Former Los Angeles TV news anchor Harold Greene has died, according to a social media post by his daughter, Courtney Greene. He was 82.
"Our beloved husband, father, uncle and friend has signed off for the last time," she wrote in a Facebook post. "It is with heavy hearts that we share the news that Harold passed away last night. My mom and I were by his side, and there was an extraordinary amount of love in the room. We have a feeling he's already settling into the great newsroom in the sky, no doubt with a few suggestions on how things should be run. He was so very loved, and we know he will be missed by many."

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said a report was filed on Aug. 31.
A Democratic congressional candidate in Arizona says she was raped over the summer while trying to repair a campaign sign.
Bernadette Greene-Placentia, who is running in the state's 8th district to try to unseat GOP Rep. Abe Hamadeh, told the Phoenix New Times, a local news outlet, that she was attacked at around 2 a.m. as she was walking toward a campaign sign in a parking lot in Sun City, north of Phoenix.
Greene-Placentia said she was attacked, subdued and then woke up to find that she was being raped by an unknown ***** ailant.
Greene-Placentia told the news outlet she reported the ***** ault to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, and that she chose to tell her story because she had been talking about fighting for Arizona residents while campaigning "and I didn't feel like I could keep saying that if I weren't also fighting for women that are victims of ***** ual ***** ault."

Sabrina Carpenter brought playful charm and vintage romance to Bernadette Antwerp's latest knitwear campaign. The singer posed for the brand's Instagram page wearing a soft green knit mini dress. Choosing a daring, open-back silhouette, she commanded instant attention with her effortless take on countryside style. Her striking floral-knit look highlights the label's signature charm while making a memorable style statement for the brand.
For the shoot, Sabrina Carpenter wore a green Bernadette Antwerp knit minidress as she posed on a wooden porch overlooking a lake. The fitted bodice featured white daisy embroidery across the chest and shoulders, along with a bow at the back of the neckline. The open-back design extended from her shoulders to her waist before wrapping around the hips. The dress finished with a short hemline. The "Espresso" singer completed the outfit with a white crochet headscarf tied loosely around her head. Her blonde hair fell in loose waves beneath the scarf.
Carpenter leaned against the porch railing while glancing back over her shoulder for the camera. For the brand's photoshoot, she stood framed by greenery and a quiet lake view, striking a relaxed, sun-drenched pose. Ultimately, the dress gave Carpenter's outdoor shoot a breezy edge, with no major jewelry or accessories competing with the dress's standout cutout.
Carpenter constantly redefines playful, girl-next-door style with her signature charm. She easily transforms a demure floral knit into a surprisingly daring moment. Clearly, the soft green fabric caught the golden evening light with every pose. She effortlessly combines delicate embroidery with a dramatic cutout and relaxed countryside styling. Undoubtedly, Carpenter delivered one of Bernadette Antwerp's standout campaign looks. She continues to show how to wear vintage-inspired knitwear with effortless allure.

The Colorado Rockies entered Detroit hoping to snap a seven-game losing streak on the road. Despite a solid start from their rookie pitcher and an offense that out-hit the Tigers, the Rockies bullpen collapsed in the middle innings, leading to a 6-2 defeat. They are now just eight games away from losing 100 games for the fourth season in a row.
Making his fourth big-league start, Mason Adams continued to impress in a Rockies uniform with a fairly quick and efficient outing.
The night started promisingly as Adams struck out the side in the bottom of the first inning. In the second, he allowed a leadoff single to Riley Greene and a one-out walk to Max Clark but managed to escape with a ground ball double play. He then worked a quick 1-2-3 third inning followed by a quick fourth inning where he faced the minimum.

Through the first four innings, Adams had thrown just 52 pitches with four groundouts and looked primed to go the deepest into the game than he had previously. Unfortunately, he had to labor in the fifth inning with 25 pitches.

