Shortly before 5 p.m. on Sept. 3, the Ohio State men's basketball program issued a press release publicly confirming the return of one of its most decorated players: Jared Sullinger, one of only three players in program history to be a first-team All-American more than once, was joining coach Jake Diebler's staff as director of player development.
The move had been in the works for a while and all but finalized during the weekend, but Sullinger kept it close to the vest. So close that, as of about three hours after the news was made public, he had not yet heard from former teammates and close friends such as Aaron Craft and David Lighty because he hadn't tipped them off.
"Honestly, ******* ody knew," he said. "I kept it under wraps for a reason. I just wanted to say ******* o world; this is the new me. I haven't gotten those text messages yet, but I'm pretty sure when I get those text messages, I'm probably going to cry like a little baby."
Whether or not tears wound up falling, Sullinger had a lot of emotions to unpack. In joining the staff, he officially announced his retirement as a player. He spent two years with the Buckeyes, five in the NBA and parts of the next nine overseas while also spending time playing for Ohio State's alumni teams in The Basketball Tournament.
After primarily playing in China in recent seasons, the decision to both stop playing and join the Ohio State staff was made with his family in mind. Sullinger and his wife, DeAnn, have three children: twins Jared. Jr. and Jemma, who will be 7 later this month, and Jaycee, who is 5.

Nestlé has found a buyer for the "mainstream" vitamins, minerals and supplements (VMS) brands it put under review last year.
The Swiss food giant has agreed to offload the portfolio to US private-equity firm Yellow Wood Partners for SFr800m ($1bn).
The disposal concludes the process Nestlé launched last year for its "mainstream and value VMS brands".
Nestlé has labelled the portfolio being sold as the "Holistic Health portfolio". It includes seven brands: Nature's Bounty, Osteo Bi-Flex, Ester-C, Gard, Puritan's Pride, Sisu and hydration brand Nuun.

Social media users have been waiting months for Alix Earle to address her feud with fellow podcaster and social media star Alex Cooper. The wait is officially over now that Earle has finally debuted her reality series "Earle Meets World," in which she talks about what happened with her former boss.
In an interview with USA TODAY ahead of the Sept. 4 release on Netflix, Earle, 25, was asked if she regretted not speaking out sooner or how she handled the situation. Her talking about the drama on camera was unplanned, she explained. "I can look back and think that maybe I could have done things differently," Earle said. "But honestly, I'm happy that I didn't speak out of emotions online at the time."
The two were business partners while Cooper's Unwell Podcast Network hosted Earle's "Hot Mess" podcast until March 2025. Earle abruptly left the network, took her show with her, and never explained exactly why. In April, Cooper issued a public statement regarding the feud speculation, and Earle said she would speak on it in the future.

Fares Ziam will have Trevor Wittman in his corner at UFC Fight Night 287.Ziam (18-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) takes on Axel Sola (12-1-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) in Saturday's lightweight co-main event at Accor Arena in Paris.
Ziam has worked with Wittman before, and even served as a key training partner for UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje's UFC 324 fight against Paddy Pimblett. But now Ziam is looking to make a permanent move onto Wittman's team.
"My plan is to move with my family to the U.S. to be in Denver," Ziam told MMA Junkie. "Honestly, like I say, two to three years in Denver and forget, but yes, for me it's important to evolve in this game, to be focused. Before, I didn't have any head coach. I had a team around me, but at this level, we need a head coach, a guy who thinks for you, a guy who works well for you, and Trevor is the best for me."
Ziam saw his six-fight winning streak snapped by Tom Nolan in June at UFC Fight Night 278. Not only was it his first setback in more than four years, he also lost his spot in the lightweight rankings.
"I don't underestimate anybody, but I was on a six-fight win streak," Ziam said. "It's true also, not a lot of hype on this fight, but a fight is a fight, so we need to go 100 percent on focus. In this fight, I lost my focus a little bit. I was too relaxed, but I think everyone knows I'm better than him. But that night, he won."

COLLEGE STATION - ESPN's ranking of the country's top college football players featured numerous players from Texas schools but only one Texas A&M player made the list.
Wide receiver Mario Craver slotted in at No. 86 on the list.

