Aug 22 (Reuters) - Ukrainian drones killed at least six civilians overnight in a wave of strikes on Russia overnight that also hit a warehouse owned by online retailer Ozon and an industrial facility in the Samara region, Russian regional officials said on Saturday.
In a post on Telegram, Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev said that several people had been wounded in the strikes. He did not name the industrial facility struck, but Ukraine's military said it had struck the region's Novokuibyshevsk refinery, causing a fire.
Ozon, Russia's second-largest online retailer, said in a statement on Telegram that work at its Samara region logistics centre in the town of Chapayevsk had been halted after the strike, which it said caused injuries.
The strike is the first on Ozon, after weeks of drone attacks on its larger rival Wildberries, which Ukraine has cast as part of a wider campaign against economic infrastructure underpinning the Russian war in Ukraine.
Elsewhere, in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar, Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said that two children had been killed and two adults wounded in a strike on the Sea of Azov port town of Yeysk. He said a fire had broken out at an unnamed facility at the town's port.

Jenna Ortega is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now, and a lot of that fame is thanks to her big Netflix hit, Wednesday. The 23-year-old recently reflected on the moment she realized the series would be life-changing, and whoa, what a story!
Wednesday first became available to stream with a Netflix subscription the day before Thanksgiving in 2022. And it still holds the record for the streaming service's biggest English-language series debut ever, almost four years later. Here's how Ortega knew the show was going to change her life:
It really was overnight. I think it was on Thanksgiving and I was on a walk with my nephew and some lady did some illegal behind-the-wheel work to get around so that I would take a photo with her daughter. And, they were like screaming from their car and I was wearing sweats and no makeup. The show had come out maybe a day or two before.

September WTI crude oil (CLU26) is up +1.42 (+1.67%) on Tuesday, and September RBOB gasoline (RBU26) is down -0.0122 (-0.37%).
Crude oil and gasoline prices are mixed today, with crude oil posting a 3-week high. Today's sharp decline in the dollar index ($DXY) to a 2.5-month low is bullish for energy prices. Also, the lack of a clear path to a resolution in the Middle East is keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed and limiting crude supplies from the Middle East, keeping upward pressure on oil prices. Today's weekly EIA inventory report was mixed for crude and gasoline prices.

The dollar index (DXY00) tumbled to a 2.5-month low today and is down by -0.76%. The dollar retreated today after the US Treasury boosted liquidity and announced plans to increase buybacks of long-dated bonds. Lower T-note yields today have also weakened the dollar's interest rate differentials.
The US Treasury announced today that it will at least double the maximum size of its liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon sizes to at least $4 billion per operation, effective September 9.

Eric Morris, the Oklahoma State coach, revealed this week that he recently shot and killed an armadillo after it caused damage to his property.
Speaking to reporters, the former North Texas coach, hired to rebuild the struggling Stillwater football program, described his overnight encounter with the armored mammal.
"My brain's going constantly and so ... I don't sleep very well," he said Tuesday. "I've had a couple of armadillo problems tearing up my lawn. Finally, a couple of days ago I just popped up at 2:30 a.m. because I couldn't sleep, and I thought it was a great opportunity for me to go outside, and luckily I found him."

The incident marked the first time Morris had confronted an armadillo, which he noted "was crushing my yard, my flower beds, digging everything up."

Prince William is reportedly concerned about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to spend an extended period in the UK. The reported move has left William and Kate Middleton frustrated, with one source claiming the couple believes the Sussexes could eventually seek a larger role within the Royal Family.
PEOPLE reported that Harry and Meghan plan to return to Britain for an extended stay with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The development reportedly caught several members of the Royal Family off guard. King Charles is said to have learned about the decision only days before the news became public.
According to the report, Charles welcomes the opportunity to spend more time with Harry, Meghan and their children privately. However, his position reportedly remains clear: the Sussexes would continue their lives as non-working royals.
A source speaking to Woman's Day claimed William and Kate were "absolutely fuming" after reportedly being blindsided by the announcement. Palace insiders remain surprised by how Harry and Meghan plan to balance their commercial projects while living in Britain. For William, however, the bigger concern reportedly involves what the Sussexes might want from their return.
"William suspects Harry and Meghan actually do think they're going to be accepted back onto the Royal roster," the source claimed. "It may not happen overnight, but William's convinced this is their long game," the source said. Harry has continued to maintain connections with causes linked to his royal background, including humanitarian work and the Invictus Games.