The Tigers needed some of their big names to get it together and win them a game. Framber Valdez answered the call with seven shutout frames on Saturday, while Riley Greene homered twice and drove in four in a four-hit game. The bullpen only needed to go two innings to hold a 6-0 lead, and they did so with no trouble.
The Tigers already saw the weaker end of the Guardians rotation, so this was only going to get tougher on Saturday against Parker Messick, and then Gavin Williams on Sunday. With Framber Valdez going, the defense would need to be sharp, while Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark both got a needed day off against the left-hander.
Gleyber Torres and Hao-Yu Lee started the game off by striking out, but Riley Greene crushed a Messick cutter over the left center field wall for a solo shot and a quick 1-0 lead.

Steven Kwan grounded out to Lee to start the bottom of the first. Angel Martinez dumped a little broken bat bliner between Spencer Torkelson and Javier Báez for a single. Báez, playing second, collected it but Valdez wasn't covering first expecting the ball in the air to be caught. Jose Ramirez lined out to Ben Malgeri in right field. Jo Adell got a bat broken as well but fouled off a 1-2 sinker in on his hands. A high fastball missed, but a good curveball whiffed him.

The Texas Tech football team knew it would have one new starting safety this season. The Red Raiders actually are beginning the season with two.
Peyton Morgan went through pre-game warmups with the first team at free safety and Malik Esquerra at boundary safety before Tech's season opener against Abilene Christian at Galaxy Stadium. Those two and Oliver Miles III had been competing for one open safety job throughout the off-season.

Von Miller found a unique way to get his preferred jersey number with the Dallas Cowboys: He made a teammate a part-owner of his chicken farm.
Miller will wear No. 40 this season after striking a deal with fullback Hunter Luepke, who will switch to No. 30, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Instead of paying Luepke cash, Miller offered him a stake in Greener Pastures Chicken, his Texas-based poultry business.

Real Madrid's deadline day was not as eventful as many expected, and no major arrival was even on the radar for the night.
What did unfold, however, was a chain of youth player sales and windfalls from second-order transfers, all of which helped add coins to the club's coffers.
One such move, which was expected for a long time but finally closed last night, was the departure of Manuel Angel – the former captain of the Castilla side. Fulham have been close to signing him for a few days now, and Alvaro Arbeloa eventually got his player on deadline day.
Taking to his Instagram after finalising his departure from Real Madrid, Manuel Angel penned a heartfelt note to the fans and the club as he moves on to greener pastures.
"After 8 years, the time has come to close a chapter that has left an eternal mark on my life," his letter began.

Riley Greene returns to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday, September 1, as one of the club's call-ups after the rosters expand. The three-time All-Star has been on the IL for almost three weeks with a hamstring injury, and the Tigers have been struggling mightily in his absence. The team went 4-14 in the 18 games since the injury, and have gone from fringe contenders in the playoff hunt to non-factors in the Wild Card race. Although the bullpen has continued its season-long struggle during this time, the team's offense has really struggled. Here is how he can help his team as Riley Greene returns from the IL.
The Tigers are currently in fourth place in the AL Central and are just one win up from the Kansas City Royals, who have dwelt in the basement all season long. They sit six whole games back from the last Wild Card spot as Riley Greene returns, and are really struggling at the plate. Although Dillon Dingler has been one of the best catchers in baseball, he hit a severe slump right around the time that Greene hit the IL. Others like Spencer Torkelson have found it tough to get their game going all season long. Meanwhile, injuries have also been a factor as Kerry Carpenter and as mentioned Greene have found themselves hitting the IL in recent weeks.
Although he hasn't hit the same heights as the last two seasons, Riley Greene remains one of the Tigers' most productive bats. Through 177 games in 2026, he's slugged 16 home runs and driven in 54 runners, with an OPS of .816, making him the team's most dangerous hitter this season. Rookies Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark have made waves in recent weeks, but the team can't rely on their young players to deliver when it really matters, that's when veterans need to step up to the plate, literally.
Jun 3, 2026; St. Petersburg, Florida, USA; Detroit Tigers left fielder Riley Greene (31) celebrates with his teammates after defeating the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Mandatory Credit: Jonathan Dyer-Imagn Images
McGonigle continues to make a great case for AL Rookie of the Year honors, and Clark who has collected 23 hits in his first 28 games in the big leagues. They will get a boost as Riley Greene returns to lengthen this lineup and give protection to the two of them, as well as the struggling Dingler and Torkelson. Knowing that Greene is in the lineup is going to make pitchers want to challenge these other batters a bit more than they have, so the other starters should see more fastballs in the zone. Fans will worry whether or not it is too late for 2026.

