The U.S. Treasury is considering using its near-$950 billion General Account to help fund its recently announced bond buyback program, according to CNBC, citing two senior Treasury officials. The officials said the account is considered available for purchases of off-the-run securities but declined to specify how much, if any, would be used or when an announcement might come.
The TGA, which functions as the federal government's primary operating account at the Federal Reserve, stood at roughly $950 billion as of the officials' comments — a figure that dwarfs the $550 to $600 billion level that the Biden administration had aimed to maintain. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent built the balance to its current level, and officials said it is funded with existing tax collections.
The prevailing expectation in markets was that the purchases would be paid for through new short-term bill sales, an approach Bessent labeled a "Treasury Twist" during a CNBC appearance last week. The senior officials did not rule out that approach, but made clear the TGA represents an additional potential funding source.
Tapping the TGA could counter doubts expressed by ******* ysts who have argued that the program lacks the scale to exert any real influence on long-term yields. Since the buyback announcement last week, bonds had retreated from an initial rally, pushing yields higher.
Officials indicated they do not view a partial TGA drawdown as creating any near-term cash management problem. Current projections put the next debt-ceiling bind sometime between next winter and early spring, which officials said provides a reasonable window to restore the balance before any constraint bites. Should the Treasury choose to hold the TGA near its current level after using some funds for buybacks, it would need to conduct additional debt sales to restore the account.

Tired of bonds falling or tying your cash up in "high yield" savings accounts paying just 3.4%? The bank of Elon Musk's X is pitching an alternative — with a catch.
X Money, the financial section launched in July of Musk's "super-app" tied to the social media platform, is offering to pay 6% annual yields on some cash deposits. That's considerably higher than you'll find at most savings accounts and even certificates of deposit. X Money also includes FDIC insurance up to $250,000.
The difference is vast, especially for investors who hold large amounts of cash. A $100,000 deposit in X Money would pay roughly $6,000 in the first year. That's nearly $2,000 more than you'd earn in Year One in the highest-yielding high-yield bank in the U.S., says Bankrate.com.
Tapping his roots as cofounder of PayPal, Musk is working to turn his X into a super-app. Rather than simply being a way to access the X social media platform, he's working to make it into a go-to source for AI and banking, too.
X Bank isn't a bank, per se. But it has a partnership with a real bank: Cross River Bank in New Jersey. Interestingly, X Bank is paying even more on deposits than Cross River is. Cross River is paying just 3.3% on savings balances of $1 million or more.

Jennie performed at the Summer Sonic Festival, one of ***** an's premier annual music festivals, in Tokyo, where she exclusively wore custom Calvin Klein Collection.
Justin Choe & Esther Kim
Both looks were unmistakably Calvin Klein, but what made them particularly interesting was the way the house revisited its own history while tapping into two fashion conversations that continue to dominate celebrity dressing: archival references and upcycling.
For her first look, Jennie wore a custom Calvin Klein Collection outfit inspired by a Spring-Summer 1993 runway look worn by Kate Moss.
Kate's influence on fashion remains unmatched, so returning to one of her early Calvin Klein runway moments feels especially fitting for Jennie. The original look captures the stripped-back denim-and-underwear aesthetic that became synonymous with the brand in the '90s, and more than three decades later, Jennie is showing just how relevant it can still feel.

Most NFL head coaches spend August talking down workloads and hyping committee backfields. The training camp stories are about guys who put on 10 pounds of muscle or are in the best shape of their lives. The coachspeak is always there, and fantasy football managers can't help but roll their eyes with every headline.
However, one first-year NFL coach did the opposite this week. He went live on a national sports talk show and promised to run his best player into the ground, quite literally, and fantasy football managers should be thrilled.
Dolphins head coach Jeff Hafley appeared on the Rich Eisen Show and laid out a plan for De'Von Achane that sounds built for fantasy lineups. He said the running back got a warning that morning. "I just gave Achane a heads-up this morning and told him he better be in good shape. Because I told him there might be some games where I might have to pick him up and carry him back into the locker room because he's going to be so tired."
Then Hafley went further, adding that he doesn't want Achane asking for a breather by tapping on his helmet. "And I told him, I don't ever want to see one of these head taps all year. And he looked me right in the eye and said, 'You'll never get that head tap from me.' I said, 'Don't worry, buddy. After you touch the ball 40, 45 times, I might have to pick you up, and I'll carry you back in the locker room.'"
Hafley, who's definitely just having fun in the moment and not talking about a serious strategy, also praised the 24-year-old back as a leader and a smart player. "I love the guy. I mean, you want to talk about a guy with some juice and a guy with personality starting to come out. A guy who's starting to become a leader." He added, "He's one of the smarter players."

