WASHINGTON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - The Trump administration has proposed eliminating a 60-day grace period that allows certain immigrants, including skilled workers on H-1B visas, to stay in the United States and find a new sponsor after losing their job, according to a government notice posted online on Thursday.
Under the planned rule change, published in the Federal Register by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, those with H-1B and certain other temporary work visas would have to leave the country as soon as their employment ends — a potential blow to top American tech companies that rely heavily on foreign workers.
It is the latest step by U.S. President Donald Trump to limit legal immigration since returning to office in January 2025. His administration has also introduced higher visa fees for skilled workers and recently paused immigrant visa appointments at U.S. missions globally while it implements a new training program.
Companies affected by the change could see some disruption, DHS wrote in its proposal, but it said the jobs could go to American workers instead. In some situations, immigrant workers who leave could potentially reapply if their employer petitions for them, it added.

I have spent much of this week watching Australian coverage of the NFL and scrolling through social media posts as the 49ers and Rams prepare to play the first regular-season game in Australia. The coverage has been entertaining, enthusiastic and occasionally educational. There have been explanations of the rules, breakdowns of the equipment and attempts to introduce American football to a country that already has a sport called football.
The Aussies are excited. Nearly 100,000 people are expected to fill the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Moreover, the NFL has taken over the city. The Jonas Brothers will perform at halftime, and Tourism Australia has built an advertising campaign around the game featuring wildlife conservationist and television personality Robert Irwin. He's the son of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin. In addition, Netflix will distribute the game globally.
It should be a spectacular event. I'm just not convinced it proves football has become a global sport.
This season, the NFL is staging nine regular-season games in seven countries outside the United States. That represents an extraordinary expansion from the occasional London game of the past. The league is no longer simply testing international markets. Moreover, overseas games have become an important part of its schedule, television strategy and marketing machine.
However, more games in more countries don't automatically mean football has developed deep roots in those places.

It looks like the American consumer has more to worry about than food recalls and cyclospora—a new study found that even the packaging the food comes in may pose some health concerns.
Out of over 15,000 food contact chemicals (FCCs), 1,222 or 8% can pose serious health risks, according to a recent study published in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Science & Technology. Some of these FCCs, which in general are "substances that come into contact with food, such as through food packaging, processing, storage or other handling," per the FDA, were found to be hazardous to human health.
Researchers from the nonprofit Food Packaging Forum Foundation, which conducted the study, found at least 2,160 chemicals regularly contact food and "migrate into foodstuffs." Using guidelines from the UN's Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS), researchers found some of the chemicals related to food packaging and other materials were "carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic to reproduction, harmful to specific organs after repeated exposure, [and] endocrine disrupting."
That's not the only concerning part. The researchers found that 13,211 of the 15,159 known food-contact chemicals lacked harmonized hazard data. That means the scientists could not determine from the available data whether those chemicals met the study's criteria for being hazardous.
"There's a lot of ways of establishing whether something is hazardous or not, and some methods are based very much just on computer models, looking at the structure, predicting something. And others are based on in vitro tests," Dr. Helene Wiesinger, scientific communication officer at the nonprofit and one of the researchers on the study, told Fortune. "And in some sense, the data that we used?' So this is the data we used, and the problem we ran into at that point was that there were huge data lags."

