Ja'Kobi Lane's impressive Ravens debut has already earned the attention of the most important player in Baltimore's offense. Lamar Jackson had high praise for the rookie wide receiver after Lane caught a 15-yard touchdown from Joe ******* nano in the second quarter of Saturday's preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaking during a sideline interview, Jackson pointed specifically to the traits that have made Lane such a popular player throughout training camp.

We are inching closer and closer to the start of the 2026-27 college basketball season. As North Carolina is set to begin the first season of the Michael Malone era, the roster is complete, and soon Fall practices will begin.
But as the team has gone through Summer workouts, one player has been noticeably absent.
Center Sayon Keita has not been with the program as he's been overseas since committing to the Tar Heels. But that has finally changed. After a long way, Keita's visa has finally been approved, per Inside Carolina's Sherrell McMillan. Keita is on his way to Chapel Hill and should arrive by weekend's end.
The seven-foot freshman was a big addition to Malone's roster, committing to UNC on April 28th. He should be in the mix for minutes this year in the paint as the Tar Heels have had to overhaul their post depth.
At just 18-years-old, Keita made his professional debut with FC Barcelona last season. He is one of the more intriguing newcomers to UNC's roster for this season.

Liverpool enter the new season in a state familiar to all major clubs and yet uniquely tense when it happens at Anfield, poised between memory and reinvention, between the authority of what came before and the uncertainty of what comes next. In an interview with GiveMeSport, Robbie Fowler believes that uncertainty can become opportunity, particularly under Andoni Iraola, whose appointment has brought the promise of energy, aggression and a more direct sort of ambition.
Fowler's remarks, made at the launch of the Topps Flagship Premier League 2026/27 collection, sketched out an intriguing picture of where Liverpool might be headed. There was realism in it, because there had to be. Liverpool have changed manager, changed shape as a squad, and changed, too, in the wider imagination of the Premier League. Arne Slot's **** le-winning first season in 2024/25 now feels a long way away after the collapse of 2025/26 and the upheaval that followed. Iraola arrives with a reputation for intensity and coherence, but also with the burden that attends any coach stepping into one of English football's most exacting jobs.

There is a telling simplicity in that answer. For all the noise that accompanies transition, Liverpool remain compelling because they have chosen a coach with a clear identity. They pressed hard, moved the ball forward early and asked questions of opponents before those opponents had settled into their own patterns. That sort of football can stir a crowd quickly. At Liverpool, where emotional momentum can become tactical momentum, it may matter more than most.
Fowler's **** sment of Iraola was shaped by the same qualities many observers admired at Bournemouth. "Probably excited, actually. When I watched Bournemouth last year, I think they were obviously a team who were easy on the eye, they were very attack-minded, the press was brilliant. So how they play the game is probably the way I want to see a team."

The New Orleans Saints are signing defensive tackle Kahlil Saunders, per Nick Underhill.
Saunders, 23, went undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft before signing with the Miami Dolphins. The former Kentucky Wildcat played five seasons in college and was a four-year starter.
Saunders is an intriguing prospect at 6-foot-5, 270 pounds, and is a depth piece for the team after injuries have plagued the defensive line. Bryan Bresee will miss the entire season with a torn ACL, and recent injuries to Davon Godchaux and John Ridgeway III.
Saunders scored an 8.43 RAS score and has tremendous upside for his size. Through his five seasons with the Wildcats, the 6-foot-5 defensive tackle logged 4.5 sacks, 12 tackles for loss, and 77 tackles.
Saunders has a long path to making the final roster as an undrafted free agent, but with injuries to the defensive line, he'll likely see increased playing time in the preseason and a better chance to make a name for himself.

