CLEVELAND (AP) — Shane Bieber's homecoming at Progressive Field gave him all the warm and fuzzy feelings he had hoped. It was perfect — except for one thing.
He didn't get to pitch.
"I was definitely looking forward to that," Bieber said Tuesday. "But it will happen. I trust it will happen at the right time."
Bieber, who won the AL Cy Young while pitching for Cleveland in 2020, made his first trip back to face the Guardians since the club traded him to Toronto last season. The 31-year-old said it felt "odd" walking up the steps into the visitor's dugout and he was certain that watching the game from the other side would be different.
But Bieber, who's currently on the injured list with an elbow issue, was savoring the chance to catch up with former teammates, coaches and others. He spent nearly an hour on the field holding court behind the batting cage, sharing hugs, laughs and long embraces with friends he considers family.

By the time Cincinnati Bengals players returned to their lockers post-practice on Sept. 1, they were well into the countdown toward the Week 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 13. The excitement of setting what's expected to be a deeper, more talented 53-man roster, plus the 16-player practice squad, had mostly faded.
Only two days earlier, several Bengals players were basking in the achievement of earning a spot on the initial 53-man roster, which teams across the NFL set Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. EDT. Other veteran players and coaches were savoring the depth, which was anticipated prior to training camp on the defensive side but eventually grew to include offensive players, too.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, who anticipated a tense and challenging weekend of sifting through difficult personnel decisions to arrive at his 53-man roster, said he ended up enjoying the cut-down process.
"It was ultimately fun to put together because we feel like we're really deep, even going out to the practice squad," Taylor said. "Yes, it was very challenging letting guys know that in other years maybe they would have made the 53, maybe would have made the practice squad, that they weren't going to get that this year or come back. But top to bottom, I feel like it's a really good group, and excited to get these guys."

IndyCar president Doug Boles flew from Ontario to Washington, D.C., the evening of Aug. 16 with as much trepidation as he had optimism. Boles, who typically travels to the site of IndyCar's upcoming race mid-week, wasted no time getting to the nation's capital ahead of the series' second-biggest race of the year, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
After IndyCar and promoter Green Savoree Racing Promotions made a poor first impression – having to call off Friday's practice session – at their new street race in Markham, Ontario, it wasn't clear what awaited for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, although this race was promoted by Penske Entertainment with ****** istance from Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Harbinger.
"Honestly, I was worried just because how Canada had gone," Boles told IndyStar in an exclusive interview.
But after a dinner with Penske Corporation president Bud Denker and the chance to see the 7-turn, 1.7-mile track come to fruition, Boles realized that IndyCar was "in good shape" for Saturday and Sunday's on-track sessions.
Once President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing the IndyCar race – which was won by Kyle Kirkwood – to occur around the U.S. Capitol Building, the series had less than seven months to check every box for the new street course. (It typically takes a year, sometimes two, to set up new street circuits.)

Across 46 episodes, ranging from 40 seconds to two minutes, Franco appears alongside established vertical actors Eric Guilmette and Neela Jolen. Guilmette, playing Jimmy's stepbrother Cameron Frank, and Jolen, who stars as Daniella Hansen, a junior creative at the company determined to rise in the ranks, embrace their roles with gusto despite a predictable plot and having to act through werewolf fangs.