The International League T20 (ILT20) Season 5 was officially launched with a glittering event in Dubai, with fast-bowling legends Brett Lee and Shoaib Akhtar among the star attractions on an evening celebrating the league's rapid rise and growing influence across the Gulf region.
The event brought together leading figures from cricket, sport, business and government, with ILT20 chairman Khalid Al Zarooni and league commissioner, ICC board director and ECB general secretary Mubashshir Usmani highlighting the tournament's contribution to the development and expansion of cricket in the UAE and the wider region.
Al Zarooni reflected on the league's growth while thanking its stakeholders and partners.
"What began as a dream has grown into one of the world's leading cricket leagues, bringing together top players and major franchises, while helping grow cricket in the UAE, the region and beyond," he said.
He also acknowledged the support of franchise owners, commercial and strategic partners, with a special mention for Zee Network, while welcoming SPORTFIVE as a new commercial partner.
A special panel discussion hosted by former New Zealand international Simon Doull explored the changing landscape and future of cricket in the region and globally.
The panel featured Usmani, Dr Mohamed Abu Hamra, Eisa Sharif of the Dubai Sports Council, ZEE Entertainment Enterprises Deputy CEO and CFO Mukund Galgali, SportFive President Venu Nair and Bisleri Global Director Sales & Marketing Tushar Malhotra.
Doull later brought Lee and Shoaib together for another engaging discussion, with the two legendary fast bowlers speaking about the ILT20's growing impact on UAE and regional cricket.
The pair also looked back on their playing careers, recalling an era in which their blistering pace made them two of the most feared fast bowlers in world cricket.
The evening also featured a spell-binding performance by celebrity mentalist Karan Singh Magic, while the league unveiled its new brand identity for Season 5.
Season 5 will be played in November and December across the UAE's three iconic venues — Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Defending champions Desert Vipers will enter the fifth season aiming to retain their crown. Gulf Giants won the inaugural season, followed by MI Emirates in Season 2 and Dubai Capitals in Season 3.

China's largest new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer BYD Auto reported an 18% rise in global sales to 440,293 units in August 2026, marking the fourth consecutive month of growth for the company following eight months of declines. Last month's growth followed a 22% surge in July, as overseas sales continued to strengthen - offsetting continued weak demand and fast-rising competition in its home market.
Domestic sales fell by 14% year-on-year to 250,827 units in August, while overseas sales surged by 134% to 189,466 vehicles, accounting for 43% of the company's global sales.
In the first eight months of 2026, BYD sold a total of 2,668,015 vehicles globally, down by almost 7% from last year's 2,863,876 units, with domestic sales plunging by 33% to 1,505,755 units from 2,233,148 units in the same period last year. Overseas sales surged by 86% to 1,162,260 units year-to-date, after growing by 130% to 630,728 units previously.
BYD is in the process of switching its products to its second-generation Blade Battery, which features flash charging capabilities. The transition has caused some production bottlenecks in recent months, according to local reports. The company is also expanding its presence in the premium BEV segment, with the launch of the Dynasty Da Tang D-segment flagship SUV in July.
BYD has set a target of further increasing its overseas sales to 2.5 million vehicles in 2027, up from an expected 2.0 million units in 2026, helped by an expanded shipping fleet and rising production abroad, with the company's plant in Hungary scheduled to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2026.

TAIPEI, Sept 7 (Reuters) - Taiwan flexed its chip diplomacy muscles at a major trade show last week, portraying itself as a democratic and reliable supplier for the AI revolution, while signalling a willingness to share the benefits of its semiconductor prowess with like-minded partners.
Home to companies like TSMC whose chips power AI applications, diplomatically isolated Taiwan has long sought to leverage its tech prowess to garner international support, something Beijing routinely seeks to block saying the island is merely one of its provinces.
But Taiwan also faces pressure from the United States, its most important international backer and arms supplier, to shift more chip manufacturing there. That comes as TSMC is investing $265 billion in factories in the state of Arizona.
President Lai Ching-te, who, unusually, spoke at two separate events on the same day at the SEMICON Taiwan trade show, said Taiwanese companies were expanding globally to "let resilience create shared prosperity", and that the island's chip strength was based on democracy and rule of law.

Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO) is one of the best-known companies in the world, thanks to its namesake beverage brand, so it needs little introduction. However, what's most impressive right now is the stock's performance. It is up 28% over the past year, as of this writing. The average consumer staples stock is only up 5% over that span. Even the S&P 500 index (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) is "only" up 20%. After a run like that, is Coca-Cola a buy, hold, or sell?
Coca-Cola is a well-run business. It is one of the world's largest consumer staples companies. It is globally diversified and has industry-leading capabilities in distribution, marketing, and innovation. The company's fundamental strength is evident in its status as a Dividend King, with 64 consecutive annual dividend increases. The only consumer staples peer with a better record is Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG), but P&G doesn't make food. So, Coca-Cola is the food company with the best dividend record.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
If you want to own industry-leading businesses, Coca-Cola should be on your short list. And, with an above-market yield of 2.4%, you could easily justify adding it to your portfolio. That's particularly true given recent results, with organic revenue growth of 6% in the second quarter of 2026, even as consumers tighten their belts. In fact, Coca-Cola raised its full-year guidance despite the broader food industry's struggles.
Certainly, if you have owned Coca-Cola for years, selling it right when it is performing so well as a business probably isn't something you should be considering. Unless, of course, the stock's valuation was running ahead of its historical norms. But that's not the case.

