SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Brice Turang had three hits and two RBIs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the San Francisco Giants 8-2 on Tuesday night behind Logan Henderson.
Brewers rookie Luis Lara knocked in three runs and Jackson Chourio added two hits and two RBIs to help the NL Central leaders end a four-game road skid. Henderson had seven strikeouts and allowed two hits in 5 2/3 scoreless innings to win his first career start against San Francisco.
Bryce Eldridge hit his 11th home run for the Giants, a two-run shot that made it 8-2 in the eighth.
One of San Francisco's seven hits came when Heliot Ramos' high popup in the first fell between a pair of Milwaukee infielders.
Henderson (5-1) was sharp all night. The 24-year-old right-hander walked two and didn't allow a run for the second time this season in a start of five innings or longer.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Schmitt, the Giants' breakout star this season, was injured while trying to stop after taking a sharp turn around first base during Monday night's 3-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.
Initial tests were inconclusive, but Schmitt underwent an MRI before Tuesday night's game that revealed the extent of the injury. No timetable has been set for his return.
"Hasn't been dictated yet," Giants manager Tony Vitello said. "He's back there doing what he can. Still in the early stages of knowing exactly what will happen, but obviously he's going to miss a good chunk of time."
The 27-year-old Schmitt has been one of San Francisco's best players this season while filling several positions in the infield and outfield. He is batting .271 with a .784 OPS and has already set career highs for homers (21), RBIs (55), runs (47) and hits (105).

With the Major League Baseball trade deadline coming up Aug. 3, the Milwaukee Brewers are sitting in an obvious playoff spot, have a loaded farm system and would theoretically be players for some of the top names seemingly available on the trade market.
But can we really expect 2026 to look different from other trade deadlines?
Count Mark Feinsand of MLB.com among those who believe the Brewers will indeed be "aggressive" at the deadline, but what does that look like?
ESPN writer Jeff Passan put together "10 blockbuster deals that would rock the trade deadline" and arranged two deals involving a superstar going to Milwaukee. They would certainly count as aggressive.
Passan first proposed a deal that sends Detroit Tigers star left-hander Tarik Skubal to the Brewers for right-hander Logan Henderson, left fielder Josh Adamczewski and infielder Ricki Moneys. The latter two are among the more intriguing prospects in the Brewers organization, and Henderson is just graduating from prospect status into reliable major-league starter.

The New York Yankees offense is struggling right now, and Cody Bellinger's injury only makes things worse.
The Yankees are currently without Aaron Judge, Bellinger and Giancarlo Stanton. On top of that, they seem to have no actual solution for third base and shortstop, where Anthony Volpe and Ryan McMahon continue to struggle. Knowing Judge, Bellinger and Stanton could return soon, the Yankees are unlikely to add a superstar outfielder or designated hitter. However, adding an infielder could do wonders for the offense if that infielder were Luis Arraez.
Luckily for the Yankees, the San Francisco Giants will be sellers at the deadline, and Arraez is a rental they could look to deal away. He is hitting .326 with an .811 OPS on the year. He has improved his slugging while maintaining a high average. Not to mention, he is having an elite year defensively at second base. Defense was always seen as a downside for Arraez, but that is not the case this year.
How would Arraez fit in on the Yankees? Well, for starters, he would slot in at second base. That would allow the Yankees to move Chisholm to third base or shortstop, getting rid of either Volpe or McMahon as a regular. McMahon has already started to lose at-bats, so perhaps it's time the Yankees make a permanent change.

Baez missed several weeks with a right ankle sprain. He takes the roster spot of catcher Jake Rogers, who was designated for ***** ignment by the Tigers on Tuesday, per a team announcement.

Mead was certainly worth the price they paid in order to obtain his services, as his presence not only ensures there will be some added pop to the lineup but puts others in a position to succeed. If you're not convinced that he was worth giving up on starting pitcher Connelly Early, perhaps heed the words of chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on Sunday.
"I've tried to shift our goal… not to win the trade but to make our major league team better."
Mead makes them better, but not as good as they'll need to be to contend — which is why it is imperative that they continue both adding around the margins and taking swings at moves that can make them better both now and in the future.

