Austria's national team head coach Ralf Rangnick announced his squad for the upcoming international matches this Monday afternoon - and our young goalkeeper Christian Zawieschitzky can celebrate his very first call-up to the senior national team! According to the coach, the plan is for our keeper to join the senior squad next week for at least the first two matches of the extended international break, before potentially switching to the U21 team for the European Championship qualifiers afterward.
It's certainly something you dream about as a small child. I used to attend open Austria training sessions just to watch, since it was in my neighborhood, and I even took photos with players like David Alaba. I never imagined things would move this fast and that I'd suddenly be there as a player myself, but I'm very grateful to have this opportunity. The call-up actually comes as a surprise to me. I thought that if I were to be included anywhere, it would likely be the U21s - which I would have thought was great, too. I didn't expect to be part of the senior national team right away. I'm just really looking forward to it - though I also know we have two matches coming up before the international break, and those are the priority right now.
Christian Zawieschitzky
Nikolas Veratschnig is also on board! Our wide player was previously named in an Austria squad last year but is still awaiting his international debut for Austria - his strong performances in recent weeks have now earned him another call-up
I'm absolutely delighted - honestly, even more so than before. I was with the national team once before but didn't get any playing time back then. My clear goal in moving to Salzburg was to prove myself again here and earn another call-up to the national team. I am absolutely delighted that this has worked out. I want to show the head coach what I'm capable of, give it my all in training, and make a lasting impression - and perhaps that will be enough to earn some playing time.

SV Telfs 1-15 FC Red Bull Salzburg Women (H/T:1-6). Tore: Monz (16.) - Triendl (4.), D'Angelo (21.), Kobler (22., 39.), Pamminger (37., 57./pen), Plattner (45.), Schwarz (64., 73., 84., 88., 89.), Wienerroither (78., 81.), Grünwald (86.)
Our FC Red Bull Salzburg Women easily advanced to the round of 16 of the Austrian Women's Cup against third-division side SV Telfs. From the outset, Dusan Pavlovic's team left no doubt about the outcome of the match. After the Tyrolean side's surprising equaliser, five-goal scorer Magdalena Schwarz and her team-mates added more than a dozen goals. The draw for the next round will take place on September 10th, live on ÖFB TV from 14:00 CEST.
"This isn't an outing - our approach can be no different than for a top-of-the-table clash in the league." – coach Dusan Pavlovic's instructions were put into action by our team. Although the motivated hosts briefly equalized with a 30-yard wonderstrike - a clever chip from Monz over goalkeeper Annika Bräunlinger (16') - the home side naturally couldn't keep up with our pace. Our set pieces also worked well, and our coaching staff celebrated three goals from well-rehearsed routines.
The substitutions brought additional attacking power to our Salzburg team, with Magdalena Schwarz scoring a particularly impressive goal. After a one-two with Katja Wienerroither, the summer signing slipped into ****** e and slotted the ball home – just one of Schwarz's five goals. While our team squandered several clear-cut chances, last year's finalists ultimately capitalised on their superior footballing abilities in the final stages of the match, scoring almost by the minute. With a 15-1 win, we put our 2026/27 cup opener behind us.
We put in a good performance, and the girls were focused. Some players who haven't started much recently got to play, but they all performed well and were on top form for the full 90 minutes. The girls always wanted to attack and go for the next goal – that's not something to take for granted, and it was a well-deserved win!

Juventus hosts Parma in their first home league game of the season this evening, and it is one of the fixtures to follow today.
The Old Lady is one of the top teams in the country, and after a strong summer spending spree, they have been tipped to outperform their previous campaign.
The men at the Allianz Stadium know Parma will not be easy opponents, and if they do not improve on their performance against Frosinone, it could be bad news for them.
They have already lost Kenan Yildiz, while Weston McKennie is also unavailable for the fixture, meaning the men at the Allianz Stadium will make some changes to the team for this match.
With Yildiz unavailable, Kerim Alajbegovic could be handed a start on the left wing, a position he played many times at RB Salzburg, even though Luciano Spalletti sees him as a number 10.

