However, Sunday's 34-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars sparked anger and disappointment for several reasons, chief among them Deshaun Watson's role as starting quarterback.

Wide receiver Hollywood Brown was active for Sunday's game, but the veteran never got on the field during the Eagles' 24-22 win over the Commanders.
DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks started for the Eagles with first-round pick Makai Lemon and Darius Cooper also seeing time on offense. At a Monday press conference, head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about how Brown fits into the team's plans.
"So, with yesterday, you know, we have our rotations that we're doing, you know, Hollywood could obviously help us," Sirianni said, via Brooks Kubena of TheAthletic.com. "We obviously want to get him into the football game because his speed is real. It just didn't work out that way yesterday. There are games like that. There are games where you get shut out on catches. Unfortunately, there are games, they get shut out on reps. But we know that Hollywood can help us win football games, and his speed is real, and, quite frankly, just from my end, we want to get him into the football game, right? And so, you know, we'll make a better effort to do that next time, 'cause I know the playmaking ability that he can bring with his speed. But was pleased with how the wideouts played as a whole. Of course, there were things that you want back. They made a lot of plays down the field — and with different things with their job description. On Friday afternoon, the Traveling CELSIUS Combine and the CELSIUS-led Run Clubs touched down on the South Mall by the UT Tower.
The CELSIUS Combine included a "racing the reaction wall" coordination test, a pull-up challenge, a vertical jump challenge, and a passing accuracy challenge. The run club group took off for a 5K run in downtown Austin.

Seven teams started district play, with three teams getting their first district win. Pine Forest went back-and-forth with Williamson, MaxPreps No. 1 4A team in Alabama, while Pace and Pensacola Catholic bounced back with wins after tough losses in Week 3.

The Virginia Cavaliers did not mess around on Friday night, taking care of Norfolk State, 59-3. As expected, the 'Hoos overmatched the Spartans for 60 minutes, allowing all sorts of reserves to get live reps in the second half.
Three different UVA quarterbacks threw touchdown passes. Beau Pribula, who played the first two quarters, was once again ultra efficient, throwing for 162 yards on 12-of-14 passing with three touchdowns. Of note, Pribula did not have a single designed rushing attempt; offensive coordinator Des Kitchings chose to keep him upright and allow him to sling the rock from the pocket instead.
Backups Eli Holstein and Cole Geer ultimately had limited passing attempts, but both had one impressive throw to build on. Holstein opened the second half with a beautiful goal line fade to Ty'Lyric Coleman in the back corner of the end zone, while Geer found high school teammate Williem Thurber on a tight window up the seam for 28 yards in the fourth.
At the skill positions, wide receiver Jacquon Gibson got himself on the board with two touchdown catches from Pribula, after failing to reach the end zone a single time with UMass in 2025. Meanwhile, sophomore Xay Davis showcased his burst out of the backfield, totaling 107 ticks on 13 attempts.
On the defensive end, Kam Robinson made his way back to the field (in a limited capacity), a welcomed sight for the Cavalier faithful. The Red Devils' 20-12 loss to the Bears on Friday, Sept. 11, ended their 62-game winning streak that dates back to November 2022 when they lost to Auburn High School in the state quarterfinals during their first official season.
"If we lose a game or two or three or whatever, the goal is to be challenged in the regular season," head coach Mitchell Holt told USA TODAY Sports ahead of the season. "So, then we get to the postseason, we know what we're made of."
After years of winning, Central finally had the chance to face off against some out-of-state competition. Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Falcons will start Cooper Rush in place of injured quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in their season opener, they announced Friday.
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Jack Strand will be the Falcons' second string quarterback for the matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
"He's a very competitive person, so disappointed," Stefanski told reporters, when asked about Tagovailoa. "But he's going to rally behind Coop and do everything he can to help Coop."
Rush took all of the Falcons' first-team offensive reps Thursday and continued to lead passing drills at Friday's practice session. The veteran quarterback threw for 303 yards, with no touchdowns and four interceptions, over four appearances last season for the Baltimore Ravens.
Rush completed 61.1% of his throws for 3,766 yards, 20 scores and 14 interceptions over the first 42 appearances of his NFL career. He started 16 times during that span.

At the beginning of the week, Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell dropped an interesting update that the left guard position was still up for grabs in the lead up to the team's season opener against the New Orleans Saints. Incumbent Christian Mahogany and free agent addition Ben Bartch were to split reps in practice all week, and Campbell even said he'd consider rotating the two in the game if a leader hadn't emerged in the competition.
But on Friday, Campbell gave a little clarity on the situation, suggesting that Mahogany will start on Sunday.
"I don't know. It's a good question. I'm still thinking about that. There's probably a good chance Mahogany starts," Campbell said.
Now, of course, who starts the game and who finishes it could very different. Campbell's comments are vague enough to suggest that the guard rotation could continue and/or Mahogany could be on a short leash. He could even change his mind before Sunday. Campbell did note that both players have played well in the two practices thus far this week.