A couple of weeks ago during "Market on Close," I fielded a question about refining stocks like Valero (VLO), Marathon (MPC), and Phillips 66 (PSX). I basically said the price action represented a pause, because the market had mispriced the risk in the refined product market.
It's a supply-and-demand story I've also detailed in this ***** e with regard to the VanEck Vectors Oil Refiners ETF (CRAK), which is now up about 10% since I made those comments on the livestream, and spiking to new highs today.

Exxon and Chevron more than doubled year-ago profits, combining for $26.6 billion in Q2 as the Strait of Hormuz closure spiked crude prices.
Gas prices surged from under $3 to $4.06 a gallon since the Iran war began, and Trump threatening to bomb mediator Oman risks driving them higher.
Exxon and Chevron's integrated models capture profits from well to pump, but a Hormuz peace deal could collapse the windfall almost overnight.

Aston Villa have received a warning over Ollie Watkins' future after Al-Hilal agreed personal terms with the England striker, according to TEAMtalk, with Graeme Bailey reporting on 18 August that the Saudi giants now stand ready to open negotiations. Al-Hilal still need to clear Karim Benzema's situation before they can push ahead.
Watkins, 30, comes off a campaign. He scored 16 Premier League goals and supplied three ******* ists in 37 appearances, then added five goals and two ******* ists in 15 Europa League matches as Villa won the competition. He went to the 2026 World Cup with England, and the Three Lions finished third after beating France 6-4 in Miami. Villa secured their first continental trophy since 1982.
From Villa's perspective, this timing could hardly look worse. Jhon Duran has left for Al-Nassr at the start of the year, Tammy Abraham has struggled to impress and carries an injury concern, while teenager Brian Madjo faces a spell out after picking up an injury. That leaves Watkins as the senior focal point when Emery's side needs attacking continuity. Watkins has scored 15 or more goals in four successive European seasons, so losing that output creates a problem that money can't replace overnight.

Personal terms, however, don't equal a transfer. Villa should reject any offer and demand a fee that reflects Watkins' importance and his contract, which runs until June 2028. A bid above £60-70 million would create a different discussion because Watkins is 30 and near peak market value.

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo stepped back onto the field Saturday and left it feeling more like himself than he had in a long time. The running back said he felt great with the ball in his hands, even as he continues working his way fully back from injury.
"I made some minor errors in my details of what I was doing, but for the most part, I felt good having the ball in my hands," Skattebo told reporters.
The mistakes were limited to small footwork issues on certain plays, the kind of details he plans to clean up in the film room. Mentally, the injury never entered the picture.
"If it's not hurting me or if it's not bothering me, my mind is clear of it. When I went out there on Saturday, I had no feeling or any recollection of injury in my brain. I was ready to go play football, and adrenaline gets going, so everything kind of goes away," he said.
That clarity did not arrive overnight. The long rehab process brought its share of darker moments, and Skattebo leaned heavily on wide receiver Malik Nabers, who has been navigating his own recovery. The two supported each other through the hardest stretches. As Skattebo regained health first, he was able to help pull Nabers out of a difficult mental ***** e.

