Eddie Murphy became one of Hollywood's biggest stars at such a young age, and there was no obvious handbook waiting for him. He had other successful Black entertainers to look toward, but the advice he received was not always practical. James Brown, for instance, apparently believed the then up-and-coming young comedian's best path to a long career involved cleaner language and a shovel. Thankfully, the legendary Saturday Night Live veteran did not take his advice.
Murphy recalled the wonderfully strange conversation in Apple TV's Number One on the Call Sheet: Black Leading Men in Hollywood. The two-part documentary gathers prominent Black actors to discuss their breakthroughs, struggles and the people who helped them navigate the industry. His story begins with Brown warning that his famously profane stand-up act could shorten his time in show business. Per the Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood sketch performer:

That will change. The only question is how quickly he'll be surpassed.
The two top running backs in the NFL — or at least the top two picks in just about every fantasy draft this year — are sitting out of training camp practices awaiting new deals. Jahmyr Gibbs was not present at the start of Lions practice on Wednesday according to the Detroit News. Bijan Robinson wasn't participating in Falcons practice according to The Athletic.

As Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers look to reload their passing attack, all eyes are on marquee addition Mike Evans. While Shanahan's offense has long been hailed as one of the NFL's premier schemes, the turnover in last season's receiving corps left a distinct void on the perimeter.
Last year, San Francisco pieced together a receiver room centered around Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne, Demarcus Robinson, and Ricky Pearsall. While that group offered versatility and grit through a grinding campaign, the offense frequently lacked a true boundary "X" receiver capable of consistently winning pure, unassisted one-on-one battles outside the numbers.
That is precisely where Evans changes the equation.
According to data from Sumner Sports cited by Athlon Sports' Doug Farrar, Evans has been the league's gold standard for isolation efficiency when healthy. The Tennessee ***** ans needed to make some significant moves during the offseason to build around quarterback Cam Ward, and did just that.
Tennessee spent big when adding diminutive slot receiver Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency and followed that by selecting Carnell Tate fourth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. But these weren't the only moves in rebuilding the roster and building a solid foundation.
Eva Geitheim of Sports Illustrated took a look at all of the ***** ans' moves and found one that could haunt them moving forward.
Tennessee ***** ans: Overpaying Wan'Dale Robinson
The ***** ans were in desperate need of receiver help, and thus turned to Wan'Dale Robinson in free agency, signing the 5'8" receiver to a four-year, $70 million deal. While Robinson's deal is far from what the best receivers are making, and there are only $38 million in guarantees in his contract, it's still a steep price for a receiver who narrowly surpassed 1,000 yards for the first time last season and has an injury history. Robinson, of course, can be a net positive for the ***** ans, particularly if he proves to be the reliable playmaker Ward needs, but this is also a move that might not age well.

One of the largest nuclear verdicts in history against trucking was handed down Thursday in a Dallas courtroom, a more than $600 million judgement that has quickly thrust C.H. Robinson into the post-Montgomery legal landscape.
A jury in Dallas County Court handed down a verdict of approximately $604 million in a case involving a March 2021 crash in Jackson, Mississippi. The case was filed in the Texas courtroom because the carrier whose truck was involved in the wreck, Lupus Superior, is based there.
C.H. Robinson (NASDAQ: CHRW) hired Lupus Superior to move products from Arizona Beverages.
Three persons were killed in the crash alongside numerous injuries to other automobile passengers in a pileup that occurred after a Lupus Superior truck driven by its employee, Gorgonio Gonzalez, plowed into several cars. Gonzalez also was killed in the crash.
The lead named plaintiff in the case is the estate of Peyton Lipe, who was one of the deceased.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have hired a new offensive coordinator every offseason since 2023. Former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is the next coach up, taking over for Josh Grizzard after an 8-9 season in which the offense averaged 5.2 yards per play, the lowest over the past three seasons and a full yard less than what they enjoyed under current Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen in 2024.

We’re concluding our positional preview with the secondary, cornerbacks and safeties. The **** ans have 17 defensive backs on the offseason roster. General manager Mike Borgonzi made various acquisitions across these positions.
In camp (17): Alontae Taylor, Cor’Dale Flott, Amani Hooker, Kevin Winston Jr., Marcus Harris, Tony Adams, Joshua Williams, Jerrick Reed II, Jalen McMurray, Latrell McCutchin, Jeadyn Lukus, Kendell Brooks, Sanoussi Kane, Erick Hallett II, Bishop Fitzgerald, Keydrain Calligan, Micah Robinson.
Biggest storyline: The **** ans totally revamped the cornerback room, signing Alontae Taylor and Cor’Dale Flott to very lucrative contracts in free agency. They’ll be tasked with being Robert Saleh’s starting boundary corners. This position needed a makeover after trading Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary, and cutting L’Jarius Sneed. Expectations are high for Taylor and Flott.
Most to prove: Both Kevin Winston Jr. and Marcus Harris are sophomores entering the year in starting roles. The **** ans cut Xavier Woods during the offseason to make room for Winston in the starting lineup opposite Amani Hooker. Harris doesn’t appear to have any competition for the nickel role either.
Breakout star: Winston Jr. is probably the correct choice. The former Penn State standout flashed an exciting skill set when he was healthy as a rookie. Winston is entering camp fully available and should make a massive impact next to Hooker in the lineup. He possesses every trait to be a breakout defender.

