Not everything went well for the Washington Commanders on Friday night.
Yes, the Commanders defeated the Dolphins 20-7 at Northwest Stadium. Yes, the Commanders were clearly the better team on the field during quarters two, three, and four. However, that first quarter wasn't a thing of beauty. That first quarter actually raised some eyebrows and questions for Commanders fans.
Good grief, the Dolphins put themselves in a hole to start the game when they held on the opening kickoff, so their possession began at their own seven-yard line. The Dolphins then drove 93 yards in 14 plays and seven minutes, putting the ball in the end zone. What was frustrating about the drive was that the Commanders had some players out there, like Johnny Newton, who weren't doing their jobs effectively.
Newton was drafted with the No. 36 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he really needs to step it up and justify his being selected as high as he was. The Dolphins, meanwhile, appeared to really push around Newton and the defensive linemen as a whole on that initial drive. On the drive, the Dolphins had runs of 5, 14, 5, 6, 7, 6, 3, 1, and 1 yard (touchdown).
Daron Payne is another defensive tackle who hasn't exactly set the NFL world on fire since the 2022 season. Payne is in the final year of his lucrative contract, and with Newton being as disappointing as he has been, Commanders GM Adam Peters may want to really overhaul the position next offseason.

Only Murders In The Building and Waverly Place star Selena Gomez is sounding fairly ******* off this week, denouncing a recent fraud lawsuit launched against her mental health wellness brand Wondermind. Per People, the lawsuit was aimed at Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and former Wondermind co-CEO Daniella Pierson, claiming the trio "falsely represented" the company's "infrastructure, leadership, and resources" while soliciting more than a million dollars in investments—which is a fancy way to say that there have been a lot of allegations that, while the company sold itself as being able to capitalize on Gomez's massive celebrity and social media following (something that's made her cosmetics company Rare Beauty a reportedly billion-dollar business), in actuality, it was being run almost entirely by Teefey, with very little involvement from her famous daughter.
All of this was laid out in a fairly brutal September 2025 article in The Cut, which talked to several anonymous former Wondermind employees about the not-especially-pleasant-sounding experience of working for Teefey, who the article portrayed as unwell, disorganized, and generally not up to the strain of running a company alone. (Pierson, founder of The Newsette—and the subject of her own takedown article in Forbes last year—exited Wondermind a year after its 2021 founding, reportedly after conflict with Teefey.) The lawsuit says investors got seriously worried about getting their money back when Forbes ran a report back in May 2025 that the company had failed to pay its employees; Gomez reportedly stepped in to cover the debts.
(Meanwhile, if you're wondering what Wondermind—which bills itself as "The World's First Mental Fitness Ecosystem—actually does or makes, the answer is: Not very much, as far as we can tell. The site has run a blog, which has only intermittently been updated in recent years, and ran two short-lived podcasts in the past. But plans for snack offerings, a docuseries about Venus Williams, an app, and film projects have all failed to materialize. Many of the staffers quoted in The Cut article noted that Teefey—whose biggest professional success was pretty objectively the period where she served as Gomez's manager in the early years of her career, before being fired by her daughter in 2014—was good at suggesting projects, but not at actually bringing them to fruition.)
Gomez, like we said, sounds pretty angry to be getting her name and brand dragged through the mud with all this. Per People, her legal team put out a statement this weekend, stating that "The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported 'fraud' or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally. We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her." Teefey and Pierson, both named as co-defendants, haven't made public statements as of yet.

Cardi B has access to some of the most expensive designers in the world. However, the fashion item creating the biggest buzz around her right now is not a luxury handbag or a custom-made gown; it is a pair of Old Navy jeans that many shoppers can actually afford.
The rapper's latest fashion moment has turned everyday denim into a viral conversation after she became the face of Old Navy's "Most Wanted Denim" campaign, helping push the brand's jeans into the spotlight.
The unexpected part is not that Cardi B can make clothes popular. Her influence in music, beauty, and fashion has been proven for years.
The surprising part is the product itself.
Instead of promoting a designer item costing hundreds or thousands of dollars, Cardi helped create excitement around accessible denim, with some styles selling quickly after the campaign launch.

