New York Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter is already making his presence felt at training camp—not just with his athleticism, but with his confidence and competitive fire.
During Thursday's practice at the Sports Performance Center at The Greenbrier, Carter delivered one of his most impressive performances yet against All-Pro left tackle Andrew Thomas. The explosive defender consistently showcased the speed, bend, and burst that made him one of the top defensive prospects in the NFL Draft, even winning several reps against one of the league's premier offensive linemen.
As expected, Carter celebrated his success with plenty of trash talk, letting Thomas—and everyone within earshot—know about it.
But if Carter was hoping to get a reaction, he picked the wrong opponent.

Major League Baseball's trade deadline is just a few days away. On Monday, August 3rd at 4:00 PM MT, the Colorado Rockies will hopefully have had one of their most active deadlines in recent memory.
With a new front office helmed by president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta and general manager Josh Byrnes, it has been indicated that the Rockies are open for business. Many players–especially veterans and those on expiring contracts–have been designated as available and are even reportedly drawing interest from teams throughout the league.
The Rockies made their first trade last week to signal the start of the trade season. Right-handed reliever Seth Halvorsen was sent in a surprising and rare trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for two prospects. Last season, the Rockies similarly made their first big move before the deadline. However, under former general manager Bill Schmidt they ended up making just three total trades. Let's take a look back at those trades and see where the bar sits for this season's deadline.
In the week preceding last year's deadline, the Rockies signaled change might be coming when they dealt long-time third baseman and face of the franchise Ryan McMahon to the New York Yankees in exchange for pitching prospects Josh Grosz and Griffin Herring.
Grosz showed off his strikeout stuff in High-A Spokane to finish the 2025 season with 41 strikeouts in 38.1 innings. However, he struggled with his command and ended the season with a 5.87 ERA. The Rockies' new front office then traded Grosz this off-season to the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Jake McCarthy. McCarthy has in turn become one of the Rockies' most valuable contributors and is now potentially on the market t be traded again within the next few days.

Jul. 30—Gonzaga's home opener against New Mexico State doesn't project to be one of the most compelling games on the team's nonconference calendar, but it just became significantly more important.
The Zags are set to host one of the top guard prospects in the recruiting class of 2027, Bremerton High's Jalen Davis, when they welcome the Aggies for the Nov. 7 game at McCarthey Athletic Center.
A 6-foot-3, 165-pound combo guard, Davis is taking four other official visits before closing his recruiting tour with a stop in Spokane, according to Brandon Jenkins of 247Sports.com.
Davis doesn't have dates scheduled for visits to Stanford and Ole Miss, but plans to see both schools in September, according to 247Sports. The top-rated prospect in Washington then will visit Iowa on Oct. 3 and UCLA on Oct. 16 before making the cross-state trip to Gonzaga for his only visit in November. Davis has already taken one official visit, making the short drive to Seattle to tour Washington's campus during a home football weekend.
Each of the three major recruiting services — On3/Rivals, 247Sports and ESPN — consider Davis the top-rated prospect in Washington and one of the nation's top five combo guards. According to 247Sports, he's the third-rated combo guard in the class of 2027 and the 16th-rated player in the country.

The Buffalo Bills wasted no time in trying to fill the roster spot vacated by veteran wide receiver Jalen Virgil. With the team already losing wide receiver Tyrell Shavers to the Active/PUP list, waiving Virgil with a non-football injury (NFI) designation paved the way for the team to host several receiver prospects on Thursday, July 30.
Among those tryouts was wide receiver Dante Pettis, who ultimately signed a deal with Buffalo after Thursday's session at St. John Fisher University. Pettis, who turns 31 at the end of October, is a seven-year NFL veteran who until now spent his time exclusively in NFC.
The 6' 1", 200-pound Pettis originally entered the NFL as a second-round (44th overall) pick of the San Francisco 49ers during the 2018 NFL Draft. He made a meaningful impact as a rookie, catching 27 passes (45 attempts) for 467 yards and five touchdowns (per Pro Football Reference). Pettis was waived during his third season with the Niners, ultimately landing with the New York Giants, where he remained through the 2021 NFL season.
Pettis signed on with the Chicago Bears for the 2022 season, seeing his most significant involvement and production since that promising rookie campaign, catching 19 passes (41 targets) for 245 yards and three touchdowns; adding two rushers for 37 yards with the Bears.
Pettis also brings a bit to the table as a passer, having attempted and completed one pass for 16 yards each with the Niners (2019) and Giants (2021).