On Saturday, our ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga away tour takes us to face another set of last season's championship group opponents. Following matches against SK Sturm Graz and FK Austria Vienna, we now take on the perennial Austrian champions. Our team faces SKN St. Pölten at 14:00 CEST, with the match broadcast live on ORF Sport+.
As is well known, our previous encounters with the other top teams did not go as hoped. After a perfect start to the season taking maximum points from two games - our Salzburg side was unable to secure further results against these tough opponents. Now, a new opportunity arises - albeit against a team that boasts a flawless league record under their coach Laurent Fassotte and was in action on the European stage just yesterday. It remains to be seen how much energy was drained by a Women's Champions League qualifier against Italian heavyweights Juventus - a match the Old Lady won decisively, 3–0. Last season, we had to yield to the eventual runners-up, with the She-Wolves winning all four of our head-to-head clashes. Oliver Fix will officiate this showdown at the NV Arena.
In St. Pölten, we face our next top opponents and, consequently, a major challenge. For us, the key is to work for one another and stick to our principles, even under pressure.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the Hoops' main midfield targets following Arne Engels' £22million move to West Ham United over the weekend.
However, Celtic may now have to fend off Premier League interest if they are to bring the Lithuania international to Glasgow.
According to Europacalcio, Crystal Palace have set their sights on Gineitis and could soon open negotiations over a potential move.
Torino's asking price has been reported at between £8million and £12million, while Red Bull Salzburg are also actively interested, with Danny Rohl understood to be an admirer. Anderlecht have also reportedly made their interest known.

Lens overcame a first-half red card for defender Kyllian Antonio to battle to a 1-0 win over Paris St Germain in the Trophée des Champions at Stade Bollaert-Delelis.
Captain Florian Thauvin had given Lens, who won the Coupe de France for the first time last season, the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute.
Antonio was then shown a straight red card after his late challenge on Maghnes Akliouche six minutes before the break.
European champions PSG – who lifted the Super Cup on Wednesday night after victory against Aston Vila in Salzburg – saw a late equalizer from Fabian Ruiz ruled out for offside before substitute Nuno Mendes was also sent off with four minutes left for lashing out at Michal Skoras.

Paris St-Germain boss Luis Enrique sidestepped a question on Liverpool target Bradley Barcola's future.
The forward is wanted by the Reds with the club prepared to pay around £100m to bring the 23-year-old to Anfield.
Barcola is in the PSG squad to face Aston Villa in the Super Cup in Salzburg on Wednesday.
"I don't know and I don't want to speak about any player individually," Enrique said when asked about Barcola's future.
"Because it's always dangerous when you are asking something positive or negative about a player. I stay focused on my team."

Unai Emery is the king of the Europa League.
He won a fifth ****** le with Aston Villa in May - their win over Freiburg in Istanbul ending a 30-year trophy drought - but the Super Cup has eluded him.
On Wednesday in Salzburg Emery tries for a fourth time to win the competition, when Villa face Champions League winners Paris St-Germain.
Last season Emery declared he wanted to seal third place in the Premier League because he had not achieved it with Villa.
Finishing fourth was not a failure but it will have rankled with perfectionist Emery.

Finishing fourth was not a failure but it will have rankled with perfectionist Emery.

Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa kick off the European season this Wednesday, August 12, at Salzburg's Red Bull Arena in Austria, where they will contest the UEFA Super Cup final. The clash pits the reigning two-time Champions League winners against the English side in a high-stakes showdown.
In the pre-match press conference, Luis Enrique made clear the Parisian side's highest ambition for the 2026/27 campaign.
After winning the last two editions of the Champions League, the Spanish coach stressed that the squad is chasing an unprecedented feat in the modern format: winning a third straight European Cup to match Real Madrid's historic record. In addition, the occasion could mark Lucas Digne's debut against his former team.
For his part, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery acknowledged the French side's favoritism and did not hesitate to describe Luis Enrique as "the best coach in the world."

