As the 2026 college football season swiftly approaches, USA TODAY Sports revealed their full Big Ten stadium rankings for the 18-member conference.
While there is no true way to compose a ranking outside of a subjective nature, the Big Ten's expansive list of historic venues certainly makes its difficult to appease all fan bases.
One could lean into the capacity, historic significance, or even the overall fit on campus. That being said, Kinnick Stadium earns its proper due as one of the league's top venues.

Iowa's 27-8 mark at home since 2021 has help the Hawkeyes maintain their place among the top programs in the Big Ten. Debuting in 2017, "The Hawkeye Wave" will have players and fans turn at the end of the opening quarter and wave to the patients at Stead Family Children's Hospital.

As 2026 Big Ten media days open up on Tuesday from the Hilton Chicago, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz is scheduled for his annual preseason press conference during the three-day event's first day.
Iowa is coming off a highly successful 9-4 (6-3 Big Ten) season that culminated with an impressive 34-27 ReliaQuest Bowl victory over then-No. 12 Vanderbilt. Ferentz and the Hawkeyes are looking to build off that momentum as they enter the 28th season under Ferentz's watch.
The legendary Hawkeye head coach boasts a 209-128 record at Iowa. Ferentz will be joined at Big Ten media days by tight end Addison Ostrenga, linebacker Jayden Montgomery and defensive back Zach Lutmer.

Iowa women's basketball continued its quest to attract some of the nation's top talent to Iowa City. On Wednesday, the Hawkeyes offered four-star small forward and the top player out of Arizona in the 2028 class, Taylor Morris.
Morris is rated as the nation's No. 20 player per 2028 SportsCenter NEXT - Super 60 rankings. According to Prep Girls Hoops' 2028 Arizona rankings, Morris is the No. 1 prospect in the state.
A 6-foot-4 prospect, Morris has averaged 14.7 points per game during her 55 games played at the varsity level in two seasons at Mesa High School, per MaxPreps. Morris also plays for Mountain West Premier, which is the same Nike EYBL program as fellow Hawkeyes prospect Sienna Williams.
Along with Iowa, Morris already has a long list of offers from premier college basketball programs such as Texas Tech, BYU, Missouri, Alabama, Colorado, Florida, and Big Ten foes Oregon, Rutgers, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and UCLA.

Over the last few years, the Iowa women's basketball program has gone big-game hunting in recruiting circles. It looks like Jan Jensen is doing that again in the 2029 class.
The Hawkeyes landed Addie Deal in the 2025 class, McKenna Woliczko in the 2026 class, and Jada Seubert in the 2027 class. She's done a good job supplementing those big recruiting wins with other savvy additions in the transfer portal. Jensen continued Iowa's pursuit of the nation's very best on Wednesday, offering an elite 2029 guard.
Top-ranked 2029 prospect Kristen Winston took to social media to announce she's received an offer from Iowa. ****** istant coach LaSondra Barrett made the call to officially offer her.
Winston is the No. 1 player in the 2029 class, according to ESPN. The 6-foot guard from Birmingham, Ala., is already raking in the offers from top-tier programs. Miami, Notre Dame, Alabama, North Carolina, and Indiana have already offered Winston. That number will only continue to grow over the next few years. It's going to be a tough battle for the Hawkeyes to land her services.
Jensen has shown the ability to win over big-time recruits during her time in Iowa City. She'll need to do it again to bring Winston to Iowa.

A second Iowa home football game this fall has officially sold out.
Last week, the Hawkeyes' Week 2 matchup against Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium sold out. On Monday, the other in-state game on Iowa's schedule became a sellout.
The program took to social media to announce that its Week 3 game against Northern Iowa is now sold out.
This will be the first meeting between the two schools since 2018, when the Hawkeyes won 38-14. Iowa leads the all-time series, 7-0, but it hasn't always been blowouts. Most notably, in 2009, Kirk Ferentz's team had to block two field goals at the end of the game to escape with a 17-16 victory. Iowa is the favorite, but this won't be a cakewalk.
Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT on Sept. 19 for this game. Iowa-UNI will air on FS1. Limited tickets remain available for Iowa's other five home games this season.

