The NFL's 53-man roster deadline is less than 24 hours away and several teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, have already started making moves. Thus far, the Falcons have waived seven players, cut three others and placed one on the reserve/injured list.
Former Falcons defensive lineman Zion Logue also lost his job on Saturday afternoon. The Buffalo Bills released the former Georgia Bulldogs standout in their first wave of roster cuts.
The 25-year-old was selected by Atlanta in the sixth-round of the 2024 NFL Draft but failed to make the 53-man roster out of training camp. After landing on the Falcons' practice squad, Logue was poached by the Bills early in the 2024 season.
Logue appeared in five games for the Bills over the last two seasons. The 6-foot-6, 325-pound defensive tackle should land on a practice squad at the very least. Perhaps Atlanta will take another look at the former Bulldog.

God bless the 6% of you who said the playoffs were already within reach. As I talked about on Sunday's Royals Rundown Podcast, when I was a kid I would believe the Royals had a shot right up until they were officially eliminated. That 30-game winning streak was coming; I was just sure of it!
After writing out all the winning percentages involved, I did end up voting with the plurality of 37% on this one. I wanted the Royals to finish out August with a winning streak. to believe it was a possibility. They didn't manage it, losing one of the games in Toronto with three in Cleveland left to go before the month is over. That said, if they can sweep in Cleveland (a big if with Tanner Bibee, Foster Griffin, and Parker Messick scheduled to pitch this weekend), maybe I'll still give in to some hopium for a September where they'd need to go 18-6 to reach .500.
The second place selection at 31% was midway through September and, honestly, if they had managed that, or if they can get there with only the one loss, I think the Royals playoff odds would rocket up from the current 0.1% to something like 50% at least. That's a very reasonable time to believe, but man, I can't imagine living my life where I had to see my favorite sports team go that far before I was able to dream a little about them. And those 18% of you who think the Royals need to win every remaining game – which would have gotten them to 88 wins, now 87 – make me truly sad.

A very businesslike win for the Guardians tonight as they beat the Angels 5-2.
The Guardians scored early to give Parker Messick a small lead to work with, which has been rare of late for Cleveland's best pitcher and Cy Young/Rookie of the Year candidate.
Nathaniel "Knows What to Do With RISP" Lowe got a sacrifice fly in the third after a Kwan walk, Jose single and Jo Adell walk. Rocchio had flied out sharply to begin the inning and Angel Genao was putting up an excellent AB when Adell was caught in a rundown that ended with Jose getting tagged out at third.
Messick's only troublesome inning was the fourth where a single from Zach Neto and single from Mike Trout allowed a Moises Ballesteros single to drive in the Angels' only run to tie the game at 1. I am so impressed with how Messick never gets frustrated. He finds his center and gets himself out of trouble over and over.
Another Guardians newcomer got a hit with RISP when Adell got an RBI hit in the fifth to make it 2-1 Guardians.

The highly anticipated Little League World Series opener for Hamilton's West Side will have to wait a bit longer.
Due to inclement weather on-site in Williamsport, Pa., Little League has postponed all of Thursday's games to Friday, Aug. 21. West Side, representing Ohio and the Great Lakes region, was originally scheduled to play the Mountain-region champs Nevada at 2 p.m.
West Side is now slated for a 9 a.m. first pitch against Nevada on Friday. With the change in schedule, ESPN will no longer be broadcasting the game.

CBS has gotten out of the NFL Insider business.
Via Drew Lerner of Awful Announcing, CBS won't be hiring an insider to replace Jonathan Jones, who recently left for a non-insider (in name) role with The Athletic.
It's no surprise. Last year, CBS decided to dump the insider segments from The NFL Today. Jones performed other roles for CBS Sports unrelated to the weekly Sunday rundown of news and notes.
As Lerner notes, the absence of Jones from the CBS pregame show was hardly noticed in 2025.
It's unclear why CBS made the move to not use Jones last year. One fair basis for speculation could be that not having an insider segment ensures that CBS will never be reporting anything that possibly would rankle The Shield. While potentially problematic items could be killed on a case-by-case basis, it wouldn't have taken much to get the word out that CBS, under new Skydance management, may have been putting the kibosh on anything the NFL may not have taken kindly to.