A football player of William Jewell College passed away on Saturday following his collapse on the sidelines of the school's season-opener game just minutes after he scored a touchdown, the school said.
Junior running back MicahJo Barnett received medical help at Greene Stadium and was then transported to the nearest hospital by an ambulance, where he was declared dead. Liberty authorities said the medical team responded to the player 20 minutes after kickoff but provided no other details. He was 21 years old.
The game against Fort Lewis College, another NCAA Division II squad, was stopped and later canceled. Barnett scored the touchdown by running for 1 yard with 5:15 left in the first quarter, and play was interrupted with 4:32 remaining after Fort Lewis punts went out of bounds, according to online match statistics. He gained 30 yards in six carries, and William Jewell led the score 7-0.
"William Jewell College and the Liberty community mourn the passing of MicahJo Barnett. Our thoughts and prayers are with MicahJo's family, teammates, friends, coaches, and faculty and staff," said the school in its statement. Liberty Fire EMS stated that Barnett showed seizure-like symptoms, as reported by Fox4 KC.
The cause of death is still not clear. A college spokeswoman told Newsweek that Barnett had no known pre-existing condition that could have prevented him from playing, and that no further information about the nature or cause of the emergency is available at this time. Barnett was enrolled in the business administration program and was connected to Liberty, the city where William Jewell's campus is located. While being a senior at Liberty North, he helped the Eagles win a Missouri state championship.

Barnett scored a touchdown in his college's season opener against Fort Lewis College at Greene Stadium, converting a 1-yard run with 5:15 left in the first quarter.
Unfortunately, he would collapse on the sideline 20 minutes later with seizure-like symptoms, and despite receiving treatment and being rushed to a nearby hospital, the 20-year-old RB was ****** ounced dead.
This news has shaken the entire world of American football.
Former NFL star Robert Griffin III is one of the only notable NFL legends or current players to publicly react to this incredibly sad development, sending prayers to MicahJo Barnett's family and friends.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered their preseason finale with several roster spots and position battles still to sort out. Their 19-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars may have provided some answers, although not necessarily the ones Tampa Bay wanted. The Buccaneers finished with only 120 total yards, went 2 of 12 on third down and failed to score. Still, there were a few positives buried inside an otherwise difficult night.
If anyone helped themselves Friday night, it was Jack Pyburn. The rookie edge rusher finished with two sacks and three tackles for loss, consistently finding his way into Jacksonville's backfield. Tampa Bay's defensive front produced most of the team's bright spots, finishing with four sacks as Anthony Nelson and Josiah Green also got to the quarterback. Pyburn's performance was especially important as final roster decisions approach. Tampa Bay has spent the offseason rebuilding its front seven, and his ability to provide energy and production off the edge gives the coaching staff something to consider as they build the final 53. Pyburn has certainly played himself into a position where the coaching staff has to find him a spot.
Jalon Daniels had arguably his biggest opportunity of the preseason after being given the start, but he wasn't able to capitalize on it. Daniels completed 8 of 15 passes for 57 yards while taking three sacks and losing a botched snap, a glaring issue over the preseason. After helping lead comeback victories in Tampa Bay's first two preseason games, Daniels struggled to generate anything consistently against Jacksonville. He wasn't helped by his receivers, either. Dean Patterson IV and Kameron Johnson dropped third-down passes early, while Garrett Greene also failed to secure a catchable ball. Daniels' previous performances showed why Tampa Bay has been intrigued by the undrafted rookie, but Friday reminded everyone he remains a developmental quarterback. If there was a legitimate opportunity to overtake Jake Browning for the backup job behind Baker Mayfield, the finale did not do anything to solidify his case.
There isn't much positive to say about an offense that finishes with 87 yards and zero points. Tampa Bay punted on six of its first seven possessions and struggled to protect its quarterbacks, sustain drives or establish the running game. The Buccaneers didn't record a single first down in the second half as Jacksonville's defensive front controlled the line of scrimmage. The offensive line remained a major issue, and receivers failed to come down with the ball. Then came the special teams breakdown that put an exclamation point on the night. Michael Wortham returned a punt 63 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, extending Jacksonville's lead to 19-0 and turning an already frustrating night into a nightmare final score.

