INDIANAPOLIS – USA Track & Field's national indoor championships are coming to Indianapolis for each of the next two years.
The meets will be at Fall Creek Pavilion on the Indiana State Fairgrounds. Dates are Feb. 19-21, 2027, and Feb. 18-20, 2028.
Indianapolis has never been a site of the indoor nationals, held annually since 1906.
The 2027 meet coincides with the 40th anniversary of the inaugural World Indoor Championships, held at the then-Hoosier Dome in 1987, and 20th anniversary of the most recent nationals here, the outdoor championships at Carroll Stadium in 2007.

A new crop of players will soon make their names known across Section V as the high school football season kicks off this week.
We want to know who will be the best football player in the upcoming Class D season? We're asking readers to help answer that question.

Cora Castellani has seen Bucknell University merchandise in her family's house for most of her life.
More than three decades ago, her father, Corey, was a linebacker for the Bison in the early 1990s after earning all-state honors at Valley View.
Now, he will have to dig out some of his old sweatshirts, and the family will spend a few more years cheering on the blue and orange, but this time on the basketball court in the Sojka Pavilion.
Cora committed on Thursday to attend Bucknell University, where she will play NCAA Division I women's basketball for head coach Trevor Woodruff. The Bison finished 11-19 overall last season and 7-11 in the Patriot League.

Theatergoers in the United Kingdom were met with a surprising update from a cast member of "9 to 5: The Musical," who appeared to break the news of Dolly Parton's death ahead of Tuesday's performance.
"Good evening. Before we begin tonight's performance of '9 to 5,' we would like to take a moment to remember the remarkable Dolly Parton, who has sadly passed away today," a cast member for the touring production of the musical shared with audience members at the Pavilion Theatre ahead of the scheduled show in Worthing, England.
Many in the crowd appeared taken aback by the news of Parton's passing, as several theatergoers could be heard gasping and saying, "Oh!" in response to the update.

NEW DELHI: Yashasvi Jaiswal has broken his silence on his heated confrontation with Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando, making a surprise comment on a social media video discussing their on-field spat during the opening day of the second Test in Colombo.
Jaiswal responded to a Cricbuzz video featuring cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, ***** led 'Did Jaiswal cross the line?', urging people not to judge the incident without knowing what had been said between the two players.
"If you don't know what he said then please don't make your judgment if anyone cross the line we need to let them know this India will fight and reply," Yashasvi Jaiswal commented on the video.

The UConn women's basketball team, winner of 12 national championships, will renew a slew of rivalries during the non-conference portion of their 2026-27 schedule.
The slate, which was announced Monday, Aug. 17, includes matchups with South Carolina, Tennessee and Notre Dame.
UConn will face Dawn Staley's Gamecocks on Nov. 24 at the Hall of Fame Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. This will be the first meeting between UConn and South Carolina since the 2026 Final Four where UConn coach Geno Auriemma got upset near the end of the loss that ended the Huskies' perfect season, yelling at Staley before leaving the court.
The Huskies will visit the Fighting Irish at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana, on Dec. 9, marking the 58th meeting between the two sides. UConn beat Notre Dame twice last season, once in Storrs, Connecticut, and again in the Elite Eight in Fort Worth, Texas. Providence will scatter from there before the start of first semester, the last real extended break before its 100th men's basketball season. The Friars have answered a few questions and hope to address a few more before two exhibition games in October and the opener in November.
Dink Pate's eligibility, Leonardo Marangon's arrival from Italy, another possible roster addition and minor injuries that sidelined Ryan Mela and Samson Aletan for Thursday's session at the Ruane Friar Development Center all linger. Providence still has time to sort out any challenges before Bryan Hodgson makes his formal coaching debut against Maine at Amica Mutual Pavilion.
"I feel like we got better," Hodgson said. "We've got a great group of young men. We were able to install not only things on the floor, but our culture — how we want things to look."
Pate was a headline commitment for the program after three seasons in the G League, the last with the Westchester Knicks. The rangy shooting guard declined both two-way and 10-day contracts offered by parent club New York with the intention of preserving his college eligibility. The Friars expect a favorable ruling from the NCAA while nearing the end of the process to add Pate for 2026-27.

Sir Garfield Sobers was called the "greatest all-round cricketer the world has ever known" by former team-mate Sir Clive Lloyd at the legendary West Indies player's state funeral in Barbados.
Lloyd described all-rounder Sobers, who died aged 89 on 17 July, as "a man who lived in the hearts and minds of Caribbean people and who became a source of inspiration to millions throughout the world".
An entertaining left-handed batter and bowler of seam and spin, Sobers played 93 Tests between 1954 and 1974, scoring 8,032 runs and taking 235 wickets.
The funeral was staged at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, the principle ground in Barbados and home to a pavilion named after Sobers.
Lloyd and fellow West Indies legends Brian Lara and Desmond Haynes were among those who spoke at the state service of thanksgiving, which was also attended by Barbados president Jeffrey Bostic, prime minister Mia Mottley and Barbadian music superstar Rihanna.