Yesterday our own Jeremy Nielsen described the Yankee offense no-showing like they were itching to just get on the plane and start their road trip already. Tonight felt like the bats somehow never left the tarmac, because aside from Trent Grisham poking one out of the stands there just wasn't anything to show for their at-bats. The Yankees wasted another solid pitching performance and allowed a starter on the other side that has been struggling to cut right through them in a 3-1 loss to Toronto.
Shane Bieber was on the mound for the Blue Jays, and he entered this game with a gaudy 5.48 ERA — naturally, that was of little consequence to this lineup. Bieber sat down the Yankees in order in the first inning, picking up strikeouts from Grisham and Spencer Jones, and worked around a one-out Jazz Chisholm Jr. single in the second. The third brought the first real instance of a pulse, Austin Wells leading off with a walk before getting forced out at second. Grisham stepped up and provided a single that should've made it a rally, but George Lombard Jr. was caught in the middle of trying to go for third and didn't get back to second in time, instead winding up in a rundown. A Ben Rice groundout ended the disappointing frame.

The fourth brought more opportunities to squander, as Jones led off with a double and advanced to third on a flyout from Luis García Jr. (Jones was briefly called out on the tag up, but a challenge overturned that call as he was clearly never tagged despite the throw beating him). Still, two more fly outs were all the Yankees managed, and the first one was too shallow for Jones to test with another tag up. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Yankees finally caught a break, Grisham crushing a middle-middle fastball out to right field to get them on the scoreboard.

Veronica Perasso revealed to her Instagram followers that her experience of getting numerous cosmetic treatments made her have some scar tissue, constant health concerns, and body image issues, which she is struggling with. Still, my face, my arms, and my legs were not in shape," she said.

Just 10 days after the Orioles dealt Dean Kremer to the Twins ahead of the trade deadline, the veteran starter turned in his best outing of the season — against his former teammates.
Facing the team that he had pitched for for parts of the past seven seasons, Kremer allowed just one hit and one run across seven innings, marking his longest outing of the season thus far.
That one hit wasn't hit hard — just 52.6 miles per hour off Jackson Holliday's bat — and didn't travel far. It came in the fourth inning and shortly after, Holliday broke for second, getting himself caught in a rundown long enough to let shortstop Gunnar Henderson, who had walked earlier in the inning, score from third.
But that was all the Orioles could manage against Kremer, who struck out seven in his outing and allowed very little hard contact in his first start as a Twin at Target Field.

I've never seen a documentary about Girl Scout Cookies before, so I went into Alysa Nahmias's "Cookie Queens" figuring that it might include, among other things, a tantalizing history of this beloved American institution — a rundown of the nine current varieties of Girl Scout Cookie (my favorite: Samoas, obvi! With Tagalongs a close second), a survey of some of the dozens of discontinued flavors (Rasberry Rallies, we hardly knew ye), and — more to the point — a look at how Girl Scout Cookies came to be, how the Girl Scout Cookie season developed into a wholesome Middle American pastime, and what Girl Scout Cookies have meant, through the decades, to those of us who hungrily consume them and to all the girls who've devoted themselves to selling boxes of them.
But no! "Cookie Queens" includes none of that stuff. The movie unfolds entirely in the present and never gives you even a fleeting sense of the past, of how Girl Scout Cookies rose in prominence to become the phenomenon they are today. (In case you're wondering, they were launched in World War I to raise money for U.S. soldiers.) The opening credits, set to the Julie Ruin's "Cookie Road," which sounds like a great lost track from the B-52's, play over black-and-white photographs and old film footage of Girl Scouts from bygone eras. But once the credits are over, the movie gets down to its single-minded theme and obsession: how Girl Scout Cookies, once a quaint piece of Americana, have lurched into their late-capitalist phase, with the girls who sell them vying to become champions by fashioning themselves into 12-year-old entrepreneurial go-getters.