Leeds United Women begin their FA WNL Cup campaign with a visit to rivals Halifax Women in Group T on Thursday evening.
The two sides meet in the cup for the second season running, after a 1-0 win for the Whites at Garforth last term where Darcie Greene's incredible solo goal proved the difference.
Last time out for Leeds was a convincing 3-0 win on the road at Chester-le-Street Town Ladies with Amy Woodruff netting a hattrick to guarantee the three points and take home the match ball.
The centre-forward had the Whites in the driving seat at the break after converting instinctively from Darcie Greene's mazy run down the left flank, before bagging two more in the closing stages of the match - another Greene cross tap-in and a glancing header.
The hosts are coming into the clash off the back of a 4-2 win over Norton and Stockton Ancients on home turf, having three first half goals complimented by a stoppage time fourth.

Newcastle United begin the 2026-27 Premier League season against Liverpool, hosting the Reds at St James' Park on Sunday, Aug. 23.
The fixture marks Matthias Jaissle's first competitive match in charge following a summer that saw Eddie Howe depart and Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon leave the club on their way to greener pastures.
Newcastle finished a disappointing 12th in the Premier League last season and ended their preseason run with three games without a win, losing to Everton and Bayer Leverkusen before drawing with Strasbourg — all of those matchups already managed by Jaissle. The Magpies, however, have avoided defeat in their last four Premier League opening fixtures, winning three and drawing one.
Liverpool also begin the season under a new manager, with former Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola replacing Arne Slot. The visitors finished the preseason with back-to-back clean sheets against Como and are unbeaten in their last 13 opening-day league fixtures.
A couple hours before kickoff, it was revealed captain Dan Burn has suffered an injury that will sideline him for a few weeks. Meanwhile, Joelinton will miss the opener for Newcastle with a groin injury, while Tino Livramento remains unavailable with a calf problem. New arrivals Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba and Amar Dedic — the latter of whom will start — will likely play a role on Sunday, while Lukas Hornicek is expected to start in goal as he's done in all preseason friendlies under Jaissle.

Following a rampant 7-0 opening day win over Thornaby Women the week prior, Simon Wood has named an unchanged starting XI for the clash, but with one change on the bench as summer signing Abi Coley makes the squad.
New addition Holly Mears once again starts in goal, with a back four of Darcie Greene, Emily Cassidy, Izzy Dean and skipper Shauna Legge ahead of her.
Alice Hughes, Ellie White and Abbie Langstaff make up the midfield three, proceeded by a frontline of Chloe Dixon, Amy Woodruff and Drew Greene.
On the bench, goalkeeper pair of Carrie Simpson and Charlotte Oates are joined by Kath Smith, Ella Harris and Alayna Millard, as well as fresh face Coley who is involved for the first time.

PITTSBURGH – The Detroit Tigers miss Riley Greene, as anyone who is breathing will tell you – including manager A.J. Hinch, who feels the left-fielder's absence as he makes his lineup card out every day.
"You notice it because he's a tremendous player and because he plays every single day," Hinch said Monday, Aug. 17, "he's a mainstay in the middle of our order. He's definitely missed. Like a lot of teams, when you lose a mainstay, you feel it."
The loss is even more acute, he pointed out, when the Tigers face a string of right-handed starters, as they will at PNC Park on Monday-Wednesday. Greene doesn't just provide power, he provides protection as a lefty. His absence isn't why Kevin McGonigle and Dillon Dingler have been scuffling lately – especially Dingler, who went 1-for-34 before doubling against the White Sox on Sunday.