A former Auburn infielder has inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates following the MLB draft.
Chris Rembert was selected No. 51 overall in the second round of the 2026 MLB Draft earlier this month by the Pittsburgh Pirates and has recently reached a deal with the Pirates, ending his collegiate career. According to MLB Pipeline senior writer Jim Callis, Rembert's deal with the Pirates is worth $2.4 million, over $460,000 more than the projected slot value.
Rembert was one of seven players from Auburn baseball's 2026 roster to be selected during the MLB draft earlier this month, joining the likes of pitchers Alex Petrovic, Ryan Hetzler, and Jett Johnston, and fellow infielder Eric Guevara. He was the first Auburn Tiger off the board, taken in the second round of the draft at No. 51, and is the first Tiger to sign a professional deal.
Rembert signed with Auburn as part of its loaded 2024 class and made an immediate impact. The Pensacola, Florida native started 114 of the 115 games he appeared in, mostly at second base. His Auburn career ends with a .344 average, 14 home runs, 92 RBI, and a .505 slugging percentage after signing with Auburn alongside Chase Fralick, Jackson Sanders, Bub Terrell, and Andreas Alvarez.
Deals for Petrovic, Hetzler, Johnston, and Auburn's other draft picks have yet to be announced.

The Boston Red Sox ripped off a 15-game win streak, tying a franchise record, before losing Game 2 of a doubleheader on Wednesday.
Regardless, their 15-1 run has them at 52-49 and in wild-card position. The win streak has saved the season, because if they had waited another week or so to heat up, they may have been sellers at the deadline. Instead, they are now expected to fill their needs at the deadline and set themselves up for a run.
"The Red Sox look to be headed for the buyer’s lane in light of their recent surge, which has been one of the best in team history," wrote MLB.com's Ian Browne on Thursday. "Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow is in the market for a bat. The question is: What position will that bat play? Catcher, middle infield and DH seem to be the best fits lineup-wise."
If Breslow wants a bat like Browne suggests, he could have his pick. Plenty of star hitters could be on the move this year, and the Red Sox have pieces to give up if they need to. Adding a middle infielder like Luis Arraez could be great for the Red Sox considering Marcelo Mayer's injury and woes at the plate.

Athletics rookie infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer is seemingly in good spirits after taking a brutal hit to the private area after a foul ball.
Kuroda-Grauer suffered a ruptured ******* in the Athletics' 5-2 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field in Phoenix on Monday, July 20. He underwent emergency surgery and was placed on the A's 10-day injured list.
The club said the 23-year-old is resting comfortably.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay visited Kuroda-Grauer in the hospital and told MLB.com's Martín Gallegos, who covers the A's, that the rookie is in "great spirits."
"He was joking. His personality is amazing," Kotsay said. "I think he might be the only player in history to (rupture) a ******* , stay in the game, get a hit and play another half inning of defense."

Chris Hacopian and Caden Sorrell both signed major rookie deals after being selected in the 2026 MLB Draft. Now another Aggie star has officially joined the list.
On Tuesday, former Texas A&M infielder Gavin Grahovac signed a contract worth $1,247,500. The deal comes in over $229,000 above the slot value for the eighty-first pick. Much like Hacopian, Grahovac was drafted by his hometown team, making the moment a childhood dream fulfilled.
Grahovac’s legacy in College Station is unique. He may not fit neatly into the category of an all-time Aggie great, but he is unquestionably beloved. If not for the injury that sidelined him during his sophomore season, he might have been right there with Jace LaViolette in the all-time home run conversation. Even with the setback, he finished his A&M career with 37 home runs, including 23 as a freshman and 22 as a junior.
His 2026 was the best of his career. He posted a slash line of .339/.429/.722 with a 1.150 OPS. That included 78 hits, 22 home runs, and 74 RBI on the season. The breakout year vaulted him into elite national company and earned him a long list of honors.

