LOS ANGELES -- The Sparks (12-19) take on the Phoenix Mercury (12-22). But in this instance, the Sparks will be playing at Galen Center in the University of Southern California.
This game had a lot of intrigue. After all, both teams made a big trade with each other. The Sparks sent Kelsey Plum to the Mercury in exchange for Monique Akoa Makani, a 2027 first round pick, and a 2028 second rounder.
It turns out that Plum will be out for this Tuesday game while Akoa Makani is listed as questionable. So Plum won't be able to take on her former team in her first return to L.A. since the trade occurred. The Sparks are 2-2 since the deal while the Mercury are 1-3.
The playoffs are blurry in both teams' view at this point so they gotta see what they have. And it's a little tough for both. As Dana Brown works through the final year of his current contract as Astros general manager, it's fair to start evaluating his tenure the same way you would any executive in professional sports.

Put the good decisions on one side, the questionable ones on the other, and determine whether the positives outweigh the negatives.
There have certainly been positives.
Perhaps Brown's biggest success came when the Astros realized they weren't going to sign Kyle Tucker to the massive long-term contract he was eventually going to command. Rather than allowing another star player to simply walk out the door, Brown acted.

Pablo Torre dropped his latest bombshell on Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers and this one may be a gamechanger.
After initially reporting that Leonard had a sponsorship deal with Aspiration that appeared to circumvent the NBA salary cap, Torre found a similar agreement with tech company Daktronics, the manufacturer of the Intuit Dome scoreboard.
The second questionable deal is increasing the avalanche of pressure on the Clippers, owner Steve Ballmer, and the entire league over what happens next. And on Friday's episode of First Take, Stephen A. Smith gave his verdict. He suggested that both Ballmer and Leonard should be banned for a year.
"This is egregious if it's true. If it's true, we're talking about banishment for Steve Ballmer as far as I'm concerned for at least a year. It should be entertained that Kawhi Leonard should be banned for a year. He just took the money, but **** that," Smith said. "The deal with Aspiration, that's a green banking company that's at the center of the NBA investigation going on now. To learn that you might have had another sponsorship deal worth millions of dollars with Daktronics? So you had not one but a couple of companies funneling money to you? To circumvent the salary cap with you getting this money but you also getting these additional dollars on the side illegally, because according to NBA bylaws, you ain't supposed to be doing this? Nah, you can't go for that."

NEW DELHI: Flustered by the frequent injury breakdowns of players in the Indian team, the medical team at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru is looking to resurrect its fitness programme. TOI understands that the CoE is finally working on standardising base fitness parameters after it emerged that the non-definitive customised fitness tests for players were identified as a core reason for the drop in the overall fitness standards.
The Indian team went through a change in fitness testing drills after Adrian Leroux replaced Soham Desai as the strength and conditioning coach last year. It is learnt that the BCCI medical team, which includes the CoE and the Indian team, has struggled to work in sync to ***** s the fitness of players. Since Leroux took over, it was decided that the Bronco test would be the primary test to judge fitness instead of the Yo-Yo test.
The Bronco test, which is a more agility driven test, didn't have a base parameter till now. TOI has learnt that the BCCI medical team has rolled out a figure of 5.15-5.20 minutes as a base figure to complete the ***** orted drills to be declared fit enough to be selected after the debacle in white-ball tour of Ireland and England. Earlier, the BCCI had set 16.5 as a marker to clear the basic Yo-Yo test. The CoE has also set 9-10 minute mark to complete the 2 km running test which is known as the 2K test.
"The Indian players are not used to the Bronco test. Over the last year, the CoE had set different base parameters for players. It has now emerged that certain senior players were given much comfortable targets to meet to clear fitness tests. The CoE staff had also cleared players like Harshit Rana and Nitish ***** ar Reddy to make sure it was delivering players according to team management's needs," a BCCI source told TOI.
TOI has learnt that the team management and BCCI, led by secretary Devajit Saikia, has questioned Team India physio Kamlesh Jain for the repeated breakdowns and overall dip in the fitness standards. The team management is also not happy with players cramping so frequently even in the favourable English weather.
"Kamlesh has been told that he shouldn't worry about any player's stature and flag anything that he doesn't find satisfactory. It has been seen that the mobility of some of the players in the field has been questionable. Senior batters are struggling to push their running between the wickets as they bat longer. The number of slow fielders has increased," the source said.
It has been observed that regular India players have not been prepared for the new fitness drills. For instance, someone like Mohammed Siraj was recently caught off guard by the sudden fitness tests at CoE before leaving for Sri Lanka.
"It is only now that contracted players have been handed the base parameters of the new tests. The Test regulars were caught off guard by the programme given to them at CoE. The players who are not part of the Test team are now starting t

New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel indicated that rookie offensive tackle Caleb Lomu will be in the mix at guard, according to Boston Herald's Doug Kyed.
Along with Lomu, veteran offensive tackle James Hudson will also continue to get reps at the guard position.
The depth at guard has been questionable behind Alijah Vera-Tucker and Mike Onwenu. That has pushed the Patriots to search for other options for emergency situations. It never hurts to be prepared, and either Lomu or Hudson could have their number called if something catastrophic happens.

