If part of the challenge for Andoni Iraola when he took the Liverpool job was mastering the art of winning Premier League games after midweek Champions League dates, he failed his first test. An Anfield afternoon against a side with the wrong sort of 100 percent record ought to have been the ideal introduction to such ******* ignments.
Instead, Fulham got their first point of the season. A Spanish manager with a playing career at right-back had much to savour; but it was Alvaro Arbeloa, not Iraola. A terrific defender under Rafa Benitez, Arbeloa contributed to many a clean sheet in his time at Liverpool. Now Fulham have a first in the Premier League in his reign. Having conceded three goals to left wing-backs against Crystal Palace last week, they conceded none to Liverpool's three £100m men.

On a cloudy, seventeen-degree evening in the federal capital, 1. FC Union Berlin (0-1-1, 15th) played host to FC Schalke 04 (0-1-1, 14th) in the third matchweek of their 2026/27 Bundesliga campaigns at Stadion An der Alten Försterei.
Union Berlin, in their eighth Bundesliga season, managed to draw Eintracht Frankfurt 3-3 on the opening matchweek, but failed to land a single shot on target in an 0-4 defeat to Bayer 04 Leverkusen last weekend. As for Schalke, who return to the Bundesliga for the first time since 2022/23, they lost their opener 0-3 to FC Augsburg but managed to follow it with a scoreless draw against the reigning German champions, FC Bayern München.
This is the seventh meeting between the two sides in their histories, with the current head-to-head record an even 1-4-1. Schalke's lone win came in 2019/20, a 2-1 result at Veltins-Arena - Union's only victory was a dominant 6-1 result in the 2022/23 season, with that match also having been played in Gelsenkirchen. With the other sixteen teams yet to play their third matches, the winning side from this match would move up to seventh place in the table, and will likely be in the middle of the table by the time that all matches are complete on Sunday.
The hosts, in red, would kick off the match and go left to right in the opening term, with Schalke, in blue, going right to left when on the attack. From the outset, Dusan Pavlovic's team left no doubt about the outcome of the match. Although the motivated hosts briefly equalized with a 30-yard wonderstrike - a clever chip from Monz over goalkeeper Annika Bräunlinger (16') - the home side naturally couldn't keep up with our pace. Our set pieces also worked well, and our coaching staff celebrated three goals from well-rehearsed routines.
The substitutions brought additional attacking power to our Salzburg team, with Magdalena Schwarz scoring a particularly impressive goal. After a one-two with Katja Wienerroither, the summer signing slipped into ****** e and slotted the ball home – just one of Schwarz's five goals. While our team squandered several clear-cut chances, last year's finalists ultimately capitalised on their superior footballing abilities in the final stages of the match, scoring almost by the minute. With a 15-1 win, we put our 2026/27 cup opener behind us.
We put in a good performance, and the girls were focused. Some players who haven't started much recently got to play, but they all performed well and were on top form for the full 90 minutes. The girls always wanted to attack and go for the next goal – that's not something to take for granted, and it was a well-deserved win!

Amanda Anisimova, runner-up at the 2025 US Open, fell Saturday in the third round to Anastasia Potapova, who capitalized on a flood of unforced errors from the American.
Potapova, seeded 24th, topped the 10th-seeded Anisimova 6-2, 7-5.
Anisimova enjoyed a sterling 2025, also reaching the final of Wimbledon and winning two prestigious tour events, but she has struggled to approach her level from last year.
Potapova took full advantage of 46 unforced errors from Anisimova, who had already been pushed hard in her second-round win over another Austrian, Lilli Tagger.

Just before the transfer window closed, Bayern Munich academy players Luis Schäfer and Nana Gibson Adu moved on to pastures anew.
Bayern's official website confirmed Schäfer's departure. The center back came off of a fairly good 2025/26 season, in which he captained the U-19s and subsequently moved up to the U-23s. Filip Pavic's rising star, however, saw him relegated to a distant bench option for the Bavarians' second team and, after starting in the first match of the season, he has not gotten a minute in the 4 games since. One can presume he left for partner club SpVgg Unterhaching to get more game time, which puts an end to his 9 years at the FC Bayern Campus. Good luck in your future endeavors, Schäfer!

He was seen as a huge talent and had already played in the 3. Liga at the tender age of 16. Unfortunately, Gibson Adu committed several disciplinary infractions and never really developed at Bayern. In 2025, a loan to Austrian club SCR Altach went through on deadline day but he had to return just two weeks later after he was denied a playing permit by UEFA. Bayern wanted nothing more to do with him, though, and banished him out on loan back to Unterhaching as soon as November that same year.