Clemson is officially on the board in the 2028 recruiting cycle.
The Tigers picked up their first commitment in the class on Thursday when four-star quarterback Trace Hawkins announced he will continue his career at Clemson. The Calhoun, Georgia native selected the Tigers over a group of finalists that included LSU, Duke, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt after building a strong relationship with the coaching staff throughout the recruiting process.
Landing Hawkins gives Clemson an early foundation for the class, with the talented passer becoming the first player to publicly pledge to the Tigers for 2028. Quarterback has been a priority position for the staff, and Hawkins emerged as one of the top prospects on Clemson's board after several visits to campus over the last year.
His first trip came during the 2024 season, and he made multiple return visits this spring. Hawkins attended Clemson's spring game, participated in the program's Elite Day event and later returned for Dabo Swinney's high school camp in June. Those visits allowed the coaching staff to evaluate him in person while giving Hawkins plenty of opportunities to become comfortable with the program.
The 6-foot-1 signal caller is coming off an outstanding sophomore campaign at Calhoun High School. He completed the season with 2,442 passing yards and 24 touchdown throws while being intercepted only three times. Hawkins also made an impact on the ground, adding three rushing touchdowns.

When the Twins selected him with the 16th overall pick last July, Marek Houston was seen by most scouts as a lock to stick shortstop with elite defensive talent, but a fringy bat that projects for below average production in the major leagues. Just 27 games into his Double-A tenure, Houston is already producing offense at a high level, boasting a .325 batting average with a 135 wRC+. As he begins to pop up on top 100 prospect lists, there is a growing belief that his bat has a chance to provide some real impact for the Twins.
Standing at 6'3", Marek is a twitchy and fluid athlete. He is a plus runner, nabbing 38 bags so far this season while being caught just 4 times. He has an excellent approach at the plate. Very patient hitter who is running a chase rate around 17% this season with above-average walk rates. His swing mechanics have remained largely unchanged from his time at Wake Forest. The pre-swing hand load and leg kick is a little loud, but he breaks it down with 2 strikes, which has helped him limit strikeouts and put together mature at-bats despite posting average zone contact rates. His raw power is below average, but Houston has continued to tap into more and more juice as the season has gone on. There is quality gap power if he can consistently elevate the ball.
While the offensive ceiling is still limited, any doubt that Marek Houston may not have a major league caliber bat is effectively gone. If he doesn't tap into any more power, his profile is similar to that of Austin Martin or Luke Keaschall, a patient hitter who makes a lot of contact and provides value on the bases. While these guys don't hit for much power and have middling offensive numbers, they do more for the offense than the stats show. Combining that with plus defense at the shortstop position makes for an extremely valuable player and a guy who will find a way to make a positive impact on every game.
Marek Houston is squarely on track for a 2027 debut with an outside chance of making his way onto the opening day roster. He looks like a perfect fit for the Twins as a long-term solution at the shortstop position, where the team's -15 FRV since the start of 2025 ranks 28th in MLB. While he doesn't have a dynamite bat like Walker Jenkins or Emmanuel Rodriguez, Houston is worth getting excited about as one of the system's top prospects and arguably the prospect with the highest chance to be a productive big leaguer. He has been a Minnesota Twin for just over 12 months, but fans won't have to wait much longer to see him suited up at Target Field.

It's not officially official, but it sounds like Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is going to be dealt by the end of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. And that makes all the sense in the world for everyone -- the Tigers don't look like World Series contenders and they're not going to give the left-hander the kind of massive long-term contract he's earned.
So who could land the two-time Cy Young winner who currently sports a 2.79 ERA with 116 Ks in 96.2 innings? That's the question we all want to know the answer to as the bidding heats up. Let's run through some names of teams who would love to add Skubal and instantly change their fortunes with a top starting pitcher:
You could roll your eyes at the fact that the Dodgers are reportedly in yet again on a big name, but it makes sense -- Shohei Ohtani may not pitch for a while and their rotation isn't the strongest at the moment. Plus, they've got a ton of big-name prospects to deal to the Tigers.
Another team with a lot of intriguing prospects and young pitching talent... but there's risk there if the Brew Crew doesn't win a World Series with Skubal and he leaves in free agency.
Feels like they've got a playoff spot on lock, so getting Skubal would be helpful for the postseason.