The race moved to Markham after spending 37 of the last 40 seasons in Exhibition Place. With World Cup matches taking place at BMO Field this year and the downtown Toronto race being a rolling one-year contract, IndyCar moved to a suburb 20 miles out, where the series is set to race for another four years.
Fox is averaging 1.731 million viewers, which is up 16% from last year through 14 races (1.486 million). Aug. 9's Grand Prix of Portland received only 677,000 viewers – a 5% decrease from 2025.
IndyCar is in its second year of having all its races broadcast on Fox's network channel. Last summer, Fox acquired a one-third stake in Penske Entertainment, IndyCar's parent company. Markham marked the third straight race below 1 million viewers after eight of the first 11 races of the season surpassed 1 million (and only one was below 900,000). It's safe to say Paul Hollywood grew up on staple English foods like sticky toffee pudding, Scotch eggs, jam roly-poly, and beans on toast. And while Americans may think barbecue-less beans with a light tomato-based sauce piled on toast sounds just plain weird, many Brits are similarly perplexed by the idea of a peanut ****** er and jelly sandwich. Hollywood is one such Brit who used to think PB&J seemed like an unusual pairing — until he tried it, that is.
The renowned baker and television personality told Mashed that, while he had been curious about peanut ****** er and jelly sandwiches, having heard about them in movies, he didn't grow up with them and remained skeptical. "I was always like, 'What are you crazy? That doesn't go together,'" he said. He'd had both spreads separately before but only had them together when someone on "The Great British Bake Off" made him a peanut ****** er and jelly sandwich. Hollywood didn't fall in love with the sandwich but dubbed it "all right." At least he can now see the appeal of the beloved sweet-and-savory combination. So, peanut ****** er and jelly didn't wow Paul Hollywood. But one sandwich the "Bake Off" judge does love is an egg and cress, another traditional British favorite often served with afternoon tea. The simple sando features creamy egg salad and peppery watercress nestled between slices of soft bread. MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Jackson Koivun's inspired playoff run ended Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship with the 21-year-old closing with an even-par 70 to tie for 24th.
He needed a tie for seventh or better to have any chance of advancing to next week's BMW Championship and his postseason chances largely unraveled on the 11th hole. But the game's most promising young star said he's savored his time since breaking through for his first PGA Tour victory at last month's 3M Open.
"It's been fun," Koivun said. "Obviously, 3M was great and I had my game, but the last three weeks it's just been a learning experience. To be honest, I've never [played] four weeks in a row and learning how to recover and eat enough to not get exhausted.
"Looking back, if I play [No.] 11 in even par I'm playing next week and that kind of stinks, but I'm happy with how this summer turned out."
Koivun made a triple-bogey 6 on the par-3 11th hole Sunday, bouncing his tee shot off a walking bridge and chipping his next shot into a water hazard. With the race's promoter, Green Savoree Racing Promotions, being behind on preparation for the new street course in Markham, all on-track activities were placed on hold Friday before being eventually postponed to Saturday. This is the first year that the series is racing at the 12-turn, 2.19-mile street course after racing at Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto for 37 of the last 40 years.
"IndyCar is incredibly disappointed that our promoter was not able to complete the track build on time, despite significant support from our team on site," IndyCar president Doug Boles said in a news release. "Ontario has always been a magnificent market for our sport and the number of spectators that attended today is a shining example of that. New events can always pose logistical challenges and we join in the frustration of our loyal fans and apologize.
"Once we hit the track, we believe the circuit will be spectacular. We would like to thank the city of Markham for the major support it has made to provide IndyCar a layout, which is fast, technical and will put on a terrific show on Sunday."
Green Savoree Racing Promotions needed to receive and install the necessary tire packs for the tire barriers in runoff areas. The three support series in attendance – USF 2000, USF Pro 2000 and NASCAR Canada – completed their practice sessions Saturday morning before Indy cars got on track. IndyCar has another practice at 2:30 before qualifying at 6:30. The race begins at noon on Sunday.

In what could have been a great opening day for IndyCar on the streets of Markham, Ontario turned into bitter disappointment for the huge throng of fans in the grandstands and for IndyCar President Doug Boles.
Instead of racing action, the only wheels turned on the 2.19-mile, 12-turn road course was construction machinery still trying to complete the track build. Without enough key tire packs in place to make for a safe impact area, IndyCar officials cancelled all track activity on Friday and issued a revised schedule for Saturday.
That left Boles furious that the track was not ready in time by the promoter of this weekend's event, and a key, longtime IndyCar ally, Green Savoree Promotions.
"IndyCar is incredibly disappointed that our promoter was not able to complete the track build on time, despite significant support from our team on site," Boles said. "Ontario has always been a magnificent market for our sport and the number of spectators that attended today is a shining example of that. MARKHAM, Ontario – IndyCar's first weekend on the streets of Markham has gotten off to a disastrous start, with the series having to call off its Friday practice session for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham.
On Thursday, it became clear to those in the paddock that the race's promoter, Green Savoree Racing Promotions, was well behind on its preparation for the new street race on the 12-turn, 2.19-mile track. Despite the series reiterating its intentions to race Thursday evening and throughout the day Friday, Green Savoree Racing Promotions never got the track to a place that met the regulations of the FIA and IndyCar's competition team.
IndyCar's first open gate day in Markham collapsed as each hour passed, and no race cars made it on track. Throughout the day, spectators – who had free admission to Friday's (lack of) activities – were left mainly in the dark about postponements and eventual cancellations that took place. Green Savoree Racing Promotions failed to give consistent public address updates on changes to the schedule, even to the point of having teams pack cars back into transporters and drivers leaving the track before IndyCar made the postponement public.
Mishaps at new street circuits are bound to happen. The most recent example being in 2021, when grandstands were still being built the morning of the inaugural Music City Grand Prix in downtown Nashville. But Green Savoree Racing Promotions – which also manages the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Grand Prix of Portland – was unprepared for Friday to a level that is somewhat embarrassing for the promoter and the series that partners with it for multiple events per year.