On the two-month anniversary of Juventus Women hiring Isaac Guerrero as their new head coach, the Spanish tactician got his new-look squad past the final hurdle necessary to see them qualify for the Women's Champions League league phase once again.
For some, that was going to be quite the task with so much turnover this summer and Guerrero having little time to get to work with his new team before the qualification process got underway last month.
But in front of the hometown crowd — and some very notable front office member from both the men's and women's sporting area — in Biella on Wednesday night, Guerrero's Bianconere got the result they needed, a 1-1 draw, against Austrian side St. Pölten to qualify for the UWCL league phase. Portuguese midfielder Tatiana Pinto scored Juventus Women's lone goal of the night five minutes before halftime, but it was the 3-0 victory last week in Austria that allowed the Bianconere to see out the game and claim the 4-1 advantage on aggregate in the final round of the qualification path.
And with it came a ticket into the 16-team league phase — which is in effect for a second season after they made the switch to replicate the men's setup at the beginning of last season's competition.
Juve got through the four-team mini tournament last month. They then got a much less complicated draw against St. Pölten as compared to two years ago when they had to go through a Paris Saint-Germain side that was one of the last teams standing the season prior to make the group stage.

Fulham have added another defensive option with David Affengruber arriving from Elche CF on a four-year contract.

Derby County have re-signed Brighton defender Eiran Cashin and brought in Union Saint-Gilloise forward Mohammed Fuseini on loan deals.
Cashin, 24, started his career at Pride Park, helping the club win promotion back to the Championship in 2024.
He made 144 appearances for the club before departing for Brighton in January 2025 but has featured just twice for Fabian Hurzeler's side and spent last season on loan at Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers.

Former Celtic midfielder Scott Allan has praised the way Martin O'Neill's side responded to their ignominious Champions League exit by beating Falkirk in the Scottish Premiership.
And Allan believes Celtic have unearthed a superstar in forward Camilo Duran, who got both goals in the 2-1 win over the Bairns.
Austrian champions LASK fought back from four goals down on aggregate as Celtic collapsed on Tuesday - but the chastened Premiership champions saw off Falkirk as they returned to the domestic agenda.
"It really was the manner in how they gave up a 4-0 lead to LASK - genuine disbelief at how that second half panned out for Celtic," Allan said on the Scottish Football podcast.
"But ultimately you have to get your chest out. Fans will still have a sour taste in their mouth about how the game went against LASK and all you can do is try and improve."

Bayern Munich's connection to Red&Gold Football, as co-founders alongside Los Angelese FC, has seen the club expand its' youth movement. Players from Red&Gold Football partner clubs train and trial in Munich, with Bara Sapoko Ndiaye one of many to trial and the first to succeed in earning a move to Bayern, while acquired players move between these clubs, such as when Armindo Sieb left for LAFC.
One of the benefits most apparent to the average fan Bayern enjoyed was the ability to loan players out to Grasshopper Zürich. The Swiss Super League team was never part Red&Gold Football, but LAFC were majority stakeholders at the club and that connection allowed Bayern to send loan players to Switzerland to get their feet wet in professional football. Grayson Dettoni, Nestory Irankunda, Jonathan Asp Jensen and Lovro Zvonarek all had stints in Zürich.
But that will no longer happen. As of the end of June 2026, LAFC sold their majority stake in Grasshopper Zürich. As reported by Tzmuenchen (and captured by iMiaSanMia) this ends their status as potential loan destination for Bayern talents:

O'Neill's side will feature in the Europa League after Tuesday's 5-1 defeat by LASK after extra time, with the Austrian side winning the Champions League play-off 5-4 on aggregate.

On Saturday, our ADMIRAL Women's Bundesliga away tour takes us to face another set of last season's championship group opponents. Following matches against SK Sturm Graz and FK Austria Vienna, we now take on the perennial Austrian champions. Our team faces SKN St. Pölten at 14:00 CEST, with the match broadcast live on ORF Sport+.
As is well known, our previous encounters with the other top teams did not go as hoped. After a perfect start to the season taking maximum points from two games - our Salzburg side was unable to secure further results against these tough opponents. Now, a new opportunity arises - albeit against a team that boasts a flawless league record under their coach Laurent Fassotte and was in action on the European stage just yesterday. Celtic boss Martin O'Neill has admitted blame following his side's capitulation away to LASK Linz that sees the Scottish side drop down from the Champions League to the Europa League.
After a 3-0 win at Celtic Park and taking a 21st minute lead in Linz, the Bhoys looked on course to return to Europe's premier competition. However, five unanswered goals from LASK meant that it was instead the Austrian side who booked their place in the Champions League.
"I'm responsible for this one," O'Neill said after the game in which they conceded 40 shots over 120+ minutes.
"Without a doubt. Naturally it took me a long time to get over the UEFA Cup final in 2003 but this was majorly disappointing.
"In the context of things, one was a final which it would have been terrific to win, this was a qualifying game which we should have been able to get through.