San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle had two receptions for 12 yards in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams. Kittle was targeted five times.

The Huskies had flip-flopped with Bear River for the top-spot in Sac-Joaquin Section Division V and lead the Bruins by .13 one-hundredths of a ratings point entering Thursday's MaxPreps rankings drop. Computerized rankings help fill out at-large berths and final playoff positioning for all 16-team brackets in October, according to SJS playoff criteria.
No. 1 Sutter entered the week with the first of its two home Golden Empire League matches Tuesday night against El Camino, a rather routine straight-set (25-14, 25-9, 25-14) sweep for Sutter to move to 1-0 in league and 18-5 overall.

The Kardashian family has become deeply intertwined with sports. One of the younger sisters, Kendall Jenner, was featured in a viral Super Bowl ad this year, and another, and Kim Kardashian, arguably the face of the family, has been romantically linked to athletes such as NBA player Kris Humphries, as well as NFL stars Reggie Bush and Odell Beckham Jr, and is currently dating F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton.
Now, Kardashian is deepening her inroads in the sports community, as she'll be an executive producer for Team Moms: Baseball, a reality TV series focusing on the parents of the Legendary Preps Academy baseball team in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"These families are passionate, competitive, and completely all in when it comes to their kids—and sometimes what happens in the stands is just as intense as what happens on the field," Kardashian and executive producer Natalie Ento said of the show, per Deadline. "That's what makes Team Moms: Baseball so much fun to watch."
On Wednesday, the first trailer for the show was released.

The week begins with not one, but two Thursday night games…and neither are at Citizens Field. One involves Buchholz opening district play in Marion County vs. West Port. The other is, simply put, the biggest game of the season as Miami-Northwestern makes the trip from Dade County to eastern Alachua County.
Friday sees district play begin for Columbia, Eastside and Gainesville High. For the Tigers, the objective is to keep the momentum going. For the Hurricanes and Rams, it's to pick up their first win of the season.

The Falcons' plan to start Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback against the Steelers on Sunday may have changed on Thursday.
Reporters at the open portion of practice shared that Tagovailoa appeared to hurt his back at one point and that he did not throw any more passes before the team closed the session to outside eyes. It doesn't sound like he did much work over the rest of the session either.
Cooper Rush told reporters that he took all of the first-team reps during practice. Rush was set to be the backup against Pittsburgh as Michael Penix is going to be inactive for the opening game of the season.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski is scheduled to speak to reporters on Friday and he could deliver the news that Tagovailoa's run as the starter in Atlanta is over before it even started.

But after managing line rotations on multiple occasions during his three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, the Detroit Lions' first-year offensive coordinator said a left guard rotation like the one the Lions could use Sunday against the New Orleans Saints (1 p.m., Fox) could benefit the team.
"I think the reality of the NFL ... is sometimes the best thing for the team is not to [have one lineman take all the snaps]," Petzing said. "And it's an opportunity for those guys to continue to compete and earn their reps and to help this team win games. So looking forward to seeing whatever that ends up looking like one way or the other kind of play out on Sunday."

"Yeah, we could," Campbell said. "[Tuesday] they're going to split. I see them splitting on Thursday, I see them splitting on Friday, and then if nothing's been decided by then, then maybe they both play."
Mahogany started 11 games at left guard for the Lions last season and handled most of the first-team reps at the position this summer, while Bartch was recovering from injuries.
Bartch underwent Lisfranc surgery last year while playing for the San Francisco 49ers and missed time with a concussion in training camp.
Campbell praised Bartch's play in camp but said Aug. 20 he did not think there was enough time for Bartch to win the starting job. The Lions signed Bartch this offseason with thoughts of having an open competition at left guard.

The three-time MVP was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Monday night, an off day for the Yankees. They open a three-game series at home Tuesday night against the Colorado Rockies.
Judge hasn't played since May 31 because of a broken right rib, but the slugger traveled with the Yankees on their recent trip to the West Coast. He took batting practice on the field multiple times last weekend in San Diego and ran the bases as he worked toward his return.
The outfielder will rejoin New York's active roster without going on a minor league rehab ******* ignment first. Throughout his absence, Judge said he wouldn't need a stint in the minors to get ready.
"If I tell them I'm ready to go play, I think we're ready to go play," Judge said on Aug. 27. "I'm not a pitcher. I'm a position player. I can get my reps down here in the cage. I'm in every game. I'm sitting there in the dugout watching every game, feeling the environment, feeling the energy, so I don't think there's going to be much of a difference."