Saia President and CEO, Fritz Holzgrefe, shares insights into the current LTL freight market, including customer sentiment and Saia's strategic network expansion. Discover how Saia's investment in new terminals and workforce is cutting transit times, offering unparalleled service, and driving growth in competitive markets across the U.S. Holzgrefe also discusses navigating inflationary costs and balancing wage increases while maintaining a focus on customer value. #LTL #FreightMarket #SupplyChain
Saia has opened 70 terminals since 2017 as part of a deliberate, multiyear organic expansion that CEO Fritz Holzreif says is still far from its full potential. Since 2023 alone, the carrier has added close to 40 new locations and replaced or relocated another 30 facilities — a pace of physical network transformation that Holzreif said no other LTL carrier has matched in the same period.
The buildout matters because it has unlocked transit lanes Saia could not previously offer. Customers can now ship freight from Trenton, N.J., to Texas markets in three days, Holzreif noted — a direct result of the denser footprint. "Customers are coming to us and say, 'Oh, fantastic, you can now get my freight from Trenton, New Jersey to Texas markets in 3 days,'" he said. "That's significant. We couldn't do that historically."
"We are early innings of tapping the full potential of this business," Holzreif said, adding that the roughly 40 facilities opened since 2023 have not yet reached the profitability or density levels the company believes they can achieve.

Quillan Salkilld has officially arrived as a serious contender at lightweight following his victory over Mateusz Gamrot in the UFC Vegas 120 main event.
Undefeated thus far in his UFC career, Salkilld was supposed to face his toughest test to date on Saturday but outside of a leg lock attempt from Gamrot early in the opening round, the Australian had his way with the veteran top-10 fighter.
After battering Gamrot on the feet, Salkilld decided to show off his ground game after scoring a perfectly timed takedown and then eventually transitioning to take the back. That's where Salkilld locked up the rear-naked choke with Gamrot tapping out to end the fight at 4:25 in the opening round.
That extended Salkilld's overall win streak to 13 in a row including six straight wins in the UFC.
"That feels f*cking good," Salkilld said after the win. "I just proved I'm the real f*cking deal. That's just how I fight. I want to take it to you where you think you're safe. I want to use all the weapons I have available in the **** nal. I believe I can get it done with the first minute or the last minute."

Quillan Salkilld leveled up last night (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) at UFC Vegas 120 LIVE on Paramount+ from inside the revamped Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the rising contender put a dominant stop to lightweight veteran Mateusz Gamrot with a main event first-round submission (rear-naked choke).
This was a big spot for both fighters, but especially Salkilld as this was his first UFC headliner. Many thought the 26-year-old Australian had the skills to keep climbing the lightweight ranks, but once Salkilld was pitted up against Gamrot things quickly became real. It was up to Salkilld to prove he's got the chops to fight the best 155-pound fighters in the world.
Salkilled did exactly that as he clipped Gamrot early into the first round with a short left hook. That forced Gamrot to quickly go to his wrestling and try to drag Salkilld to the ground. To Gamrot's surprise, Salkilld showcased an impressive ground game as he reversed multiple positions and was able to get back to his feet.
Moments later, it was Salkilld who changed levels and scored a takedown on Gamrot. It was a shock to Gamrot since he's the one usually landing on top. Salkilld eventually work his way to Gamrot's back and locked in the rear-naked choke. Gamrot fought for a few seconds before tapping out and handing Salkilld his sixth-straight UFC win.

When you refinance your mortgage, you replace your existing home loan with a new one for the same property. There are many reasons to refinance your home loan, from locking in a lower mortgage interest rate to tapping into your equity. Understanding the process can help you prepare and save money along the way.
First things first: Ensure you're financially prepared to refinance.
Check your credit score and see if there are ways to improve it before refinancing. Your credit score plays a big role in your ability to get approved and will influence your interest rate.
You should also calculate your debt-to-income ratio (DTI) and consider paying down some debts, because a lower DTI can help you more easily qualify for your loan.