Martin O'Neill's side won last week's first leg 3-0 at Parkhead thanks to some sparkling attacking play, although the Austrian champions did also have several chances.
Sheridan says Celtic must adopt a similar gameplan in Austria on Tuesday if they are to reach the competition proper and has backed a summer signing to make his mark in the game.
"It's almost like getting flashbacks of the summer with Scotland - going into games thinking we can maybe lose 1-0 or 2-0 and go through," Sheridan said on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast. "It doesn't work.

To make this happen, he is changing his setup. He is moving away from the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Max. He previously used an 8.5-degree head set at 9.1 degrees. This change comes after a tough year off the tee. Straka ranks 99th in strokes gained from the tee this season. It is his first time losing ground in this category with the Ai Smoke driver in his bag. Now, he is picking up the Srixon ZXi RKT driver. This move is significant for Srixon because Straka rarely alters his gear. The ZXi RKT driver is a relatively new release. Srixon staffer Ryan Fox used it to win the Open Championship recently. The Columbian goalscorer spoke at his mainstream media conference on Wednesday night after Celtic's hugely impressive 3-0 win over Austrian Champions LASK and refused to accept that anything has been settled just yet despite the hoops taking that advantage into the decisive second leg.
"There are 90 minutes left," Camilo said. "We haven't won or achieved anything yet. I'm just happy for the work the team has done. Now we need to rest and continue working with humility.
"I know that the next game is waiting for us. We have to do our best over there, the same as we did on Wednesday night. With God's help, we'll get through this phase, which is what we obviously all want."

It's now official: Max Verstappen will remain with Red Bull Racing until 2030.
Four-time world champion Verstappen has reaffirmed his commitment to the Austrian team. As was the case last season, the Dutchman was once again linked with several of Red Bull Racing's rivals before committing to the team for the upcoming Formula 1 campaign.
Previously, Verstappen was linked with both Toto Wolff's Mercedes team and Zak Brown's McLaren. However, there was no place for him at either team, with Mercedes team boss and McLaren CEO confirming they will continue with their current driver line-ups in the 2027 season.

Could Oliver Glasner be a future Bayern Munich manager? Former Premier League player and coach Iain Dowie certainly understands why the Austrian has been linked with the club.
Dowie, who scouts for Crystal Palace, says he has seen Glasner's work firsthand and was struck by the manager's intensity and relentless approach.
"I was a little surprised to see Oliver Glasner go from Crystal Palace to Nottingham Forest. I scout for Palace, so I've spent time at the training ground and observed his work firsthand. Whether it's during internal games, U21 matches, or warm-up sessions, you can really feel the intensity he brings. I have to say, I haven't come across many managers with that level of intensity, he is truly relentless," Dowie told BettingLounge. "I understand his move, though I do wonder if he jumped a bit too quickly. Listen, Forest are a massive club, I grew up in the Brian Clough era, so I know they're huge. But I can see why he's being linked to Bayern Munich, given his Austrian background and his success in Germany. Would he be a good match for Bayern? Absolutely. He's proven at Palace that he wins trophies and gets the best out of people. He's relentless, it's his way or the highway, and there's nothing wrong with that. He has a character that wants things done quickly, and that's what has driven this big move to Nottingham Forest for a significant fee.
"It will be very interesting to see how the Palace fans react when he returns. I think the response will be largely positive because of what he achieved at the club, but had he moved abroad, that probably would have been received much better."
The Glasner-to-Bayern Munich links are intriguing. His Austrian roots, Bundesliga experience, Champions League pedigree, and ability to get the best out of his players would certainly make him an interesting candidate if Bayern Munich ever need a new manager.

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Benfica to sign Amar Dedic, per Sky Sports.
The deal is said to be worth £29.5 million, and Dedic is set to fly to the Tyneside club to undergo his medical on Monday.
The 23-year-old will likely be unveiled as a Newcastle player in time for their Premier League opener against Liverpool next Sunday.
New manager Matthias Jaissle knows Dedic well, having previously worked with him at Red Bull Salzburg.
The right-back made 95 senior appearances for the Austrian side before joining Benfica last summer.