Newcastle's new head coach Matthias Jaissle has underlined the club's ambition despite a string of high-profile exits including manager Eddie Howe, but warned success would not come overnight.
Howe left St James' Park at the end of July after nearly five years in charge, with a clutch of senior players -- captain Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon -- all departing during the summer transfer window.
Saudi-backed Newcastle have signed a group of young players including Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, but the departures have left the squad short of experience.
Nevertheless, former RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli boss Jaissle remains upbeat.
"We are ambitious. That's the most important thing -- also why I decided to come here. But this will not happen overnight," he said at his first press conference at St James' Park on Tuesday.

The former Celtic striker was among the names seriously considered for the position before the Scottish champions ultimately turned to Martin O'Neill on a short-term basis.
Keane's potential appointment proved contentious among sections of the support, largely because of his previous spell in charge of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Irishman had appeared to be moving closer to the Celtic vacancy before Dermot Desmond eventually went in a different direction and handed responsibility to O'Neill.
However, former Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie does not believe Keane's managerial career should be defined by where he has previously worked.

Barely three weeks after the World Cup final, the first trophy of the new European soccer season is up for grabs in the UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa in Salzburg on Wednesday.
The annual match between the most recent winners of the Champions League and Europa League also offers another chance for more grandstanding by UEFA at the expense of FIFA at a time of a growing disconnect between the two powerful soccer governing bodies in light of the recent conduct of Gianni Infantino.
That's because refereeing the game will be Omar Artan, the Somali referee who was barred by the United States from officiating at the World Cup days before the start of the tournament because of vetting concerns. U.S. officials claimed Artan had connections to terror organizations, though without providing proof.
UEFA responded by picking Artan — a referee judged the best in Africa last season — to take charge of the Super Cup, a move that was widely celebrated in the soccer community and also was regarded as a clever political ploy by the European ****** ociation.
The disharmony between UEFA and FIFA has increased since, with UEFA leading the campaign to oust Infantino from the FIFA presidency over his recent — aborted — plan to sell an interest in the World Cup.

Two World **** les. One relentless standard. Austrian superstar Stella "Always Hungry" Hemetsberger has absolutely no intention of letting either slip when she steps through the ropes at ONE Fight Night 46 on Prime Video.
The 27-year-old makes her first defense of the ONE Women's Strawweight Muay Thai World **** le against Russian standout Natalia "Karelian Lynx" Diachkova in the main event of the blockbuster card, which will broadcast live in U.S. primetime this Friday, August 14, from Bangkok's historic Lumpinee Stadium.
The past 12 months have been nothing short of remarkable for Hemetsberger. She defeated Jackie Buntan in back-to-back matchups to capture both the ONE Women's Strawweight Kickboxing World **** le and the Muay Thai crown.
Both victories proved that the Salzburgian — only the third two-sport ONE World Champion in the women's division after Stamp Fairtex and Janet "JT" Todd — is no ordinary talent. However, none of that success has softened her competitive edge.
True to the moniker she has carried throughout her steady rise, the Austrian insists the version of herself stepping in against Diachkova is no different from the highly motivated newcomer who first turned heads on ONE Friday Fights.

Matthias Jaissle takes charge of Newcastle for the first time as they face Valencia in a pre-season friendly.
The former Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli coach was appointed after Eddie Howe parted ways with the club midway through the summer, bringing an end to a popular if occasionally turbulent spell on Tyneside.
Now the German will have the first chance to test out his philosophy as the Magpies visit the Estadio de Mestalla, with Newcastle arriving off the back of a decidedly mixed run of pre-season games - a 3-0 win over Darlington followed a 1-1 draw with Gateshead and a 4-1 mauling by Championship club Bristol City.
They then face Everton, Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg before the start of the Premier League season, with Jaissle overseeing a very different squad to last term after the departures of major names Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Kieran Trippier.
Here's everything you need to know.
