You might not be impressed by a stock with a 2% dividend yield as long-term interest rates have been rising quickly in the bond market. But a screen of the S&P 500 shows that companies that have raised their payouts the most have tended to be strong overall performers for long-term investors.

The Boston Celtics have reportedly signed Devin Carter to a training camp deal, per HoopsHype's Michael Scotto. Carter, 24, will have the opportunity to either earn a spot on Boston's main NBA roster or to join Amari Williams and Dillon Mitchell as one of the Celtics' three two-way talents. Should he sign a two-way deal, he would be expected to spend the majority of the season with the Maine Celtics. Still, it's fair to ******* ume he'd get a chance to impress with the NBA roster at some point, too.
Unfortunately, the decision to sign Carter doesn't come without a potential roster casualty. Milos Uzan has been with the Celtics since signing an Exhibit 10 contract earlier this summer. Uzan instantly impressed when suiting up for the Celtics during Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4 ******* ists per game, shooting 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 38.1 percent from the field.
Following John Tonje's decision to join the Portland Trail Blazers on a two-way deal earlier in the offseason, the path for Uzan to earn the final two-way spot with the Celtics appeared wide open. Sure, he'd have to impress during training camp and beat out Tucker DeVries, but given Boston's need for a depth piece at guard, everything seemed to be lining up.
Now, with Carter also in the mix, Uzan is facing a far tougher battle to prove himself and earn a two-way spot with the Celtics. Uzan is a talented young guard and should have no problem finding a home in the coming months if things do not go his way.
Hopefully, he remains in Maine regardless of whether he gets a two-way deal. After all, he could still work with the Celtics' developmental staff and potentially prove the front office wrong for signing Carter, should that come to pass. Of course, Uzan will likely draw interest from elsewhere if Carter does beat Uzan to the Celtics' final two-way spot, and unfortunately for Uzan, that's just part of trying to make it in the NBA.

Liam Brady signed the Dublin born winger from Bangor, having been impressed with his terrific form with the Northern Irish side. Form that saw him scoop each of the club's four player of the year awards in a season they won the domestic cup, with Paul himself scoring in the final.
Paul had started his professional career in England with Oxford United, but his time at the U's was by all accounts a disaster, so he decided to up-sticks, and head back nearer to home in a bid to reinvent himself.
It worked, as he was soon a Celtic player, the stuff of dreams for any Dublin youngster, especially with Irish legend Brady in charge of the Hoops, and despite the club being in turmoil on and off the park, it was great honour and opportunity for the 20 year old Byrne.

Discussing what he saw from De Paula's debut against the Miami Marlins, Roberts noted that he was really impressed with the 21-year-old's pitch selection, as he looked like a professional hitter despite his inexperience.
"I was very impressed. I'm not sure or certain 100%, but I don't think he swung at a ball out of the hitting zone, and so that's really impressive," Roberts said. "So to offer at ***** in the strike zone, not chase at all, earn a walk, get behind and line the ball to left field, get count leverage, hit a ball hard to the first baseman, I thought it was a fantastic night for him."