e.l.f. Beauty (NYSE:ELF) reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 results on August 5, and the headline number is hard to ignore. Net sales grew 36% year-over-year, marking the company's 30th consecutive quarter of net sales growth, a streak stretching back more than seven years. Management says only 6 of 516 public consumer companies tracked have matched that pace while averaging at least 20% quarterly growth. On the back of it, e.l.f. raised its full-year outlook to 18% to 20% net sales growth, up from 12% to 14% previously.
Of roughly 1,800 cosmetics and skin care brands Nielsen tracks, only 14 have topped $200 million in retail sales, and e.l.f. now owns four of them. Rhode, the Hailey Bieber brand, is the standout. It added about $160 million in net sales this quarter and posted $27 million in single-day sales on rhodeskin.com during its summer launch, pulling in 90,000 new customers while still drawing over 70% of sales from repeat buyers. International sales grew 61%, well ahead of the 29% domestic pace, as e.l.f. expands into Boots in the UK, Sephora in Brazil, and Naturium into Canada and Mexico this fall.
Rhode itself launches with Sephora across 19 European countries in September. The company is also pushing into haircare, with its June launch of e.l.f. Hair drew nearly half its buyers from outside the existing e.l.f. customer base, a sign the newer categories are expanding the audience rather than just cross-selling it.
Strip away Rhode and the core e.l.f. business told a different story this quarter. Organic net sales declined by a high single-digit percentage, and unit volumes fell about 3 percentage points even as pricing and mix added 39 points to overall growth. Management ran a pricing test this spring and ultimately cut prices on about 10% of e.l.f. SKUs to try to win back units, an acknowledgment that value positioning needed adjusting. Profitability also got a boost that will not repeat. Q1 gross margin jumped roughly 1,400 basis points to 83%, but over 1,050 of those basis points came from $50 million in IEEPA tariff refunds flowing through cost of goods. Adjusted EBITDA rose 93% to $168 million, yet excluding the refund, growth was 36%.
Management plans to reinvest the entire refund through lower prices and marketing, which it expects to be a net zero benefit to full-year EBITDA. SG&A as a share of sales also climbed to 54% from 50% a year earlier, and the company still owes the first payment on Rhode's earnout later this year given how far the brand has outperformed.

Daniel Cormier wants Ali Abdelaziz to pump the brakes on PFL champion Usman Nurmagomedov's chances against top UFC lightweights.
Nurmagomedov (22-0) is a free agent after knocking out Archie Colgan in the first-round of the PFL New York main event earlier this month. If Nurmagomedov does end up signing with the UFC, his manager, Abdelaziz, claimed on the "Pound 4 Pound" podcast that he would have his way with Ilia Topuria, Paddy Pimblett, Charles Oliveira, and Max Holloway – which Cormier thinks is an absurd statement to make.
"I get it, that's your guy, you're a promoter, but you're speaking about the absolute best guys in the world," Cormier said on his YouTube channel. "Now, to have faith and think Usman Nurmagomedov can fight these guys, absolutely. ... I think Usman Nurmagomedov is special. I think Usman Nurmagomedov, if he comes to the UFC, immediately becomes one of the top contenders in the organization. I have seen this young man train. I have seen him work. I know that he has championship-level experience."
While Nurmagomedov got some of that championship-level experience through two tough outings against Paul Hughes, Cormier said the UFC would be a step up in competition.
"As good as the Irish kid is, the UFC guys are better," Cormier said. "So you would imagine that these fights would be ultra competitive, but that's the beauty in having a guy separate himself from the world in a different organization. That's the beauty because while what Ali says is very out there, when he looks at that group of fighters, he would expect that because that's all they've really done. Umar has done very well. Khabib dominated; Islam has dominated.

