When it comes to Cincinnati Bengals undrafted free agents, Seth McLaughlin was one of the more notable and liked by fans over the last few years.
No wonder. McLaughlin was very successful at the college level with Ohio State and, as a center, played a spot that is usually pretty needy on the interior of the offensive line in Cincinnati.
McLaughlin eventually worked his way back from injury as a rookie and landed on the practice squad. But this past January, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Detroit Lions.
Now he's the starter.
Thanks to an injury in front of him, McLaughlin is opening up at starting center in training camp ahead of Detroit's first preseason game and apparently faring pretty well.

As the IndyCar Series enters its closing stretch, Team Penske veteran Scott McLaughlin believes the key to aiding teammate David Malukas in his championship pursuit against points leader Alex Palou comes down to flawless execution and a collective team effort.
Malukas currently sits 83 points behind four-time and reigning series champion Palou in the overall standings, facing his first true ******* le fight in IndyCar. Drawing on his own championship experience, McLaughlin's advice is simple: ignore the points and focus on execution.
"Firstly, one race at a time for everybody," said McLaughlin, 33. "Just take it as it comes, especially in this series these days, how competitive it is."
While Malukas has battled for championships during his junior formula career, notably finishing runner-up to Kyle Kirkwood for the 2021 Indy NXT ******* le, an IndyCar ******* le fight presents a different level of pressure. McLaughlin, who has finished third in the IndyCar championship twice (2023-24), emphasized that building the composure needed for these moments takes time on track.

There is a growing demand for answers after a fatal ICE-involved shooting in Maine. According to an ICE spokesperson, the shooting happened when agents tried to conduct a traffic stop and, they say, the vehicle tried to get away. That's when ICE says an agent opened fire "fearing for public safety." The incident, which was partly captured on video, is the second fatal shooting involving ICE agents in the past week. Shams Charania: Free agent guard Jordan McLaughlin has agreed to a one-year, $3.3 million deal to return to the San Antonio Spurs, agent Greg Lawrence of THE•TEAM tells ESPN. McLaughlin appeared in 44 games for the Spurs last season and now enters his ninth campaign.

July 3 (Reuters) - Largest U.S. power grid operator PJM said ‌on Friday it was under ‌a federal alert to cut electricity consumption across its territory as it battled generator outages, massive overloading on its transmission lines and a surge in air conditioning use ‌from prolonged ⁠sweltering heat.
PJM said it told utilities to reduce electricity to customers ⁠who are under contract to reduce consumption during emergencies. PJM serves 67 million people in the Mid-Atlantic, South and Washington, ‌D.C., area.
Spot wholesale electricity prices in northern Virginia, home to the largest collection of data centers in the world, have surged beyond $2,000 per megawatt hour this ‌week. That compares to about $40 per MWh when PJM is not in distress.
The surge ‌in prices is mostly because it has become expensive to provide power across congested high-voltage power lines, according to industry ‌analysts and PJM's operations data.

A packed JetBlue plane landing at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport collided with a drone just moments before touching down. The flight landed without incident but minutes later, according to air traffic control audio, another JetBlue flight reported seeing a drone flying quite close. They join other local sports legends like Russell Westbrook, Jozy Altidore and Nik Bonito.
Oklahoma City's new professional soccer team is set to debut in the 2028 USL Championship. It will be the anchor tenant of the MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium in downtown OKC. Funded by the MAPS 4 initiative, the venue serves as the centerpiece of Echo's real estate development, integrating sports, entertainment and education. The stadium broke ground in June 2026 and will open in 2028. The club's name, colors and branding will be unveiled later this year.
On the Thunder for four seasons, Williams has ascended into one of the NBA's top players. The 25-year-old is a one-time All-NBA selection with All-Star and All-Defense also on his resume. Starting a five-year, $239.3 million contract extension this upcoming season, he figures to play his best hoops in OKC as it tries to bring home more rings and banners.

Broncos Wire's 91-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at fifth-year* running back Tyler Badie, No. 28. (Note: The NFL lists Badie as a third-year player because he only has two accrued seasons of at least six games, but he's been in the league for four years.)
Before the Broncos: Badie (5-8, 197 pounds) was originally a sixth-round selection (196th overall) by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2022 NFL draft, before being signed off the Ravens' practice squad by the Denver Broncos late in his rookie season. Before playing in the NFL, Badie went to Missouri in the SEC. Badie had his best collegiate year for the Tigers in 2021, where he led the conference in rushing yards (1,604 yards), rushing touchdowns (14) and total touchdowns (18).
Broncos tenure: Badie appeared in one game with Denver in 2022, scoring on a 24-yard touchdown catch on his first career touch. After that, he spent the entire 2023 season on the Broncos' practice squad. Badie rushed 11 times for 84 yards through the first three games of the 2024 season before suffering a scary back injury that ended his season. Last summer, Badie beat out Jaleel McLaughlin for RB3 duties. Playing behind J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey, Badie totaled 19 receptions for 141 yards and rushed eight times for 23 yards, playing primarily on third downs.
Chances to make the 53-man roster: Toss-up. With the first three spots on the Broncos' roster locked up in Dobbins, Harvey and rookie Jonah Coleman, Badie could find himself as the odd man out, competing with Jaleel McLaughlin for the fourth spot. Badie's chances of making the 53-man roster might depend on how many running backs Denver carries on the active roster in 2026.

Aaron Boone was working out of his office at Yankee Stadium when pitching coach Matt Blake relayed the biggest news of the Bombers’ offseason.
“Cody’s back,” Blake told Boone and staffer Ryan McLaughlin, who was also on the scene.
Boone responded with excitement, as the Yankees had come to terms with a player who had posted a 125 wRC+ and a 4.9 fWAR for them in 2025.
Blake, of course, was referring to Cody Bellinger, whose prolonged free agency unofficially came to an end on Jan. 21. After months of offers, stalemates and concessions, Boone called the Scott Boras-backed outfielder — who had been ignoring the manager’s texts toward the end of negotiations — to congratulate him on his new five-year, $162.5 million, option-heavy deal with the Yankees.

DHS confirms it has body-cam video in shooting of Alex Pretti

Investigators are reviewing body-camera videos from immigration agents in the fatal shooting of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.
Homeland Security investigators have videos recorded by cameras worn by multiple agents, department spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said.
The agents involved in the Pretti shooting were part of the Border Patrol Tactical Unit, a specialized force, McLaughlin said. Two law enforcement officials told NBC News that unit has more body-worn cameras.