Both the Steelers and the Falcons have new coaching staffs heading into Week 1. It's safe to say both franchises will be looking to start their new era off on the right foot with a victory. I spoke with Kevin Knight of The Falcoholic to learn a bit about what's new with the Atlanta Falcons.
Kevin Knight: Well, now even Tua Tagovailoa is out of the lineup thanks to an oblique injury suffered during individual drills on Thursday. That means Cooper Rush at the helm (who, in truth, may not be any worse than Tua based on the aforementioned preseason). What you're going to see is a lot of quick game, and as much Bijan Robinson as the team can muster. If Atlanta can run the ball well and get Bijan going, they can score points. So that'll be the plan, with the passing game largely taking a complementary role until Michael Penix Jr. returns.
Kevin Knight: This is a good defense that will have to find ways to manufacture pass rush. Thankfully, Jeff Ulbrich is an evil genius with his blitz packages, and he's got a lot of interesting looks planned. Expect to see a lot of linebacker and slot blitzes to supplement their weaker edge rusher room, along with a lot of emphasis on interior pass rush. Atlanta has a really nice interior duo with Brandon Dorlus (who was leading all interior defensive linemen in the NFC with 8.5 sacks last season before injury) and trade acquisition Gervon Dexter Sr. They're hoping the interior can offset some of their weaknesses outside.
Kevin Knight: I like Kevin Stefanski and think it pretty much takes a miracle worker to extract any amount of success from the Cleveland Browns organization. It does seem like there's a coherent, forward-thinking plan in place for this Falcons team for the first time in years. I don't necessarily expect a lot of success in 2026 based on the moves made to this point and the way the team is structured, but I do expect Atlanta to be one of the most aggressive teams in free agency and the draft in 2027.
Kevin Knight: As I mentioned before, Brandon Dorlus is a borderline-elite interior pass rusher who may also get some run on the edge. Linebacker Divine Deablo was the biggest surprise in last year's free agent class and completely transformed the defense when he was on the field. Second-year safety Xavier Watts was a DROY candidate in 2025 and forms a dynamic duo with veteran Jessie Bates III. Atlanta will be starting two rookies on defense: Avieon Terrell (brother of A.J. Terrell) in the slot, and Kendal Daniels at linebacker. Both impressed in training camp, with Daniels being a particularly pleasant surprise given his Day 3 selection.

Egyptian teenager Hamza Abdelkarim will sign a new contract with Barcelona next week that runs until 2030, the club said on Friday.
The 18-year-old joined Barcelona on loan from Cairo giants Al Ahly in February before making a permanent switch in the summer, having featured at the World Cup.
He became the youngest player to represent Egypt at the World Cup, where he appeared in four of the team's five games.
Abdelkarim impressed in pre-season for Barca with four goals in five matches and made his competitive debut for the Spanish champions as a late substitute in last month's 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
He is due to sign his contract extension on Tuesday, the club said.

Cesc Fabregas has been left seriously impressed by Barcelona's current level under Hansi Flick, describing the Blaugrana's performances as "frightening" ahead of their eventual Champions League meeting with his Como side.

While a lingering back injury has consistently led to Clark landing on the injury report, she has been able to stay on the floor for the most part. Clark, however, was limited to only 13 games played last year — which happened to be Sophie Cunningham's first season with the Fever. 2026 has given Cunningham an opportunity to see Clark's game on a more consistent basis, and one specific element of Clark's approach has especially impressed the WNBA veteran.
"I will say, yeah, she (Clark) didn't play last year and that was my first time really being on the team and being her teammate, but I really do feel like this year she is using her body so, so well," Cunningham said on her new podcast, No Hesitation with Sophie Cunningham Drew Hanlen. "Like she's strong, she's using the glass. Her jump-shots are going in and it's efficient and it's good for us. But I do think that, like, her body control this year has been huge."
Clark's 22.5 points per game, 45.6 percent field goal percentage and 37.3 three-point percentage all represent career-high marks. She may not win the WNBA MVP Award with players such as A'ja Wilson and her Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell also playing at high levels, but Clark will certainly be in the conversation. She could even be a top three finalist for the first time (Clark finished fourth during her rookie season in 2024).

The FIBA World Cup is underway, and the United States women are once again the heavy favorite to walk away with the gold medal. The US hasn't lost in the World Cup since 2006, and this year's roster is stacked with both veteran and up-and-coming talent.