Brown Advisory, an investment management company, released its "Brown Advisory Global Leaders Strategy" for the second quarter of 2026 investor letter. A copy of the letter can be downloaded here. Brown Advisory's Global Leaders Strategy delivered a net return of 4.6% in the second quarter of 2026, underperforming its benchmark, the MSCI ACWI Net Index, which returned 14.9%. The relative weakness was driven mainly by underexposure to semiconductors and technology hardware, while software, cloud services, and financial holdings also weighed on performance. The strategy benefited from holdings in areas tied to AI infrastructure, with semiconductor exposure and AI-related investments gaining from strong demand. Looking ahead, Brown Advisory sees an attractive environment for active stock-picking, with its ready-to-buy list at its highest level since the COVID-19 period and an estimated 12%-13% average five-year base-case IRR, while maintaining a focus on quality, valuation discipline, and long-term cash-flow generation. In addition, please check the Fund's top five holdings to know its best picks in 2026.
In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, Brown Advisory Global Leaders Strategy Fund highlighted stocks like Unilever PLC (NYSE:UL). Unilever PLC (NYSE:UL) is a global consumer goods company offering a broad portfolio of personal care, home care, beauty, and food products. The one-month return of Unilever PLC (NYSE:UL) was 2.41% while its shares traded between $54.75 and $74.98 over the last 52 weeks. On August 7, 2026, Unilever PLC (NYSE:UL) stock closed at approximately $63.13 per share, with a market capitalization of about $135.64 billion.
Brown Advisory Global Leaders Strategy Fund stated the following regarding Unilever PLC (NYSE:UL) in its Q2 2026 investor letter:
We exited our investment in Unilever PLC (NYSE:UL) in May. Unilever has been a day-one investment in the Strategy, with a holding period of 11 years. Over that time, while compounding at mid-single digits and contributing positively to the strategy's absolute returns, it fell behind our double-digit annualized return target. Unilever continued: We have been patient with the investment and the turnaround strategy of Unilever's new management team. However, despite the turnaround progressing successfully and in line with our thesis—with Unilever growing revenues at mid-single digits and thereby leading its consumer peers over the last two years—we have failed to see the levels of returns and compounding we target in the Strategy. While valuation looks attractive—and has for a long time—we are ultimately exiting due to what we **** s as a less attractive industry, as the moats have narrowed over time despite good execution by management. The company has started to execute the new strategy very well. Volume growth recovered after 2022 to low single digits, supported by 1–3% price growth, with overall organic growth in the mid-single digits. This was in line with our expectations.

Every era has its beauty standards, each carrying through to the next generations as either kitsch or cool. The '80s have received their fair share of condemnation and celebration as either or, but there's a unique glamour that '80s soap opera divas, such as Morgan Fairchild, have translated to the decades since.
Although the Texas native got her start on television back in the '70s with hit series such as "Search for Tomorrow," "Happy Days," and "Mork & Mindy," the '80s brought about a fresh new decade of big opportunities (and even bigger hair). Alongside films such as "The Seduction" and "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," Fairchild also continued her career on TV with series like "Flamingo Road" and "Paper Dolls." However, some of her most iconic roles come from her nearly 30-year run on "General Hospital," as well as her stint as Chandler Bing's mom in "Friends." Still acting into her 70s, Fairchild also started her own podcast, "2 B****es From Texas," alongside sister Cathryn Hartt. You can still see traces of her signature '80s glam in her makeup, outfits, and hair today, having refined her taste and tweaked it to the times.
However, while Fairchild was undoubtedly one of the most fashionable actresses of the '80s, there were some looks that were a clear trial and error. Fashion taste fluctuates as our lives do, and as the "Shattered Illusions" star can attest through her own tragedies in life, not every moment can be a hit. Although incredibly rare, here are a few fashion flops from her heyday.

"Landman" star Ali Larter's storybook romance proves that when you know, you know – but she also knows when it's time to call it quits with the heavy makeup. Larter filmed the Paramount+ series in Fort Worth, Texas, meaning long hours in high heat and humidity, where the last thing on anyone's mind is perfecting a full beat. While makeup artists relied on heavy powders to keep the actors' makeup set under the harsh lighting, the star admitted she would push back against her makeup artist in favor of a glowier look. "I don't like powder, so it's usually my makeup artist fighting to put powder on me, and I'm saying no—I just would prefer to look shiny," she told NewBeauty in July 2026.
Larter's preference for a more lived-in complexion also aligns with the growing trend of choosing a glowy, skin-like perfection over an overly matte complexion – a beauty trend celebrity makeup artists call outdated in 2026. In lieu of consistent touch-ups, the actor's team opted for blotting papers to reduce some of the oils that accumulate throughout filming. "For longer days, if I am really sweaty — usually we're sweaty because it's Texas — they do a lot of blotting papers," she explained to the outlet. The simple swap kept excess oil at bay without sacrificing the fresh complexion and comfort she preferred.

Part of Ali Larter's complete transformation came from her commitment to skincare. During the demanding production schedule for "Landman," the actor used her lunch break to refresh her skin and her mindset before going back to filming. During the cast's 30-minute lunch break, she would remove her under-eye makeup to apply eye masks and meditate for 20 minutes before stepping back in front of the camera.

