PEORIA — Marlee Wren is the ultimate late-bloomer, a woman who built a comeback story from a childhood of pain and fear and heartbreak and has emerged as an elite social media influencer with a powerful following.
"I'm slowly becoming what I wanted to be when I was a little girl, and it's all because of my true and loyal supporters," said Wren, 26, a Peoria resident. "The ones who have seen me since Day One. The ones who root for me and have my back."

Wren emerged from over 400 nominations in the 2026 Journal Star Content Creators contest and was a popular choice by readers who cast votes in an online ballot of 25 finalists. She was then chosen by a Journal Star panel for a place among the competition's eight winners.

The unveiling of a blue plaque at the former Surrey home of Paddington Bear creator Michael Bond was a "lovely" occasion with an unexpected surprise, the organiser has said.
Bond, who died in 2017 at the age of 91, moved to Fairacre in Haslemere in 1968, where he spent the next 10 years writing several Paddington books alongside the scripts for the original television series.
The unveiling on Saturday took place with the permission of current owners, Steph and Neil Stephenson, and was attended by Bond's daughter, Karen Jankel, who presented them with a special gift.
"It was the [Paddington] Bear that was Karen's as a child," Haslemere Society chairman Chris Harrison said.
Harrison said about 25 guests were invited but "the same [number] again" turned up to see the unveiling.

A Turkish content creator and former volleyball player, Ceyda Yakova, has tragically passed away in a motorcycle crash near the road in Şile, outside of Istanbul. She was 22.
According to Univision, Ceyda Yakova was alone when she lost control of her motorcycle and crashed into a roadside traffic sign. As a result, she suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where she passed away shortly after.
Eyewitnesses said she lost control when her rear wheel slipped during a high-speed turn. It was later revealed that Yakova had parked her motorcycle on the roadside for a short rest before the crash.
The family said they saw footage of the accident. Ceyda's father, Cem Yakova, said it was a relatively gentle bend rather than a steep one, and the motorcycle was moving around 100 kilometers per hour when the wheel hit gravel, causing it to veer suddenly as his daughter collided with the pole. His wife, Melek Yakova, said she did not consider her daughter guilty.
Yakova was buried in the Ayazağa cemetery, close to the Barbaros Hayrettin Paşa mosque, on August 18.

Eni Popoola took one of the most traditionally prestigious career paths as a lawyer and turned it into a lucrative career in the gig economy.
The New York City-based creator known as enigivensunday has a following of 428K on Instagram, 708.2K on TikTok, and 38.9K on YouTube. Unlike many of her peers, her start began with what was shaping up to be a very successful career path in corporate law with degrees from Harvard and Columbia Law School to match.
But before that, creating content became a reality for Popoola. After graduating from undergrad at Harvard in 2017, she pulled out a camera she'd used to document her senior year in high school and did a random, social media-led photo shoot with her older brother.
"We started doing that every Sunday for my outfits that I would wear to church, and that was the beginning," she recalled. "I didn't really intentionally create content, but I was like, "Hey, there's this day of the week where I'm dressing up, where I like the way I look, my outfit, I might as well post it on Instagram. And it happens every week, so let me post it every Sunday.'"
It was a conversation in January 2023 with a friend where Popoola posed the question, "How long are we going to give it to start doing the things we actually want to do?"

Alan Dershowitz said he is still a pariah on his beloved Martha's Vineyard, and fellow island vacationer Larry David still won't speak to him.
For several years now, Dershowitz has lamented his fallen status on the island, starting around the time he acted as defense counsel in President Donald Trump's first impeachment trial. Dershowitz, a staunch Democrat for 67 years, registered as a Republican this year.
On Tuesday, The Atlantic published an interview with Dershowitz by Mark Leibovich, who spoke with the famous lawyer and professor emeritus at Harvard Law. The piece is ****** led, "Alan Dershowitz Won't Forget What Larry David Did To Him."
Until 2021, Dershowitz and the Seinfeld co-creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm creator were friends, or at least friendly with one another. But that year, there was an ugly encounter at the Chilmark General Store, which Leibovich recounted thus:

A Pakistani TikTok content creator with 1 million+ followers was shot dead in her car in a city near Islamabad. Several people have been taken into custody in connection with the murder, which also severely injured her teenage sister.
Shamsu Bibi, 28, known as Ayesha Gilamana on social media, was killed in the evening of Aug. 14. Two men on a motorcycle appeared next to her car near a gas station on Grand Trunk Road and opened fire, shooting her in the neck. Her car lost control and collided with another vehicle, causing serious injuries to her 15-year-old sister, who was in the car with her.
According to the complaint by her father, Fazal Sahibzada, his daughter received a call from a man called Kashif, also Kashi, a few minutes before the shooting and was told to go outside immediately. She then went out in a car with her sister and brother, Naimatullah.
As stated by Sahibzada, he learned about the murder quickly and identified his daughter's corpse at the mortuary of a hospital in Taxila. He added that his son witnessed the crime and can recognize the two perpetrators who were about 30 to 35 years old.
According to the complaint, Bibi had sold a piece of land to two men named Kausar and Javed, and they threatened her after she demanded money. He mentioned those men and Kashif in the complaint, which he filed at the Taxila police station on charges of murder, attempted murder, and abetment. Those allegations haven't been confirmed yet, and no one has been convicted.

The Office creator admitted, however, that he hasn't changed his stance that marriage isn't necessary, saying rather that he is likely to wed author Jane Fallon in the coming years for tax purposes.
Assets left to your spouse or civil partner, provided they're living in the UK, are exempt from inheritance tax.
"And that will be the reason I marry," Gervais told Saga magazine. "It's mad. How more married can you be? We share all our money, we've been living together for 40 years. Some marriages don't last a year. It's horrible isn't it? I've got to get around to marrying, before I die."'
The comedian met Fallon when they were both 21 at university in London, and have been together ever since.

FC Bayern Munich have announced they will host a Team Day on the FC Bayern Campus in Munich on August 17th. The senior men's and women's teams — both double winners from last season — will return from their Asian tours and have public trainings at the campus. There will also be interactive events that will feature teams made up of three groups — players, content creators, and fans — going up against each other.
2000 tickets have been made available for the event, but if you cannot make it, the 12-hour event will be streamed for free on the teams Twitch and YouTube pages and moderated by the FC Bayern hosts, Lukas and Ersin. TikTok creator Sydney Towle, who documented her battle with a rare form of bile duct cancer for more than 1 million followers, has died. She was 26.
Towle's family announced her death in a post shared on her social media accounts Thursday, Aug. 6, one day after she died.
"We will always love you so much Sydney," the caption under the post read. "I am so proud of how hard you fought. I love you."
The post included a photo of Towle on a mountaintop alongside the message: "Rest in Peace Sydney Towle. An endless ray of sunshine. A daughter, a sister and friend to so many."
The announcement came a day after Towle's brother, Austin Towle, shared that she has entered hospice care, saying she was surrounded by family and friends as her yearslong battle with cancer neared its final stages.