But that was nothing compared to what Simmons got into this past week, when he admitted to using his daughter's boyfriend as a proxy to place bets despite not being in a state where sports betting was legal.
Simmons shared the story in the tone of an amusing anecdote, calling it a bonding experience between himself and his daughter's boyfriend.
"I let Hank log into my FanDuel as me, [sent] the code to make sure it's me to my phone, I give him the code, he logs in," Simmons said. "And I have all this money that I had from last year because I actually hit a bunch of futures last year. And he's putting in bets for me, and honestly it's the closest I've ever felt to Hank. Real bonding moment for us."

Steel and aluminum stocks surged and then retreated last week as the escalating trade war between the United States and Canada sent investors scrambling to reprice exposure to North American metals supply chains.
SLX gained 1.6% on Monday, Aug. 25, following the breakdown of U.S.-Canada trade talks, and the State Street Materials Select Sector SPDR (XLB) reached a new intraday record that session, topping the peak it had set in February. Shares of Nucor, Steel Dynamics, Cleveland-Cliffs, and Century Aluminum all climbed. The gains proved short-lived, however: by Friday's close, XLB had slipped into the red for the week and SLX was essentially unchanged, according to CNBC. Through Aug. 28, Morningstar data show SLX has gained more than 28% on the year and XLB more than 18%.
The swing reflects the complexity of a trade war between two countries whose metals industries are deeply intertwined. Dan Luttner, who serves as managing partner of the supply chain consulting firm NEOS by Argon & Company, characterized the initial stock move to CNBC as a repricing reflex rather than a durable signal. "The stock pop is a headline reflex, honestly — mills reprice to replacement cost the second a 50% wall goes up, so of course Nucor and Cleveland-Cliffs jumped," Luttner said. "But that's not the interesting question. The interesting question is who controls their feedstock inside the wall versus who's still exposed to it?"
Luttner noted that both Nucor and Cleveland-Cliffs use electric arc furnace technology whose inputs have no dependence on Canadian ore or slab, positioning them to capture tariff-driven pricing benefits without the same exposure. Cleveland-Cliffs stock is nonetheless in negative territory for 2026 because of balance sheet stress. Century Aluminum is a more complicated case: because domestic primary aluminum production is thin, the raw inputs that sustain it — alumina and semi-finished material — largely still flow across the Canadian border, undermining the protection the tariffs were meant to provide.
Atsi Sheth, chief credit officer at Moody's Ratings, said uncertainty will persist. "Expect much more of this uncertainty for some time to come," Sheth said. She added that U.S. steel companies hold a modest edge over their Canadian counterparts because the U.S. market is larger, but said the auto sector has no clear winner given how deeply integrated cross-border production is.

T.J. Watt is coming off one of the worst performances of his NFL career, which subsequently resulted in the Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher tumbling down ESPN's top 100 players prediction for the 2026 season.
In ESPN's new top 100 players list, Watt saw his ranking tumble 54 spots from last year to No. 65 for the 2026 season. Honestly, this could still be viewed as a compliment considering how his 2025 season played out.
"Watt's production has dipped since he led the league with 19 sacks in 2023, but part of the reason he dropped off in 2025 is a freak situation where he suffered a partially collapsed a lung during dry needling treatment," ESPN's Brooke Pryor wrote. "He is fully healthy entering his 10th season and has vowed to be open to moving around in Graham's system -- something he admitted he was too stubborn to do under the previous regime."
It's true that Watt is going to be moving around the defensive line a lot more in 2026, but he's no doubt at his best when coming off the left side. That was until offenses found a way to neutralize his presence, leaving the Steelers, and Watt, with no choice but to shake things up in 2026.