The New York Jets didn't draft David Bailey third overall to be a developmental player, he was drafted him to make an immediate impact. ESPN believes that's exactly what's about to happen.
In ESPN's 2026 rookie season guide, it is projected that Bailey will finish as the NFL's rookie sack leader. ESPN forecasted eight sacks for the Jets' edge rusher, placing him ahead of Tampa Bay Buccaneers defender Rueben Bain Jr. (6) and Los Angeles Chargers EDGE Akheem Mesidor (5).
The estimation is another sign of the expectations surrounding Bailey as he prepares for his first NFL season.
The Jets entered the offseason looking for pass-rush help and found it in the former Texas Tech Red Raiders standout. Bailey quickly impressed throughout training camp and the preseason, flashing the explosiveness and athletic traits that made him one of the top prospects in the 2026 draft class.

BYU coach Kalani Sitake gave a shoutout to the fans following the Cougars' season-opening 63-7 win over Utah Tech late Saturday night.
Even with BYU taking on an FCS opponent, Sitake was impressed not just with his team's play, but with the fan support in the home opener at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
He believes it set an impressive standard for players who transferred in from other schools, in their first experience playing at home in Provo.
"Really proud of the team, proud of the way the guys played, proud of the energy that we had. And just want to tell all the fans, thank you so much for your energy. They stayed here till the very end. The ROC (BYU's student section) was here the whole entire time," Sitake said.
"(That) impressed a lot of our players that came from the portal, been other places. They couldn't believe the support that the fans had for the team and the energy — made a lot of noise. A little bit of personal story-time to start this week's Sinners & Saints. Yesterday was the first Roma match that my girlfriend watched all the way through in a serious way. She's a fan of football in general, but follows the NWSL most closely. Thanks to my work with Chiesa di Totti, she knows what's going on in a general way with Roma most of the time, and we've both been thinking for a while that it would be great for us to watch Roma together this season. Her main experience with seeing me follow Roma has been witnessing my frustration: she knows Roma is generally a club with talented players that fail to meet expectations, a club always just on the outside looking in.
Because of some scheduling issues for the first two matches, yesterday was her first time watching a match this season in full (whereas previous seasons, she didn't want to watch because it was "kind of depressing." Fair enough.). 45 minutes in, she was impressed albeit deeply frustrated with Roma's inability to get the ball past Marco Carnesecchi. 85 minutes in, I thought I was introducing her to the apotheosis of what happens when Roma Happens; when no amount of combined talent, no amount of good form, no amount of opportunities on goal seems to be capable of defeating the destiny of Roma to be just one tier below the best of Italian and European football, for eternity.
Then, of course, came the six minutes where Roma turned a 0-1 loss into a 2-1 win. I was on the edge of my seat (literally, my Uber nearly got into an accident) when Matías Soulé scored his stoppage time goal to preserve Roma's perfect record and keep the hopes of something greater for this season alive. I'm still feeling shocked and thrilled that the Giallorossi pulled this one off, and what a game to use to truly introduce my girlfriend to Roma. Roma did concede, and Roma did look as if they were going to lose this one for most of the second half; given that, I had to anoint at least one player a sinner. But make no mistake: this match felt more exciting to me than either of the multi-goal clean sheets that started the season, and in my book is a far better signal for just how high this Roma can go than either the win against Lecce or Fiorentina.
One quick aside before diving into the sinners and saints: my love for Mile Svilar knows no bounds, but if yesterday's match taught me just about anything regarding a non-Roma player, it's that I want Marco Carnesecchi to be Italy's goalkeeper moving forward. What an incredible performance; this one could have and should have been a 5-1 rout, if not for his 9 saves.
He got the game-winner in stoppage time, so he has to be the first saint on the list. MatìGol (can we start calling him that?) put in an excellent shift as a substitute, garnering himself an 8.7 rating from SofaScore after coming on for Rodrigo Mora in the 54th minute and practically willing the Giallorossi to the win. Portsmouth boss John Mousinho has eased concerns over Jayden Meghoma after the defender was forced off during his side's win over Cardiff.