First, outfielder Mike Yastrzemski was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. That meant Atlanta had to cut someone from the roster.
According to a release from the NL East organization, infielder Kyle Farmer was released. The 10-year Major League veteran will become a free agent if he clears waivers.
Farmer, despite spending a decent chunk of the season on the active roster, was used sparingly by the Braves. He signed a minor league deal with Atlanta during the offseason.

ESPN's Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan named the Braves as a potential fit for the Los Angeles Angels' 25-year-old shortstop Zach Neto, with five other teams also tabbed as fits for the star infielder with a 30% chance of being traded.
"Chance of being traded: 30%... The Angels are at the very least listening, which is more than they've done at past deadlines," Passan and McDaniel write. "Best fits: Boston, Atlanta, Toronto, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, New York Yankees."

The Major League Baseball draft hurt the Auburn Tigers as two of their infield stars and a high school signee were selected. Auburn baseball is working to rebuild its infield by adding a player from the transfer portal late in the cycle.
Former UNLV infielder Cooper Sheff announced his commitment to Auburn via Instagram this week. Sheff is Auburn's third fielder signee in a haul that is headlined by pitchers.
Sheff, a native of Las Vegas, hit .295 for the Rebels last season with nine home runs, 38 RBI, and five stolen bases. He recorded multiple hits in 14 games last season. He reached a season-high four hits against Washington State on April 19, one day after recording three hits against the Cougars. Sheff also smashed two of his nine home runs in a road game at Northwestern on March 8.
Auburn second baseman Chris Rembert and third baseman Eric Guevara were both selected during the 2026 MLB Draft that took place last weekend, as was high school signee Jace Matacynski. The Tigers return shortstop Brandon McCraine and first baseman Ethin Bingaman for 2027, and will look to fit Sheff and Iowa transfer Ben Swails into the mix.

When Andy Pages of the Los Angeles Dodgers hit a grounder up the middle in the fifth inning, Clement ranged to his backhand side to snag it.
He then had to leap and throw to first, and the ball got there on the fly and in time for the out to end the frame.

Behind a quick start and a dominant staff performance that limited the National League to just 3 hits, the AL secured a 4-0 victory on Tuesday night in the 2026 MLB All-Star Game.
The AL bats wasted no time, striking for 3 runs in the top of the first. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger ripped a 2-run single to center field, then his teammate Ben Rice followed with an RBI knock, burying the NL in an early 3-0 hole.
From there, the contest settled into a pitching duel, with both sides unable to produce anything on offense. The Detroit Tigers have officially moved on from Jahmai Jones.
Just days after designating the veteran outfielder for **** ignment, the Tigers have traded Jones to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later. The move gives Jones a fresh opportunity while allowing Detroit to receive an **** et rather than risk losing him for nothing.
The Red Sox announced Tuesday that Jones has been added to their roster. Boston optioned infielder Nate Eaton to Triple A Worcester to make room on the active roster, while Jones fills an open spot on the club’s 40 man roster.
Because Jones is out of minor league options, Boston will keep him on its Major League roster.
The 28 year old now gets another chance to prove he can be a valuable contributor after struggling to find consistency with Detroit this season.

They have a few players who could be switching teams in the next few weeks, including Matt Chapman, Jung Hoo Lee, and Luis Arraez.
Due to his expiring contract, Arraez is the most likely Giants player to be traded. He's also having a great defensive season at second base, which makes him more valuable.
"Bemoaned for his league-worst defensive metrics and essentially relegated to strictly first base a year ago, Arráez bet on himself and joined San Francisco with the intention of playing second base again.