Payton Tolle is one of the best stories of the 2026 season. A thoughtful prospect writer brought him to my attention early last year, knowing my affinity for a good four-seamer, a thick 'stache and a mien that would be equally at home on a small fishing boat off the coast of Bangor in 1890 as he is on a pitching mound. Tolle wears his emotions openly across his face and through his body; the joy, the devastation, the playfulness. To be pitching at the level that he is requires skill and effort, but part of Tolle's charm is the authenticity woven within all that baseball work. Maybe this won't resonate to anyone else, but there are a lot of guys who present as baseball players first and humans as a secondary classification. Tolle is distinctly a human playing baseball, and it's one of the highest compliments I can pay (see also: Gutierrez, Franklin or Wilhelmsen, Tom, among others).
It came as little surprise, then, when Tolle cited the Turnpike Troubadors as one of his favorite musical acts. There's the Oklahoma connection, of course, with both hailing from the Sooner State, but that same authenticity runs through every song Turnpike performs. And that's courtesy of Evan Felker, the band's lead singer and one of the finest songwriters of the generation.
No one here needs to read any more about the Seattle Mariners today. Honestly, we're all probably good for the rest of the year on consumption of Mariners content, but regardless of their record this is still a community, and community means continuing showing up for one another. After their surprise return to the UK, Prince Harry and Meghan's new home is not on a royal estate -- but may be nestled in a quaint rural corner of England, now a playground for A-list celebrities.
The couple left for California in 2020 amid acrimony over their bitter criticisms of the royal family, and gave up for good their home in Windsor, west of London, gifted to them by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
But after six years in Montecito they have now returned along with their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, and have reportedly found a new home in the Cotswolds.
In the picturesque town of Burford, near the university city of Oxford, hospitality manager Joe Kind, 25, told AFP locals were used to "lots of really, really famous" faces.
People wouldn't "bat an eye" at the couple's presence and would leave them to enjoy their privacy, he said.

The internet has a funny way of making a very big world feel tiny. Breckie Hill and Alix Earle are a pretty good example. Years before millions of people were following their lives online, both creators were students at the University of Miami. Now, according to Hill, they have somehow ended up under the same roof.

NASHVILLE — With just under 1:30 left in Jackson State football's season opener against Tennessee State, things were not looking good for the road team.
JSU led TSU by two points, but a 24-yard completion allowed TSU to work the ball into the red zone with plenty of time left.
Two plays later, an incomplete pass, followed by a delay of game penalty and a sack, forced TSU to set up for the game-winning field goal attempt. However, the kick never happened after a botched snap and hold, and JSU held on to win 26-24 at FirstBank Stadium on Aug. 29.
"Honestly, I just really trusted the defense," wide receiver Jabari Jones said of watching TSU's final drive. "They went out there and stopped them, forced the field goal, and hey."

Just days after the heartbreaking death of iconic entertainer Dolly Parton, a member of her extended family has confirmed she has been "laid to rest."
On August 29, Lainey Mae Parton shared a beautiful tribute to Dolly via Facebook. Her post began, "This is a really hard post for me ot make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words."
Lainey refers to Dolly as "granny," although technically the "Jolene" singer didn't have any children or grandchildren. However, many of Dolly's nieces, nephews, and their children refer to the beloved singer as "Aunt Granny."

On August 29, Lainey Mae Parton shared a beautiful tribute to Dolly via Facebook. Her post began, "This is a really hard post for me ot make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words."

Since Purdue football kicks off their season on Friday we are now less than one week away from the start of the reason. Ryan and I have covered the schedule for the last several weeks. Drew has gone through each unit on the team. Drew has also covered every opponent on the schedule week by week. Things are going to change week after week given how many questions we have not only about this team but about the opponents. The transfer portal has changed everything and it feels like we know less and less about these teams each season while the NCAA continues to be the wild west. Regardless, there's content to be created and so I asked the staff to tell me their predictions for the 2026 Purdue football record. So, let's get to it.

I've looked hard at this schedule and I want to be optimistic. But there are just too many question marks for me to go with a full throated optimistic take. The roster for the 2026 Motocross of Nations Team USA roster was announced on Press Day for the Pro Motocross finale at Ironman Raceway, and it features Chance Hymas in the MXGP class, Levi Kitchen in MX2, and the veteran Cooper Webb in the Open class.
"They're going to do a great job," said Mike Pelletier, Director of Racing. "I think these three bleed red, white and blue, to be honest with you. And they've been pounding on the door for a long time. They've been riding great this season. It's time to show them what the world knows again in France."