Texas Tech has arguably adapted to the NIL/Transfer Portal era better than any team in the country, unsavory as it may be. Alum/Benefactor/Oil Tycoon/Slimeball Cody Campbell has given the team one of the top NIL budgets in the country and they have used it to elevate their talent level a clear cut above their in-conference competition. Last year, they last a single conference game, hammered the next two teams consistently over three combined meetings (BYU and Utah), finished in the top 10 in Offensive and Defensive SP+, and made a run to the CFP Quarterfinals. This year, Will Hammond looks like the starting QB, once he fully recovers from a torn ACL suffered early last season. Hammond is unspectacular, but gets the job done. The rest of the roster is loaded. RB Cameron ****** ey might be the biggest star, but the offensive line is probably the best overall unit. Even WR looks great with four big-time transfers coming in. They also took in basically an entire starting-quality defensive lineup through the transfer portal despite having decent returning production. They might not have anyone as dominant as DE David Bailey, but they are incredibly deep with proven players everywhere on the depth chart. Like Miami in the ACC, something would have to go horribly wrong to offset the talent advantage they have over the rest of the conference.

The Cougars once again fought to retain Kalani Sitake after another season where they performed above expectations. QB Bear Bachmeier was good as a true freshman, which usually means there is room to grow into being a true star. They reloaded their offensive line, including UW tackle prospect Paki Finau, who was blocked on the depth chart in Seattle. There are two question marks related to departures They have to replace their top three receivers from a season ago without obvious backfills. They also lost their DC, Jay Hill, to Michigan. Despite the loss of Hill, the defense returns lots of experience and production, which should ease the transition for promoted LB coach Kelly Poppinga. As is often the case with BYU teams under Sitake, the question will be about the offensive explosiveness. If Bachmeier has the receivers to make enough big plays, it looks like the defense and the running game should support a real contender.

King Charles and Queen Camilla may have access to almost any meal imaginable, but their former personal chef says their daily plates were far less extravagant than people might expect. Visen Anenden, who served as Charles' head chef for nine and a half years, revealed that the couple favored small portions, traditional dishes and ingredients sourced directly from the royal estates. CHICAGO — The mission for Friday's Yankees-Cubs game was to recreate one of my best baseball memories. In the late 1990s, while covering the Phillies, I spent a game in the Wrigley Field bleachers.
What made the day memorable then was meeting a longtime Cubs season-ticket holder who was blind. He had big headphones on to listen to the game on the radio. He was keeping score in Braille.
He savored all of the Wrigley smells, everything from burgers on grills to foul odors.
I thought of this man frequently over the years — every time I'd tell people about one of my favorite days as a baseball writer.
I shared this story with a few Yankees players over the past week while asking if they had any fan encounters with Bleacher ***** s.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Sarah Hodel and Rachel Koehler arrived at Robin Roberts Stadium more than four hours before the first game of the Women's Professional Baseball League. Once inside, Hodel stopped periodically for pictures as she walked along the concourse.
She wanted to savor every moment.
"Back in high school I was on my speech team and my informative speech was on women in baseball," said Hodel, a 43-year-old athletic trainer from Duluth, Minnesota. "So as soon as I saw this happening a couple years ago it was my goal to come."
That moment finally arrived on Saturday night, when Mo'ne Davis and the Los Angeles Queens took on Denae Benites and the New York Heights in a rainy debut for the first women's professional baseball league in the United States in almost 30 years.
"Growing up I played softball," said Koehler, 33, of St. Paul, Minnesota. "I wanted to play baseball because going professional was always like the dream, but there (were) no opportunities. ... So now that that's actually an opportunity and something that girls can look up to I think is amazing."

The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will return to St. Petersburg, Florida, in 2027 and share the billing with the NTT IndyCar Series' Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, Green Savoree Racing Promotions announced on July 23.
The Trucks Series race will be run again on the temporary street circuit where it debuted on Feb. 28, 2026. It is a 1.8-mile, 14-turn street circuit that winds around Pioneer Park.
The 2027 Trucks Series race will be on March 6, one day before the IndyCar Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