On August 18, 2008, a 19-year-old Virat Kohli walked out at Dambulla and scored 12 on his India debut. Eighteen years later, the boy who was once a surprise selection has become one of the defining figures of modern cricket: a batter, captain, standard-setter, survivor and, perhaps most importantly, a player who changed what Indian cricket expected from itself.
Virat Kohli is not just an athlete; he has become a brand of cricket, inspiring a generation through his mindset, skills and, most importantly, his hunger for the game. That hunger made him more intense, more furious and, at his best, almost unbeatable. Across his career, Kohli has achieved almost everything: the U19 World Cup, ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy and Asia Cup.
There was nothing particularly prophetic about Virat Kohli's first international innings.
On that day at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Sri Lanka, the teenager walked out to open India's innings. He faced 22 **** , made 12 and was trapped lbw by Nuwan Kulasekara.
India lost by eight wickets. There was no century. No match-winning chase. No hint, at least in the scorecard, that something extraordinary had begun.
Eighteen years later, the numbers have become difficult to ignore.
As of August 2026, Kohli has played 314 ODIs and scored 14,941 runs at 58.59, with 54 hundreds and 79 fifties. He has 9,230 Test runs from 123 matches, including 30 centuries, and finished his T20I career with 4,188 runs from 125 matches. Across international cricket, that is 28,359 runs and 85 centuries.
Long before Dambulla, there was a December morning in 2006 that revealed something about Kohli that statistics never could. He was 18, playing for Delhi against Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy match at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He was unbeaten on 40 overnight when his father, Prem Kohli, died suddenly. Kohli returned to the ground the next morning. He scored 90. It was not just an innings. It was an early declaration of character.
Two years later, he was leading India at the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia. India won the tournament. Kohli scored 235 runs in six innings at an average of 47.
He had a modest start to his international career during the Sri Lanka tour. In the fourth ODI of that 2008 series, Kohli made 54, his first international half-century. A year later came his first hundred: 107 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata.
By 2011, Kohli was no longer a prospect. He was part of India's World Cup-winning side. He scored a century against Bangladesh in India's opening game and later walked into the **** hede dressing room during the final when India were 31 for 2.
He made 35. Not the sort of number that usually survives in a career built on hundreds. His 35 helped India recover alongside Gautam Gambhir, before MS Dhoni's 91 finished the job against Sri Lanka.
India won the World Cup. Kohli was just 22.

Reddit shares jumped more than 11% on Friday after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced the company will join the S&P 500 on August 18. The obvious explanation is that index funds now need to buy the stock. According to J.P. Morgan, demand could reach approximately 16.7 million (RDDT) shares. That is a significant number relative to normal trading volume. But the more interesting question is not simply who has to buy. It is how much of that buying has already been anticipated, who will sell into it, and what happens when the forced demand disappears.
Nothing suddenly changed about Reddit's advertising business on Friday. Its users did not become more valuable overnight. Management did not raise guidance. The ownership structure changed. That matters because stocks do not move only when fair value changes. Occasionally they move because the people who own them, or suddenly need to own them, change.

The Philadelphia Eagles knew they had something to work with when they drafted Jeremiah Trotter Jr. If nepotism alone worked out in their favor, he'd be pretty special. They also knew his path to a prominent role wouldn't necessarily be immediate. That seems prophetic now, but patience is being rewarded.
Trotter has spent training camp consistently finding his way around the football, making plays as a run defender and blitzer while showing the instincts that made him such an intriguing prospect coming out of the Clemson Tigers program. With first-round pick Jihaad Campbell alongside established starter Zack Baun, Trotter has another hurdle to clear before becoming a full-time contributor. Still, so far, he has made that decision a lot harder to stand on.
Camp has provided plenty of evidence that Trotter is ready for more responsibility. He has shown up repeatedly in run-defense periods. He has found creases as a blitzer, and he has played with the kind of downhill aggression the Eagles want from their linebackers. That production carried into Philadelphia's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. One can argue that Trotter was the best player that the Eagles put on the field.
He was especially active early, recording five tackles before halftime and delivering a delayed blitz that resulted in a sack of Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley. He didn't play the entire game, but he didn't need to. The Eagles got another valuable glimpse of what he can offer when given meaningful opportunities. What's becoming increasingly interesting is the company around him. Campbell received two early series alongside Trotter and continues to show why Philadelphia invested heavily in him.
Baun remains the veteran leader of this corps and one of the defense's most dependable players. Still, rather than allowing that depth to bury Trotter, the competition appears to be bringing out his best football. That's exactly what the Eagles should want. Trotter doesn't need to become a starter overnight to have value. A defense playing deep into the postseason needs linebackers who can step onto the field without creating a noticeable drop-off.