With joint practices against the New Orleans Saints finally arriving Thursday and preparations underway for Saturday's preseason opener, the Jacksonville Jaguars released their first look at the pecking order, releasing the first (unofficial) depth chart of the 2026 season on Tuesday. While the first depth chart of the year should never be treated as a final declaration of who will start in Week 1, it does provide an interesting snapshot of where several position battles currently stand.
We break down our top takeaways from the first depth chart, including what it tells us about Jacksonville's offensive line situation and which players may be making a serious push for starting roles.
Perhaps the biggest theme identified throughout the initial depth chart release is fairly straightforward: the players who were already in Jacksonville in 2025 generally remain ahead of the newcomers, for now. That doesn't mean those positions are settled. In fact, some of the most intriguing battles are just beginning. But, it does mean that much of the hoopla surrounding the initial release may not mean as much as has been made about it by the media. That's simply the blunt truth.
One of the more interesting, yet expected, developments comes at running back, where Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez are listed as co-starters to open the offseason. Both players have generated plenty of discussion throughout the offseason, and the Jaguars appear to be keeping the competition open rather than handing the job outright to Tuten, as has been heavily expected throughout the offseason. How the workload eventually gets divided during the preseason, and what happens when the Jaguars face the Saints in joint practices, should provide a much better indication of where this battle may be headed.
Patrick Mekari is still listed ahead of Wyatt Milum at right guard, and that has understandably generated some reaction considering how Milum has performed at guard, while Mekari has been load managed with a back issue. Milum has taken a significant number of snaps at guard throughout the offseason and has looked good there. His work at tackle has been more inconsistent, although I'd describe it as generally fine. Some may look at the depth chart and wonder why Mekari remains ahead despite his limited workload. Personally, I think it's simply too early to draw any major conclusions. The biggest tests of this competition haven't happened yet.

The J.J. McCarthy era may already be over with the Minnesota Vikings. He will, barring a shocking roster move, be part of the team in 2026 and 2027. But, barring a shocking leap forward into competence, he will not be the homegrown franchise quarterback for which the Vikings have been searching since Daunte Culpepper was winging deep ***** down the decidedly non-hallowed halls of the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome.
That's because McCarthy, even before Minnesota's first preseason game of the season, has been demoted. There was no hemming and hawing when it came to specifics of competition. There's no "-or-" designation on the depth chart. Head coach Kevin O'Connell understood people paid enough attention to see Kyler Murray was taking the lion's share of snaps with the starting offense in practice. He understood the frustration that came with averaging nearly 11 wins per season without a single playoff victory under his belt.
Thus, he made the logical decision most people expected.
It's another brutal blow in a brief career filled with them for McCarthy. He missed the entirety of his rookie season due to a knee injury. In his stead, journeyman backup Sam Darnold went from "veteran mentor" to "stud quarterback" in a 14-win season. O'Connell opted to stick with the quarterback his front office drafted 10th overall in 2024. That was two slots ahead of Bo Nix, a different kind of flawed-but-intriguing passer who was arguably an ankle injury away from leading the Denver Broncos to the Super Bowl last winter.
Waiting for Nix in the big game? That would have been Darnold, who went on to sign a modest three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks before leading them to a world championship.

Quarterback evaluation isn't just about arm talent. It's about identifying the habits that continue to appear, even after the jersey changes. For New York Jets rookie Cade Klubnik, one of those habits that continues to be a discussion piece may be his red-zone execution.
Through the early stages of training camp, Klubnik has battled injuries. He has also flashed many of the traits that made him one of college football's most intriguing quarterbacks. He's athletic, confident outside the pocket and capable of extending plays with his legs. Inside the 20-yard line, however, the margin for error becomes dramatically smaller.
That challenge isn't entirely new. During his career with the Clemson Tigers, Klubnik produced plenty of touchdowns and emerged as a dangerous dual-threat quarterback, finishing with 17 rushing scores. His mobility frequently gave the Tigers another answer near the goal line, particularly on designed quarterback runs and scrambles.
The rushing ability grabs one's attention, but there's more to the story when the Jets take center stage. Klubnik is a special talent. He's a two-time ACC Championship Game MVP (2022, 2024). The Jets saw fit to take him during Round 4 of the most recent NFL draft, but he also experienced stretches where drives stalled because of forced throws, turnovers, or mistakes in compressed areas of the field.
That's one of the most common adjustments young quarterbacks face when reaching the NFL. College quarterbacks can often rely on superior athleticism to escape pressure or create second-chance opportunities. Professional defenses rarely allow those same escape routes. Windows close faster. Defenders recover quicker. Mistakes become touchdowns for the other team.

