NICEVILLE — Adron Robinson held it together for most of Thursday night's postgame huddle.
In the aftermath of a 41-14 win over visiting West Florida at Eagle Stadium, a venue where Robinson has celebrated countless playoff wins as an ***** istant coach and, of course, a state ***** le as a dynamic two-way player in 1988, the Eagle alumnus was too caught up in the missed tackles and blocking struggles of the first half to acknowledge his first win as head coach.
The Niceville standard, he said bluntly, was not met. And he expects better next week against visiting Mosley, who enters the Sept. 4 matchup at Eagle Stadium with a three-game win streak in the rivalry.
Week 1 rundown: Who were top performers from Week 1 of high school football season?
After he was done, legendary Niceville coach David Garner stepped in with the game ball. On a night when Deagan McCoy threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another, Malachi White had two highlight-reel touchdown receptions and the defense pitched a second-half shutout, the game ball had only one destination: Robinson's hands.