Big Ten Media Days wrapped up last week and with the annual trek to Chicago came the media projections for each and every team in the conference.
We noted in our rundown last week that Iowa had three pre-season All-Big Ten nominees in offensive linemen Kade Pieper and Trevor Lauck, as well as defensive back Zach Lutmer, who also garnered votes for defensive player of the year in the conference. They were joined by TE DJ Vonnahme, who earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.

Two weeks after what was considered a successful World Cup, FIFA is drawing the wrong kind of headlines.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino's proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup through private investment is dead. In a statement late Friday, Infantino said he "listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place."
"Moving forward, my intent is to bring all interested parties back together in the coming days and weeks in the spirit of shared interest in our game, and with the objective to continue growing football everywhere, particularly in those countries that mostly need our support," Infantino added in his statement.

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers will report to Saint Vincent College for training camp. It will be the 59th year the Steelers have held camp at Latrobe, missing only during COVID. We already gave you the rundown of five storylines to watch and now we offer up four more storylines we have to keep an eye on.
Despite the addition of veteran Michael Pittman Jr., the Steelers still need to see a significant ***** p in production from the team's slot receiver. This will come down to rookie Germie Bernard and veteran Roman Wilson. We want to see the two of them duke it out in practice reps and in the preseason and see if the rookie can hold off the veteran with something to prove.
We had hoped the Steelers and Porter would have already agreed to terms on a contract extension but unless they announce something on Monday, we expect Porter Jr. to "hold in" at training camp until the two sides agree, even if it means the Steelers have to restructure some contracts to get it done.
We know that defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has said he plans to move Jalen Ramsey back to a slot cornerback, hybrid linebacker in his defense but we want to see if the lack of depth at safety shows itself and forces him back to safety again in 2026.
There's no doubt offensive tackle Broderick Jones will start training camp on the PUP list and we wonder if he will be available at all, but there is speculation that defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day will also be on the PUP when training camp kicks off, which shuffles the defensive line rotation.

It's not too difficult to figure out why Novo Nordisk (NYSE: NVO) shares are down so much from their 2024 peak. The GLP-1 weight-loss drug race that it helped start has since turned incredibly competitive, so much so that Novo's now losing market share to rival Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) (and others) within a business it largely built, forcing price cuts. Investors are also concerned about the limited expansion of Wegovy's label in this environment.

Unlike the rookie QB, Pickens was an immediate contributor in a trio with Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool. Pittsburgh traded Claypool away in November, leaving Johnson and Pickens as the clear starting duo.
For three years, Pickens' talent was clear but so were issues with his maturity and relationship with the Steelers. The team struggled to find its next QB, going through the poo-poo platter of Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph before bringing in Russell Wilson in 2023. While Wilson helped bring some respectability back at QB, Pickens' status with the team was already breaking down. Criticism of his effort became public, and he went into his fourth year without a clear path forward in Pittsburgh.
As it turned out, the path led to Dallas. Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick were sent to the Cowboys for a 2026 third-rounder and Dallas' fifth-round pick in 2027. For the Steelers, it was a decent return on a former second-rounder who they clearly had no intention of re-signing after his rookie deal. For the Cowboys, it was an immediate upgrade at WR2 and a much-needed wingman for CeeDee Lamb, who'd been carrying too much of the receiving load since the departure of Amari Cooper and the decline of Michael Gallup.

On Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs unofficially opened training camp as quarterbacks, rookies and select veterans arrived at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph.
Head coach Andy Reid began his opening remarks with a rundown of the team's initial injury situation.
At the start of camp, injured players can be played on the Active/Physically-Unable-to-Perform list (PUP). This gives players time to work back to health before being activated to practice. Players remaining on the list at the end of camp can be kept on the Reserve/PUP list to start the season — but they are then ruled out for the first four games of the season.
Starting in Week 5, teams have five weeks to open a 21-day practice window to the return to the active roster before the players are moved to season-ending injured reserve.
Once a player practices in training camp, he is no longer eligible for the PUP list.
