WASHINGTON, Sept 10 (Reuters) - The Trump administration has proposed eliminating a 60-day grace period that allows certain immigrants, including skilled workers on H-1B visas, to stay in the United States and find a new sponsor after losing their job, according to a government notice posted online on Thursday.
Under the planned rule change, published in the Federal Register by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, those with H-1B and certain other temporary work visas would have to leave the country as soon as their employment ends — a potential blow to top American tech companies that rely heavily on foreign workers.
It is the latest step by U.S. President Donald Trump to limit legal immigration since returning to office in January 2025. His administration has also introduced higher visa fees for skilled workers and recently paused immigrant visa appointments at U.S. missions globally while it implements a new training program.
Companies affected by the change could see some disruption, DHS wrote in its proposal, but it said the jobs could go to American workers instead. In some situations, immigrant workers who leave could potentially reapply if their employer petitions for them, it added.

Several of architect David McLay Kidd's most popular courses have focused on extreme and creative playability, with Gamble Sands in Washington and Mammoth Dunes at Sand Valley in Wisconsin as prime examples. Even his first-ever design, the original Bandon Dunes layout at the famed resort of the same name in Oregon, put playability at the forefront.
Kidd had a few deviations from the playability theme in his career, but in recent years he has talked at length about designing courses that are approachable for any level of golfer. The trick, he has said, is to challenge the best players while allowing less-skilled golfers to keep swinging.
Consider that challenge accepted at Bone Valley in Florida, his latest completed creation that will open in late September for preview play at the well-regarded Streamsong Resort. Built with an appreciation of the resort's other courses and with those layouts' DNA in mind, Kidd has constructed a new, full-sized 18 that offers ample width and plenty of opportunities to bounce **** into greens – those are keys to playability for less-skilled players.
But just as megalodon shark teeth can be found in the sand piles left over from the site's history as a phosphate mining operation, Bone Valley can offer a bit of a bite. Stray too far from the best scoring lines, and even the best players will struggle with the angles as they attempt to set up birdie putts.
"My team and I felt like we got to build something really, really fun both visually, strategically, creatively," Kidd said. "I think golfers, when they come here, won't be disappointed. I think they'll have a blast trying to figure out how to navigate their way through. I think every hole has a dozen different attacks you could make, a thousand different ways you could recover from error. It's not overly penal, but she is going to put up a fight against scoring. I think I've been able to refine that over the last dozen years or so."

PACS Group, Inc. (NYSE:PACS) shares rose 3.3% in premarket trading on Wednesday after the company announced definitive agreements to acquire the operations of 32 skilled nursing facilities in Florida and completed additional facility acquisitions from Eduro Healthcare.
The Florida facilities comprise 4,049 licensed skilled nursing beds and will be leased from Omega Healthcare Investors, Inc. (NYSE:OHI).
The transaction is expected to close during the fourth quarter, subject to customary closing conditions.
The planned acquisition will mark PACS Group's entry into Florida, extending its southern U.S. operations beyond its existing presence in Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.
According to PACS, the 32 facilities are integrated into healthcare networks across Florida.

Over 11,000 people participated in the City of Austin's adult year-round sports leagues in 2024, with growth among seniors and transplants expected in 2025 and 2026. On Friday, players and team leaders in the program were notified the city is canceling its indoor leagues, including basketball and volleyball, to save $400,000.
"The approved reduction removes two recreational programming positions and **** ociated funding related to adult indoor sports operations, totaling an estimated savings of $400,000," reads a statement from the city's department. "It is one of the reductions made within Austin Parks and Recreation, and similar savings measures were approved across other General Fund departments."
According to a City of Austin Parks and Recreation presentation, the department had 1,113 team sign-ups in 2024 across all adult sports, including outdoor leagues like softball and flag football. With registration costs at $350 per team, the department generated approximately $389,550 in revenue. The city's basketball leagues have all been canceled, with refunds to teams to follow.
The department states that the changes are part of the city's ongoing budget constraints and that it is actively evaluating how adult sports opportunities can continue within department‑operated **** es. Notably, this would likely involve removing the city as operators of Austin's adult indoor sports leagues and relying on community or private organizations to preserve play.
"If these leagues go away, there's not another place that we can move and replicate what we've had for generations," said Austin resident and adult sports league participant Pete Signor to KVUE. "Most other leagues are significantly more expensive, like triple the cost, and many of them are not as skilled or more social in nature."

"If these leagues go away, there's not another place that we can move and replicate what we've had for generations," said Austin resident and adult sports league participant Pete Signor to KVUE. "Most other leagues are significantly more expensive, like triple the cost, and many of them are not as skilled or more social in nature."

Three Bulldog players picked up wins in their varsity singles debut while Layla Criswell and Victoria Sosa closed out the dual earning a win in their debut as a varsity doubles team. All told, Ottumwa won every single set in 10 matches played against Des Moines Hoover-East improving to 3-0 in Iowa Alliance Conference south division duals with an 11-0 victory over the Polar Bears on a night where the depth of the Bulldogs was on full display.
"I told the girls before the match that it can be tough to play people that aren't quite as skilled at the game as themselves," Ottumwa head girls tennis coach Leanna White said. "What I was looking for was people who were going to go out there and play the game I know they can play as individuals."
Ottumwa (8-3) heads to Des Moines Roosevelt on Thursday for the dual that could decide the Iowa Alliance south division championship. Action at Waveland Courts will get underway at 4 p.m.