Texas A&M's No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class has yet to be challenged, outside of Notre Dame, and the Texas Longhorns are making significant strides over the past month, but after five-star cornerback John Meredith reclassified to the 2026 signing class, only the Fighting Irish have a real shot at challenging the Aggies for the top spot.
Unanimously ranked No. 1 in 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN's recruiting rankings, coach Mike Elko, who is entering his third season at the helm, also leads the nation with six five-star commitments in ESPN's rankings after securing blue-chip wide receiver Eric McFarland III in late June.
On paper, Texas A&M's future offensive and defensive lines are all but secured with five-star tackle Mark Matthews leading the way as the program's top-ranked commit, paired with fellow five-star OL Kennedy Brown, who is considered the better overall offensive line prospect, according to ESPN. Coupled with four-star tackles DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott, OL coach Adam Cushing isn't lacking NFL-level talent in the trenches.
As ESPN's Craig Haubert notes, Mike Elko's defensive background and continued role as the team's defensive play-caller have helped secure commitments from five-star Edge Zyron Forstall and four-star pass rusher Kaden McCarty just a year after former Bowling Green Edge Cashius Howell earned unanimous All-American status with an SEC-leading 11.5 sacks.
"Mike Elko is tapping into his defensive roots with the Aggies' 2027 class. Looking to reload a unit that was among the best at getting to the quarterback in 2025, five-star edge Zyron Forstall, out of IMG Academy, is not a hulking physical presence, but he has an explosive first step and plays with excellent pad level and strength at the point of attack."

Five months of mostly closed Strait of Hormuz have not sent oil prices spiking to $150 or $200 per barrel, as many ******* ysts had warned in March.
Even as more than 10% of global crude oil supply suddenly disappeared from the market, oil didn't hit record high levels. Crude oil prices haven't even stayed permanently above $100 per barrel.
Three key drivers have kept oil prices from surging to never-before-seen highs. First, governments started tapping strategic reserves, including as part of the IEA-coordinated 400-million-barrel stocks release, to offset the 1 billion barrels of crude that never made it out of the Gulf in the first three months of the conflict. Next, Asia slashed consumption with fuel-saving measures and reduced refinery throughput.
Crash in China's Crude Imports Kept Prices Capped
Arguably, the biggest cushion the market has had was China's crude oil import behavior. The world's largest crude oil importer had amassed an estimated up to 1.4 billion barrels of crude in commercial and strategic stockpiles before the Iran war. The huge cushion allowed it to slash imports when the Strait of Hormuz closed, and prices spiked.

Many savers learn the hard way that using a 401(k) to build a retirement nest egg can have a major drawback -- early withdrawal penalties. Generally speaking, withdrawals from a 401(k) are penalized 10% when taken before age 59 1/2.
But thanks to a lesser-known rule, you may be able to take a penalty-free 401(k) withdrawal at a slightly younger age. And that flexibility may come in handy if you end up leaving your job in your mid-50s.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
The rule of 55 allows 401(k) savers to take penalty-free withdrawals under certain circumstances. Specifically, you must leave your job the year you turn 55 or later, and you must only withdraw funds from the 401(k) plan sponsored by the employer you've separated from at 55 or later.
If you follow these rules, you may be able to avoid a penalty for tapping your own savings. But there are some nuances to be aware of.

Wall Street is taking center stage in financing the AI buildout. On July 28, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META) and ****** et ‌manager BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) announced a venture to develop and operate a one gigawatt data center campus in El Paso, Texas. The project, costing about $14 billion in development, marks the emergence of a new financing playbook for the AI infrastructure boom.
The overwhelming cost of the AI infrastructure build out is prompting tech giants to go beyond self-funding, raising tens of billions of dollars in debt and tapping ****** et managers such as BlackRock for capital.
Last year, the tech giant spent $72.2 billion on capex, up roughly $30 billion from the year before. For 2026, it has projected capital expenditure between $125 billion and $145 ‌billion, up from its prior forecast of $115 billion to $135 billion. According to Chief Financial Officer Susan Li, the increase related to higher component pricing and additional data center costs tied to AI infrastructure.
This brings us to the question: Does the deal meaningfully reduce the cost of Meta's AI buildout?
As per Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META), BlackRock-managed funds will take an 80% ownership stake in the venture, while the tech giant will retain the remaining 20%. A part of BlackRock's investment will be financed through $12.5 billion in debt, while Meta will also receive a $1 billion distribution to align ownership.

July 29 (Reuters) - Shares in companies driving the AI boom have been under pressure for weeks. Now their bonds are coming under strain too, pushing up the cost of insuring debt issued by companies such as Oracle, Nvidia and Apple against default.
The move reflects growing ‌concern among investors about when the billions of dollars being poured into artificial intelligence will generate returns.
Technology companies have raised billions of dollars in ‌debt this year to fund AI investments, with firms including Nvidia tapping bond markets for the first time. But the cost of the AI build-out is so high that even blockbuster earnings have failed to reassure some investors about the durability of future returns.
Demand for AI-linked credit default swaps (CDS), a form of insurance against default that gained prominence during the 2008 financial crisis, has surged.