Indiana's major sports franchises are donating $250,000 to storm relief efforts, after severe winds and historic flooding caused at least seven storm-related deaths and property damage across Indiana.
The Indianapolis Colts and Pacers Sports & Entertainment, which owns the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever, will donate a combined quarter-million dollars to the American Red Cross, the aid organization that funds disaster relief and operates emergency shelters. The teams made the joint announcement Aug. 16, saying each organization will give $125,000.
The Red Cross is providing shelter, food and other relief supplies to Hoosiers affected by the flooding. The money will help ensure families have access to critical ******* istance and recovery resources now, said Terry Stigdon, CEO of the American Red Cross Indiana Region.
The organization is currently operating or helping to run 13 emergency shelters for displaced residents, Stigdon said. The Red Cross sheltered more than 200 people overnight on Aug. 15 and distributed about 4,700 meals and snacks.
"The American Red Cross was here before the storms hit, we are here now and we will be here for the months to come to help people recover," Stigdon said.

Devdutt Padikkal said his maiden Test century against Sri Lanka was the result of two years of hard work and preparation, after the left-hander scored a career-best 167 in the first Test at Galle.
Resuming from an overnight score of 131, Padikkal batted for 230 ***** and hit 15 fours and a six to help India reach 460/9 on a rain-hit second day. The Karnataka batter said he had long prepared himself to make the most of an opportunity at the international level.
"Definitely. I've dreamt of this moment. For the last two years, I've been working really hard to try and make sure that when I get that opportunity, I can do something special like this, and I'm really happy to do that," Padikkal said.
Padikkal played with positive intent against spin, using confident footwork and attacking shots to put pressure back on the bowlers.
"I think we have discussed that at length, especially when you're playing spin, it's important that you have certain plans in your head.
"You cannot go out there and expect to react all the time. It's important that we have a couple of shots in your head that you want to play as soon as you go out there, so that you can put some pressure on the bowler as well. So, I think over the last year or so, we have really worked on trying to find ways in our own strengths that you can really implement to make sure that you put pressure back."
He said clarity and complete commitment to every shot had improved his footwork and confidence.
Padikkal did not stop after reaching his century and converted it into 167. He said staying focused immediately after reaching a milestone was crucial.
"I think honestly, it's just the hunger to score more runs. I just enjoy batting out there, and the moment you get to 100, it's easy to relax and feel that relief. But it's important that for me, the next 20-30 ***** are the really important phase that I try and make sure that I'm completely focused, completely there.
"I think when I get past those first 10 ***** after 100, I think it makes my job a whole lot easier and over the years, I've seen so many cricketers get big runs, get big hundreds, especially back in Karnataka. So just watching them bat makes me want to do the same."
Padikkal expects the Galle pitch to become more challenging over the next few days. After his long innings in humid conditions, however, his celebration plans were simple: "Not really. I think I'm tired, so I'm just going to go back to bed now," he concluded.