Chad Dillard of Bernstein said in a recent program on CNBC that Quanta Services (NYSE:PWR) is an "800-pound gorilla" in high-voltage transmission lines. He was responding to a CNBC host who asked him to discuss "AI plays in disguise" beyond the major names everyone is aware of.
"I think we need to focus on what the bottlenecks are, right? It's power and labor," Dillard said. "On the power side, like you just said, you know, Caterpillar, it's an obvious one, power generation. But there's also another way to improve power, and that's by raising the voltage. And I'm talking about high voltage transmission lines. I'm talking about raising the voltage in data centers. ( Quanta Services) They're an 800-lb gorilla basically in the room."
Quanta Services (NYSE:PWR) can benefit from the coming wave of AI-related power demand because it's one of the few companies big enough to do the actual building when utilities spend money to expand and upgrade the grid. The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Chris Webber from the Sacramento Kings at the 2005 deadline with the hope that he could bring his all-around game to Philadelphia and be a great sidekick next to Allen Iverson.
On paper, the numbers were great as he averaged 17.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.4 ****** ists in 114 games across three seasons for Philadelphia. Unfortunately, injuries slowed him and he wasn't the same dominant player he was during his days in Sacramento.

I am in the Jim Brown division this year, and on July 25 I participated in two drafts (one snake, one salary cap) against 13 other skillful industry members. The drafts were fun but competitive, one of the highlights of the year. And although I pride myself on being an experienced and skilled salary cap player, I did not love my results in that draft.

I'm not gonna lie, Greece is my second favorite country in Europe, after, of course, Italy. So many uncharted territories, so many jewels scattered across the Mediterranean Sea, waiting to be explored.
Anyway, let's talk football. Greece has generated some excellent players over the years. Take their Euro 2004 squad: Charisteas, Zagorakis, Nikopolidis, Basinas, Seitaridis, Papadopoulos. They weren't superstars, but they were reliable and skilled players. The team was compact, resilient, and tough, winning against Portugal and France and drawing with Spain in 2004.
More recently, Greece has produced well-known names, including Odysseas Vlachodimos, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Anastasios Douvikas, and Vangelis Pavlidis, as well as promising young talents such as Christos Mandas, Christos Tzolis, and Konstantinos Karetsas.
And there is also Konstantinos Koulierakis: a tall, athletic center-back who just joined Roma from Wolfsburg and has already been capped 22 times by the Greek National Team.

UFC flyweight Allan Nascimento has passed away at 34.
The UFC announced Nascimento's death via social media on Monday. The Brazilian suffered an apparent heart attack in his sleep. He was found unresponsive and declared deceased at the scene.
"This morning, Monday, August 3rd, our beloved flyweight fighter, Allan Nascimento, was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent heart attack in his sleep. Despite the efforts of the responding medical team, he was ******* ounced deceased at the scene," read the fight promotion's statement.
"A member of the famed Chute Boxe Diego Lima team, Nascimento made six trips into the Octagon, amassing a 4-2 record while building a reputation as a skilled competitor and consummate professional. For his career, "Puro Osso" compiled a 22-7 record with 16 of his wins coming by way of submission.
"A fixture on the doorstep of the Top 15, Nascimento was a constant presence alongside his teammates whenever they made the walk, sharing an especially close bond with former lightweight champion and current BMF ******* leholder Charles Oliveira.

Borussia Dortmund on Monday announced the signing of teenage Greek forward Konstantinos Karetsas from Belgian side Genk on a five-year deal, for a reported fee of 30 million euros ($34 million) plus bonuses.
The 18-year-old, who already has three goals in 10 appearances for Greece, laid on 11 ****** ists in the Belgian top flight last season.
Dortmund were looking for more creativity after the departure of the long-serving Julian Brandt, who left on a free transfer.

On July 21, one of OpenAI's large language models (LLMs) escaped from its test environment where it was being evaluated for its cyberintrusion capabilities, got to the open internet, and then proceeded to hack into the artificial intelligence (AI) hub called Hugging Face. OpenAI had previously deactivated certain safety features, and it had also prompted the model to ace the ExploitGym hacking benchmark at any cost. Now, the company has a convenient new story about how powerful its technology can be.

The Turner Building Cost Index rose 5.2% year over year in the second quarter, providing further evidence that construction costs are increasing on an annual basis, even as monthly numbers offered a momentary reprieve.
The construction cost yardstick from New York City-based Turner Construction, the industry's largest contractor by revenue, increased 1.4% from the first quarter as high-growth sectors drove demand for both labor and materials, according to a July 24 news release.
"Demand remains strongest in data centers, semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, and mission-critical facilities, particularly in the Midwest and Southeast," Attilio Rivetti, Turner's vice president responsible for compiling the index, said in the release. "The industry's biggest challenge continues to be the availability of skilled Mechanical and Electrical labor."
Monthly costs have whipsawed recently. In June, nonresidential input costs decreased 1.1% month over month, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. But that dip came after a 2.6% month-over-month surge in May, a jump that helped spur the fastest annual increase since the pandemic.