The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It's in the name! Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Ezek, Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Kung_Fu_Zizou
Pre-Season was swallowed up by the Club World Cup last summer. This summer it has been disrupted by the World Cup. The desire to continuously invent football matches for eyeballs and revenue will always risk the quality of the game. The players who did not go to the World Cup or those who exited early will all have a decent pre-season. The players who went deep into the tournament not only have a shortened pre-season but will be back on international duty before long. The argument that the players are rich is one I will always find utterly unconvincing. What is noticeable is the decline in the quality of football and footballers in general. Managers desperately trying to reduce the game to automatisms in order to cover-up the dearth of unique individual quality in the game. Stats creating an Americanisation of the beautiful game. I do not know Maradona, Zidane and R9's stats. They're practically irrelevant to the beauty of the game. That aspect of the game is increasingly greyed out and becoming near impossible to access. I digress.. This is a mixed pre-season for Mourinho. He has had a chance to take a look at some of the youngsters and also the likes of Camavinga, Trent, Fede and Arda Guler. What he has not had the chance to do it have a look at a potential starting XI for the season with all his best players available. There are two friendlies remaining before La Liga kicks off for the 2026/27 season and Mourinho will still be intuiting his best XI for the season by then. The names are easy but the balance.. well, that's an entirely different matter altogether.
A true baller..Turkish Delight? The kid is awesome and has surpassed the expectations of many by merely still being at the club given every challenge he has faced every single season since his arrival. Arda Güler is a unique profile in the Real Madrid squad. He is a purely technical player while also having tactical awareness to make up for his physical short-comings.
Arda's story is one of perseverance. It is difficult enough to make it at Real Madrid without major obstacles but Arda has had to overcome injuries and lack of trust as well as rife competition in the squad. He has seemingly come out the other side, looking increasingly like the fabulous footballer we imagined upon his arrival in 2024. Mourinho will have to find a way to use Arda without upsetting the proverbial apple cart.
Thiago was seemingly in the window shop until apparently Jose Mourinho insisted that he remain at the club.

Growing up in the spotlight doesn't always guarantee lifelong success, but for a select group of former child stars, early fame became the foundation for extraordinary wealth.
From billion-dollar beauty brands to cryptocurrency empires and sports franchises, these celebrities transformed childhood careers into multimillion-dollar — and in some cases billionaire — business empires.
Here's a look at some of the richest former child stars today.
Long before she became one of the world's biggest pop stars and entrepreneurs, Selena Gomez was winning over audiences on Barney & Friends before landing her breakout Disney Channel role on Wizards of Waverly Place.
Today, much of her fortune comes from Rare Beauty, the cosmetics brand she launched in 2020. While Bloomberg previously estimated her wealth at more than $1 billion, Forbes now values her net worth at around $700 million, making her one of the richest entertainers in Hollywood. Rare Beauty remains the largest contributor to her fortune, alongside earnings from music, acting, endorsements and Only Murders in the Building.

The '60s were defined by one of the world's largest cultural shifts. Mod fashion popularized unique silhouettes, bold haircuts, and bright clothing, while consumers started to experiment with their appearances more than ever before. As the vibrant Mod movement made room for endless beauty experimentation, a new generation of fashion icons emerged, and models were able to redefine the industry.
While some celebrity outfits from the '60s defined the era's style, fashion models became just as influential. Models even started to influence the music scene, not only through their on-again, off-again relationships with musicians, but also through their fashion choices, which changed the way singers dressed. The '60s were an exciting time for the beauty realm, and it was a golden age of the fashion model. As models became celebrities in their own right, they paved the way for the rise of the supermodel.
Decades later, many of the era's most legendary models are unrecognizable. While some retired from modeling after the '60s, pursuing careers in film or design instead, others stepped away from the spotlight altogether. Looking at side-by-side photos of these legendary '60s models highlights just how much they've changed, but they still look amazing.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher said he doesn't view it as a battle between Andrei Iosivas and Colbie Young for the No. 3 wide receiver position.
In his mind, there's Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and then everyone else competing for roles behind them.
Iosivas has been the clear No. 3 the past couple of years, though, and is working to retain his share of those snaps. For the second time in three years, the Bengals drafted a wide receiver that could take a piece of that pie.
Young, a lengthy fourth-round draft pick this year out of Georgia, has been drawing a lot of attention with splash plays in training camp so far. While mainly playing with the second-team offense, he's also gotten reps with Joe Burrow and the first-team offense and is taking advantage of every opportunity to show what he could bring.
"There's a handful of instances where they've done some really impressive things, and then there's another handful of instances where we got to finish, and that's the beauty of getting to come out here every day," Pitcher said. "And at the end of the day, the best players will play and the guys that we feel like give us the best chance to win in any given week, so a long way left before we have to make any decisions."