TimesofIndia.com in Galle: The build-up to the second day of the Test focused on how many runs India needed before making Sri Lanka bat. Bat once and bat big had been the undertone of this fixture, and India's solid start on the opening day pointed in that direction. However, just like the weather, the mood changed at a frantic pace when Sri Lanka took the second new ball to dent India's hopes of batting the hosts out of the contest.
Three overnight batters, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul (who retired hurt on Day 1) and centurion Devdutt Padikkal, were dismissed in the first ninety minutes of play after the weather kept both camps confined to the dressing room for over five hours. From 'how much is too much' to 'how long will they survive', the nature of the conversations changed after a period in which the Sri Lanka bowlers sustained pressure.
Debutant Keshara Nuwantha was the wrecker-in-chief, and his adjustment of length proved ideal for the Day 2 surface, which offered sharp turn and encouraging bounce. Day 3 is widely considered the moving day in a multi-day fixture, but it came earlier than usual as Pant couldn't convert his start, Rahul was undone by sharp turn and an even better catch, and Jadeja was trapped in front by a delivery that went on with the arm from the perfect length.
Amid all the first-session chaos, the most **** ured batter from the visitors' camp held fort for a while, continuing from where he had left off, and looked set for a double hundred before falling for 167. Left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya took the prized wicket of Padikkal and later dismissed another set batter, Dhruv Jurel, who scored a breezy 51. Before being dismissed, Jurel looked very **** ured and added valuable runs with Manav Suthar, pushing India's total to a number that keeps them in a dominant position.
The right-hander remained busy, and there was a sense of urgency in his stand with Suthar as they negotiated the Sri Lanka attack during the closing hour of play. They got together when Jadeja was dismissed in the 99th over, with the scoreboard reading 377/6, and added 55 runs for the seventh wicket. Gill, in the pre-match press conference, had stressed the contributions from the lower order, and the partnership between Jurel and Suthar was the kind of effort he was looking for to keep the momentum on their side.
Galle was gloomy, the skies were angry, and the heavy downpour in the early hours meant the scheduled early start to make up for lost overs wasn't possible. To make matters worse, the constant hide-and-seek between clouds, sun and rain continued for over five hours, and even the groundstaff's best efforts were not enough as the rain refused to relent.
They kept removing the covers after seeing clear skies, but all the hard work was undone as the strong crosswinds kept bringing the dark clouds over the stadium. The moment clear skies ahead offered hope, the darkness in the rearview forced the over-100-member team to keep panning and cr

Aug 16 (Reuters) - Russia carried out a wave of airstrikes on Ukraine overnight, killing two people at a steel plant, and Kyiv launched a heavy drone attack on the Moscow region that killed one person and set ablaze a warehouse used by Russia's leading e-commerce retailer.
Romania, which borders Ukraine, said an F-18 fighter on a NATO air policing mission had shot down a drone that breached its airspace during the latest attacks. It did not specify the origin of the drone, which entered from Moldova, but a NATO spokesperson said it appeared to be Russian.
Russia struck Ukraine's largest grain export port on the River Danube near the Romanian border last week after stepping up attacks on Ukraine in recent weeks. Ukraine has also intensified attacks on Russian targets including oil refineries, and both sides have struck commercial vessels in the Black Sea.
In the latest attacks since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russian forces struck Ukraine's biggest steel plant overnight in the industrial city of Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's home town.

Police arrested a 19-year-old found hiding in a dormitory closet at Virginia State University on Saturday in connection with an overnight shooting on campus that left five people wounded, including one with critical injuries.
Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, is not a student on campus nor were four of the people injured, Chesterfield County Police said in a statement. They ranged in age from 17 to 23. One of the injured, a 20-year-old, is a student and has been released from the hospital, authorities said. The victims' names have not been released.
Authorities have given no information about a possible motive. Police obtained eight felony warrants for Harris, including for malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. It wasn't immediately clear whether he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
The university said in an earlier statement that authorities were searching for multiple suspects, but police provided no additional information Saturday evening about the search. University officials said earlier in the day that law enforcement did not believe there was an immediate threat to the campus community, and a campus lockdown had been lifted.
The shooting, just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, prompted a campus lockdown and came as students were getting ready for the new school year.

