Columbia Threadneedle Investments and alternative ******* et manager Hamilton Lane announced a strategic collaboration to deliver new investment products for the wealth channel. An interval fund combining public and private equity exposure, currently awaiting SEC approval, will likely be the first product launched through the two firms' partnership.
Columbia Threadneedle brings its public markets expertise, multi-asset investment capabilities and strategic distribution relationships to the collaboration. Hamilton Lane specializes in alternatives, with an established private markets platform, investment sourcing capabilities and data ******* ytics expertise.
Columbia Threadneedle filed a preliminary registration statement with the SEC for the Columbia Hamilton Lane Growth Innovation Fund, a public-private growth equity interval fund. If the fund is approved by the SEC, it will be offered to the wealth channel through financial advisors.
According to the filing, the fund will focus on capital appreciation, allocating at least 80% of its net ******* ets to investments in growth innovation companies. The fund will be roughly evenly split in exposure to publicly traded securities and private ******* ets. At least 40% of the fund's ******* ets will be invested in underlying funds managed by Hamilton Lane.

Well STS readers, I come to you this week recovering from an extremely sobering experience last Saturday night. I predicted a fight even in a loss, and if it even qualified as a fight, it resembled Drago vs. Apollo in Rocky IV. Probably an adequate ******* ogy because Apollo USED to be great, but he was no match for the modernized superweapon Drago. Did the Soviets cheat to develop him? Absolutely, but at that point they were doing whatever it took to be superior no matter the morality of it. Clemson fans like me could be heard yelling "throw in the ******* towel!" by maybe the fourth possession of the game. It was that obvious that Clemson was completely and totally outmatched at the lines of scrimmage and the surrounding skill had zero chance because of it on either side of the ball.
How did it come to this? I posted this in a comment on the game review thread and will paste it here as it summarizes what I have painfully allowed myself to realize: "I hate it for Dabo and others who really want to do this the way it is supposed to be done, which is to develop men and grow boys to men and that takes time more often than not. That is what the transfer portal and NIL and lack of tampering control has created and as much as Dabo has tried to evolve I just don't see how he could ever get to what actually has to be done now if you want to be elite. I bet if you begin to track LSU, Ohio State, Texas, etc, going forward, you will see that maybe 50% of their rosters will start and finish with them and the other half will be brought in from elsewhere at some stage of their five-year playing window. Dabo swallows hard just to have the maybe 15% we are up to now that would check that box. I totally understand why, but either Dabo has to let go of that OR Clemson needs a huge break and actual sane rules return to CFB. Otherwise, we are back to 1995 where we might be able to beat ok teams and bad teams but are done beating anyone that is legit top 15 in stature."
I am a Clemson Tiger for life and lived through the lean years between Ford and Dabo. I'll still tune in and attend games when I can, but I know now that something has to give if Clemson is ever going to hope to compete at the highest level and it may get worse before it can get better. I'm still looking for pathways to wins, as many wins as this team can find a way to manage. I agree they are likely better than that product we saw in Baton Rouge, but that is not saying a lot either considering how FCS level the Tigers looked in that game.

Today, of course, is the anniversary of an event that means so much more than baseball. Twenty-five years ago, the September 11th attacks rocked the US, especially in New York. There are commemorations of all sort taking place around the country today. While the tragedy of that day in 2001 means more than baseball, in New York, the two baseball teams will honor the day in their own way: playing baseball. Starting tonight, the Subway Series is back for a weekend set, beginning on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
To go to the baseball for a minute, Carlos Rodón will get the start for the Yankees in this one. For the season, Rodón's numbers are generally pretty good, but his habit of taking a little too long to put away batters tends to prevent him from going long. While the Yankees didn't have to use too many crucial arms, the bullpen did have to pitch a decent amount of innings yesterday, so they could use a good day from Rodón.
As for the rest of the lineup, Aaron Judge is back after getting last night off, while Anthony Volpe is at second again after his five RBI performance.
For the Mets, Nolan McLean will take the mound. He's been really good for them, posting a 3.06 ERA in 161.2 innings. Across his last dozen starts, the rookie has been even better, with an even lower ERA of 1.87.

I figured I wasn't going to post anything more until the Game Thread, but everyone is reporting that the Jays are calling up 30-year-old outfielder Rudy Martin. They picked up Martin off waivers from the Royals, back in July.
He was drafted by the Royals in the 25th round of the 2014 draft and he's played basically everywhere since, except for the major leagues, but that ends now (hopefully, I hope he gets into some games). I admire guys who keep playing, keep the dream alive.
This year, playing for three different minor league teams, he's hit .274/.394/421 with 11 home runs, 55 walks, 83 strikeouts and 45 steals in 369 at bats. He's played all three outfield spots in his career.
He's a left-handed batter.
And he's not on the 40-man roster, so there are a couple of moves that will have to be made.

Ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season, the Warriors have revealed some new threads. Golden State is one of eight teams to receive new "Specter" jerseys from Nike. The Warriors' edition is prominently black with blue stripes on the right side and yellow number outlines. The seven other teams to receive "Specter" jerseys are the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings. The "Specter" jersey was meant as a way to celebrate some of the league's oldest NBA teams.
Since the release, fans have had mixed reviews on the new uniforms, but most overall comments have been negative. When the Warriors will debut these jerseys has not yet been revealed. In the meantime, Golden State will begin a six-game preseason run October 4 against the Los Angeles Clippers in Hawaii.

With the Yankees looking to track down the Rays in the AL East while also maintaining the cushion they have on the Red Sox, this interleague matchup against the Rockies was a couple of must win games. Colorado is closing in on 100 losses and is as beatable an opponent as there is right now, sorry to them. Well so far, so good for the Yankees as they've taken the first two games of the series. Tonight, they'll go for the sweep.
To try and accomplish that sweep, the Yankees will give the ball to Max Fried. This will be Fried's third start since returning from the IL, and he's been decent enough so far, allowing two runs in 9.1 combined innings. He still hasn't gone over 72 pitches yet, so it's still unlikely that he'll be airing it out for 100 or anything tonight, but we'll see.
As for the rest of the lineup, the big news is the return of Anthony Volpe. With Jazz Chisholm Jr. going on the IL, Volpe has been recalled and will play second base. He has been hitting decently since getting sent back to the minors, so we'll see if there's any correlation now that he's back in the bigs. Aaron Judge will get a planned day off, his first since being reinstated from the IL on Tuesday as Aaron Boone will take it slow with his superstar outfielder especially after Judge returned without a rehab ***** ignment. Jasson Domínguez will start in right field instead and bat third, flanked by Cody Bellinger and Luis García Jr.
Meanwhile, Ryan Feltner will take the mound for the Rockies. Feltner has a 5.91 ERA and a 5.27 FIP in his 106.2 innings on the season. The 30-year-old right-hander was having a decent year by Rockies pitchers standards until about mid-July, when a 2.1 inning eight-run disaster outing against Cincinnati ballooned his ERA north of five and he's stayed there ever since. His latest start was a mediocre one, where he lasted five innings and gave up four runs to the Cardinals, but he's got some seven-run outings in recent memory as the Dodgers and Nationals took him to task a couple of weeks ago.

I hope you all had a nice Labor Day holiday! The Twins did not, dropping the first game of a three-game series to the Tigers in Joe Ryan's return from the injured list. In the previous week, the team went overall 3-3, taking a series 2-1 against the Tigers and then dropping a series 1-2 to the White Sox. They are now 8 games below .500, and 4.5 games outside of the final wild card spot. While there's a chance, it's growing more slim to play October baseball and frankly, their playoff chances are not completely in their own hands. So let's just try to enjoy this last month of baseball!

WWE Sunday Night's Main Event took place from State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Sunday night, with Randy Orton pinning Cody Rhodes in the main event. As we march toward Money in the Bank, here's four takeaways from Sunday night in "the A."
In a WrestleMania rematch, Orton and Rhodes picked up right where they left off with a brawl throughout the arena Sunday night. We've seen plenty of "no fighting until the fight" stipulations, but this is the first time I can remember both wrestlers immediately brawling once they were in the ring together to pay off a month's worth of tension.
Orton and Rhodes hit all the high notes, with the duo matching intensities throughout a hard-hitting bout. Rhodes teased the punt to Orton, but once he couldn't pull the trigger, the wily veteran Orton took advantage and found an opening for the win.
I'm really interested to see where we go from here. This story feels similar to what played out in the run-up to WrestleMania, with Rhodes needing to find another gear and using heel-like tactics in the actual match to retain his WWE **** le. It'll be interesting to see what threads these two opt to tug on to make the next chapter in this rivalry compelling.

McDonald's India deleted a run of posts from its verified X (Twitter) account on Sunday. Written in the first person, they claimed an unpaid intern was owed ₹60,000, then promoted a meme coin.
The drama arrived at a low point for the stock. McDonald's Corporation (MCD) closed Friday at $255.69, its weakest level in a year. However, Wall Street has not followed it down.
The account said the writer interned at McDonald's India and ran several of the company's Asian social media handles. It named a manager, Amit Joshi, and said no salary had arrived since December 2025.
A later post revised that date to May, an inconsistency that fueled doubt. Another put the outstanding sum above ₹60,000, roughly $650. One said meme coin trading losses had left the writer starving daily.
Final messages promoted a token and shared crypto wallet addresses, before noting that fees had been claimed. McDonald's India pulled the thread and answered with a meme of a dog holding a phone.