Kirk Ferentz has been guiding Iowa football for nearly three decades.
Including his time as Iowa's offensive line coach, Ferentz is approaching four decades as a member of the Hawkeyes' coaching staff.
With his 209 overall wins, Ferentz is now the Big Ten's winningest coach. Ferentz's 133 Big Ten victories trail only Michigan’s Bo Schembechler (143) and Ohio State’s Woody Hayes (153).
The 70-year-old has led Iowa to Big Ten championships in 2002 and 2004. The Hawkeyes also captured Big Ten West Division **** les in 2015, 2021 and 2023 under Ferentz's watch.
Ferentz is admired as one of the models of consistency in college football. USA TODAY Sports shared its respect for coach Ferentz, ranking Ferentz as the nation's No. 16 head coach in its top 25 college football coaches heading into the 2026 season.

The wide receiver room is going to be thinner than expected for the Iowa football team in 2026.
News broke on Monday that second-year wide receiver Terrence Smith will not be with the program in the fall. The reasons for his departure are still unclear at the moment.
247Sports' Eliot Clough reported that Smith will no longer be on Iowa's roster this fall.
Smith was a three-star signee in Iowa's 2025 recruiting class. The 6-foot-3, 187-pound receiver was the 537th-best prospect, the No. 79 wide receiver and the No. 14 player in the state of Illinois in the 2025 class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
Smith was a big recruiting win for Kirk Ferentz and company. His departure leaves a hole for the Hawkeyes to fill this season.

Former Hawkeyes Mark Gronowski (football) and Taylor McCabe (women's basketball) have been selected as Iowa's 2026 Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners. The duo was chosen from Iowa's list of 2025-26 Big Ten Sportsmanship Award winners, which had a representative from each varsity sport.
Gronowski quarterbacked Iowa's offense in 2025, where the Naperville, Ill., native broke program records for most single-season rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (16) and rushing yards (545). He rushed for at least one score in 11 straight games, the longest streak ever by a Big Ten quarterback.
Gronowski also became the first Hawkeye to rush, throw, and receive a touchdown in the same game (at USC). The 6-foot-2 signal-caller recorded 2,286 yards of total offense (1,741 passing, 545 rushing).
In 2025, he was a National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society inductee, a CSC Academic All-District selection, and a ReliaQuest Bowl Game Most Valuable Player. He also earned the Roy Carver Most Valuable Player and Hayden Fry team awards on offense, and was named a Permanent Team Captain.
McCabe was a three-time letterwinner and two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree for Iowa women's basketball. The Fremont, Neb., native finished her career with 561 points, 183 rebounds, 113 ***** ists, and 38 steals, and is tied for the best 3-point shooting percentage (.407) in school history. Additionally, her 172 career 3-pointers rank 10th all-time in program history.

The Cubs signed left-hander Josh Fleming and **** igned him to Triple-A Iowa.

The Iowa Cubs condemned the St. Paul Saints (Twins), 21-7. Or maybe the Hawkeyes beat the Gopher by two touchdowns.
Josh Fleming made his Cubs debut and allowed two runs on four hits over four innings. Fleming walked two and struck out two.
Corbin Martin came on to pitch the fifth inning. The first batter he faced hit a solo home run, but he retired the next three in order. That was enough for the official scorer to award Martin the win.

The NBA kicked off Summer League action on Saturday afternoon with a bang. One game that featured four former Iowa basketball stars.
The Oklahoma City Thunder and the Memphis Grizzlies took the court in Salt Lake City to start their Summer League schedule. The Thunder's roster featured three former Hawkeyes in Bennett Stirtz, Payton Sandfort, and Josh Dix. The Grizzlies' roster had one in Brendan Hausen.
Memphis handled business in the game, winning 111-74. Even in the blowout, all four Hawks got a moment to shine and showcase what they can do. Here's a look at how they all performed in their 2026 Summer League debuts.

Stirtz played 24 minutes in his professional debut and put together a solid all-around performance. He knocked down a few threes, got his teammates involved, and dished out some dimes. It wasn't some supernatural game from Stirtz, but he showed off the aspects of his game that had the Thunder excited to draft him a few weeks ago. This was a solid Summer League debut for Stirtz.

