WEST HAVEN – Cheshire senior kicker Tim Reinhard was feeling good in warm-ups, drilling kicks through the uprights from 50 yards away. Reinhard felt he would get his opportunity during the game.
Reinhard came through, capping a furious second half rally by the Rams, when he nailed a 44-yard field goal with 1 minute, 55 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lift Cheshire football to a 15-13 victory over West Haven in a Southern Connecticut Conference contest at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven Friday evening.
"I'm so grateful to have a team to put me in a position to go help win a game," Reinhard said. "Nothing is possible without my team helping me."
After trailing 13-0 at the half and accumulating less than 20 yards of offense in the first half, Cheshire turned the game around in the third quarter by taking advantage of two West Haven miscues.
On West Haven's first offensive snap of the third quarter, the ball sailed out of the end zone for a Cheshire safety. The Rams then marched 44 yards in six plays and got within 13-10 on a Michael Chopak 15-yard touchdown run, and the conversion run by Shane Jerome.

It's one spot lower than the preseason poll. The Rebels were No. 10 in the initial rankings.
Ole Miss (1-0) is coming off a 41-38 win on the road at Louisville on Sept. 6. The Rebels won on a game-winning 48-yard field goal from kicker Lucas Carneiro. Coach Pete Golding said the Rebels have plenty of things to clean up.
Ole Miss will host Charlotte (0-1) in Week 2 on Sept. 12 (6:45 p.m., ESPN2). Charlotte lost 43-41 to The Citadel in Week 1 in a game that went to three overtimes.

Pat McAfee has always flown the flag for punters in the NFL, but he has now admitted his playing career did leave him feeling slightly guilty.
There are a lot of players both past and present who do not consider kickers and punters as actual NFL players.
McAfee will certainly argue against that, but he does appreciate that the kickers and punters do not quite pull their weight in the same way as the other players do.
It must be said that McAfee is one of the few punters who put their bodies to the test by getting involved in tackling among other aspects of the game.
However, the 39-year-old has now admitted that he did feel guilty not having to learn the playbook in the same way the rest of the squad was made to.

Elversberg have two wins from two as they enjoy a dream start to their maiden Bundesliga campaign, but they will be without head coach Vincent Wagner for their Matchday 3 clash against reigning champions Bayern Munich after the DFB rejected the club's appeal following his sending off against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
A statement from the DFB read: "In its ruling, the DFB sports court stated that, according to the referee, coach Wagner had approached him from a considerable distance, even though the fourth official had previously instructed him to stop. Wagner intended to complain to the referee and confront him. This account, the sports court stated, is corroborated by the available television footage. Therefore, the sending off was a factual decision by the referee, which is generally binding on the sports court."
Additionally, the sports court found "no evidence of an obvious error by the referee". Therefore, as reported by Kicker, Wagner will only be able to watch the game from the stands.
Wagner's sending off for a second bookable offence came with two yellow cards in quick succession. The first, triggered by Hugo Bolin's goal that put Gladbach 2-1 ahead. Wagner's argument that Tim Kleindienst had put the ball out for a throw-in, which initiated the counter-attack leading up to the goal, and thus a throw-in should have been awarded to Elversberg instead. A controversial replay call late in the first quarter quickly became a major talking point in No. 4 Notre Dame's matchup against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field, sparking criticism from fans and ***** ysts, including former Wisconsin star J.J. Watt.

The No. 9 Rebels had given up 14 straight points after taking a 38-24 lead in the fourth quarter. But an 18-yard completion from Trinidad Chambliss to Caleb Odom set up Carneiro's game-winner.
Louisville tied the game with 1:28 to go on a seven-yard TD run by QB Lincoln Kienholz. Had the Cardinals scored with less time left, it's plausible that coach Jeff Brohm would have gone for a 2-point conversion instead of a game-winning extra point. But Louisville kicked the PAT with the hope of getting the ball back or sending the game to overtime.
That did not happen as neither defense had much success in the second half. The teams combined for over 600 yards in the second half as Chambliss threw three touchdowns and rushed for another after halftime.
He finished 21-of-36 passing for 336 yards and those three touchdowns. Two of them went to Deuce Alexander, who had a breakout game with five catches for 159 yards and a pair of 62-yard touchdowns in that second half. Alexander, who is in his second year with the Rebels after transferring from Wake Forest, didn't top the 100-yard mark in any game in 2025.

Broderick Jones has made a strong early impression since joining the Dallas Cowboys. There is still work to be done, particularly with some of Jones' techniques, but the Cowboys have been encouraged by how he has responded to coaching.

