDaniel and Passan project. "... He has shot up this list because teams' interest in him runs deep -- and the only reason he's not higher than 90% to go is due to the possibility of him remaining in New York on a contract extension."

The New York Mets are expected to be trade deadline sellers this summer, and there are plenty of interesting options for teams to consider in a deal by the August 3 deadline.
While a lot of focus will be on Freddy Peralta, rightfully so, there are some other players worth keeping an eye on this summer. Brooks Raley, A.J. Minter, and Luke Weaver are some interesting reliever trade options, but a different starter should be of interest.
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel projected that a Mets starter, but not Peralta, has a 90% chance of being traded by the deadline this summer. That pitcher is former New York Yankees veteran Clay Holmes.
"17. Clay Holmes, RHP, New York Mets. Chance of being traded: 90%," McDaniel and Passan project. "... He has shot up this list because teams' interest in him runs deep -- and the only reason he's not higher than 90% to go is due to the possibility of him remaining in New York on a contract extension."

Clay Holmes pitched to a batter in the batter's box Friday afternoon, the first time he saw a hitter since Spencer Jones broke his leg with a line drive in May.
The batter in the box was Marcus Semien, who is also out with injury. He did not swing at a single pitch. But through two innings' worth of pitches with a break in between, Holmes was finally on the Citi Field mound again, a signal that he is moving nearer to returning from the injured list. What is not clear as of Friday is whether he will still be a Met when he does.
Holmes told The Athletic this week that he is open to an extension, and a person familiar with the front office's thinking told SNY the Mets are open to an extension with him, too. Neither Holmes' agent nor president of baseball operations David Stearns immediately responded to inquiries about whether the two sides have had any conversations about a deal. The Detroit Lions have already seen their defense undergo significant changes this offseason, but one new trade proposal suggests general manager Brad Holmes may not be done adding talent.
According to Max Dible of Heavy.com, one intriguing possibility would send Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher Alex Highsmith to Detroit, giving the Lions another proven pass rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
Dible pointed to comments from ESPN's Bill Barnwell, who recently identified Highsmith as a logical trade candidate.
The Steelers have committed major money to both T.J. Watt and Nick Herbig, leaving Highsmith in an interesting position despite having two years remaining on his current contract. Because much of the money left on his deal is not guaranteed, Pittsburgh would have flexibility if it decided to move him.
Barnwell believes that combination of contract structure and the Steelers' financial commitments elsewhere could make Highsmith available either before the regular season or ahead of the NFL trade deadline.

Despite getting completely and totally blanked for the first six innings of this contest, the Atlanta Braves eventually broke through and ended up pulling off a 3-0 victory in an excellent pitching performance from Grant Holmes and Atlanta's bullpen.
It would be an understatement to call this one a pitchers' duel, as both starters were dominant for the period of time where they were out there. Grant Holmes successfully navigated his way through two trips through the order as he finished with just three hits allowed and one walk conceded across five innings of work and five strikeouts. The slider and cutter were both working pretty effectively for Holmes — everything was working, really, as Holmes picked up two strikeouts on the four-seamer and three on the slider.
The only time that Holmes ran into trouble was in the third inning, which is when he found himself with two runners in scoring position with two outs after he led off the inning hitting Henry Davis and then gave up a two-out single to Bryan Reynolds. Fortunately, Holmes was able to get Esmerlyn Valdez to pop up on a four-seamer and that was that for the scoring chance. That was as close as Pittsburgh got to scoring off of Holmes before he eventually exited the game with 90 pitches after five innings.
As good as Homes was, Jared Jones was better. Jones was just about untouchable against the Braves tonight, as he struck out eight batters without giving up a hit or a walk through six innings of work. Atlanta's lineup couldn't handle him at all, which is why it was probably a huge relief for the Braves once they saw Mason Montgomery walk out for the seventh inning.
The crowd in Pittsburgh disagreed with the decision and they voiced their disapproval after Ozzie Albies ended the combined perfect game bid with a looping single out to left to give the Braves their first hit and baserunner of the game. While Jones has been kind of easing back into things following elbow issues, it certainly took a lot of the neutral intrigue out of the game once it was clear that the Pirates weren't going to let him go for the perfect game.

The lineups are out for tonight’s middle game between the Atlanta Braves and the Pittsburgh Pirates and there aren’t too many shocks or surprises going on as far as the Braves are concerned. Michael Harris II is still leading off, Austin Riley is near the bottom, the top of the order seems a bit imposing while you’re hoping for the best from the middle and the bottom portion of the lineup.

They recently released their top 50 rankings heading into the 2026 college football season and three Ole Miss Rebels made the cut. That leaves them tied for fourth most on the list behind Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame.

After trading star pass rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams earlier this offseason, the Cleveland Browns are slowly heading towards a rebuild leading up to the 2026 NFL season.