The Chicago Bears wide receiver room is one of the most intriguing position groups on the roster going into the 2026 season, with plenty of opportunity available for younger players.
Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III will be tasked with leading the receiver room this season, after several veterans including DJ Moore, departed in the offseason. That could open the door for other young names, such as second-year pro Jahdae Walker to step up.
During an interview with Kay Adams at training camp last week, Odunze named Walker as one of the breakout stars of camp early on. And with injuries to Burden and rookie Zavion Thomas, Walker is seeing extended opportunities.
"I think Jahdae is doing a great job," Odunze said. "Jahdae Walker obviously had some flashes last season. Kalif Raymond as well, and I'm shouting out my wide receivers but I really think everybody is putting it all together."
It'll be an interesting battle to monitor between Walker and Thomas, who is day-to-day with a knee injury. No matter who comes out in that battle for the fourth wide receiver spot, there's also the possibility that both players get an opportunity to showcase themselves in the unique and high-powered offense that head coach Ben Johnson is looking to run this year.

Atlanta's adding another veteran option to their running back group, signing Marietta native Trey Sermon to a one-year deal. Just because you have Bijan Robinson doesn't mean you can't worry about your depth.
Sermon was a third round pick for the 49ers in 2021 and followed a familiar trajectory for a 49ers reserve runner, dealing with injuries and ultimately falling out of favor as the team quickly cycled through options.
Sermon will join the Falcons hoping to battle Nate Carter, Cash Jones, and Tyler Goodson for the team's third back role behind Bijan and Brian Robinson. With Bijan unlikely to play much during preseason and Brian pretty locked in to his role, expect all four backs to get plenty of run in the first week of preseason and (if they all stick around) over the coming weeks as well. He wound up on the Eagles in his second season, spent two years with the Colts, and signed with the Steelers last season and now has 505 yards and three touchdowns on the ground to go with 22 receptions for 138 yards.
With a good line—and the Falcons should once again have one—Sermon's physicality and speed can make him a fun reserve back, especially because he can catch the ball and block when called upon. To this point in his NFL career, the production has been underwhelming and he's struggled to find a home, but there is no locked-in third back in Atlanta and he should get a fair shot to show the role is his. With Cash Jones providing a lot of utility as a receiver and special teamer in camp, Carter having that intriguing breakaway speed, and Goodson doing a bit of everything well, though, Sermon will have to be sharp to get that chance.
Give him a warm welcome, and we may see him as soon as Friday night.

Former three-time NBA All-Star Ben Simmons is the latest free agent looking to make an NBA comeback, as former first-round picks Mario Hezonja and Lonnie Walker IV have returned to the United States and secured NBA contracts.
Simmons, an LSU product, experienced plenty of success on the biggest stages with the Philadelphia 76ers, making an All-NBA Third Team and two All-Defensive Teams. At his peak, the Australian guard, once compared to NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, averaged 16.4 points, eight **** ists, 7.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 0.6 blocks.
According to Andscape, Simmons is feeling the "best he's felt in years" and has already received an invite to training-camp from one team. EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The Los Angeles Chargers are entering the stretch of training camp where the calendar starts to matter.
Thursday's preseason opener against the Houston Texans is only days away, and Sunday's practice carried the feel of a team beginning to sharpen its focus. The pads are popping, competition is intensifying and coaches are getting a clearer picture of which players are ready to carry their work from camp into live preseason action.
There was plenty to watch on both sides of the ball Sunday, but the defense offered perhaps the most intriguing storyline.
A number of Chargers veterans and depth players did not practice, including safety Derwin James, left tackle Rashawn Slater, cornerbacks Tarheeb Still and Rodney Shelley, defensive back Noah Avinger, outside linebacker Bud Dupree, defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and offensive lineman Laekin Vakalahi.
Defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe was on the field but left individual work with a trainer. He later met with the media after practice, providing an encouraging reminder of just how important his development has become to this defense.