Eintracht Frankfurt are set to receive €22 million from Fulham for Hugo Larsson, according to Kicker.
The Swedish midfielder joined the Premier League club on loan with an obligation to buy that would be triggered under certain conditions.
According to Kicker, the clause was already activated when Larsson came on for his Fulham debut in Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Crystal Palace.
The Swede has therefore left Eintracht permanently after three years.

Both suffered series-ending injuries on Saturday as the world champion Springboks beat the All Blacks 29-24 and grabbed a 2-1 lead in the four-test series.

It was recently revealed that Pat McAfee would bring his kicking contest back to College GameDay on ESPN for a fourth season, despite McAfee hinting twice last December that the series could be over for good.
McAfee funded the high-dollar-reward contest all on his own for the first three seasons and handed out more than $6 million. As Awful Announcing's Sam Neumann explained, "Either a fresh sponsorship agreement covering those costs or a renegotiated financial arrangement folded into McAfee's rumored $60 million-plus annual ESPN extension emerged as the two most plausible ways to bring the contest back without leaving McAfee personally on the hook for another year of six-figure kicks."
During Saturday's season debut of College GameDay at LSU in Baton Rouge, McAfee announced that a sponsorship agreement had indeed emerged. The Home Depot, which has sponsored College GameDay for 24 years, will match the dollar amount that he pays out for the entire 2026 season.
Additionally, the 33-yard kicking contest has officially rebranded as "Pat McAfee's 'Kicking is easy' contest" on College GameDay. The contest had been loosely referred to as that in the past, but now it's also listed that way on the ESPN graphic.
"This year, we have a massive update," McAfee said as kicking contestant Bruce was about to attempt a kick. "A company that has given millions and millions of dollars to college sports said, 'We want to help you in this whole thing.' The Cowboys have two defensive captains this season, and both were acquired by trading Micah Parsons.
Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams are the Cowboys' defensive captains. A year ago, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers for Clark and two first-round picks, and later they traded one of those picks to the Jets for Williams.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer singled out Williams as a leader who has meant a lot to the team.
"From the minute he got here, he's been about one thing, and it's winning," Schottenheimer said of Williams. "He's never won in the NFL and the leadership is real, the talent is incredible, but every decision that guy makes is based on what's best for us winning. I love that about him, and it's infectious. It rubs off. I love hearing him talk to the young linemen, the young defenders."
Unsurprisingly, quarterback Dak Prescott is the offensive captain and kicker Brandon Aubrey is the special teams captain. Schottenheimer said the players voted on the captains, and those four players were overwhelmingly the top vote getters.

Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams are the Cowboys' defensive captains. A year ago, the Cowboys traded Parsons to the Packers for Clark and two first-round picks, and later they traded one of those picks to the Jets for Williams.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer singled out Williams as a leader who has meant a lot to the team.
"From the minute he got here, he's been about one thing, and it's winning," Schottenheimer said of Williams. "He's never won in the NFL and the leadership is real, the talent is incredible, but every decision that guy makes is based on what's best for us winning. I love that about him, and it's infectious. It rubs off. I love hearing him talk to the young linemen, the young defenders."
Unsurprisingly, quarterback Dak Prescott is the offensive captain and kicker Brandon Aubrey is the special teams captain. Schottenheimer said the players voted on the captains, and those four players were overwhelmingly the top vote getters.

Can first-year head coach Bob Chesney really replicate the magic that he created at James Madison University with the UCLA Bruins? That's become the expectation as Chesney has yet to scuffle so far in his NCAA coaching career.
To accomplish the feat, Chesney brought over many of his James Madison players through the transfer portal to UCLA. One of those players is tight end Josh Phifer, who spoke to California Post writer Ben Bolch about the similarities between JMU and UCLA.
"I was getting goosebumps," Phifer said to Bolch. "Because I was like, holy s–t, it's happening, I can feel it. … This almost feels like JMUCLA – it feels like the same thing except it's beautiful every day, it's 75 degrees and all that."
Bruin fans would love for their football program to turn into JMUCLA, with Chesney leading the Dukes to a conference championship and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2025. Most would probably agree with this next sentiment. The Baltimore Ravens can state whatever they want publicly. Everyone knows they didn't simply bring in Jake Moody to take a look at another leg.