Ukraine launched hundreds of drones across Russia Sunday, killing at least six people in one of Kyiv's largest aerial attacks of the war.
Russia's Ministry of Defense said that it had destroyed 822 Ukrainian drones overnight. Some 600 drones were detected headed toward the Russian capital, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said, with a third destroyed over the Moscow region itself.
An 83-year-old man was killed after a Ukrainian drone hit a private home in the Moscow region, local Gov. Andrey Vorobyov said. He also confirmed that a Ukrainian attack had sparked a blaze at a warehouse belonging to Russian retail giant Wildberries in the town of Podolsk, where images shared by Russian media outlets showed columns of black smoke .
A drone attack targeted three towns in Russia's southwestern Rostov region, killing five people, local Gov. Yury Slyusar said. The attack, with more than 150 drones, damaged several homes and a railway station and sparked a forest fire.
Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russia this year, with long-range missiles and swarms of drones increasingly targeting military industries and energy facilities. It has also increasingly pummeled giant Wildberries depots, burning billions of dollars' worth of merchandise and bringing the war home to the Russian public nearly 4½ years into Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Radian Group (NYSE:RDN) delivered its Q2 2026 earnings on August 6, and the numbers marked a turning point. Total revenue jumped 93% year-over-year to $575 million, while net earned premiums more than doubled to $504 million, as the company's first full quarter with newly acquired specialty insurer Inigo showed up in the results. Book value per share climbed 8.5% to $36. With a forward P/E of just 7.19, the market doesn't seem convinced the growth will stick.
Radian's legacy mortgage insurance operation kept humming along on its own. New insurance written rose 14% year-over-year to $16.3 billion, and persistency held at 82%, pushing primary insurance in force to a record $284 billion. About half of that portfolio carries a mortgage rate of 5.5% or lower, so those borrowers have little reason to refinance away, which supports future premium income. Credit quality kept improving too. New defaults fell 9% from the prior quarter to roughly 12,400, and cures kept outpacing new defaults, dropping the portfolio default rate to 2.47%. That trend produced $20 million of favorable reserve development in the quarter, while the mortgage segment's expense ratio improved to 23% from 25% a year earlier.
The Inigo deal changed Radian's shape almost overnight. Specialty insurance now makes up roughly 50% of total revenue and 53% of net premiums earned, giving Radian a second, meaningfully sized engine. Capital returns kept flowing at the same time. Radian repurchased $76 million of stock in the quarter and about $50 million more so far in the third quarter, pushing year-to-date buybacks to $176 million, while Radian Guaranty sent a $200 million dividend up to the parent company.
The newly acquired specialty business is running into a tougher market. Management said competition is intensifying in property insurance and reinsurance and that rates continue to soften, a cyclical dynamic it says it expected when it underwrote the Inigo deal. The segment's net combined ratio came in at 98% for the quarter and 93% for the first half of 2026, elevated in part because Radian set aside reserves tied to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, covering both expected and potential claims plus updated inflation **** umptions across the insured portfolio. Management now expects a combined ratio in the low 90s going forward as softer pricing works its way into results, versus the high 80s it had been tracking toward before the reserve charge. Radian is also mid-transition at the top, with CEO-elect Mike Weinbach set to take over from longtime CEO Rick Thornberry, and it still had $75 million outstanding on its revolving credit facility at quarter-end.

The dollar index (DXY00) on Thursday ended the day little changed despite downward pressure from the dovish US PPI report, which lowered the odds of a Fed rate hike in September to 35% from 40% on Wednesday. In addition, the 10-year T-note yield fell -5 bp, undercutting the dollar's interest rate differentials.
The dollar was also undercut by reduced safe-haven demand as there were no overnight reports of new military attacks by the US or Iran in the Persian Gulf. Market concerns about the Middle East were also reduced slightly by news reports saying that the Trump administration is pivoting to using the naval blockade to apply economic pressure on Iran rather than new military attacks. There is no sign of any progress between the US and Iran on an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, although some ships are still getting through by turning off their transponders and hoping for the best.