Jalon Daniels entered the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offseason program as an undrafted rookie simply trying to earn a place in the organization. A few months later, he will open the regular season one play away from being Tampa Bay's starting quarterback, and that unlikely rise has certainly caught the attention of general manager Jason Licht.
Speaking with NFL Network's Sara Walsh, Licht summed up Daniels' path to becoming Baker Mayfield's backup with some significant praise. "There's no blueprint for an undrafted rookie becoming your number 2 quarterback," Licht told Walsh. "Jalon basically wrote his own." That statement carries even more weight given how rare Daniels' situation is. According to Elias Sports Bureau, the last undrafted rookie quarterback to be active for Week 1 was Trevone Boykin with the Seattle Seahawks in 2016. Daniels didn't simply survive roster cuts, either. He beat out veteran Jake Browning for the job and convinced Tampa Bay it could enter the season with only two quarterbacks on its initial 53-man roster.

The Bucs apparently began viewing Daniels differently after their first preseason game against the Jets. Licht said conversations shifted from Daniels needing to prove he could be the backup to essentially needing to prove that he couldn't. He never gave them a reason to change course. There is still considerable risk involved. Daniels has never taken a regular-season NFL snap, and Tampa Bay is trying to contend for another NFC South ****** le. If Mayfield misses time, the Bucs would be handing their offense to an undrafted rookie. Yet Licht doesn't appear interested in keeping a veteran around simply for the comfort of experience. He said Tampa Bay would rather have a talented, prepared, inexperienced quarterback than choose experience just for the sake of it. The Bucs aren't treating him like an undrafted rookie they hope to develop eventually. They've trusted him with one of the most important backup jobs on the roster because they believe he earned it.

Australian Ben Simmons, who missed last season with nagging back injuries, has agreed on a one-year NBA comeback deal with the Sacramento Kings, according to multiple reports on Friday.
The 30-year-old point guard was the top pick in the 2016 draft by Philadelphia but missed the 2016-17 campaign with a broken right foot only to earn the 2018 NBA Rookie of the Year award.
Simmons last played in the NBA in early 2025 as a reserve with the Los Angeles Clippers but ESPN and The Athletic reported he has come to terms on a deal worth $3.5 million with the Kings, who were reportedly impressed with his performance at a workout this week.
He will likely serve as a backup for rookie guard Darius Acuff, the seventh pick in last June's draft, as well as a possible fill-in at other roster positions.

Mansfield Town arrived hoping to continue their strong start to the campaign. Following a recent 5-2 victory over promotion hopefuls Luton Town, the Stags were hoping to continue winning habits, but instead left on the back of a 5-0 defeat, which in truth could have been much worse.
Although many Reading players could be singled out for praise, I was particularly impressed with George Earthy, whose movement off the ball and passing ability reminded me of a certain Frank Lampard. I wonder if he ever made it in the game!
Paddy Lane had one of his best performances in a Reading shirt and Kyreece Lisbie continues to impress with his direct style of play and willingness to make things happen going forward.

Former Nebraska football and current Kansas City Chiefs running back Emmett Johnson has impressed over the course of training camp and preseason. Chiefs coach Andy Reid identified one specific area that the rookie has improved on over the course of the last couple of weeks.
Johnson had a productive preseason. He recorded 26 carries for 123 rushing yards and one touchdown. He officially secured the number two running back spot on the team's depth chart behind Kenneth Walker, and he is now in a position to take on a bigger role.
There was one specific thing that Johnson got better at over the course of the preseason, as Reid told the media.
"Pass protection. We knew he could run the ball, but the thing we had to see was the pass protection. For him to be that number two back, you gotta be able to do that."
Pass protection is an essential tool running backs need in modern college football. Johnson did it at a high level in Lincoln, and now it seems like he is translating those skills to the NFL.

Jane Fonda and Barbra Streisand have led tributes to the late Gloria Steinem.
The trailblazing feminist activist died at her home in New York City on Wednesday. She was 92.
Following the sad news, Fonda issued a heartfelt statement via Instagram.