NEW YORK (AP) — Coco Gauff was caught by surprise when she saw her mom take to social media about excessive U.S. Open ticket requests from family and friends.
That doesn't mean she has any issue with it.
A day after Candi Gauff posted on a "blunt but necessary statement" on Instagram saying her daughter's tickets for the Grand Slam tournament were spoken for, Coco defended the sentiment.

God bless the 6% of you who said the playoffs were already within reach. As I talked about on Sunday's Royals Rundown Podcast, when I was a kid I would believe the Royals had a shot right up until they were officially eliminated. That 30-game winning streak was coming; I was just sure of it!
After writing out all the winning percentages involved, I did end up voting with the plurality of 37% on this one. I wanted the Royals to finish out August with a winning streak. to believe it was a possibility. They didn't manage it, losing one of the games in Toronto with three in Cleveland left to go before the month is over. That said, if they can sweep in Cleveland (a big if with Tanner Bibee, Foster Griffin, and Parker Messick scheduled to pitch this weekend), maybe I'll still give in to some hopium for a September where they'd need to go 18-6 to reach .500.
The second place selection at 31% was midway through September and, honestly, if they had managed that, or if they can get there with only the one loss, I think the Royals playoff odds would rocket up from the current 0.1% to something like 50% at least. That's a very reasonable time to believe, but man, I can't imagine living my life where I had to see my favorite sports team go that far before I was able to dream a little about them. And those 18% of you who think the Royals need to win every remaining game – which would have gotten them to 88 wins, now 87 – make me truly sad.

Pape Matar Sarr hasn't been seen in a Tottenham shirt since preseason and there are plenty of rumors that both he and the club are looking for an exit from N17. According to Sky Sports France's Sascha Tavolieri, the club making a late push for Sarr is none other than our good friends Nottingham Forest.
Previous rumors suggested that Sarr had preferred a move to Monaco, which as a French speaking Senegalese dude makes a ton of sense and would be a good move for him. Tavolieri writes that the Monaco interest is real, but unlikely to happen before the last week of the season and is contingent on Monaco offloading American striker Folarin Balogun first. But staying in the Premier League would have its advantages as well.
The whole kerfluffle over Morgan Gibbs-White last summer seemingly hasn't dimmed Tottenham's relationship with Forest THAT much if they're still considering a a deal. A loan plus an option isn't the best outcome for Tottenham, but it beats keeping Sarr around if he's not going to play that much, which feels like the case. Honestly, Forest wouldn't be a terrible club for Sarr to land at — he's likely going to get more playing time there and Oliver Glasner is a pretty good coach with good midfield ideas. No guarantee that Forest's mobster-boss owner Evangelos Marinakis wouldn't sack Glasner in a fit of rage after three consecutive losses, either.
Tavolieri writes that Spurs are asking €25m (£21.5m) for Sarr, which is what caused Galatasaray to back down after they offered €18m. That's well within the budgets of both Monaco and Forest (especially Forest). It could come down to where Sarr ultimately wants to go. But at this point it's looking very likely that he WILL go. Somewhere.

IndyCar president Doug Boles flew from Ontario to Washington, D.C., the evening of Aug. 16 with as much trepidation as he had optimism. Boles, who typically travels to the site of IndyCar's upcoming race mid-week, wasted no time getting to the nation's capital ahead of the series' second-biggest race of the year, the Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
After IndyCar and promoter Green Savoree Racing Promotions made a poor first impression – having to call off Friday's practice session – at their new street race in Markham, Ontario, it wasn't clear what awaited for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix, although this race was promoted by Penske Entertainment with ****** istance from Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Harbinger.
"Honestly, I was worried just because how Canada had gone," Boles told IndyStar in an exclusive interview.
But after a dinner with Penske Corporation president Bud Denker and the chance to see the 7-turn, 1.7-mile track come to fruition, Boles realized that IndyCar was "in good shape" for Saturday and Sunday's on-track sessions.
Once President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing the IndyCar race – which was won by Kyle Kirkwood – to occur around the U.S. Capitol Building, the series had less than seven months to check every box for the new street course. (It typically takes a year, sometimes two, to set up new street circuits.)

