In July, Microsoft (MSFT) CEO Satya Nadella surprised AI stock investors with an uncomfortable way to think about what they were buying into.
As I wrote for TheStreet in "Microsoft CEO adds fuel to Palantir CEO's AI warning," Nadella argued that companies weren't merely paying for tokens. Moreover, they were feeding outside models the prompts, corrections, and institutional knowledge that eventually make those systems useful for their users.
"You essentially pay for intelligence twice, once with money, and again with something even more valuable," Nadella wrote in his July essay.
Days later, that warning became a central part of Palantir's bull case. Now, two months on, Palantir and Nvidia, two of the biggest names in the AI ******* e, are starting to act on it.
Palantir CEO Alex Karp pushed the argument further, which I covered in "Palantir CEO escalates Microsoft's AI warning."

The aerospace industry is evolving as Boeing (NYSE:BA) attempts a massive operational turnaround while Rocket Lab (NASDAQ:RKLB) rapidly expands its footprint across the global ******* e economy.
Boeing remains a dominant force in commercial aviation and defense, whereas Rocket Lab specializes in small-satellite launches and ******* ecraft components. Investors often compare them to decide between an established giant recovering from crisis and a high-growth challenger in the private ******* e sector.
Boeing operates as a massive player among defense stocks and commercial aviation leaders, manufacturing everything from the 737 Max to advanced military rotorcraft. The company generates revenue through commercial aircraft sales, defense contracts with the U.S. Department of Defense and NASA, and global services. Customer concentration like this adds a layer of risk to the business. In 2025, the company acquired Spirit AeroSystems to address long-standing quality issues, providing transition services to other buyers like Airbus (OTC:EADSF).
In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $89.5 billion, representing a growth of roughly 34.5% over the previous year. The company reported a net income of approximately $2.2 billion, a significant recovery from the net loss of nearly $11.8 billion in FY 2024. This improvement in the net margin to 2.5% suggests the company is beginning to stabilize its bottom line after years of heavy losses.
As of its December 2025 balance sheet, Boeing carries a debt-to-equity ratio of nearly 10.0x, a measure comparing total debt to shareholder equity that indicates a heavy reliance on borrowing. The company reported a current ratio of nearly 1.2x, which measures a company's ability to cover its short-term debts with liquid ******* ets. Note that stock-based compensation represented roughly 40% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement. The company also generated a negative free cash flow of approximately $1.9 billion, representing operating cash minus spending on physical ******* ets.

Good morning. Stocks began trading on a more upbeat note on Tuesday as falling oil prices and Treasury yields lifted sentiment, helping markets shake off concerns about US tensions with Iran and Canada.
Here's a check of the markets in the first few minutes of trading, based on a heat map powered by Yahoo Finance AlphaSpace data.
Tech (XLK) stocks bounced back after posting losses on Monday, showing broad strength across semiconductor, software, and hardware stocks. Nvidia (NVDA) stock rose by about 2%, putting shares on track to end a seven-day losing streak if today's gains hold.
Investors fled Consumer Staples (XLP) names, reversing Monday's trading pattern. As Treasury yields and oil prices pull back and inflation jitters subside for now, it's creating a rotation into growth and technology plays.
Here are some notable stocks that Yahoo Finance readers are viewing this morning: Sandisk (SNDK), Marvell (MRVL), Intel (INTC), SK Hynix (SKHY), AMD (AMD), Bloom Energy (BE), and Lam Research (LRCX).

Shares of Walmart (NASDAQ: WMT) saw their worst one-day drop since 2022 after the retailer said it would use its approximately $2.9 billion in tariff refunds to lower prices for consumers, which would negatively impact its third-quarter results.

LONDON, Aug 19 (Reuters) - British artificial intelligence company Quantexa is considering a multibillion-dollar stock market listing in Britain or the United States, its chief executive told Reuters.
"We can list in the UK or the U.S., or both," Vishal Marria said, ‌adding that the company has not decided when to pursue a public offering and could remain privately held.
A U.S. listing would ‌deal a further blow to London's stock market, which has seen a string of companies opt for U.S. exchanges. Marria said the U.S. offers a deeper pool of capital and the potential for a higher valuation than the UK.
Marria said Quantexa has been "IPO-ready" since January but declined to comment on the timing of any IPO.

T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s shares are down by 26% over the past year and by 8% year-to-date. As with other carriers, the firm's narrative depends on its subscriber growth, and more recently, on its ability to compete with ******* eX. The rocket firm, which now also markets itself as an AI firm, also operates the largest satellite internet constellation in the world. ******* eX also aims to offer its cellular service based on its satellites. On August 6th, Cramer discussed T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s latest earnings results:
"Some of these are, actually fear of, what's going to happen. I mean, look, T-Mobile was not perfect, it's a good example. T-Mobile was not perfect, it was deceleration of what I'm used to. And then it's a one-two punch, because it's that and then it's ******* eX."
After T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) reported its second quarter earnings in the morning on July 23rd, the shares closed a whopping 11% lower on the same day. The results saw the firm's profit per share beat ******* yst estimates. However, a key factor in its narrative, i.e. postpaid subscribers, missed estimates. As part of the earnings, T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) outlined that it expected to add 250,000 postpaid accounts in the third quarter whcih was quite low over ******* yst estimates of 275,000.
Additionally, during the quarter, T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s management also announced that more than 60% of its new additions chose its premium plans. These plans can prove to be more profitable in the future but at the cost of higher customer churn. However, during the call, management also warned that the new plans can increase its churn rate. While T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS) outlined that its postpaid churn was 0.85% in the second quarter, the 250,000 subscriber addition guide was based on the costs of the shift to the premium plans.
The focus on the premium and positive metrics, such as a low churn appear to be reflected in T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s valuation as well. The firm's shares trade at a forward P/E ratio of 16.45, which is higher than Verizon's P/E of 9.38. 85 out of the 1,022 hedge funds part of Insider Monkey's Q1 2026 database had held T-Mobile US Inc. (NASDAQ:TMUS)'s shares. Furthermore, the short interest appeared to have cleared out a bit after the post-earnings share price movement. As of July-end, it was 3.79% of the float, which was lower than mid-July's 4.70%.