The Philadelphia Eagles aren't waiting until the preseason opener to evaluate potential roster additions. According to the NFL transaction wire, Philadelphia hosted defensive tackle David Blay, running back Ja'Quinden Jackson, and linebacker Tarron Jackson for free-agent visits Sunday.
Workouts and visits don't guarantee a signing. Teams routinely evaluate available players during training camp to ensure they have up-to-date medical information and a list of potential replacements in case of injuries.
Still, Philadelphia's three visitors are worth examining. Blay is a local product coming off his final season at Miami. Ja'Quinden Jackson offers size and power at running back, while Tarron Jackson is a familiar face after beginning his NFL career with the Eagles.
Blay may be the most intriguing developmental prospect of the three. The Levittown, Pennsylvania, native signed with New England as an undrafted rookie after playing at West Chester, Louisiana Tech and Miami. The Patriots released him Friday, allowing Philadelphia to bring him in two days later. New England lists Blay at 6-foot-2 and 292 pounds. He played 46 games during his college career, finishing with 129 tackles, 11.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one pass breakup. He recorded 28 tackles during his final season at Miami. The Patriots signed him May 8 before releasing him Aug. 7.
Blay's most productive season came at Louisiana Tech in 2024. He recorded 46 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks while earning first-team All-Conference USA honors. Philadelphia already has Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Moro Ojomo and Byron Young occupying prominent places in the defensive tackle rotation. Gabe Hall is among the players competing for a reserve role. That makes Blay more of a developmental option than someone likely to earn immediate playing time.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers never really got an opportunity to see what David Walker Jr. could do during his rookie season. A torn ACL ended his year before it began, but Walker is quickly making up for those lost reps in his second training camp.
ESPN's Jenna Laine highlighted Walker as one of the standouts from practice after the second-year outside linebacker made another play in the backfield. Walker strip-sacked backup quarterback Jake Browning near the end of practice and recovered the fumble himself.
It wasn't an isolated play either. According to Laine, Walker has recorded a sack in just about every practice so far, giving Tampa Bay another intriguing option in a pass rush that underwent plenty of changes this offseason.
Head coach Todd Bowles has been particularly impressed by Walker's versatility since he's been healthy.
"We didn't get to see him in pads last year, but to see him out there and the way he moves -- he moves like an inside backer, but he plays like an outside backer, and he's got great power," Bowles said.

NFL careers rarely follow a straight line. Elijah Moore knows that as well as anyone. The Philadelphia Eagles' wide receiver entered the league as a second-round pick of the New York Jets in 2021. It appeared destined for a lengthy run as a productive offensive weapon. Five years later, he's on his fourth team in three seasons and battling for a roster spot in one of the league's most competitive receiver rooms. That reality isn't lost on him. He spoke with the Philadelphia media and put those emotions into words.
"Life is not a linear path, I think, for any person. There's rarely, even [for] some of the top players that get picked, that it goes exactly the way that they wanted."
Timing matters in training camp. With DeVonta Smith and rookie Makai Lemon sidelined by hamstring injuries, Moore has received valuable first-team reps that may not have been available otherwise. Rather than simply filling ***** e on the practice field, he's used those opportunities to strengthen his case for a roster spot.
Moore has flashed throughout camp. Multiple sources, including The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff Neiburg, have described showings of quickness and route-running ability that once made him one of the more intriguing young receivers in football. While he has remained realistic about his own performance, he believes he's taking advantage of the chances he's been given.
"I'm super critical of myself, so I always think there is so much improvement that I could do with my alignment, my ***** ignment, my execution. Am I making the most of my opportunities? Yeah. Is there still opportunities I'm leaving out there? Yeah."