Ben McCollum has knocked high school recruiting out of the park since arriving in Iowa City.
On a short turnaround, he put together a solid 2025 class. He upped the ante this past offseason, landing a pair of highly-touted players in Ethan Harris and Jaidyn ****** . And he’s already landed a big-time commitment from 2027 four-star forward Keller Daughtery.
While there’s still work to do on the 2027 class, McCollum is already starting to look into the 2028 crop. He and the Hawkeyes officially offered 2028 five-star center Bentley Lusakueno on Wednesday. Lusakueno took to social media to announce the offer.
Lusakueno is from College Park, Georgia, and Woodward Academy High School. The 6-foot-10 center is currently ranked as the seventh-best prospect in the 2028 class, according to 247Sports. He already holds nine Division I offers, with Florida State, Georgia, Miami, and Oregon all joining Iowa in the mix.
He's already garnered a lot of attention from USA Basketball as well. Lusakueno was a member of the 2025 USA Men’s U16 National Team and was recently named a finalist for the 2026 USA Men's U17 National Team. With two years of high school ball remaining, he's only going to rise in the recruiting rankings. Iowa getting in on him early could be the difference late in the process.

Despite Iowa women's basketball being among her offers list, 2027 four-star center prospect Addison Medeck announced her intention to stay home and has committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The 6-foot-3 native of Papillion, Neb., stars for Papillion-La Vista South High School, where she is rated as a four-star and ranks as the No. 43 overall prospect, as the No. 8 center, and as the No. 1 recruit in the state of Nebraska in the 2027 class, per 247Sports.
In addition to Iowa's offer on Oct. 18, 2025, Medeck held offers from programs such as Creighton, South Dakota, Marquette, South Dakota State, Northern Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Northwestern, and Nebraska.
According to MaxPreps, Medeck averaged 16.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.8 ******* ists, and 1.5 steals per game last year through 20 contests for Papillion-La Vista South.
While Iowa certainly would have loved to secure Medeck's commitment, especially given her skill set in the paint, the Hawkeyes will need to continue searching elsewhere as they retool their depth at the center position.

As former Iowa basketball star Drew Thelwell continues his professional journey with Pau-Lacq-Orthez in France, the 6-foot-2 guard has officially been named to Team Jamaica’s qualifying team for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
In his first season in France's Élite 2 league, the former Hawkeye recorded 10.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.7 ****** ists, and 1.2 steals in 31 games played.
In his one season with the Hawkeyes in the 2024-25 campaign, Thelwell averaged 9.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.2 ****** ists across 29 games played, while shooting around 50% from the field and a strong 41.2% from 3-point range.
As Team Jamaica looks to qualify for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, Thelwell will certainly help with his superb outside shooting presence and ability to generate scoring opportunities for teammates.

It's been quite the offseason for Iowa junior offensive lineman Kade Pieper.
It started with reports that he would be sliding over to center, which seems to be the case now. The Hawkeyes lost Rimington Award winner Logan Jones to the NFL. Pieper will try to fill those shoes in 2026. The Norfolk, Neb., native's offseason has continued with tons of preseason hype and accolades.
A few weeks ago, Pieper was named a preseason first-team All-American by Phil Steele. Last week, Athlon Sports gave him preseason first-team All-American honors. And, on Tuesday, another outlet awarded Pieper a preseason accolade.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound offensive lineman was named a preseason Walter Camp first-team All-American. Walter Camp is the nation’s oldest college football All-America team and a prestigious honor for Pieper.
Pieper could be in first-round pick discussions after this season if he puts together another strong year. The Hawkeyes have had a lot of success putting centers into the NFL recently. James Daniels, Tyler Linderbaum, and Jones were all drafted in the last decade. Pieper looks set to continue that lineage.

As the 2026 Iowa football season creeps closer, Athlon Sports named three Hawkeyes to its annual preseason All-America teams.
Junior offensive lineman Kade Pieper was named to Athlon Sports' preseason first-team All-America offense, junior offensive lineman Trevor Lauck to its second-team All-America offense and junior defensive back Zach Lutmer to its fourth-team All-America defense.
Pieper was terrific last season for the Hawkeyes at right guard, starting all 13 games there as the unit captured the Joe Moore Award. A native of Norfolk, Neb., Pieper was a third-team All-Big Ten selection by the media last season.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman is making the transition to center for Iowa to replace Logan Jones, who was drafted by the Bears in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Lauck leapt into a starting role for the first time in his Hawkeye career as well, starting all 13 games at left tackle as he replaced longtime starter Mason Richman. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound tackle was a third-team All-Big Ten choice by the coaches.