This weekend, nearly a dozen Texas A&M players were selected in the 2026 MLB Draft, including former Maryland transfer infielder Chris Hacopian, who was selected 11th overall by the Washington Nationals, and veteran RHP Weston Moss, who will join his teammate in Washington after the Nationals selected him in the 11th round.
The Aggies' top three hitters this season, Hacopian, Caden Sorrell, and Gavin Grahovac, were all picked in the first three rounds, with Sorrell going 62nd overall to the Chicago Cubs, while Grahovac, who missed all but one game during the 2025 season, looks like an absolute steal for the Los Angeles Angels, who selected him 81st overall in the top of the third round on Saturday.
Last season, Grahovac started all 57 games, slashing .339/.429/.722 with 22 home runs and 74 RBI, and led the Aggies with 78 hits and 26 multi-hit performances, which included 20 multi-RBI games. Compared to his freshman season, the California native looked more confident at the dish, as his .754 slugging percentage ranked first in the SEC.
Heading home to start out in the minor leagues, Grahovac's potential is through the roof. In full agreement with the D1Baseball staff, the versatile infielder's drop to the third round was one of several surprising outcomes but should not hinder his development, especially given his improvement in 2026.
"Even the much lessened swing and miss of Texas A&M’s Gavin Grahovac couldn’t elevate his value beyond No. 81 overall. As much as his pick was a surprise fall, it was a steal as far as we’re concerned. The Aggies’ slugger lowered his strikeout rate from 23.1% to 16.5% while raising his ISO. This dual improvement is rarely accomplished, especially in a major conference."

Florida baseball will be returning infielder Ethan Surowiec for next season.
The Gators' cleanup hitter announced his decision on social media just after the end of the MLB Draft on Sunday, July 12.
Surowiec, who re-signed with Florida Victorious last month, still participated in the MLB Draft combine and was a top 250 prospect.
Surowiec started all 62 games for Florida as he swapped between first and third base. In his lone season at Florida, he batted .317, with 14 doubles, 12 homers and drove in 63 runs. Surowiec now has three years of eligibility with the recent passing of the five-for-five rule.
The Gulfport, Mississippi native transferred in from Ole Miss this season. Last summer, Surowiec made a name for himself after being named the Northwoods League MVP, which featured him hitting 24 doubles and 52 RBIs.

LAWRENCE — Kansas baseball just saw Mathis Nayral be selected No. 402 overall in the 2026 MLB Draft, with him becoming the fourth player from the program to be picked this year.
The Toronto Blue Jays picked Nayral, a junior right-handed pitcher for the Jayhawks this past season, in the 13th round. Nayral arrived as a transfer from Cochise College, and became another junior college addition that's played well for coach Dan Fitzgerald at KU. With the Jayhawks, Nayral enjoyed a season that saw the program win the Big 12 Conference's regular season and tournament ******* les before going on to with the Lawrence Regional in the NCAA tournament.

Nayral, whose season with Kansas ended in a NCAA super regional in Lawrence, finished with a 4.96 ERA across 17 starts and 18 appearances. He had a 4-3 record. He also had 71 strikeouts across 69 innings pitched.
Nayral follows junior infielder/outfielder Tyson LeBlanc being drafted by Detroit in the seance round, junior right-handed pitcher Dominic Voegele being drafted by Baltimore in the third round and junior infielder/outfielder Brady Ballinger being drafted by Detroit in the seventh round. It's an impressive run for a Kansas team that's raised the level of expectations in Lawrence quite a bit in recent years. Now, Nayral has the chance to pursue a professional career.

All-Star Weekend isn't just about the major leagues. Before Tuesday's Midsummer Classic, some of baseball's top prospects will take the field in today's All-Star Futures Game. The Brewers will be represented by their top two prospects, infielders Jesús Made and Luis Peña, as both look to show why they're among the game's brightest young talents.
Made, the consensus top prospect in baseball, will bat third and start at shortstop for the National League in his second straight Futures Game appearance. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in last year's 4-2 victory and has followed that up by slashing .276/.347/.442 with nine home runs in 308 at-bats for Double-A Biloxi this season.
Joining Made in the National League's starting lineup will be Peña, Pipeline's No. 18 prospect, who will bat eighth and start at third base in his Futures Game debut. The 19-year-old has missed significant time this season due to health issues, but he's been productive whenever he's been on the field, slashing .304/.393/.392 through 102 at-bats with High-A Wisconsin.