The Grizzlies beat the Warriors in an NBA Summer League game at ****** Pavilion in Las Vegas on July 14, but the path there was anything but straightforward.
Even though many teams have started to rest or completely shut down their top players, the Grizzlies started both Cam Boozer and Cedric Coward. Neither played particularly well, though.
Instead, it was Javon Small and Brendan Hausen who led the Grizzlies to a 106-85 win over the Yaxel Lendeborg-led Warriors.
Here are our takeaways from the game.
There was no doubt that Small and Hausen were the Grizzlies' standouts against the Warriors. San Antonio defeated Milwaukee, 90-80, on Sunday in the NBA Summer League at ******* Pavilion in Las Vegas, Nevada. Four former Vols appeared in the contest, including three starters.
Nate Ament started for the Bucks and played 25 minutes. He totaled seven points and five rebounds. Ament converted 3-of-7 field goal attempts and 1-of-2 three-point attempts.

LAS VEGAS – The Phoenix Suns shook off a horrid first half to begin 2026 NBA Summer League play and edged the Portland Trail Blazers, 81-79, July 10 at **** Pavilion.
The Suns shot a mere 21.1% in the first half, missing all 13 of their 3-point attempts and trailing, 38-24, at the break.
"That first half, I was messing with the coaching staff; I don't think I've seen a box score like that, but they got the jitters out," Suns Summer League coach Chaisson Allen said. "It's common. You come into this environment with all these people in the building, nerves.
"To get that out in the first half, and then to respond the way they did? Proud of the guys."

FIRST ON FOX: More details are emerging after an American flag was displayed upside down at a Somali Independence Day event in Minnesota, sparking both outrage and apologies in a situation that has gone viral on social media in recent days.
The St. Cloud Police Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that on July 3 at 5:29 p.m., the department received a call that the U.S. flag was being flown upside down on a city flagpole at the Lake George Park Pavilion during a Somali Independence Day event.

Center Rienk Mast posted 16 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Taevion Kinsey added 16 points to lead the Pacers to a 99-93 win over the Cavaliers at the Pavilion in Las Vegas on Friday in the first NBA Summer League game of the season for both teams.
Forward Jalen Slawson added 15 points, six rebounds, five ***** ists and five blocks for the Pacers. Guard Taelon Peter scored 13 points and forward Keion Brooks Jr. added 11. Guard Meleek Thomas and forward Nae'Qwan Tomlin led the Cavaliers with 20 points each. Guard Malakhi Branham added 15 points.
The Pacers and Cavs both had a brutal first quarter with evident jitters as both struggled to make shots and take care of the basketball. Cleveland led 14-11 after the first quarter as the Pacers got a few buckets from center Rienk Mast but little else.
But the the Pacers combined for 64 points in the middle two quarters, outscoring Cleveland 32-15 in the third to take a sizable lead heading into the fourth. A big part of what sparked the revival was the play of point guards Braden Smith and Yuki Kawamura, and the fact that the Pacers didn't have a problem putting both on the floor at the same time. That obviously made them small in the backcourt as Smith is just 5 foot 10 and Kawamura is 5-7, but they're both so good at passing the ball and getting it ahead that they made the pace of the game work for them.
Smith finished with just five points on 1 of 8 shooting including 1 of 5 from 3 but he had eight rebounds, four ***** ists and three steals. Kawamura had eight points on 3 of 5 shooting and four ***** ists, but their impacts went beyond just the counting stats as they raised the level for everyone else on the floor. As ***** istant coach Johnny Carpenter said about Kawamura before leaving for his job in Milwaukee, Kawamura and Smith both force everyone around them to move more when they're on the floor and them being around got everyone else organized and also running hard up and down the floor looking for opportunities. Kawamura was plus-4 in his time on the floor though Smith was minus-5.

Koa Peat is looking forward to doing that in his NBA Summer League debut on Friday, July 10, against the Portland Trail Blazers at ****** Pavilion.
Arizona's Family Sports and ESPNU are televising the 8 p.m. game.
"Just show these coaches and everybody that I impact winning," said Peat, after the team's morning shootaround at ****** Pavilion.

Las Vegas — The Detroit Pistons began their five-game Summer League schedule with a 101-91 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night at ***** Pavilion in Las Vegas.
Isaac Jones led the Pistons with 22 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. He tied the game at 85 with a layup at the 3:56 mark of the fourth quarter. However, on the 76ers' next offensive possession, rookie guard Labaron Philon scored an And-1 basket, giving Philadelphia the momentum they needed to close out the game. Philon scored 18 points.
Rookie guard Ebuka Okorie had a solid debut for the Pistons, finishing with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting with two made triples. He scored nine points in the third quarter alone.