With the 2026 NBA Draft now in the books, the attention turns to the Summer League, where fans can catch a glimpse of their rookies for the first time.
For Iowa basketball fans, there are a few former Hawkeyes to keep an eye on when Summer League play begins next weekend. Bennett Stirtz, Payton Sandfort, and Josh Dix will take the court with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Brendan Hausen will suit up with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Starting with Oklahoma City, those three former Hawkeyes will get plenty of runway to show what they can do in Las Vegas. As the first-round pick of the group, Stirtz should see plenty of minutes, especially early on.

Philadelphia Eagles star Cooper DeJean has been romantically linked with Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Abby Summers since the pair attended the Elite Eight game between his alma mater, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Illinois Fighting Illini in March. The speculation grew further when the couple attended the Kentucky Derby together in early May.
During Thursday’s segment of the “Exciting Mics” podcast, DeJean addressed whether his relationship with Summers constituted a conflict of interest due to their representation of different franchises in the league. The Eagles and the Cowboys are also bitter NFC East rivals.
“I don’t really think it’s a conflict of interest,” DeJean said. “I mean, it’s not like we both play football. We don’t play football. She’s a cheerleader. There is going to be no insider information given either way.”
“We had known about each other for some time. Then we happened to be both in Florida at the same time during the national championship game,” DeJean said when asked about how he met with Summers. “She was down there and I was down there and then I met her there. I believe the next weekend was the Super Bowl and she was out there also and we had hung out there a couple times and after that, we kept seeing each other and hanging out.”
The couple was also spotted attending the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Naval Base Coronado together last Saturday.

Despite Iowa football being a finalist, 2027 four-star offensive lineman Kyler Kuhn announced his commitment to the Missouri Tigers.
Kuhn, who is a 6-foot-3, 280-pounder starring for St. Pius X High School in Kansas City, Mo., ranks as the No. 221 player nationally, as the No. 10 interior offensive lineman, and as the No. 5 recruit in the Show-Me State, according to 247Sports' composite rankings.
Kuhn committed to Missouri over Iowa and Nebraska.
While missing out on Kuhn is disappointing, Iowa has a great pitch to make to offensive line recruits. The Hawkeyes' tradition up front under head coach Kirk Ferentz is well established and Iowa won the Joe Moore Award last season under offensive line coach George Barnett's direction.
Iowa currently has offensive line commitments from Reilly Newman and Nate Brenneman in its 2027 class.

The Big Ten remains at the forefront of the recruiting world. As commitments continue to fly in this summer, the league continues to see its top programs stack impressive pledge lists.
But which schools are scoring more commitments from prospects closer to home? With the conference now going from coast to coast, there's plenty of "Big Ten backyards" that programs need to protect.

It's no surprise to see Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes target local talent. Six of the 13 commits in the class thus far are inside Iowa state lines. That includes the two highest-ranked prospects in the fold: Three-star LB Gavin Strecker and three-star TE Jaxx DeJean. There's also three Illinois recruits in the class, with legacy three-star DL Tommy Riordan headlining that trio.

The Oklahoma City Thunder landed Iowa star Bennett Stirtz in the first trade of the night on Tuesday.
The Thunder selected Stirtz with the No. 16 overall pick in the NBA Draft on Tuesday, thanks to a late trade they made with the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies briefly got the No. 17 overall pick, but dealt that away to the Detroit Pistons almost immediately to move back to No. 21. That netted them three additional future second round picks. While the full list of picks that the Grizzlies secured is not yet known, the organization ended up gaining five second-round picks to move back just five spots.
Stirtz averaged 19.8 points and 4.4 **** ists per game last season with the Hawkeyes. He transferred into Iowa City from Drake, following head coach Ben McCollum after he made the jump last summer, too. The All-Big Ten guard played nearly 38 minutes per game and helped the Hawkeyes reach the Elite Eight for the first time since 1987. They ended up falling to Illinois in that round of the tournament.
The move came just days after the Thunder sent Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for two future second-round picks, the first in 2030 and the second in 2032. That trade could end up saving the Thunder more than $60 million. The Thunder also selected Michigan big man Aday Mara at No. 12 overall on Tuesday night. The 7-foot-3 center was the best true big man in the draft class, and could be a possible answer for San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama in the Western Conference. Wembanyama and the Spurs beat the Thunder to reach the NBA Finals earlier this year, ending the Thunders' hopes for back-to-back **** les after their championship in 2025.