After being swept in yesterday's doubleheader in Pittsburgh, the Brewers will look to bounce back and finish off the first half of the season with their 60th victory today. Sitting at 59-36, the Brewers currently sit six games ahead of the Cubs atop the NL Central, and no matter what happens today, the first half of the season can only be considered a success.
Left-hander Robert Gasser will take the mound for Milwaukee, as Jacob Misiorowski was scratched yesterday due to what the team described as "fatigue." Gasser, 27, has made eight starts this year, with a 2-3 record, 4.15 ERA, 4.90 FIP, and 40 strikeouts over 43 1/3 innings. He's coming off one of his best starts of the season in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader, as he went 7 2/3 innings with two runs allowed on four hits and a walk, striking out four.
Right-hander Paul Skenes will oppose Gasser, and while he's still one of the best pitchers in baseball, he hasn't been quite as dominant here in his third season. Across 19 starts, Skenes is 7-8 with a 3.58 ERA, 2.97 FIP, and 123 strikeouts over 103 innings. He's had a rough go of it lately (at least by Skenes' standards), allowing at least two earned runs in his last six starts. The Pirates are also just 1-9 in his last 10 outings.
A few roster updates to close out the first half: the Brewers have acquired infielder Braden Shewmake from the Astros in exchange for cash. Shewmake, 28, was a first-round pick by the Braves in 2019 but hasn't exactly panned out in parts of three seasons in the majors. He's appeared in 30 games with Houston this year, hitting .256/.272/.423 with three homers, four doubles, nine RBIs, and 10 runs scored across 83 plate appearances. He was designated for ***** ignment on Friday.
To clear a spot on the roster, the Brewers designated utility man Greg Jones for ***** ignment. Jones, also a former first-round pick, has just two hits in 23 at-bats with the Brewers this year, as he's struck out 10 times. He was an emergency call-up to fill in on the infield after David Hamilton's injury last week, but with the acquisition of Shewmake, he now finds himself DFA'd for the second time this season.

Though six Vanderbilt baseball signees were selected during Day 1 of the 2026 MLB Draft, several notable signees remain on the board.
Eric Booth Jr. (first round), Aiden Ruiz (second), Sean Duncan (second), Luke Williams (third), Keon Johnson (third) and Collin Bland (fourth) were selected in the first four rounds on July 11, and all are likely to sign and begin their pro careers rather than play for the Commodores.
But several other high-profile signees, including pitchers Joseph Contreras and Bo Holloway, outfielders Noah Wilson and James Tronstein and infielder Gunner Skelton, remain on the board. Although some could get drafted early on July 12 in the fifth or sixth rounds, most likely will go to Vanderbilt at this point.
The Commodores had the No. 1-ranked signing class by Perfect Game and Baseball America entering the draft.
Several elite players remain in the class.

With their fourth and final pick on day one of the 2026 MLB Draft, the Seattle Mariners opted for UNC-Wilmington third baseman Trevor Lucas.
Lucas possesses an excellent blend of hitting ability and defensive chops that made him an attractive candidate for an M’s farm system lacking in depth at the hot corner. Comped to Ben Williamson by Scott Hunter, Lucas is a plus defender in the field and could bounce around the diamond if need be, but his arm strength and lateral movement should lend themselves well to wherever he happens to be playing. The M’s are bullish on his abilities on the dirt and view him as an ***** et defensively.
Offensively, Lucas posts some eye popping underlying metrics. Making a ton of contact and producing some very solid exit velocities, Lucas complements his raw batting ability with a sound approach at the plate, limiting chase and drawing a healthy amount of walks. Lucas walked more than he struck out this season, a trait that typically tends to translate to the professional ranks pretty well.
The feel to hit for Lucas is evident; he frequently barrels the baseball, and the M’s think there’s even more power to unlock once he’s in a professional development setting. The foundation for a very enticing prospect is certainly there, but proving it against a higher level of competition will be the next step for the former Seahawk infielder.
Lucas has reportedly agreed to terms with the M’s, coming in at an underslot $450,000 figure. This puts the Mariners roughly $450,000 under their allotted bonus pool entering day two, a decent chunk of change that should afford them some flexibility.