Tarik Skubal came off the mound in the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon and the crowd at Comerica Park got up, just in case. It was the two-time reigning Cy Young winner's final start before the MLB trade deadline on Monday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. ET.
He and the 34,406 fans in the ballpark knew that could be his last one in a Tigers' uniform.
With five days left until the deadline, this is what the market has been waiting for. Skubal is the biggest name out there and he's headed for free agency after this season. Reports have rival executives believing the Tigers want to move him for a boatload of prospects.
Detroit's collapse, losing a seven-run lead and the game Wednesday, makes that even more realistic. The Tigers dropped to 51-58 and four games out of the final American League wild card spot.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff are close to wrapping up the No. 1-ranked 2027 recruiting class, and as soon as the 2026 season kicks off against Missouri State on Saturday, Sept. 5, the 2028 recruiting class will become the focus, but won't include five-star cornerback A'mir Sears, who reclassified to the 2027 cycle and will announce his commitment on Friday.
Last week, it was revealed that two Aggie legacies in the 2028 class received predictions to land with Texas A&M, as four-star running back Ian Thomas and four-star wide receiver and track star Dillon Mitchell descend from two former A&M starters in the 1990s.
On Wednesday, On3 insider Sam Speigelman released his latest set of predictions for 19 prospects in the 2028 class, with Dillon Mitchell receiving a 75% confidence level from Speigelman to commit to the Aggies. Even more impressive, Texas A&M is listed as the "biggest threat" to secure commitments from four-star OT Jai'storm Knight, four-star athlete CJ Whaley, four-star DL Logan Lokey, four-star Edge Braydon Robinson, and three-star CB Kameron Grisby.
None of this is surprising given Mike Elko's success in the 2027 cycle, building strong and lasting relationships with all 26 commitments, with nearly half shutting down their recruitments this summer.
After a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft back in late April, Elko further proved his ability to develop players to reach their NFL potential at nearly every position, and you can be sure every current high school prospect will be paying attention if Elko continues to send double-digit recruits and transfer additions to the league.

US tech stocks regained their footing on Tuesday as a sell-off in chip stocks underscored concerns about AI circular financing deals, countering a drop in oil prices and earnings optimism.
The Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) bounced back from earlier losses to hover near the flat line. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose nearly 0.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) climbed 1.2% as investors weighed the latest quarterly results.
Stocks generally moved higher as the earnings deluge continued. Boeing (BA), PayPal (PYPL), and Coca-Cola (KO) all rose after reporting results, with Coca-Cola stock on track for its best day since 2009. Investors will be watching SK Hynix's results due around 8 p.m. ET for insight into the memory trade as AI worries swirl.
That helped offset souring sentiment in the chip sector amid reports that Nvidia (NVDA) is exploring a $250 billion funding backstop for OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), further intertwining the two companies and heightening worries about circular financing. Tech traders also grew nervous that Chinese competition is narrowing the AI gap with US companies, undermining prospects for a payoff.

The Atlanta Braves made the ultra-aggressive move to promote their star infield prospect Tate Southisene to Double-A at the age of 19 after just 104 professional games, but his run with the Clingstones is going to have an unfortunate interruption. In the second inning of his debut on Tuesday night Southisene was hit in the wrist by an errant sinker up-and-in, and while he initially remained in the game to run the bases he was pulled in between innings. The Columbus Clingstones announced that the Braves 2025 first round pick, who received a $2,622,500 signing bonus last summer, would be placed on the injured list, halting his meteoric rise through Atlanta's ranks.
Southisene has been nothing short of phenomenal in his first full season of professional baseball, with a 139 wRC+ split across Single-A Augusta and High-A Rome. He spent most of the season in Single-A, where he hit .297/.429/.500 with eight home runs and 36 stolen bases in 51 games, before what was seen as an aggressive call up to High-A in early June. Southisene took about a series to adjust to High-A pitching before going on a rampage and hitting .272/.393/.456 over his final 30 games in High-A. His power numbers did take a dip, but his ability to work deep counts and recognize the strike zone is years ahead of the typical 19-year-old and that approach is what gave the Braves confidence he could succeed in Double-A. Southisene is starting to get top 100 looks nationally, and though his ultimate defensive home is still up in the air he is seen as one of the best position player prospects in recent seasons for the Braves and a player who projects to being at least a solid major league regular.