Breakout star: Winston Jr. is probably the correct choice. The former Penn State standout flashed an exciting skill set when he was healthy as a rookie. With the Cincinnati Bengals set to begin training camp next week, 90 players will begin their quest to make the 53-man roster heading into the regular season. While a good chunk of the roster is pretty set -- quarterback Joe Burrow is probably a safe bet to make the roster -- there are a few spots up for grabs and a few undrafted rookies looking to snag some of those spots.
Two undrafted rookies made the 53-man roster in 2025: defensive tackle Howard Cross III and long snapper William Wagner. Who could crack the roster this year? Here are a few names to watch in training camp.
The Cincinnati product will have a chance to crack the Cincinnati roster as one of the reserve linebackers and carve out an early special-teams role as a rookie. The Bengals will likely either keep four or five linebackers and three of them should be Demetrius Knight, Barrett Carter and Oren Burks. The fourth (and possibly fifth) spot will be up for grabs for a player like Dingle, who brings a lot of athleticism to the table.
Dingle will have some competition from another undrafted rookie linebacker for a possible roster spot. Gentry, the former USC Trojan, brings a lot of size, standing 6-foot-7. That's quite tall for a linebacker, but he was productive over four years with the Trojans. He posted 271 tackles and 27 tackles for a loss for USC. Can his size handle the NFL game? He'll have a chance to answer that in camp and the preseason.

The Atlanta Falcons did not have a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but they added two players in Round 1 of last year's draft. Edge rushers Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. both impressed as rookies (on the field), however, the team still missed the playoffs last season.

Between the NBA Summer League and free agency, the NBA offseason has been nothing short of hectic. Multiple superstars have switched teams, with some being traded while others chose new destinations in free agency. The offseason isn’t over just yet, with a few notable players still left to decide where they’ll sign.
Every NBA team’s roster and/or front office changed in some way this offseason, though some far more than others. For the most part, rosters are nearly finalized, so here’s each team’s offseason grade.

The Hawks’ roster didn’t change much this offseason. They acquired both Aaron Wiggins and Luguentz Dort from the Thunder, giving them an elite defensive backcourt and a young, promising guard.

The Celtics undoubtedly got worse this offseason, losing Jaylen Brown and essentially replacing him with an aging Paul George. They finally found a reliable center by bringing in Mitchell Robinson, but he’s not much better than Nikola Vučević.

DAYTONA BEACH — Jackie Robinson Ballpark was packed with thousands of fans on July 22. It wasn’t for the Daytona Tortugas or Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, but for a charity softball game between Volusia County’s Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue.
The real winner was the Volusia County community. It raised more than $70,000 after a plethora of contributions from locals. The money will go to the V Foundation for Cancer Research and Volusia Sheriff's Youth Foundation.
“To be honest with you, no,” said Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood on if the donation total was expected. “... I’ve been doing a lot of these things in my career, and there’s no way the first time out of the box you’re going to raise that kind of money. But you know what? We did.”
The on-field winners of the first Sheriff’s Office vs. Fire Rescue charity softball game were the firefighters — by a landslide.
Volusia County Fire scored five first-inning runs to set the tone for its eventual 26-6 rout in a game that featured four outfielders, 12-spot batting orders, Spruce Creek’s softball team and a firefighter dressed as a thief, which the Sheriff’s Office put out and sentenced to his dugout.

The San Francisco 49ers are likely going to be tied to a slew of free agents throughout the early portion of training camp. Wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Deebo Samuel have both come up as possible additions for San Francisco in the days leading up to camp, but don't expect the 49ers to be active in the free agent market.
An significant addition in the day or two before camp or early in camp without an unforeseen injury isn't a typical 49ers move. If they were going to take a swing for a player like Diggs, Samuel or defensive end Joey Bosa, they likely would've had that business done by now.
Instead, we're more likely to see San Francisco lean on its veterans to pick up any slack left behind by rookies and second-year players who haven't proven themselves. They'll look to Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson to produce if De'Zhaun Stribling struggles. A player like Keion White will see a bigger role if a player like Romello Height can't make an impact as a rookie.
During the John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan regime, the club has tended to bet on its own internal talent before going out and taking a swing either via free agency or the trade market.
That's not to say a player like Diggs, Samuel or Bosa couldn't help the 49ers. Adding depth, especially high quality depth, can help round out a Super Bowl roster.

We feel pretty confident that Spencer Fano will start at left tackle, Tytus Howard will be at right tackle, and Zion Johnson will be at left guard. The other two positions are up for a debate, with a caveat. Even though two positions are available, Elgton Jenkins is practically guaranteed to fill one of them: the team is just trying to figure out if that will be at center or right guard.
If Jenkins is at center, then that opens up a competition at right guard between Teven Jenkins and KT Leveston. If E. Jenkins is put at right guard, then it could mean a spot for for rookie Parker Brailsford at center.