Injuries are never a good thing for a team or a player, and one that knocks the player out for an entire season is devastating. The New Orleans Saints have had pretty good luck in recent years avoiding these major injuries before the season began, but that good luck ran out quickly. On the first day of training camp, one of the most important players for the Saints' future went down with a potentially season-ending injury: DT Bryan Bresee.
Before getting to what an injury like this does to the roster, we have to talk about what this means for Bresee. 2026 was set to be an extremely impactful year for Bresee. He took a step forward in 2025, and his run defense became more consistent. This season was supposed to be the year that he could put everything together and prove to everyone that he is the franchise's star DT. With a potential contract extension set in 2028, Bresee must prove to the Saints that it will be worth it, but missing an entire year could prevent that.

That said, this interpretation is not uniform, and the debate on the market is serious. On July 14, Goldman Sachs reiterated its Buy rating and $242 price target, expecting organic growth to pick up in the third quarter as more details on AI monetization become available at Salesforce's Agentforce event in September. Goldman's more constructive reading is based on management's own acknowledgment of headwinds in Tableau, Commerce, and Marketing, which the firm sees as realistic rather than concerning, arguing that Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM) is being open about a 12-to-24-month drag on its organic growth algorithm rather than covering it up.
Salesforce Inc. (NYSE:CRM)'s historical valuation decline looks to be the most mispriced aspect of the market story. Shares are currently trading at a compressed forward earnings multiple of only 10.83x, a substantial drop from the stock's five-year historical average of over 127x. The disparity is even more obvious when compared to prominent peers such as ServiceNow, which trades at a forward P/E of around 20.43x and requires consistent revenue growth above 18% through 2028 to maintain its valuation premium. Salesforce's current valuation of less than 11x forecast earnings is in near-total deadlock, despite the company's strong free cash flow generation and substantial enterprise data integration.

Currently, Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) is trailing Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) in the race to join Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) in the $5 trillion market-cap club. Apple is just over $200 billion in market cap away from joining, while Alphabet is about $1 trillion away following its sell-off.
However, I think Alphabet can overcome this deficit if the market comes to its senses. Alphabet's business can actually justify a $5 trillion market cap, while Apple's is questionable. It's all because of one factor: valuation.

Apple stakes its company on the success of its hardware business, although it generates a fair bit of revenue from its services as well. Alphabet is more software focused. Alphabet clearly has some hardware exposure, but it also has a cloud computing business that involves purchasing hardware and renting it back out to clients. Regardless, both companies have proved their merits over the long term.
However, Alphabet looks to be the stronger company. From a revenue standpoint, Apple is still outperforming Alphabet. But that's not nearly as important for companies this size. What matters is how the company uses that revenue, and investors are more focused on profits. From a net income standpoint, Alphabet is starting to put some distance between itself and Apple.

It is tough to sweep a four-game series, unless you are the impossibly hot Boston Red Sox. Perhaps Shane Bieber took it upon himself to make Kyle Snyder, Kevin Cash, and the front office beliebers and effort to acquire him before the August 3rd deadline. Bieber had his second consecutive fantastic outing since the break with seven innings of one-run baseball allowing just three baserunners before handing it over to the A-pen to finish the game.
This was the type of game Toronto envisioned this winter, but has rarely been able to put together throguhout this frustrating season. The three runs scored today was the most runs the team has scored in their last six games, but it was the pitching that was story of the game and why the Rays offense was mostly lifeless today.
Bieber himself had just 8 swings and misses on 39 pitches, but he did a fantastic job working an extremely liberal strike zone to his advantage for seven innings:
The zone was questionable all day, but it was not until the 7th inning that any Rays batter challenged a pitch. Jonny DeLuca challenged a first pitch cutter that was well off the plate and had it overturned:
There were not many pitches more aggregiously wrong than this one, but Bieber certainly enjoyed a fair number of favorable strike calls in this contest yet the Rays were stubborn in using their challenges until DeLuca apparently had enough in the 7th inning:
