Longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight veteran and all-around violent fighter Darren Elkins returns to action against Cuban prospect Yadier del Valle in the "Featured" fight of UFC Vegas 120 this weekend (Sat., Aug. 8, 2026) inside Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And this weekend will be his final UFC fight.
"This is it, brother," Elkins told MMAmania.com during UFC Vegas 120 media day. "I'm older in age now, but mostly, I'm starting to get hurt more often. Training more and more is taking a toll on my body more than it used to, so it's time.
"I mean, I've been contemplating it for awhile, and I talked with my family," Elkins continued. "I've always wanted to lay my gloves in the Octagon, and most people don't get that chance — they either get cut or have to say it on social media. So, I wanted to do it and ride off into the sunset."

A lot has changed since college athletes began earning compensation in 2021.
A small percentage have become rich due to their talent and marketability. The vast majority, however, have earned much more modest additional income, if any at all.
But one thing hasn't changed: Opponents of college students cashing in on marketing their name, image and likeness, or NIL, still argue that athlete compensation has ended the supposed purity of college sports.
The NCAA has a long history of opposing college athletes profiting from their intellectual property. And even President Donald Trump has voiced his concerns, suggesting current NIL policies "could cause serious damage to college athletics" and issuing not one but two executive orders so far in his second term to "save" college sports.
However, as a professor of sport management who has been studying name, image and likeness policies since they were implemented in 2021, I believe there are a lot of misconceptions about how they work. Based on my studies – one published in 2023 and the other one published in 2025 – I'd like to set the record straight about a few things.

It's never great when you show up to play your local public golf course and find that the superintendent just had the fairways or greens punched—or both. Obviously, it's a necessary part of golf-course maintenance, otherwise you'd eventually be playing on dead grass, but it can wreak havoc on everything from putting to chipping to full-swing irons shots.
If you're new to the game, you should know that there are times when you can repair damage to a golf course. Under Rule 13.1c, for example, you can repair things such as spike marks, ball marks, old hole plugs and animal tracks on a putting green. Rule 16.1b allows you to take relief from abnormal course conditions in the general area.
But here's the thing: The definition of abnormal course conditions does not include aeration holes. If the maintenance crew created a hole after removing turf, a tree or to repair drainage pipes, you absolutely get relief. And the plugs created from punching the aeration holes are considered loose impediments and can be removed. However, the hole itself is considered just a normal part of course maintenance. If your putt is ******* py as a result, or your chip takes a sideways bounce on its way into a green, unfortunately, that is just part of the game.

BANGKOK (AP) — China announced a series of economic measures Wednesday against the United States, including controls on exports of drones to the U.S. and a ban on dealings with six American entities, in response to recent restrictions imposed by Washington.
Tensions are simmering between the world's two biggest economies ahead of an expected visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the U.S. in September, despite signs of warming ties during his meetings with U.S. President Donald Trump in Beijing in May.
The Commerce Ministry said the sanctions are in response to recent moves from the U.S., including a ban by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on imports of Chinese drones, and the Department of Homeland Security's decision to add 43 Chinese companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act entity list to prevent imports of goods made with forced labor.
The "measures seriously violate the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and severely damage China's legitimate rights and interests. China has no choice but to take necessary countermeasures in response," the ministry said in a statement.
It emphasized that China was acting with restraint and urged the U.S. to scrap its measures against Beijing and cease its "erroneous practices." It also warned of further sanctions if the U.S. rolls out new restrictive measures against China.

Notably, McGregor suffered the same ACL and meniscus injuries inhis other knee during his first bout with Holloway in 2013, whichhe won by decision. He took nearly a year to return from thatinjury. McGregor's other major in-cage injury was an infamous legbreak in his trilogy bout against DustinPoirier, which was followed by a nearly five-year UFChiatus.

McGregor has one fight remaining on his UFC contract and expects tocomplete it next year. The Irishman previously stated that he'seyeing an Octagon return for next summer, with International FightWeek 2027 as his target.

It was an impressive showing for the Rays offense last night, as Junior Caminero's two homers and Jonathan Aranda's four hits led the way to a 13-9 victory.
But tonight it was all about the brand new battery, as trade deadline acquisitions Freddy Peralta and and Liam Hicks both made their Rays debuts at pitcher and catcher, respectively. On the other side it was Gabriel Hughes, with just four major league starts under his belt coming into tonight.
Peralta got into some trouble immediately, giving up two hits out of the gate in the bottom of the first, but a double play and a strikeout on an elevated heater to catcher Hunter Goodman limited the damage to just one run. Whether is was just nerves or not to start the game, he recovered nicely to pitch a clean second.
Things were quiet until the top of the third when Cedric Mullins opened the Rays offense with the team's first hit of the night. After a Richie Palacios walk and a Taylor Walls bunt single, the bases were loaded with no outs. Hughes promptly struck out Yandy Diaz, but Aranda followed up with a game tying walk. Caminero gifted Hughes another strikeout, and it looked like Hughes was going to get out of it.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Johnstown-2 and Altoona-2 played a baseball game that had a little bit of everything Tuesday.
From superb starting pitching, some shaky defense, a controversial ruling and eventually clutch hitting, the two teams traded blows against one another, but it was Martella's Pharmacy that survived a 6-3 decision over ****** Motors in Pool A action during the early game at Sargent's Stadium at the Point.
The Johnstown-2 squad found itself tied late in the game with the Altoona-2 representative and used some small ball to forge ahead. Two Martella's Pharmacy runners reached base via a hit by pitch, then Jack Messina bunted the two into scoring position.
Johnstown-2 second basemen Mason Pfeil came up and roped a go-ahead single up the middle before center fielder Colby Rearick brought in two valuable insurance runs on a base hit of his own.
"I was definitely looking to be aggressive and I was trying to do damage," said Rearick, the No. 10 batter in the order. "I got a bunch of guys backing me. That's not just me getting a hit, that's everyone on this team and we needed that more than air, so that was a big spot for me to come through."

The deep passing game: Kayshon Boutte, A.J. Brown and Mack Hollins, the biggest top-level receivers on New England's roster, made several big plays on Tuesday. Their stat lines show how involved they were: Boutte caught a team-leading five passes in team drills, followed by Brown and Hollins hauling in four receptions each.
Boutte did most of his damage against the second-string defense, and remains the factual WR4 behind Brown, Romeo Doubs and DeMario Douglas, but it is clear just how much trust both Drake Maye and Tommy DeVito have in him. He rewarded that trust with multiple downfield receptions on Tuesday — including in both QB's two-minute drill situations.
The same was true for Hollins, whose most notable play was a deep sideline shot from DeVito for what would have been a 40-plus-yard touchdown in a true game setting. Overall, the veteran has been productive the last two days and continues to be a key target in select situations.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit have spent years trying to turn a modest island cabin into a showcase of Norwegian design — an ambitious renovation that stalled just as it was about to break ground. Now a storm named Amy has done what years of royal scandal couldn't: it forced their hands. The tempest tore apart one of the docks on Flatholmen, the tiny island the couple has owned since 2008. The damage has produced the first real building permit the property has seen in years — not for the glass-and-timber dream house long promised, but for a humble pier.

According to Norwegian outlet TV2, the municipality of Risør has cleared the crown prince and princess to rebuild the storm-wrecked dock. It's a modest approval, capped at six square meters, but it matters; without a working dock, the island is barely reachable, and any future revival of the couple's long-shelved architectural project would need one regardless.
The permit came with a catch. A companion request — for a seaside platform of the kind common along Norway's coast — was withdrawn after the state administrator recommended against it. The dock itself only cleared because of an unusual technicality: one of Flatholmen's existing moorings is used by police, which let the municipality authorize a second access point without setting a precedent for other landowners. Haakon and Mette-Marit will cover both the construction and the roughly $575 in municipal fees themselves. Notably, the original dock — built sometime between 1982 and 2004 — never had a formal permit at all, so this approval is being processed as new construction from scratch.

August 3 (Reuters) - U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor declined on Monday to halt $655.5 million in damages that Palestinian authorities were ordered to pay plaintiffs in a U.S. civil lawsuit concerning ‌attacks that killed and injured Americans in Israel from 2002 to 2004.
Sotomayor denied a request by the ‌Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization to put on hold the judgment while they appeal a lower court's decision to revive the case years after it had been dismissed. The lawsuit was brought on behalf of Americans killed or injured in those shootings and bombings in the Jerusalem area.
The Supreme Court last year upheld a federal law that allowed claims like those brought by the plaintiffs in the case.
Sotomayor did not explain her decision and did not refer the case to the entire court. ‌Sotomayor handles emergency matters for cases arising ⁠from New York and certain other states.

Jimmy Fallon spent a portion of Monday's Tonight Show celebrating Trump's defeat in the ongoing Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool saga.
The shallow pool was recently refurbished with a shade of dark blue and outfitted with "advanced nanobubbler technology" to tackle algae blooms that have long plagued the landmark — but algae returned shortly after the multi-million-dollar renovations were complete, and the new sealant started to peel off in chunks that bubbled to the surface.
Late last week, Washington, D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro moved to dismiss criminal charges against former Olympian David Hearn — one of several people arrested on suspicion of vandalizing the monument — after the Trump administration admitted that the damage to the recently installed blue liner was "the result of flawed installation by the contractor."
Fallon, 51, weighed in on the president's defeat, saying, "Trump is upset because his own Justice Department admitted the reflecting pool damage wasn't caused by vandalism, like he said. It was just a result of shoddy construction work.
"Trump claimed someone used a knife to quickly cut the pool liner the length of three football fields. I can barely use a knife to cut open my Amazon box," the late night host quipped.

You may never know in Wrigley, but that doesn't mean you don't know early on. And here that was the case with the ball flying out of the yard right from the get-go in a 10 to 5 defeat against the Cubs, with the Dodgers outmatched offensively.
The first inning alone saw five runs cross the plate, as Matthew Boyd had to contend with one of a pitcher's worst nightmares, seeing one mistake turned into a 3-0 game. Tommy Edman hit a home run, driving in Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages, who had both reached base on soft contacts.
Any idea the Dodgers had of quickly controlling this game went away just as that first-inning lead came. The Cubs immediately countered with a two-run shot from Seiya Suzuki two batters into their offensive performance. And that would be one of three two-run homers in as many innings that Justin Wrobleski would allow, eventually conceding a fourth one as well.
In the second inning, it was Kevin Alcántara helping the Cubs take the 4-3 lead with the first home run of his big league career. From youth to experience, Carson Kelly then managed to isolate the Dodgers number as his favorite victim, knocking a ninth long ball versus LA. Lastly, in Kyle Tucker's first game with the Cubs, it was a different player facing his former club that did the real damage: Michael Busch's fifth-inning solo shot knocked Wrobleski out of the game.
In still a short sample, Busch is building up quite the resume versus his former team with nearly an extra-base hit a game against them (15 in 16), including five long ******* . A pitcher who had allowed just eight home runs prior to his last start, Wrobleski doubled that mark in the span of two games, with back-to-back appearances allowing four home runs.

United States President Donald Trump is no stranger to controversy, and he found himself in yet another one when he involved himself in FIFA's ruling to rescind the red card suspension handed to United States striker Folarin Balogun. In July, one of the nation's top Democrats, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, demanded that FIFA turn over all records related to its communications with Trump, members of his administration, and the Trump Organization.
If Raskin follows through with the probe, he may find correspondence FIFA President Gianni Infantino does indeed have plans in the works tied to people close to the Trump administration.
Last week, The Times' Martyn Ziegler reported on Infantino's plans to sell a private stake in future World Cups to private investors, including Josh Kushner, the younger brother of Jared Kushner, the United States Special Envoy for Peace Missions and husband of Trump's daughter, Ivanka. Infantino backed off of his plans after they were met with global outrage, but the damage was already done.
There has been increasing pressure for Infantino to be ousted, and he is reportedly turning to the Trump administration for support.
"Gianni Infantino is set to hold a meeting with senior figures in the Trump administration as he seeks support to continue at FIFA. Infantino has already been calling federations for public support as pressure grows for him to resign," Ben Jacobs reported on Monday.

Divers gathered in Kosovo on Sunday for the annual Fshajt Bridge diving competition, one of the country's longest-running sporting and cultural events.
Fifteen competitors jumped from the 22-meter-high bridge near Gjakova, aiming to impress judges with their technique as they plunged into the river below.
The event, known as Ura e Fshejte, was first held in 1954 but was suspended during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war after the bridge was damaged.
It returned in 2014 and continues to draw participants and spectators from across the region.

Guardians of the Wild Card
Following the series victory in the Steel City over another NL Wild Card in the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Dbacks made the last stop on their 4 city road trip, this time facing off against another Wild Card contender in the Cleveland Guardians. While both the Guards and Pirates are trying to make a push for October, they are doing it in entirely different ways as the Snakes would go from facing a top 3 offense OPS wise in all of baseball in the Pirates, to a team that is dead last in the majors in team OPS in the Guardians. Even though the offense in Cleveland is lackluster, they would make up for their lack of offensive production with stellar pitching as their starting staff ranks 6th in baseball in ERA.
The Cleveland staff lived up to their hype in this series, only allowing 3 ER across a combined 17.1 IP and 19 K's, keeping the Diamondbacks offense quiet for the most part. Thankfully the snakes were able to do their damage against the guardians bullpen and steal 2 very crucial games right before the trade deadline.
Speaking of doing damage against a team's bullpen, that's exactly what the Guardians did in Saturday's Game 2 win that saw a combined 20 runs on 30 hits between the 2 teams. Of the 6 runs the Diamondbacks bullpen surrendered this series, 5 of them were in because of Paul Sewald's continued struggles over his last 30 games (more so his last 11 outings). In those last 30 outings for Sewald he has pitched 26.2 innings to the tune of a 7.43 ERA with an opposing slash line of .262/.302/.569 and 9 HR allowed. After this outing in which he failed to record even one out and allowing 5 ER, his ERA on the season is now up to 6.45, which would be the worst ERA in his entire career and his highest since having a 6.07 ERA across 56.1 IP in 2018 with the Mets (13.50 in just 6 IP in 2020 so im not counting that small of a sample size).
These struggles of late had Gabe, Brandon and I asking ourselves if this was the last time we would see Paul Sewald pitch for the Diamondbacks in 2026 and if these struggle of late would put any pressure on DBacks GM Mike Hazen to try to add a high leverage arm to the bullpen before the deadline passes. The three of us were in the same boat in saying that we appreciate and acknowledge that Paul did have some early season success and had a stretch where he was as reliable of a closer as one could ask for (outside of Mason Miller obviously), hitters have finally started to readjust to his approach and that's being shown in not only his career high ERA, but his career high in home runs allowed. It's one thing to struggle against a top offense like Pittsburgh is one thing, but to fail to even record an out against a team who is dead last in OPS out of all 30 Major League teams shows that Pauls time in the desert just might need to come to an end.

Republican Sen. John Kennedy (La.) said Sunday he is unsure whether President Trump truly believes his claims that vandals damaged the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
"I don't know whether he really believes that, or it's part of his political messaging, or he's just thinking out loud," Kennedy told host Kristen Welker on NBC News's "Meet the Press."
"You and I both know the president well," the Louisiana Republican added. "He exists loudly, and he grows anxious when he has an unexpressed thought. I'm not saying he doesn't really believe it, I just don't know."

In a 20-page filing, the Justice Department pinned the damage to the site on a "rushed and botched installation" Atlantic Industrial Coatings carried out this spring and summer to repaint the bottom of the pool. The department also faulted the Interior Department for a "barebones" report about the incident involving Hearn.

It was about as rough of a first inning as possible for rookie Connor Prielipp. Second baseman Cole Young doubled on Prielipp's first pitch of the game, and then he walked the next two Mariners on nine total pitches to load the bases with no outs. Julio Rodriguez then singled on the first pitch HE saw and it was 1-0 Seattle before Prielipp even worked up a sweat. He walked in one more run a few batters later, but the young lefty struckout the side in the midst of all this chaos to limit the damage.
Seattle got one more in the second inning thanks to a solo homer by Randy Arozarena to make it 3-0, but from there, Prielipp was completely locked in. It took him 55 pitches to get through the first two innings, and then 33 to finish the next 3.1 frames. That's the exact kind of development you want to see from a rookie starting pitcher and why so many people within the Twins are high on his long term outlook. The Mariners did mount another threat in the fifth inning with two men on and one out, but Prielipp successfully worked his way out of that jam and got Josh Naylor to start the sixth for a cherry on top.
On the other half of the game, the Twins had yet another slow start against an opposing starter. If it feels like Minnesota has been playing from behind often you'd be correct. Setting aside the three and four error slop-filled games last week, the Twins have scored just eight total runs in first five innings of games since the All-Star Break. They've taken the first lead in just two of those games as well. It was more of the same against Logan Gilbert and Seattle today.
The Twins had just one hit and baserunner through the first four innings before a Luke Keaschall solo shot got rid of the goose egg on the scoreboard. Trevor Larnach added a bomb of his own in the sixth, and then the Twins played some good small following a Brooks Lee leadoff double and finally worked their way to a 3-3 tie. Minnesota then had a great opportunity to take the lead in the eighth with two runners in scoring position and one out, but Kody Clemens and Royce Lewis struck out to end the threat.
Then, a weird ninth inning happened. With Andrew Morris in to try to send things to extras, Arozarena led things off of with a sharp double and advanced to third on a fly ball. Morris then intentionally walked Julio Rodriguez to put runners on the corners with one out. The Twins brought the infield in for Cal Raleigh, hoping to either get the runner at home or set up a quick double play, and they got exactly what they needed with a hard ground ball hit directly to Royce Lewis at first. Lewis, still fairly new to the position, went to step on first base, but seemed to realize the problem with that mid-play, as you can see below.