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a world-class player is coming to Liverpool.
Liverpool's transfer window has now reached a point where the decisions made over the next few weeks could have a significant impact on the direction of Andoni Iraola's first season.
For Richard Hughes, the issue is no longer simply about adding quality to the squad. It is about addressing clear structural weaknesses before the manager is asked to compete across an entire campaign. If Liverpool reach the end of the window without making substantial additions, scrutiny of Hughes' work as sporting director will naturally intensify.
The concern is that the current squad does not appear particularly well balanced for what Iraola is expected to demand from it. His style requires intensity, athleticism and depth across the pitch, yet Liverpool remain short in several areas and are already dealing with a growing injury list.

This season, we're about to learn a lot more about Williams. Is he capable of turning the Chicago Bears into a Super Bowl contender? If you ask that question among longtime NFL observers, you're likely to get a range of opinions. The talent is there, no doubt. Williams' miraculous playoff touchdown pass against the Los Angeles Rams was arguably the most remarkable feat of the postseason.
If the Bears hadn't lost in overtime, due in part to an interception caused by a miscommunication between Williams and D.J. Moore, Williams' fourth-down TD pass would be even more highly regarded. Still, it was another example of what makes Williams so intriguing.

Coordinator changes often create uncertainty. New play-callers bring new ideas, new tendencies, and sometimes entirely different visions for how an offense should operate. That may be one reason Dallas Goedert had a relatively quiet start to Philadelphia Eagles training camp. That certainly stood out. The targets reportedly weren't as frequent early in camp, which sometimes birthed legitimate questions about how Sean Mannion's offense might distribute opportunities.
Lately, however, a different trend has emerged. Per various sources, including ESPN's Tim McManus, "Jalen Hurts' connection with tight end Dallas Goedert is heating up. The Eagles have made a concerted effort to get the ball into Goedert's hands, involve him in the passing game, and make him a larger part of the offensive rhythm. Whether it's short completions underneath, chain-moving routes over the middle, or red-zone opportunities, Goedert's involvement has steadily increased as camp has progressed.
The Eagles have several intriguing options at tight end, but none match Goedert's combination of experience, production, and quarterback trust. Johnny Mundt is a valuable addition and appears to have carved out a role in certain personnel packages. The veteran has built a reputation as a blocker; however, not as a player expected to carry a significant portion of the passing attack.

OLTEWAH, Tenn. — For the third straight day, Mother Nature showed no mercy at the U.S. Women's Amateur.
Just as was the case on Wednesday and Thursday here at the Honors Course, wild weather conditions halted play Friday afternoon with all eight Round of 16 matches underway. Unlike the first two days, though, on Friday play never resumed.
After nearly three hours of rain and repeated lightning flashes, the USGA suspended the matches for the remainder of the day, citing unsafe conditions. Play is expected to resume Saturday at 7 a.m. ET.
As the course was ****** sed for potential damage, a tree behind the 18th green was discovered to have been struck by lightning. The tree sustained a long vertical gash, while bark and pieces of wood were scattered throughout the surrounding area. One piece of debris was even driven into the side of a nearby practice green. It remains unclear whether the storm caused any additional damage to the course.
Among the most intriguing story lines is 14-year-old Maggie Jiayi Ma of Irvine, Calif., who is the youngest player in the 156-player field and making a run at becoming the youngest champion in Women's Amateur history. The Diamondbacks are taking a low-risk shot on veteran reliever, signing right-hander Dennis Santana to a minor league deal two weeks after he was designated for ******* ignment by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Santana was dominant with the Pirates last season, logging a 2.18 ERA in 70 appearances out of their bullpen while converting 16 of 19 save chances. He was not the same reliever this year, pitching to a 6.05 ERA in 41⅔ innings.
Santana has an intriguing connection to the Diamondbacks: He crossed paths in Pittsburgh with Diamondbacks ******* istant general manager Jeremy Bleich, who until December had been the Pirates' director of pitching development.
"Obviously, have history with player, but I think we would do the same move with anyone in this sort of script," Bleich said. "Obviously, the reliever pool is extremely volatile. He was good in Pittsburgh and he had a tough year this year. We have found a few things that are different from last year, so I think in this context anytime you can get a pitcher who has had real success at the major-league level and you can find a specific thing or two that you can try to improve in a short period of time, it's worth the investment in resources to do."