E.l.f. Beauty (NYSE: ELF) stock rose 12% in July, according to data provided by S&P Global Market Intelligence. The mass cosmetics giant is still enjoying renewed market confidence as it laps last year's negative tariff impact and continues to demonstrate strength.
E.l.f. has defined itself by its social mission and social media presence as well as its low prices. It stands out from the traditional leaders in mass cosmetics, and it continues to grow at a rapid pace as the model resonates with shoppers of all ages.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
It faced a major challenge last year when higher tariffs were imposed on goods produced in China, and it raised some of its prices to counteract the increases. That led to an expanded gross margin in the 2026 fiscal fourth quarter (ended March 31) to 73% despite some continual tariff impact.
E.l.f. is also facing its challenges head-on by expanding. It made a major move last year when it acquired model Hailey Bieber's Rhode cosmetics, its first foray into luxury cosmetics. The line has been massively popular, and it was cosmetic retailer Sephora's largest-ever launch in the U.K. It's already generating for $113 million for e.l.f., and it has a long growth runway; it has only 20% international penetration but 74% international social followers.

The beauty of training camp is seeing all the players come back together, watching the practice clips on social media, and forming those opinions early before the season begins. It also allows fans and media members alike to go through teams' schedules and make predictions on how their season will go. Well, one media outlet took the predictions to a whole other level.
Connor Orr, a member of The MMQB, part of Sports Illustrated, went through every NFL game and made predictions. That's right, all 272 games on the football calendar, the team went through and picked winners and losers. Let's see how Minnesota fared:

Pop star Tate McRae never hesitates to make a bold fashion statement on the red carpet. Attending the Variety Power of Young Hollywood event, the singer proved her status as a true modern style icon in a dress with a high slit and a back cutout. She chose an archival designer gown that blends classic 1990s minimalism with bold, sultry details. Her high-fashion appearance left fans and style lovers completely captivated throughout the night.
Tate McRae made a show-stopping arrival at the Variety Power of Young Hollywood event in a vintage black gown from the Versace Spring/Summer 1998 collection. The sleek strapless dress featured a fitted bodice that hugged her silhouette. The side design revealed a daring back cutout secured by a thin strap. It was adorned with a metallic blue hardware accent right at the waistline.
The floor-length column skirt featured a dangerously high thigh-slit that exposed her entire leg as she walked. Adding a surprise pop of color, the inside lining of the skirt was crafted from a bright turquoise-blue fabric. She complemented the vibrant lining by pairing the gown with matching blue strappy kitten-heel sandals.
Posing on the blue carpet, McRae looked over her shoulder toward the camera with an effortlessly confident expression. She flaunted the open-back cutouts and high slit while keeping her hands resting gracefully together. Her beauty look stayed sleek and polished, featuring her golden-brown hair tied up in a high, slicked-back ponytail. Her makeup remained warm and radiant with bronzed cheeks, soft mascara, and a glossy nude lip.
By bringing back a vintage piece from the late 1990s runway, the pop star demonstrated a masterclass in classic Italian glamor. The combination of a sleek black silhouette, unexpected pop of turquoise, and sharp cutouts created an unforgettable red-carpet moment. She proved that archival fashion always makes a powerful statement.

SAN DIEGO – Certain sounds are unmistakable signs that football season is back on The Mesa. The hoots and hollers while going through stretching. The cracking of helmets and crunching of pads. Kenny Loggins' "Danger Zone" blaring while the San Diego State Aztecs all raise their fists before practicing their two minute drill.
Hot off the heels of a 9-4 season where the Scarlet and Black finished in a four-way tie atop the Mountain West Conference and competed in a bowl game, there is an unmistakable energy surrounding the SDSU program as they embark on their first season as a member of the reconstituted eight team Pac-12.
"We're still trying to prove ourselves. The success of it all, the external noise, it's all well and good and I'm really proud of what we did, but this team this year has got to forge their own identity, so having day one energy, day one enthusiasm, it's Christmas morning…that's what it feels like this morning. I rolled over at 3 a.m. and I didn't need my alarm…that excitement is there," head coach Sean Lewis said.
"All the preseason accolades and where we're picked…none of that noise matters, and that's the beauty of camp, we're going to get to put that bubble up and live in our little bubble (and) tune all that other stuff out."
Picked to finish second and receiving one first place vote in the preseason Pac-12 media poll organized by the Denver Gazette, as well as receiving a pair of votes in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll — their first time receiving votes since 2022 — there are plenty of expectations, as well as questions to be answered before opening the season against Portland State on Sept. 5.