An 18th Century windmill will be put on Historic England's at-risk register after years of neglect.
Ellis Mill in Lincoln, which was built in 1798, last operated fully in 2020, and has only opened to the public occasionally since then.
Historic England visited the mill in March and said it had "damp, damage to exterior brickwork and failing paintwork" on the wooden cap and sails.
Lincolnshire County Council, which owns the Grade I listed building, said it was considering options for its future and other windmills it owns.

Aleksandar Rakic got his first win in more than five years at UFC Fight Night 283, and did so as a heavyweight for the first time.
Rakic (14-6 MMA, 6-5 UFC) made a successful transition up from 205 pounds on Saturday when he outworked divisional veteran Marcin Tybura (27-12 MMA, 14-11 UFC) en route to a unanimous decision win by scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27 at Belgrade Arena in Serbia.
After Serbian fighters went 0-3 to start the main card, Rakic put his home country on the win column with a methodical striking performance.

The Justice Department moved to dismiss the criminal case against Olympian David Hearn, who was alleged to have vandalized the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting pool, acknowledging the damage to the pool "was the result of flawed installation by the contractor."
Hearn pleaded not guilty to a felony destruction of property charge earlier this month after the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro accused him of allegedly "forcefully and violently" ripping up parts of the pool floor.
Pirro's office said in a filing Friday seeking to drop the case that it only learned of evidence pointing to "a rushed and flawed installation process" after Hearn had been indicted by a grand jury.

The filing stated Pirro herself visited the Reflecting Pool on July 17 after it had been fully drained and became aware of significant damage throughout the pool area, which spurred the DOJ to request all documents from the U.S. Interior Department about how the pool was lined.

Wood Mackenzie now estimates that the global upstream oil and gas sector could generate $495 billion in free cash flow in 2026 if crude averages $90 per barrel, more than doubling its previous forecast based on a $60 oil price **** umption. The revision follows the sharp jump in crude prices triggered by the Middle East conflict, turning what had been expected to be another year of disciplined cash generation into one of the industry's most lucrative windfalls in recent years. Yet the gains will be concentrated among the world's largest producers, with the 49 national and international oil companies covered by Wood Mackenzie expected to capture $272 billion of the total.
Wood Mackenzie expects the conflict to reduce global oil production by at least 3%, with Iraq accounting for roughly 3 million barrels per day of lost output, while damage to infrastructure in Qatar is projected to cut global LNG supply by 2%. The stronger cash flow outlook does not alter the industry's longer-term production trajectory. Wood Mackenzie projects average production across the 155 upstream companies it tracks will fall 30% between 2030 and 2040, with more than 70 producers facing declines of more than 50% unless they make significant new investments.
However, WoodMac says energy companies are likely to maintain capital discipline despite the unexpected influx of cash, with capex budgets expected to largely remain flat while share buybacks are projected to decrease by 5% as boards prioritize balance sheet strength and deleveraging.

The Mets fell to the Fish by a score of 5-2 which evened up the series against Miami. Kodai Senga got the start instead of Freddy Peralta who was scratched ahead of Monday's trade deadline.
Senga was actually very good through four innings allowing just one hit and no walks. Unfortunately it all fell apart in the fifth when issued back-to-back walks to start the inning. Jakob Marsee followed with a double to put the Marlins on the board with their first run of the game. Senga was then lifted in favor of Xzavion Curry who didn't exactly limit the damage. Two singles brought home two more runs and Miami held a 4-0 lead when the inning ended. That also closed the book on Senga's night who was charged with three of those runs. It's a shame because it was a positive step forward for the righty until the fifth, and perhaps he tired a bit towards the end of his outing.
After the Mets put a run on the board in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Marlins error and an A.J. Ewing RBI single, Curry gave the run right back the following inning on a Kyle Stowers home run.
Francisco Lindor countered with a solo shot of his own in the seventh but that was as close as the Mets would get. The offense wasn't necessarily shut down by Miami's pitchers. They had their chances they just couldn't capitalize on them. Luis Robert Jr. especially had a rough night. He struck out with runners on second and third and two-out in the fourth and grounded into a double play in the eighth when they needed baserunners. One night after being the hero he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. As the great Frank Sinatra once said 'That's life."
Nothing else of any importance happened in this game but its what is happening away from the field that is far more important for this organization right now. Get me some trades, and some photos of Spider-man!