Ryanair, the biggest low-fare airline in Europe, on Wednesday lowered its winter traffic target to reduce exposure to high unhedged oil prices, and warned the some of its less well-hedged competitors could struggle to survive this winter amid high fuel costs.
Since the Iran war slashed deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products from the Middle East, rising jet fuel prices have eaten into the profitability of all airlines globally.
Ryanair is one of the most hedged airlines, with about 80% of fuel costs hedged at $67 per barrel. However, the remaining unhedged 20% is highly exposed to the jet fuel prices currently trading at about $140 per barrel, Ryanair said in its August 2026 traffic stats.
In light of the high unhedged oil prices, "it is sensible to strategically reduce the Group's exposure to unhedged jet fuel during the unprofitable winter schedule (from Nov. to Mar.)," the budget airline said.
Ryanair cut its winter traffic target to 214 million from 216 million passengers, expecting traffic to be broadly flat year-over-year.

The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note rose more than 3 basis points Tuesday to 4.79%. Driven higher by concerns over the latest flare-up in the war against Iran and its effects on fuel costs and inflation, the yield touched its highest level since January 2025 in trading during the day.
The continuing bond selloff has driven up government borrowing costs around the world. Eshe Nelson of The New York Times noted today that ******* an is seeing 10-year yields above 3% for the first time in 30 years and Germany now has the highest 10-year rates since 2011 (see the Times's chart below).
"A combination of factors are prompting investors to demand higher returns to hold government debt: a flood of borrowing by the world's richest nations, expanding budget deficits, persistent inflation and few signs that countries are able or willing to take steps to improve these conditions," Nelson wrote.
Ulrike Hoffmann-Burchardi, chief investment officer of the Americas at UBS, said she expects to continue to see heightened volatility in the bond market. "With no clear path to reopening the Strait after six months of war, inflation worries remain elevated," she said in a note, per CNBC. "Uncertainty over the Federal Reserve's policy outlook, fiscal concerns, and rising AI-related debt issuance have all kept bonds under pressure."
Ed Al-Hussainy, a portfolio manager at Columbia Threadneedle, told the Times that it's difficult to "disentangle" the causes of the rate surge. "The only thing we can say right now is that they're all pointing in the same direction," he said, "and that's in the direction of higher rates, and they're doing it globally."

George Clooney was a late bloomer in Hollywood who now frequently uses his platform as an industry icon to promote political and humanitarian causes close to his heart.
At 65, the megastar belongs to a rare caste of Hollywood actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise whose names have become globally famous.
His dark good looks, natural charm and on-screen charisma have also earned him frequent comparisons to 20th-century Hollywood giant Cary Grant.
"I think he's better at the job of being a movie star than anybody who has ever done it," Tony Gilroy, who directed him in 2007 thriller "Michael Clayton", once said about him.
Clooney "absolutely can't be reduced to just his looks and charm, which are indisputable," Alberto Barbera, artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, told AFP on Tuesday.

Global liquidity may matter more than the Fed's next rate decision for crypto markets in September, according to Utkarsh Ahuja, founder and managing partner at Moon Pursuit Capital.
In a note shared with Cryptoprowl, Ahuja said crypto could enter another period of volatility or consolidation next month, but said a pullback would not necessarily mark the beginning of a broader downturn. Instead, weaker prices could help reset positioning, which could leave markets in better shape for the fourth quarter.
"Monetary policy, inflation, global money supply, credit creation and financial conditions are becoming increasingly important to the direction of risk ****** ets," Ahuja wrote. "Crypto sits particularly close to that intersection because it trades globally, around the clock, and tends to respond quickly to changes in liquidity and risk appetite," he added.