Amy Winehouse's father must pay just under £1m to two of his daughter's friends after a failed High Court claim over the auctioning of the late singer's items.
Mitch Winehouse also racked up at least £950,000 in his own legal costs in the failed attempt against Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay.
He claimed the women had profited from selling dozens of his daughter's items at auctions in the US in 2021 and 2023, accusing them of having "deliberately concealed" their sale.
But Ms Justice Clarke threw out the claim earlier this year, finding that he "knew all along" about the intended sale and only afterwards had begun to pursue them for money in an "aggressive and unpleasant way".
In a judgment on Wednesday, she said: "The claimant chose to bring an inherently weak claim, pursue it aggressively and relentlessly to the end, and make serious and unfounded allegations against the defendants which significantly damaged their reputations, career prospects, financial security and health."

The NFL Players ******* ociation has investigated the circumstances surrounding the recent ACL tear suffered by Panthers linebacker Nic Scourton. And the NFLPA has concluded that the Panthers did nothing wrong.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the NFLPA has reviewed the video of the injury. It confirmed the preliminary conclusion that it was simply an unfortunate injury.
The issue became a proper subject of curiosity given the negotiated limits of the five-day acclimation period. Among other things, it mandates no contact during practice.
Ultimately, it's one of the basic realities of training camp. A season-ending injury can happen at any time, to any player. And any one injury could potentially alter a team's prospects for the season.
Depending on the player and the team, it could alter the entire landscape of the coming season.

We've never seen Indiana football recruit at the level it's been lately.
The Hoosiers have had moments where they've reigned in highly-rated high school prospects, but they've been few and far between. They've never had a five-star commit, as happened when Monshun Sales announced his decision earlier this month. Nor have they ever landed one of the nation's top quarterback prospects, as happened when Lukas Prock did the same not long after. Sales and Prock are No. 1 and No. 2 in 247Sports' list of all-time Indiana commits.
With all of this in mind, we asked Indiana football fans how they felt about recruiting moving forward. There were responses that indicated a lack of optimism, but no respondents chose them.
Indiana fans, of course, have reason to be optimistic. Curt Cignetti and the rest of the Hoosiers' staff are coming off of the first national ******* le in program history and won it without a single 5-star on the roster, developing several other prospects into high-level contributors over time.
The Hoosiers enter the 2026 season with a similar build as former James Madison and Tom Allen Indiana players exhaust their eligibility and the roster is bolstered through the transfer portal and development of past recruits. Indiana sits at +950 to repeat as national champions, per FanDuel Sportsbook.

With the Major League Baseball trade deadline coming up Aug. 3, the Milwaukee Brewers are sitting in an obvious playoff spot, have a loaded farm system and would theoretically be players for some of the top names seemingly available on the trade market.
But can we really expect 2026 to look different from other trade deadlines?
Count Mark Feinsand of MLB.com among those who believe the Brewers will indeed be "aggressive" at the deadline, but what does that look like?
ESPN writer Jeff Passan put together "10 blockbuster deals that would rock the trade deadline" and arranged two deals involving a superstar going to Milwaukee. They would certainly count as aggressive.
Passan first proposed a deal that sends Detroit Tigers star left-hander Tarik Skubal to the Brewers for right-hander Logan Henderson, left fielder Josh Adamczewski and infielder Ricki Moneys. The latter two are among the more intriguing prospects in the Brewers organization, and Henderson is just graduating from prospect status into reliable major-league starter.

Bumila is one of 34 MLB prospects added to the game as part of its draft card series, which dropped on the game on July 11. The left-handed pitcher can be pulled in one of the 2026 MLB Draft virtual card packs in Diamond Dynasty mode, in which players can build teams by collecting player cards of active and former players to face off against other players' custom-built teams or the computer in a variety of game modes from full games to situations to tournaments and mini seasons.
The former University of Texas commit is joined by fellow Rangers draft pick and LHP Gio Rojas in the card series, who was introduced along ***** ila and second round pick Connor Comeau during a press conference on Tuesday, July 21.
Bumila comes in rated as a 96 overall. He has a maximum value of 99 in both velocity and break as well as a 90 in arm strength, 95 in durability and 78 in control.