When seen from the safe, comfortable vantage point of the living room sofa, it all seems so simple. Frank Mir was a UFC heavyweight champion with a long, decorated career in fight sports. His daughter Bella, being of his genetic lineage, also seemed to have some natural aptitude for the mixing of the martial arts, so it was only a matter of time until we saw her on the way to the UFC.
So when some people see her fighting on this Tuesday's edition of Dana White's Contender Series, they might think nothing of it. Pure logical progression, right? You'd think so, at least, if you've never spoken to a professional fighter about this very issue.
Many years ago I was having drinks with what you might call a mid-level UFC fighter whose wife had recently given birth to their first child. I offered my congratulations, like you do, and then without thinking much about it made an offhand remark about how maybe one day I'd cover one of his son's UFC fights the same way I'd covered the father's.
What I remember now is the look he gave me before he told me, in a tone of voice that said there was to be no joking on this subject, "That's honestly my worst nightmare."
Since I learn nothing, a couple years later I made the same mistake with former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones. Standing around the gym in Albuquerque, making conversation, I asked which of his daughters had the best chance of becoming a champion fighter some day.

TWENTY-FOUR SERVICE ERRORS.
How did Marquette get to a fifth set against #2 Texas on Monday night at Fiserv Forum? The Longhorns handed Marquette 24 of their 93 points — 25.8%! — in the match by way of just completely whiffing on a serve, either long or into the net. Over and over and over and over again. Four in the first, eight in the second, four in the third, six in the fourth, including the point that tipped the match to a fifth set, and then two more in the final frame as well.
Honestly, it's amazing that the eight errors in the second didn't bite them in the ******* worse, as UT won that frame 25-19, nearly entirely because of a 7-0 run late in the frame. Turns out Marquette hitting -0.167 in the set with six errors against five kills was very bad for the Golden Eagles' chances of winning this match!
Here's what happened as Texas slipped past the Golden Eagles in the final match of the AVCA First Serve event:
First, Marquette got a 25-22 first set victory, largely because they turned 14-all into 19-14 and then held on from there.

Los Angeles Dodgers starter Blake Snell logged another quality start Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he isn't satisfied just yet.
Snell came back from a procedure on his elbow Aug. 11, and has been fantastic in all three of his starts since returning. In his first appearance off of the injured list, Snell allowed just one earned run through six innings while striking out 10 batters.
He only allowed one run in his subsequent outing, striking out five batters through six innings on his way to his first win of the season. The southpaw made his third appearance of the month on Sunday, shutting out the Pirates through six innings with six strikeouts.
Despite his dominant three-game run, though, Snell still expects better from himself.
"There were a couple innings there where you get two quick outs and then a full-count walk," Snell said. "It's not acceptable. Especially with [how] I feel good, know I can command the ball. Honestly, it's lazy. It's me trying to get strikeouts instead of trying to go seven, eight, nine. So I definitely got to clean that up."