MD Sass, a boutique ****** et management firm, published its second-quarter investor update for its flagship, the "MD Sass Concentrated Value Strategy." The letter can be downloaded here. In the first half of 2026, AI infrastructure stocks led the market, with the Russell 1000 Value increasing by 16.3%, outpacing the S&P 500 (10.2%) and Russell 1000 Growth (5.3%). This growth was fueled by semiconductor, memory, and hardware companies benefiting from AI development, even though they are considered cyclical. These sectors, representing only 7.7% of the Russell 1000 Value at the start of the year, contributed nearly 70% of its returns. The portfolio gained 10.0% in the second quarter, net of fees, compared to 13.9% for the Russell 1000 Value Index. Year-to-date, the strategy returned 6.6%, net of fees, versus 16.3% for the Index. The portfolio faced challenges due to limited exposure to companies with the greatest upside from AI infrastructure investments. It also lacked exposure to the Energy sector, which returned about 20% in the first half amid geopolitical tensions with Iran that increased commodity prices, affecting performance. The firm recognizes the importance of adapting its strategies while maintaining core investment principles as it explores future opportunities in emerging technological themes. Also, check the fund's top five holdings to see its best picks in 2026.

Swiss lawmakers are expected to send a softened banking reform proposal to the upper house of parliament, as the country tries to settle one of the biggest questions left by the Credit Suisse collapse: how much capital should UBS be forced to hold?
The Swiss government originally wanted UBS to hold about $20 billion in additional Common Equity Tier 1 capital. CET1 is the hard stuff: high-quality equity capital that absorbs losses first and gives regulators comfort when a bank gets into trouble.
The proposed requirement followed UBS's emergency takeover of Credit Suisse in 2023. That deal stopped one crisis, but created another problem. Switzerland now has one giant globally important bank, and regulators want to make sure taxpayers are not dragged back into another rescue.

The name Dolly Parton immediately conjures an image of a larger-than-life figure with big hair, loud makeup, dazzling clothes, enhanced features, and a personality as magnificent as the music legacy ******* ociated with it. This multi-dimensional visual is only fitting for a cultural icon who fashioned a persona so colorful that to honor Parton's amazing life as an artist would be incomplete without celebrating her unmatched style.
The Grammy-winning country singer, who died on August 25, 2026, of cancer, was a truly original fashion icon — even though she demurred at the notion of being considered one. Right from her girlhood days in Tennessee, where she grew up as a poor farmer's daughter who found creative ways to beautify herself, to her time as a globally beloved celebrity who, despite relentless lampooning, stayed true to her authentic tastes, Parton was a masterclass in catching every curveball and turning it into an opportunity for greatness.
The best part was that she refused to compromise. "It took me probably years longer to be taken serious, but I wasn't willing to change it, and I figured if I had the talent, it'd show up sooner or later," she told The Guardian. And she did; the industry could overlook a talent as exceptional as Parton for only so long. There have been few, after all, who could play perfect chords with extra-long acrylic nails. Here is the significance behind Dolly Parton's signature style and why she was never seen without it.

The FDA approved Pasatru, whose generic name is garetosmab, of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) for adults with fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. FOP is an ultra-rare genetic disorder in which bone forms inside muscles, tendons, and ligaments, progressively restricting movement. In a 56-week Phase 3 trial involving 63 adults, the approved 3-milligram-per-kilogram dose reduced the number of new abnormal bone lesions by 94% compared with placebo. The decision completed an unusual clinical recovery. Regeneron paused an earlier study in 2020 after five patients died during its open-label portion, when all participants were receiving active treatment. The published ****** ysis later considered a relationship to treatment unlikely, although causality could not be ruled out. For Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN), Pasatru is a regulatory and scientific victory whose earnings potential is constrained by an exceptionally small market.
The company's existing scale makes that limitation difficult to ignore. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) generated second-quarter revenue of $4.29 billion, up 17%, while company-defined non-GAAP diluted EPS reached $14.29. Global Dupixent sales, recorded by partner Sanofi, increased 38% to approximately $6 billion, and U.S. Eylea HD sales rose 52% to $596 million. Against those franchises, even a successful Pasatru launch would have limited influence on consolidated results.
The approval demonstrates that Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) can recover a program after a major clinical setback. Following the 2020 dosing pause, the company worked with regulators to design a late-stage study that produced a statistically significant reduction in new bone lesions. Pasatru also validates research into Activin A, which activates the mutant ACVR1/ALK2 receptor and triggers abnormal bone formation in FOP.
That platform value may matter more than initial sales. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) plans to begin a pediatric trial later in 2026, which could eventually expand the eligible population. The regulatory recovery may also strengthen confidence in the company's ability to advance other rare-disease programs from internally discovered biology.
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:REGN) is entering an exceptionally small pharmaceutical market. Published prevalence estimates generally range from approximately one case per one million to one per two million people. Only approximately 800 to 900 known or confirmed cases have been identified globally, although additional patients may remain undiagnosed. Pasatru is currently approved only for adults, further narrowing its immediate market.

