AA Milne's first Pooh book was published a century ago in October 1926. Generations of children loved it, but its inspiration, the author's own son, told the BBC that he took to "running away when people bring up the subject".
"Pooh, promise you won't forget about me, ever. Not even when I'm a hundred." This is the plaintive cry made by Christopher Robin to his teddy bear, Winnie-the-Pooh, in the final chapter of The House in Pooh Corner.
British novelist and playwright AA Milne needn't have worried. The first Winnie-the-Book was published 100 years ago in October 1926, and introduced a cast of characters modelled on the author's son and the soft toys he played with: lovably dim Pooh Bear, nervy Piglet, hyperactive Tigger, pessimistic Eeyore. Far from being forgotten, in the century since then the characters have taken on a life far beyond the parameters of their idyllic home, the Hundred Acre Wood.

From 1966, they became the subject of animated and live-action Disney films, in what is now one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) introduced central contracts in 2000 as a way to give them more control over their best players.
Last week, the ECB issued 39 central contracts to men's players for the 2026-27 season. Of them, 30 were full central contracts; the other nine were development contracts.
For the 2025-26 term, the ECB announced their women's central contracts at the end of November. Then, 17 players were on full contracts and four players were on 'skills' deals, akin to the men's development contracts.
Should a player receive an ECB central contract, the ECB effectively becomes their primary employer ahead of the county side that they also represent.
It is expected that the ECB will pay most or all of a centrally contracted player's salary, although that will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

We could be nitpicky and say the dress needed to be half an inch shorter to avoid that slight break at the hem. We could also question the visible darts, although they're a familiar Prada detail. But despite those minor issues, Caitríona is selling this look to me.

Roger Clemens is not in the National Baseball Hall of Fame but he will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.
Clemens introduced Trump at a rally in San Antonio on Wednesday, with Trump dropping the announcement as the former pitcher stood nearby. During the announcement, Trump said he had played golf with Clemens earlier this year, which prompted him to call MLB commissioner Rob Manfred about his Hall of Fame case:
"We had a great time, he's an amazing guy. I said, 'I'm going to call the commissioner of baseball.' It's a ridiculous thing that you're not in the Hall of Fame with that kind of record. He won seven Cy Youngs!"
It's worth noting the MLB commissioner has no power over who gets into the Hall of Fame. That is determined first by voters from the Baseball Writers ******* ociation of America (BBWAA), then a committee of voters determined by the Hall of Fame itself.
Trump did successfully intervene on the part of the late Pete Rose last year, pushing Manfred to remove the league's all-time hits leader from the ineligible list. Clemens is not on that list, nor will Rose reach the Hall of Fame without a successful vote.

Kohl's is rolling out steep discounts for customers as it struggles to turn around its sales.
The department store chain revealed in its most recent earnings report that its comparable sales decreased 0.9% year over year in the second quarter of 2026, while recent Placer.ai data showed overall visits to Kohl's stores declined 1.4%.
Kohl's CEO Michael Bender said on the August earnings call that the company is "operating in a challenging macroeconomic environment" where customers are "experiencing persistent financial pressures from inflation in their everyday expenses, like gas and food."
Against this backdrop, Kohl's has taken several steps to make its merchandise more affordable. It introduced Deal Bar and Toy Towers in stores earlier this year, featuring products priced below $10. It also priced thousands of back-to-school items under $25 in July.

I'm sure this Erdem Spring 2027 dress needs no introduction after Sienna Miller and Troye Sivan wore similar versions to the War New York premiere and the VMAs, respectively.
What you will immediately notice is that, like Sienna's, Rosalía's dress fits closer to the body than the version we saw on the runway. I prefer this fit, as the shape feels better defined.

In the campaign, Burrow models studio-to-street looks intended to move between training, travel and time away from the field. Featured pieces include the Alo Suited Trouser, Alpha Shell Long Coat and Cotton Ribbed Parallel Sweater. The Alo Voyage Duffle, an accessory that has previously appeared in Burrow's game-day arrivals, also returns.
The campaign builds on Burrow's ongoing relationship with Alo, which encompasses fashion, athletic performance and recovery. He previously appeared in the brand's Conquer Collection campaign and helped introduce its Alo Runner performance shoe.

While many know RM as a member of the global sensation BTS, his fandom, known as ARMY, and those in the art world know another side of him: RM, real name Kim Namjoon, is an art collector – and now curator.
He, alongside exhibition co-curators América Castillo and Hyoeun Kim of San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, is now ready to show his personal art collection in RM x SFMOMA: Between You and Me.
Over the past few years, museums have faced low attendance, lost federal grants, and reduced funding. Museums have had to strategize what exhibitions people want to see, how to increase membership, and how to introduce art to the masses. Castillo says there have been more projects that the museum has taken on that have "pushed that boundary, even within their section of the art world." She had previously worked on a project called "Art of Noise" that focused heavily on music.
"It was the accumulation of those moments within the art world [that] there might actually be an appetite," Castillo states. "Then there was an internal opening, calling for ideas, and I just didn't hesitate saying, 'We should work with RM'."

Anne Hathaway faced an uncomfortable choice from Jimmy Fallon during her latest Tonight Show appearance. The pregnant actress had to choose between another Knicks championship and another Oscar. Hathaway ultimately chose the Knicks, despite being an Oscar frontrunner.
Hathaway appeared on The Tonight Show while promoting her upcoming erotic thriller Verity. Fallon also revisited her connection to the Knicks during the appearance. Hathaway is a lifelong Knicks fan and the New York City native.
The host first surprised Hathaway with a signed jersey from OG Anunboy. "Are you serious? Oh my god!" Hathaway exclaimed after receiving it. The Knicks also sent gifts for her baby, including a card signed by Anunboy.
Fallon later introduced a game called "Best Thing Ever" during the episode. The game forced Hathaway to choose between two things she cherished. One question directly targeted two major ambitions. Fallon asked Hathaway whether she preferred another Oscar or another Knicks championship.
Hathaway struggled before making her surprising decision. "I… I… OK….," she stumbled before choosing another Knicks championship. Her answer showed just how deeply her loyalty to the team runs. "I'm actually, like, the way my nervous system is reacting to that choice is really intense," Hathaway said. The difficult decision came while she was five months pregnant.