IOWA CITY — Class of 2028 defensive back Dwayle Smith has committed to Iowa football, he announced June 19.
Smith is the first commitment in the Hawkeyes' 2028 high school recruiting class.
Smith, who attends Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, held offers from Iowa, Florida State, Syracuse, Texas A&M, Wisconsin and others. The Hawkeyes offered in early May and Smith committed less than two months later.
Smith is listed at 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds.

After Caitlin Clark and Nike finally shared a look at her highly-anticipated Caitlin 1 shoes on Wednesday, the two-time WNBA All-Star is debuting her Nike signature shoes tonight as the Indiana Fever (9-5) host the Atlanta Dream (9-4) from Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
When asked which of the many hidden details throughout the pair of shoes is her favorite, the former Hawkeye legend pointed to the "C" pattern on the left shoe and the "2" pattern on the right as a clever, yet subtle intricacy she enjoys.

On3's Ari Wasserman ranked Ferentz as the fifth-best coach in the Big Ten, behind only Indiana's Curt Cignetti, Ohio State's Ryan Day, Oregon's Dan Lanning and Michigan's Kyle Whittingham.

Per On3's Joe Tipton, five-star point guard Cayden Daughtry will take an official visit to Iowa on Sept. 12, which coincides with the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series football game between Iowa and Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium.
Daughtry, a 6-foot, 160-pound point guard from Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is a five-star prospect, per the 247Sports composite rankings. In the 247Sports composite, Daughtry ranks as the No. 16 player nationally, as the No. 4 point guard and as the No. 4 player in Florida.
According to ESPN, Daughtry is the No. 12 prospect nationally, the No. 4 point guard and the top player in Florida. Daughtry is rated as the No. 22 player nationally, as the No. 7 point guard and as the No. 4 player in the Sunshine State, per Rivals.
The Hawkeyes offered Daughtry on July 12, 2025, and are viewed as one of the top contenders for his commitment, alongside schools such as Michigan, Miami and Florida State. Daughtry also holds offers from fellow power programs such as BYU, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, UConn and Villanova.

With his recruitment now in the rearview, Warren Central running back Keyon Thomas can focus on having a big senior season.
Thomas, a 6-foot, 205-pound senior-to-be, announced his commitment to Iowa on Wednesday, picking the Hawkeyes over Illinois and UConn. Thomas took official visits to those three schools and also had offers from several other Power Four programs.
Thomas, rated as three-star prospect and the No. 65 running back in the country by 247sports, rushed for 1,337 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. He also caught 18 passes for 184 yard and one TD. Thomas said recently that he was fully recovered from a high ankle sprain that slowed him in the Class 6A semistate against Brownsburg and ready for his senior season.
His goal is a 2,000-yard rushing year.
“I’m back to 100 percent,” he said. “I’m feeling shifty.”

On Tuesday, fans learned one of the opportunities to catch the Hawkeyes at home next season.
Kyle Huesmann of On3 was the first to report that Ben McCollum and the Hawkeyes have scheduled a nonconference date against South Dakota. Just before the calendar flips to 2027, Iowa will welcome the Coyotes into Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Dec. 29.
The Coyotes are members of the Summit League. They went 16-16 last season, including an 8-8 mark in conference play. South Dakota is coached by Eric Peterson, who has a 59-69 record in four seasons with the Coyotes.
South Dakota was ravaged by the transfer portal this offseason, losing three of its top four leading scorers: Isaac Bruns (20.8 points per game), Jordan Crawford (14.4 points per game), and Uzziah Buntyn (12.1 points per game).

After being cut by Golden State prior to the season and subsequently signing a player development contract with Los Angeles, Martin made her first trip back to the Bay Area on Monday night as the Sparks clashed with the Valkyries from the Chase Center in San Francisco, Calif.
The former Hawkeyes star discussed what it was like to return to Golden State in pregame with CBS Sports Bay Area's Matt Lively.
"Good to see familiar faces. Good to see some of my former teammates and spend some time with them while I've been here. I love this place, and so it's good to be back.
"I've tried to visualize it a little bit, just so when I get out there, I'm a little prepared. I'm excited. I know they welcomed other players warmly, of course. I wouldn't expect anything else from this crowd, but I'm just excited to see everybody and give my wave and say thank you to all of them," Martin said.
Lively asked if Martin had anything to say to the fans who supported her during the franchise's inaugural season last year.