On August 19, Estée Lauder Companies (NYSE:EL) released its fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter and full-year earnings, and the numbers finally matched the turnaround story management has been selling for a year and a half. Organic net sales rose 3% for the year, adjusted operating margin expanded 320 basis points to 11.2%, and adjusted diluted EPS jumped 66% to $2.51. After several rocky years, the beauty giant is starting to look like a company executing rather than explaining.
The growth wasn't concentrated in one lucky category. Fragrance led the way with 10% organic sales growth, fueled by hero scents from Le Labo and TOM FORD, while Skin Care grew 4% across price tiers from The Ordinary to La Mer. Jo Malone London and TOM FORD both crossed into the company's billion-dollar brand club this year, joining Clinique, Estée Lauder, La Mer, and M·A·C, giving the portfolio six brands at that scale. Gross margin reached 75.5%, up 150 basis points, largely on benefits from the Profit Recovery and Growth Plan, which is now delivering an expected $1.2 billion in annual gross benefits, the high end of the range management had promised.
Organic net sales in Mainland China grew 9% for the full year, outperforming the prestige beauty market and gaining share in every quarter. Globally, online sales reached a record 34% of total reported sales, up 3 percentage points from fiscal 2025. Management continues to prioritize product innovation, which accounted for 23% of total sales in fiscal 2026, and expects that share to expand by an additional 200 to 250 basis points in fiscal 2027, led by Skin Care launches. For fiscal 2027, the company guided to full-year organic sales growth of 3% to 5% and projected an adjusted operating margin of 12.7% to 13.5%, reflecting higher profitability targets than the 11.2% achieved in fiscal 2026.
Not every part of the business is cooperating. The conflict in the Middle East cut organic sales growth in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region by 2 percentage points in the fourth quarter, and management said the situation remains dynamic heading into fiscal 2027. Hair Care organic sales declined 1% for the year, weighed down by continued struggles in Aveda's salon channel. Makeup improved by 500 basis points over the year but still finished essentially flat, a sign the category recovery is real but incomplete. The margin story also leans heavily on cost cutting rather than pure growth.
The restructuring plan eliminated 10,000 net positions and racked up $823 million in ******* ulative charges, and fiscal 2027 cash flow guidance of $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion is actually a step down from the $1.8 billion generated in fiscal 2026, reflecting higher restructuring payments and rising working capital needs. CEO Stephane de la Faverie also made clear that large acquisitions are off the table for now, telling investors the company is "not entertaining transformational deals," which limits how quickly Estée Lauder could reshape its portfo
Globally recognized for her beauty, business, and pop culture dominance, she's managed to remain in the spotlight across platforms and through every career evolution. Tesla's FSD reached 55% of Q2 North American deliveries and 1.5 million paid subscribers globally, embedding a software subscription business inside an automaker.
GM trades at 29x P/E and Rivian posts -66% operating margins, framing just how much unproven autonomy optionality is embedded in Tesla's 185x forward multiple.
Act now: the ***** yst who called NVIDIA in 2010 just named his top 10 AI stocks — and Tesla didn't make the cut. Grab the names FREE today.
Everyone is focused on Tesla's vehicle deliveries. I think that misses the point. The number that could actually decide Tesla's (NASDAQ:TSLA) future is the Full Self-Driving attach rate, which reached 55% of Q2 North American deliveries with paid FSD customers hitting nearly 1.5 million globally. That is a software subscription business hiding inside an automaker.
Our 24/7 Wall St. price target for Tesla is $377.78, modest upside of 4.11% from $362.86. That is a hold, delivered with high (90%) confidence.