As expected, everything was on the table for discussion. He mentioned the inquiries the organization received about Joe ****** nano's services. The conversation shifted to a possible Lamar Jackson extension, which the GM said he'd like to have done by March.
He also addressed another elephant in the room, the added kicker. Except this time, the answer sounded less diplomatic and closer to what most Ravens would probably say had they been given the microphone.
Per Baltimore's GM, the goal was to indeed create competition at kicker as the regular season approaches. While the Ravens have publicly supported Tyler Loop throughout the summer, as they should, DeCosta made it clear the organization felt compelled to explore another option.

The Houston Rockets locked up a member of their young core Thursday morning, agreeing to a five-year $208 million contract extension with Amen Thompson, which equates to an average annual value of $41.6 million per season. The deal also includes a 10% trade kicker if Thompson were to be moved in the future.
Overall this was a sound move made by Rockets general manager Rafael Stone. Signing Thompson well below the value of a max contract ($255 million) will give Houston more flexibility moving forward. Additionally, had the Rockets waited until next summer, Thompson may have had the chance to earn a supermax deal if he were to make an All-NBA Team, win an MVP award or win the Defensive Player of the Year Award. Considering one of those three outcomes isn't out of the realm of possibility, the Rockets saved even more money by reaching an agreement with Thompson as soon as they did.

The New York Giants had two selections in the top 10 of the 2026 NFL draft, and many experts believe they knocked both picks out of the park.
Not everyone, however.
Raul Allegre, a kicker who won two Super Bowls with the Giants in 1986 and 1990 under Bill Parcells, thinks they could have done better.
With the fifth-overall pick in the draft, the Giants chose Ohio State's Arvell Reese, a dynamic defender who can play both inside and outside linebacker. Five picks later, they grabbed Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, arguably the best offensive lineman in the draft.
Allegre believes the Giants should have targeted one of Reese's teammates with the fifth pick.

Only 10 days remain until the New Orleans Saints' 2026 season opener. New Orleans will start the year on the road when it travels to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Sept. 13. A Georgia Bulldogs long snapper survived the grind of final cuts and has made an NFL roster. Former Georgia long snapper Beau Gardner has made the Chicago Bears' active roster, according to a team announcement. He won the competition against Luke Elkin.
Gardner will be an integral part of the special teams unit alongside kicker Cairo Santos and punter Tory Taylor. Santos has been the Bears kicker since 2020, while Taylor has been one of the best punters in the league.
Gardner was also a part of a great special teams unit in Georgia, where he transferred in 2024 after three seasons with the UCLA Bruins. Kicker Peyton Woodring, still on the team, made the All-SEC second team in 2024 and 2025, while Brett Thorson, the punter for the Minnesota Vikings, was a first-team All-American and winner of the Ray Guy Award in 2025, along with being All-ACC second team in 2024 and 2025.

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl believes the club possesses a center-back group that many teams around Europe would love to have.
Speaking to Kicker, Eberl highlighted the quality of Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Kim Min-jae, describing all three as world-class options while explaining why Bayern Munich are comfortable relying on the trio throughout a demanding season.
"It's simply the situation we have with Jona, with Upa, and with Min-jae," Eberl told Kicker. "Now we have three clear center-backs, all three world-class, you simply have to say that. I think quite a few clubs envy us for the quality of these three players. Of course, we'll need all of them given the number of games. Min-Jae really solidified last season and is continuing that now."

Ravens kicker Tyler Loop missed field goals of 58 and 51 yards in the preseason finale. He finished the preseason 5-of-8 as he tries to rebound from the 44-yard miss that ended the Ravens' season in Week 17.

Baltimore announced on Monday that the club has signed former third-round pick Jake Moody to its practice squad.
Moody, 26, had been with the Commanders since midway through last season. But Washington let him go in mid-August after Drew Stevens won the team's kicking competition.
Moody made 21-of-25 field goals and 60-of-61 extra points in his first season with the 49ers but struggled throughout 2024, making just 70.6 percent of his field goals. When he missed two kicks in San Francisco's season opener last year, the team let him go.
He kicked for Chicago for two games, making 8-of-9 field goals and 3-of-3 extra points while filling in for an injured Cairo Santos. He then went to Washington and made 10-of-11 field goals and 10-of-11 extra points in six games.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and kicker, Bayer are set to pay around €38 million to RC Strasbourg.
The 23-year-old right-back only still has to complete his medical, and then nothing will stand in the way of signing the contract.
That would make the Ivory Coast international Leverkusen's most expensive new signing, overtaking Malik Tillman. Tillman was signed from PSV in 2025 for €35 million.