There is really nothing like the trade deadline in MLB. Yes, other leagues have an in-season deadline, and it can be a season defining moment for those leagues as well, but in Major League Baseball the ripple effect of a deadline deal could last for a decade or more. Teams at the deadline are basically debating between their ability to win a championship in the next two years vs. five years down the road.
Those are the stakes for every trade involving an All-Star level talent. But this year has at least the possibility of a trade that would hit the league like a tornado. The Detroit Tigers are currently 50-57, six games back in the A.L. Central and four games out of the Wild Card. Far from insurmountable, but with the amount of teams in their way it would be a heavy lift. It's been a letdown season for the Tigers who had World Series aspirations. Now they are faced with an organization defining decision. Should they trade arguably the best pitcher in baseball?
Tarik Skubal is a two-time Cy Young winner who is still four months away from turning 30-years old. He could, if healthy, be in his prime for at least another five seasons. That's five seasons of an ace who can lead a team through the postseason. That kind of pitcher isn't often available, and any trade would require an absolute haul of prospects and young talent in return. It would take an all-in move by a team ready to win now and not worried about depleting their Minor League organization.
On the other side of the coin, the Tigers aren't a team that looks to be in desperate need of a rebuild just yet. There is plenty of talent on that team in a division that feels gettable in the near future. But with the uncertainty looming next season, maybe the time is right to cash in?

I broke down the 2027 scouting classes in my early summer scouting series, and the room has a ton of potential with a long list of potential standout players. I broke down the offense and defense in articles and I suggest reading those for a broad aspect of the room. Brock Bowers remains an elite tight end, and arguably the best in the NFL, but the Raiders do have some questions behind Bowers after the 2026 season. Former 2nd rounder Michael Mayer is sent to be a free agent, and with a good season he should be looking at a decent contract as a TE2, blocking specialist. Additionally, Ian Thomas is set to be a free agent and Las Vegas also has former UDFA Carter Runyon, who's flashed, but it's likely even with retaining Mayer the Raiders should add another TE.
These rankings are extremely early, and they will evolve over not only the summer but the next 8-10 months throughout the season, and into draft season. Some lists will feature 10, 15, 20, or more ranked prospects but I'll include others on the list below to note.
Jamari Johnson, Oregon – 6'5/260, R-So
Johnson was a key focal point of the Ducks offense last year with 32 receptions, 510 yards, and 3 TD after coming over from Louisville. He's better than Kenyon Sadiq, and in my opinion has a chance to be a better prospect than Bowers. Johnson has absurd movement skills, he's shown exceptional length, fires off the ball, and Johnson also shows a ton of quickness and movement in his route running. Johnson has fluid hips, he makes his cuts well, and Johnson shows an innate ability to adjust to the ball in the air and come down with tough catches. Where he makes a ton of impact is as a run blocker, where Johnson uses his length and athleticism with good technique, and a ton of lower body power to get off the line of scrimmage and into ***** e. Johnson will need to continue his play as the starter at TE, instead of the supplementary piece, but he has the core traits, athleticism, and technique to be a top 10 pick.

Evan Williams is one of the Green Bay Packers' biggest draft success stories in recent times as a fourth-round pick who had an impact on their defense almost immediately as a rookie and has since settled in as a valued starter.
Not one of the more heralded draft prospects, the Packers traded up to get Williams back in 2024 and were proven right in their conviction on the former Oregon and Fresno State safety.
After a strong first year, Williams followed it up in 2025, as shown by his percentile ranks at the safety position in his first and second seasons.
Williams only started seven games as a rookie, as he was originally behind Javon Bullard, before he made the move to the slot. From there, Williams never gave up the starting safety spot opposite Xavier McKinney, starting all but one game in 2025.
His snap count almost doubled from 533 to 979 between his first and second year, and even with the larger workload, there was no dip in Williams' performance.

The defensive line is often plentiful with blue-chip prospects. The 2027 recruiting cycle features 44 four and five-stars at the position, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
That's the most blue-chip DLs in a class since the 2023 cycle. Of those 44 D-linemen, all are committed, as of July 28, and they've dispersed among 29 schools.

Oil prices, meanwhile, continued to retreat after the US and Iran halted active fighting and President Trump said the two sides were in diplomatic talks. "There's a good chance that something could happen, and if it does, good," Trump said aboard Air Force One on Monday. "If it doesn't, we go back to doing what we were doing."

Newcastle United have walked out of the race to sign Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie (20) with their Premier League rivals Sunderland AFC now the clear favourites to sign the France U21 international, according to The Guardian. The Black Cats, who are set to compete in the UEFA Europa League next season, have already secured an agreement on personal terms with Methalie over a five-year contract, as reported yesterday by RMC.
The 20-year-old is billed as one of the best French prospects in the left-back role, with a senior France bow expected in a few years with Lucas Digne and Théo Hernandez entering the twilight of their career. Methalie has been extensively scouted by Eddie Howe's Magpies, but the latter have opted against submitting a bid this summer. Aston Villa also enquired about the Toulouse left-back.