USC football shut out Fresno State on Friday night. The Trojans were able to earn a day off and watch college football on Saturday. The game you know the Trojans were watching on Saturday was Oregon versus Boise State. The Ducks got a severe test. Ducks Wire reacted:
"'I'm glad this game was how it was; we've got a lot to learn,' (Dante) Moore said after a career day with 378 yards passing. 'Thank God it wasn't a 40- or 50-point blowout, because this just shows us who we are right now, and what we have to attack coming into next week.'
"If that's what (Dan) Lanning instilled in his guys after a tense, nerve-wracking, and often frustrating season-opener, then I think the Ducks won in more ways than one. Did Oregon look good on Saturday? No, not by their standards. Did they play well? At times, but it was far too inconsistent. Is there a lot to clean up? Yes, undoubtedly. Is everything they're aiming for still out in front of them?
"Coaching a championship contender is hard. You want them to be so dominant that they blow every opponent out of the water, but you also want to keep them motivated and hungry enough to keep working hard. It's like a magic trick, or threading a needle. Lanning has walked that tightrope several times over the years, and he got a bit of an ****** ist on Saturday in Week 1. The Ducks played far below their standards against what we believe is a pretty good Boise State team. They still showed how good they can be, keeping the ceiling high, but left us thinking about how hard they need to work to reach their goals. In the coming weeks, Oregon will undoubtedly tip towards the side of blowouts and bloodbaths. They may eventually fall toward humility down the road, too."
Oregon fell well short of expectations, but it did win a tough game, which could fuel the Ducks' confidence. It will be fascinating to see how the Ducks evolve before they play the Trojans on September 26.

It's not Thanksgiving and it's not the Apple Cup of old. The Dawgs and Cougs will kick off the '26 season by renewing their rivalry at Husky Stadium. WSU is part of the new-look Pac-12 with a new-look roster and a new-looking coaching staff. Kirby Moore arrives for his first head coaching job after serving as an Offensive Coordinator at Missouri and Fresno St. They welcome QB Caden Pinnick from Cal-Davis. The combination of Moore and Pinnick give WSU a good foundation for the offense. However, they did lose a lot of players in the transfer portal, particularly to Iowa St, where former coach Jimmy Rogers took over. It has only been three years since UW went to the Big 10, but the talent on each roster shows how much the talent has diverged in that time.
The game will kick off at 1:00 PM PT from Husky Stadium. It will air on NBC with Paul Burmeister, Yogi Roth, and Zora Stephenson on the call. It will stream via the NBC Sports app. It will also be the debut of new UW Football PBP voice Elise Woodward. Cam Cleeland will join her in the booth on KJR 93.3.

On September 1, Sasol Limited (NYSE:SSL) posted fiscal 2026 results that looked nothing like the shaky operator investors have grown used to. Net debt fell to its lowest level in ten years, Secunda output hit a five-year high, and adjusted EBITDA jumped 17% year over year to ZAR 61 billion. The numbers suggest a turnaround that finally has traction, even as chemical markets stay stuck in a rut.
The clearest thread running through the quarter is that Sasol's core Southern African operations are simply working better than they have in years. Secunda production reached 7.26 million tonnes, a five-year high, driven by improved coal quality and gas availability after the company installed a destoning plant that pushed sinks below 12%. That reliability helped cut the Southern African oil breakeven to $49 per barrel. Management is also weaning the business off external coal, planning to cut purchases from 8.8 million tonnes down to a range of 5 million to 7 million tonnes in fiscal 2027 as own production climbs toward 34 million tonnes by 2028.
The balance sheet tells a similar story. Net debt dropped 11% to $3.3 billion, and available liquidity rose 21% to roughly $5 billion after a bond swap that better matched debt currency to cash generation. Free cash flow of ZAR 11.9 billion was actually up 26% once you strip out a one-time legal settlement from the prior year. International Chemicals, long the drag on the portfolio, posted $604 million in adjusted EBITDA on a 7% cut in fixed costs and a stronger fourth quarter market. Retail fuel market share climbed to 13% from 9% five years ago, and renewable capacity reached 500 megawatts on the way to a 2 gigawatt target by 2030.
Not everything is fixed. Sasol lost two colleagues during the year, a reminder that operational improvement has not erased safety risk. Currency remains a persistent headwind, with CFO Walt Bruns noting that "the stronger rand remained a significant earnings headwind given the U.S. dollar-linked nature of much of our revenue." That same stronger rand outlook, combined with weaker long-term polyethylene pricing, drove impairments on the Secunda liquid fuels refinery and the South African polyethylene unit.
Management was explicit that global chemical markets have not turned a corner, warning that "excess capacity and weaker demand" continue pressuring prices with only a gradual recovery expected. Working capital also ran hot at 18.3% of trailing turnover, above the 15.5% to 16.5% target range, due to pricing volatility and elevated inventory. Fiscal 2027 capital spending guidance of ZAR 23 billion to ZAR 26 billion is also higher than the year just completed, and dividends stay off the table until net debt is sustainably below $3 billion, a threshold the company has approached but not yet crossed.