The Philadelphia 76ers began summer league play on Thursday when they took on the Detroit Pistons in Las Vegas. It offered up the first opportunity for them to see what they have in their younger pieces in a competitive setting. They have been practicing all week, and now is the time to get in an actual game.
The summer Sixers began with a 101-93 win over the Pistons at The Pavilion. There were some sloppy moments, as there always are in the summer league, but the Sixers have to be happy with what they saw from the young players in the summer league opener.
Rookie guard Labaron Philon Jr. finished with 18 points and seven **** ists while Johni Broome had 19 points and 13 rebounds. Isaac Johnson had 20 points off the bench and Dante Maddox Jr. had 21 points while Amani Lyles had 11 points.

The NBA draft has come and gone, free agency continues to blow in the wind, fireworks have popped off, hot dogs have been consumed. That only means one thing: it’s time for Summer League.
While the California Classic and SLC Summer League delivered a hint of what’s to come, the main event is here: 31 games in Las Vegas from Thursday to Sunday and then the action just keeps pouring in next week.
No matter how you feel about Summer League, it’s hard to deny it’s continued growth. As a matter of fact, when I played at UNLV (yes I did, yes it was a long time ago, please respect my privacy), there were moments where you could walk through Thomas & Mack Center and ******* Pavilion unbothered. Those days are long gone; it’s highly likely that anybody who is anybody will pop up and that anybody who wants to be somebody will be along for the ride. There’s an energy that’s hard to explain; the polos, the notebooks, the shuffle between arenas. The mix of Summer League veterans and people experiencing it for the first time delivers a unique charm.
Part of the charm is how much Summer League is about opportunity. There is the obvious nature of the headlining rookies — AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cam Boozer, Caleb Wilson, etc. — showcasing what they can do (and starting the weekend trying to do it against each other). It goes beyond that, though. There is a chance for returning players to focus in on different aspects of their game in a different role and a different context. There’s value in being able to get more on-ball reps, to carry more of a responsibility on both ends of the floor. You can lay a foundation that could pay off down the line.
How does that serve a defense and energy-first guy like the Lakers’ Adou Thiero? Do the extra opportunities give more wiggle room for Boston’s Hugo Gonzalez or San Antonio’s Carter Bryant to build on top of the things that earned them rotation minutes as rookies? Is this the right environment for Utah’s Cody Williams to build on the aggression he showed early last season? Can Orlando’s Jase Richardson show the flashes are hiding just how bright he could become?

Purdue men's basketball has another upper-tier nonconference series in the works,
Villanova coach Kevin Willard said on the "Inside College Basketball Now" podcast the Wildcats are working on scheduling a home-and-home series with the Boilermakers to begin in 2027. IndyStar confirmed the programs have discussed scheduling each other.
Willard did not specify whether Villanova's home game would be played on campus at Finneran Pavilion, or in downtown Philadelphia at Xfinity Mobile Arena. Purdue has looked for semi-neutral return agreements as part of the Indy Classic, including a recent series against Auburn.
Purdue is already scheduled to play Tennessee in Knoxville on Dec. 11, 2027. It traditionally plays two or three power conference or high-major opponents in addition to two or three games in a multi-team event around Thanksgiving. This coming season, for instance, it plays Gonzaga on a neutral court, at Iowa State to conclude a home-and-home agreement, and at home against the Volunteers to begin one.

Former University of Hawaii basketball players Isaac "Big Fish" Johnson and Quandre "Dre" Bullock are hopeful of continuing their careers on the Ninth Island this summer.
Although both auditioned for teams, neither is expected to be selected in the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday and Wednesday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The last UH player to be drafted was forward Reggie Cross in the second round in 1989. A shoulder injury likely prevented guard Anthony "AC" Carter from being drafted in 1998. But Carter went on to play 12 NBA seasons and serve as an ***** istant coach for another eight years.
Johnson and Bullock expressed a goal of playing in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. All 30 NBA teams will field teams in the July 9-19 event at the Thomas &Mack Center and Pavilion on the UNLV campus. Their backup plan is to play professionally overseas.
"Hopeful," Johnson said of his chances of playing for an NBA summer team.
Bullock said: "Most likely I'll be in the summer league."

Gleeson, an Australian native who holds dual U.S.-Australian citizenship, was one of the few attendees among nearly 5,000 who were sporting a yellow and green jersey with "Australia" stitched down the side during the highly anticipated match between the two countries.
While he considered repping jerseys from both countries, Gleeson said he's learned to "always stay with your roots."
"I was born and raised in Australia, but I was very proud of how both teams performed, and, you know, I think the better team won," Gleeson said. "And I'm honorable enough to respect and acknowledge that."
The 2-0 victory sent the men's national team to the next round of the tournament, and the team clinched the top spot in their group Friday evening with Paraguay's against Turkey. As for Australia, the Soccerroos would guarantee a trip to the knockout round with a draw and could still advance with a loss.

Prince Yadav's ODI debut had all the ingredients of a dream beginning - a wicket, celebrations and teammates rushing in to congratulate him. The young pacer thought he had claimed his maiden ODI wicket when Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz miscued a pull shot and offered a simple catch to Arshdeep Singh at mid-on. Prince celebrated, his teammates joined in with high-fives, and the smiles were all around.
Then came the dreaded siren.