The Wonka actor and girlfriend Kylie Jenner attended Jordyn Woods and Karl-Anthony Towns' wedding, with the Kylie Cosmetics mogul's attire also raising eyebrows. While Chalamet was criticized for seemingly ignoring the formal dress code – not the first time he has done so in his life! – Jenner was slammed for choosing a dress some deemed too risqué for the occasion. And the internet understandably let them have it!
The mom-of-two, 29, flaunted her curves in a vintage Roberto Cavalli 2004 halter dress with seriously risqué cutout detailing all over, as well as a thigh-high slit. It certainly wasn't for the faint-hearted! (Celine Dion wore a cream-colored version of the dress at the 2003 Billboard Music Awards, in case you're getting a case of déjà vu!)
But while her choice was deemed too risqué for a wedding, her boyfriend's attire was roasted even more online. It certainly wasn't for the faint-hearted! (Celine Dion wore a cream-colored version of the dress at the 2003 Billboard Music Awards, in case you're getting a case of déjà vu!)
But while her choice was deemed too risqué for a wedding, her boyfriend's attire was roasted even more online. Instead of going for a traditional suit or tux – men have it a lot easier, don't they?! – the Marty Supreme actor, 30, went for a black leather blazer, trousers, and a blue shirt, accessorized with black sunglasses. He also chose to forgo a tie, making him stand out from many of the other male guests, including Justin Bieber, who appeared to embrace the formal dress code.
"Timothée is honestly too much for me. Like you aren't too cool to wear a suit to someone ELSE'S wedding. Everyone else managed. Including Justin. Like dude, get real," slammed one Instagram user. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said Sunday night that rookie linebacker Bud Clark will miss months with a broken right ankle, while offensive lineman Mason Richman suffered his own "long-term injury" in the Seahawks' preseason loss to Tennessee.
"Two guys that we love, that play our style of ball, that are our type of guys," Macdonald said of Richman and Clark. "Teammates love 'em, great teammates, great guys, great football players. They have great futures. It's a heartbreaker, honestly. We've had three heartbreakers this week, which is tough."
Seahawks wide receiver Jake Bobo was carted off the field Friday from Seattle's joint practice with the ******* ans and was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Richman went down on the opening drive and was helped to the sideline after getting his right leg checked while laying down on the field. Macdonald said they have to figure out what the specific issue is, but he called it a "major injury, a long-term injury."
On Seattle's first defensive play, Clark broke his right ankle and Macdonald said he'll miss months. Trainers put his leg in an air cast, and players from both teams came up to the rookie before he was carted off the field. Clark was Seattle's second-round pick and 64th overall out of Texas Christian.

It has been quite a few months for Wyndham Clark and girlfriend, Emily Tanner, who revealed their relationship in style at the Masters. The couple "hard launched" their relationship in Augusta as Tanner served as Clark's caddie at the Masters Par 3 Contest.
PGA Tour golfers often select their significant others as the caddie for the annual event. Months later, it appears things have gotten serious for Clark and his girlfriend.
During the BMW Championship, Tanner announced that she plans to move from California. Clark's girlfriend hinted that she intends to move in with Clark.
"I cannot believe I'm about to say this, but I am moving," Tanner revealed in an Instagram video posted on August 20, 2026. "I have lived in California for the last five years and honestly, I never thought that I would leave here.
"I think one of the most special parts about falling in love is realizing that the life you've pictured for yourself can completely change when you find someone that you want to build it with," Tanner continued.

With the NFL roster cut deadline now just a week away, the New England Patriots' wide receiver competition is coming into focus.
The Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 Saturday night in their second of three preseason games, with rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams providing one of the biggest highlights of the night.
Williams hauled in a 69-yard touchdown reception, his second touchdown in as many preseason games, as he continues to make his case for a spot on the Patriots' final roster.
"Just being consistent honestly, that's all it is, is being consistent. You know, we have a great group of guys, it's always competition, just competitive, but it's friendly competition. **** ody gets mad at anybody and it's iron sharpens iron at the end of the day so I'm really glad to have this great group of guys," Williams said.
Head coach Mike Vrabel said the team wants to continue giving Williams opportunities to improve while evaluating the entire wide receiver group.

Yuki Tsunoda says Racing Bulls has been "pretty impressed" with the way he has adapted to Formula 1's 2026-spec machinery as he stands in for Liam Lawson at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Lawson got a call-up to Red Bull after Isack Hadjar injured his wrist over the summer break, hence Tsunoda's opportunity at Racing Bulls on a tricky sprint weekend in Zandvoort.
The 26-year-old was unfamiliar with the new generation of cars but has been getting closer and closer to impressive rookie team-mate Arvid Lindblad.
Tsunoda was 0.825s adrift of the Briton in the only free practice session, but brought his deficit down to 0.433s in SQ1 and 0.360s in SQ2, then 0.011s in Q1 and 0.102s in Q2, having finished the sprint race 11.5 seconds in arrears.