Yet Hinch continues to insist his team will fight until the math says otherwise.

Lately, I've been writing game discussions and recaps after unfortunate events.
Last Thursday, I wrote the game thread the day after the nine-game winning streak snapped.
Today, it's following the end of five straight series wins.
But that's okay. Listen, if you were thinking that the Royals could make the playoffs during this stretch of great baseball that began when they were 24 games under .500, I applaud you. I wish I could've had that kind of hope.
Still, we've seen this team's best action the past couple of weeks. Even having dropped two in a row to the Fish, I'm looking forward to watching Michael Wacha take the mound tonight on the heels of his gem against Cleveland on August 28th.

The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose more than 3 basis points Tuesday to 4.79%. Driven higher by concerns over the latest flare-up in the war against Iran and its effects on fuel costs and inflation, the yield touched its highest level since January 2025 in trading during the day.
The continuing bond selloff has driven up government borrowing costs around the world. Eshe Nelson of The New York Times noted today that ******* an is seeing 10-year yields above 3% for the first time in 30 years and Germany now has the highest 10-year rates since 2011 (see the Times's chart below).
"A combination of factors are prompting investors to demand higher returns to hold government debt: a flood of borrowing by the world's richest nations, expanding budget deficits, persistent inflation and few signs that countries are able or willing to take steps to improve these conditions," Nelson wrote.
Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi, chief investment officer of the Americas at UBS, said she expects to continue to see heightened volatility in the bond market. "With no clear path to reopening the Strait after six months of war, inflation worries remain elevated," she said in a note, per CNBC. "Uncertainty over the Federal Reserve's policy outlook, fiscal concerns, and rising AI-related debt issuance have all kept bonds under pressure."
Ed Al-Hussainy, a portfolio manager at Columbia Threadneedle, told the Times that it's difficult to "disentangle" the causes of the rate surge. "The only thing we can say right now is that they're all pointing in the same direction," he said, "and that's in the direction of higher rates, and they're doing it globally."

Just two weeks earlier, the company posted its first-ever $20 billion sales quarter, and a fast-growing power generation arm is quietly becoming its most important source of growth. Together, these threads point to a company reshaping itself well beyond its bulldozer roots, and a stock market that has already started pricing in the shift.
Caterpillar's power and energy division brought in more than $8.2 billion in the second quarter, a 17% jump from a year earlier that pushed it almost even with the $8.3 billion generated by the company's traditional construction segment. Its operating profit, at just over $2 billion, actually topped construction's, a sign that demand from data centers building out AI infrastructure carries real pricing power. Caterpillar's order backlog stood at $72 billion at the end of June, up 92% from a year earlier, suggesting this shift has room to keep running.
The broader business backed that up. Sales and revenues for the quarter reached $20.5 billion, up 24% from $16.6 billion a year earlier, the first time Caterpillar has crossed $20 billion in a single quarter. Profit per share rose to $7.77, while adjusted operating margin expanded to 21.9% from 17.6%. Alongside $4.4 billion in operating cash flow, the company kept investing in the workforce feeding that growth. The Arkansas commitment, worth up to $3 million, is the fifth allocation under Caterpillar's five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative, following earlier launches in Indiana, Texas and Illinois. It brings in training partners including the University of Arkansas Pulaski Technical College and the Little Rock Regional Chamber around a North Little Rock plant that already employs more than 530 people and works with 60 suppliers in the state.
None of that growth comes cheap. Caterpillar shares have climbed nearly 90% over the past year on AI-driven optimism, pushing the forward price-to-earnings ratio above 30. That makes the stock more expensive than Microsoft, Alphabet or Nvidia, three companies most investors would call the faces of the AI boom rather than a maker of generators and mining trucks. For decades, Caterpillar traded below the S&P 500's long-run average multiple because its construction business tends to grow in the single digits, a pattern that made the market wary of paying up for the name.

The Tennessee ******* ans have completed the 2026 preseason. The next order of business on the NFL calendar is roster cuts. NFL teams will have until 5:00 PM Central on Sunday, August 30th to get their rosters down to 53 players. Cuts will start coming out as soon as tonight.
It's important to keep in mind that the 53-man roster that comes out first probably won't be the 53-man roster for week one against the New York Jets. With so many guys being cut across the league, the ******* ans will certainly see a few guys out there who can help them.
After the waiver period, the ******* ans will start to sign guys to the practice squad.