The year of tech companies tapping the debt markets to fuel their AI ambitions is far from over, and debt issuance is already busting through Wall Street projections, with five months left to go in 2026.
Quick insight: The numbers surrounding 2026 debt issuance border on mind-blowing.
In a new research note from Goldman Sachs strategist Amanda Lynam on Wednesday, she estimated that $489 billion of AI-related debt has been issued this year. That's already above Goldman's estimate of $322 billion for how much of this debt came to market last year.
About 40% of this year's AI-related debt supply has been issued directly by hyperscalers. Data center financing and other parts of the tech ecosystem have also contributed.
This year, Amazon (AMZN) has raised about $53 billion in debt, including a $37 billion US bond offering and more than $16 billion in euro-denominated bonds.

Kai Cenat is again tapping into his affinity for the Harry Potter franchise in the new trailer for this year's edition of his Streamer University program.
Yonna Jay, previously confirmed as a club director at the second installment of Streamer University, appears in the new trailer, which takes a decidedly cinematic approach to introducing the 2026 class. Once on the Hogwarts-style train, streamers madi2hottyy and Reemknocks start pondering all the ways they plan to enjoy themselves as students this year, including "weed" and "bottles."
Given Yonna's prior warning that "the dean does not like parties," it's not surprising that this leads to Kai himself popping up to kick the two off the train, telling them he's "disappointed" before launching into a reminder of his policies.
"No partying, no smoking, no drinking, no skipping class or breaking any of the campus rules," Kai urged to the remaining students, only to discover that Madi and Reem have snuck onto the top of the train in an effort to continue their journey.

Over the course of a year, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has seen a traumatic shooting, abrupt leadership changes and a shattering of its image as a globally respected public health agency.
So by the time the Trump administration started looking for a new director, there was one requirement that topped the search criteria.

On Wednesday, Schwartz — President Donald Trump's third pick to lead the CDC — appears before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee to face confirmation. She testifies alongside Sean Kaufman, the president's nominee for ****** istant Secretary of Preparedness and Response.
Schwartz's selection was aimed at bringing stability to the agency after near-constant upheaval that has decimated morale and deeply shaken Americans' faith in the administration's health agenda, senior health officials and others familiar with the matter told CNN at the time.

Penn State hired Matt Campbell to be the head coach to take the program to that one extra level that James Franklin couldn't.

But is the former Iowa State head manthe one who's going to push the program past Ohio State, and Indiana, and Oregon, Michigan, and USC to be the star of the Big Ten?

And that leads to the big thing that ultimately became the reason why Franklin is now the head coach at Virginia Tech.

Can Campbell win the really, really big games?
© Matthew O'Haren-Imagn Images
It was Franklin's anchor that his teams had problems against the top ten powerhouses - getting the Nittany Lions to the 2024 season College Football Playoff semifinals basically bought him a fat load of jack squat when it came to national respect - but he won a whole lot of games against everyone else.

Campbell won a lot of games at Iowa State, averaging over seven wins a season at a place not used to being a steady winner.

But he won just two bowl games, and one was the 2024 Pop-Tarts, thanks to Miami star quarterback Cam Ward tapping out at halftime.
Campbell got to two Big 12 Championship games and lost them both, went 3-15 since 2018 against Power Four programs that finished with at least ten wins - one was that Miami team - and ...

This could absolutely work, and right away.
Penn State has a good group of players in place. Plenty of the stars left, but enough are still around to provide a solid base.

Add a whopping 24 players from Iowa State - Campbell did win 19 games over the last two years - and other good players through the portal.

We are just a day a away from learning who the White Sox will make the overall No. 1 pick. But we couldn't let that happen without tapping the esteemed Reacts voting bloc weigh in. And among the trio of Roch Cholowsky, Grady Emerson and Vahn Lackey there was a clear favorite … position, that is:
What's interesting is that although White Sox scouts are said to favor Emerson and the front office prefers Lackey, Cholowsky as the presumptive No. 1 has remained so in the majority of mock drafts. Thus our voting base is going with the favorite, and as the most "known" quantity of the three Cholowsky could very well be the pick.
For the record, Brett's vote went to Vahn Lackey.
Otherwise, the national survey questions involved a sort of mid-year awards preview. At least one name — Shohei Ohtani — was expected. But there are no White Sox bandied about in the mix (heck, if there was a Rookie of the Year poll Munetaka Murakami might have even slipped out of consideration given his missing the past six weeks), so let's just flop all the surveys at you in sequence:
At least there's a former White Sox in the mix, however impossible his chances.