Amy Woodruff secured herself a brace on opening day against Thornaby Women, helping Leeds United Women to an emphatic 7-0 win in the FA WNL Division One North.
Woodruff opened the scoring in the first half as she finished off a really neat team move starting from Darcie Greene at left back, before adding the seventh in stoppage time to cap off the victory.
Speaking after the final whistle, our number 14 said: "I think we grew into the game definitely. I think the first 10 or 15 minutes showed quite a few nerves, but it's opening day of the season.
"We know how long the season is, we stuck to the task and we got rewarded by the girls today, and it's a great start to the season.
"I think preseason builds a lot to this first game, no matter who your opponent is. It's important that we've worked well in pre-season, which we have done. Everything's been so positive in camp and we were just so ready to get going today."

The New York Jets (0-1) opened the 2026 NFL preseason with the goal of putting forth a better product than they did during the this campaign. New York made various moves over the course of the offseason to improve the team, such as trading for quarterback Geno Smith, but their first test came Friday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) and it didn't go as planned.
The Jets lost to the Buccaneers 24-16 mostly with players like quarterback Brady Cook, who are competing for playing time for next season.
However, the story of the game was Smith not starting. It was fourth-round rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik who started instead. With his effort put forward, Klubnik was the standout.
Quarterback Jalon Daniels led the way for the Buccaneers competing 10-of-15 passes for 111 yards while wide receiver Garrett Greene caught 4-of-7 targets for 54 yards. Like the Jets, the Bucs did not play their starting quarterback in Baker Mayfield either.
With that, here is Jets Wire's stock report following Week 1 of the preseason:

Kevin McGonigle drove in three runs and the host Detroit Tigers won for the eighth time in 10 games, topping the Cleveland Guardians 6-4 on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
McGonigle had a two-run double and an RBI single, and Javier Baez scored two runs as the Tigers continued their push for a playoff berth.
Tigers All-Star outfielder Riley Greene left the game after the second inning with right hamstring tightness. Greene was hit by a pitch on his right leg during the inning but still scored from first on a double by Spencer Torkelson.
Drew Anderson gave up one run and four hits in four innings as Detroit's starting pitcher. Jacob Waguespack (1-1) pitched two scoreless innings to notch the victory. Kenley Jansen escaped a ninth-inning jam for his 14th save.
Chase DeLauter had three hits, including a solo homer, for Cleveland. Jo Adell drove in two runs, including his first homer since he was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels at the trade deadline. Steven Kwan added two hits and scored twice.

The Cincinnati Reds expect to learn more sometime Wednesday about the long-term prognosis of All-Star pitcher Hunter Greene after he undergoes surgery for his badly damaged elbow – specifically whether the extent of the surgery could sideline him all of next season.
Greene, who began experiencing soreness after his fifth start since returning from his first injured-list stretch this season, was to have the surgery in Los Angeles the morning of Aug. 12 with Dr. Neal ElAttrache performing the operation.
Reds schedule Chicago White Sox Forget September. The Reds are already being pushed by their August schedule
If the damage is severe enough to require Tommy John reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament that is all but certain to mean Greene's return to the rotation would be pushed to at least early 2028. It would be the second Tommy John surgery of his professional career (also in the minors).
A less severe outcome could mean an internal brace procedure for the UCL that typically requires less rehab time but still would mean missing most of next season.

The Detroit Tigers pulled All-Star left fielder Riley Greene after he was hit by a pitch in the second inning of the series-opener against the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
In his first and only at-bat against Guardians starter Tanner Bibee, a 3-2 fastball came too far inside and hit Greene in the lower right leg. It looked real bad at first, but in the slow-motion replay you could see the pitch at least partially hit the leg guard he was wearing. Greene took a second in the box, but waved off manager A.J. Hinch and ran down to first base with a big applause.
Greene continued his running with a trip from first base to home on an RBI double from first baseman Spencer Torkelson, giving the Tigers the game's first run. Greene sprinted around the bases seemingly without issue.
But he remained in the third-base dugout for the top of the third inning. Ben Malgeri took Greene's place in left field for the top of the third. Cleveland evened the game at 1-1 with a no-doubt Chase DeLauter solo home run off Tigers starter Drew Anderson in the third.
Greene has been an iron man for the Tigers. The three-time All-Star corner outfielder had appeared in 116 of the Tigers' 118 games so far this season, either in left field or as a designated hitter. Greene is hitting .273 with 16 home runs and 54 RBIs on the season.