Medicare's two-year lookback treats a one-time home sale gain as recurring income, spiking Part B premiums for retirees who enroll at 65.
A single filer with MAGI above $500,000 pays $689.90 monthly for Part B alone, up from the standard $203, plus extra Part D surcharges.
The IRMAA surcharge is temporary, but timing the home sale outside the two-year Medicare lookback window can prevent it entirely.

The scenario is common enough that Medicare planners have a name for it: the IRMAA cliff. A homeowner sells her longtime residence at 63, walks away with a large capital gain, and files a tax return that looks nothing like her usual retirement income. Two years later, when she enrolls in Medicare at 65, the Social Security Administration reaches back to that inflated return and prices her Part B and Part D premiums as if she earns that much every year. In reality, the gain was a one-time event, while the surcharge lingers.

Wall Street is taking center stage in financing the AI buildout. On July 28, Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META) and ****** et ‌manager BlackRock, Inc. (NYSE: BLK) announced a venture to develop and operate a one gigawatt data center campus in El Paso, Texas. The project, costing about $14 billion in development, marks the emergence of a new financing playbook for the AI infrastructure boom.
The overwhelming cost of the AI infrastructure build out is prompting tech giants to go beyond self-funding, raising tens of billions of dollars in debt and tapping ****** et managers such as BlackRock for capital.
Last year, the tech giant spent $72.2 billion on capex, up roughly $30 billion from the year before. For 2026, it has projected capital expenditure between $125 billion and $145 ‌billion, up from its prior forecast of $115 billion to $135 billion. According to Chief Financial Officer Susan Li, the increase related to higher component pricing and additional data center costs tied to AI infrastructure.
This brings us to the question: Does the deal meaningfully reduce the cost of Meta's AI buildout?
As per Meta Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ: META), BlackRock-managed funds will take an 80% ownership stake in the venture, while the tech giant will retain the remaining 20%. A part of BlackRock's investment will be financed through $12.5 billion in debt, while Meta will also receive a $1 billion distribution to align ownership.

Distressed investors are, by their nature, optimists. They must be, since they see bargains and opportunities where other investors fear to tread. True to form, recent conversations with a number of distressed players reveal a significant distressed opportunity set in the back half of 2026 in the face of a roaring US equity bull market and a vibrant US economy.
Beginning on a positive note, "the US economy is doing well and isn't likely to turn south in the next six to 12 months," says Jeremy Burton, managing director and portfolio manager at PineBridge Investments. Even the rise of oil prices isn't of great concern for Burton, as he believes that the hit to consumers from rising oil prices in one region of the country will be offset by a healthy oil-and-gas-based economy in another region. As a result, the opportunities are more sector-specific, he believes.
Concurring with Burton's relatively sunny view are Morgan Stanley strategists Vishwas Patka and Joyce Jiang, who, in a recent piece covering their mid-year outlook, said "capex growth and a resilient consumer support a stable macro environment with strong earnings, while attractive yields anchor robust [debt] demand." This bodes well for business growth and equity generally, the pair said.
That health is reflected in the numbers. PitchBook LCD reported on July 1 that the trailing 12-month default rate for the Morningstar LSTA US Leveraged Loan index was only 0.97% by dollar amount and 1.34% by issuer count. The default rate by count, including Liability Management Exercises (LMEs), was 2.77%.
But danger in the leveraged loan index lurks. The index's distress ratio by amount (defined as the share of loans trading below 80 cents on the dollar) rose 34 bps in June, to 6.87%. In fact, the distress ratio has trended higher over the past nine months after plumbing a near-term low of 2.59% in September 2025. The peak for 2026 is 7.23% in March, which was the result of six consecutive monthly increases and marked the highest level since the distress ratio hit 7.36% in December 2022, in the midst of a series of US fed funds rate hikes by the FOMC. Roughly 45% of the debt trading under 80 is in software-related sectors.

Just when we thought things were going in a good direction, tensions in the Middle East escalated again. If things worsen, it may eventually impact broader equities. Even if that doesn't happen, it's always useful for investors to buy shares in solid, dividend-paying corporations that can perform relatively well -- and continue raising their payouts -- regardless of economic conditions.
Let's consider two excellent stocks that fit the bill: AbbVie (NYSE: ABBV) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ). Both are Dividend Kings, or companies with at least 50 consecutive years of dividend increases. Here's why they are among my favorite stocks in this elite group to buy right now.
