A birthday gift for a young Max Verstappen fan took an unexpected but funny turn at Circuit Zandvoort when the shirt pulled from a green plastic bag turned out to be bright red and covered in Ferrari branding.
Formula 1 had its Dutch Grand Prix fan forum on on the Friday ahead of the sprint weekend, featuring Verstappen and his temporary team-mate Liam Lawson. Both drivers shone in their team colors; blue Oracle Red Bull Racing jackets with Ford Racing branding. It's the outfit's first season with power units built in partnership with Ford. And it's been mildly successful. Although not quite as successful as Ferrari who have been enjoying being the 'best of the rest' team.
The host tells the crowd the child is celebrating his birthday and has brought a shirt for Verstappen to sign. She offers Max a pen, at which point he spots the problem.
"Max Verstappen fan? He's got a Ferrari shirt!" Verstappen laughs.

The Wisconsin Badgers open their 2026 volleyball season Friday night with one of the toughest tests they could have asked for, taking on No. 3 Kentucky at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. The Badgers enter the season ranked No. 6 in the country, setting up a matchup between two of the nation's premier programs right out of the gate.
There's also some unfinished business between these teams, as Kentucky ended Wisconsin's 2025 season with a five-set victory in the NCAA Tournament semifinals.

MILWAUKEE – Fiserv Forum is host to some of the best volleyball teams in the country on Friday, Aug. 21.
No. 7 Louisville will kick off the season against No. 8 Texas A&M as part of the AVCA First Serve in Milwaukee. Then No. 6 Wisconsin will look to avenge its Final Four loss against No. 3 Kentucky in the latter part of the doubleheader.
It's the first of four days of volleyball matches at Fiserv Forum. Other teams in the event include No. 2 Texas, No. 12 Arizona State.
The Louisville-Texas A&M match will start at 5 p.m. and air on ESPN2, and the Wisconsin-Kentucky match will start at 8 p.m. and air on ESPN. The Journal Sentinel will have live coverage from both matches. Follow below for all the updates:

BEIJING, Aug 18 (Reuters) - China's humanoid robot makers have spent the past two years dazzling investors with machines that can breakdance, throw punches and even set marathon records. This week in Beijing, they face a tougher test in proving their inventions can work reliably to generate economic value.
More than 300 companies are expected at the World Robot Conference from Wednesday through Sunday, showcasing over 2,000 exhibits and launching more than 150 products, according to Beijing authorities.
The conference coincides with the Shanghai stock market debut of Unitree, one of the world's largest humanoid robot makers by sales volume, after an initial public offering that was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed by retail investors.
Unitree founder ****** Xingxing will address the conference's main forum on Thursday on the next decade of the humanoid industry, according to the Beijing municipal government.

A Virginia man's anti-police license plate is at the center of what could be a landmark First Amendment case, following a federal appeals court ruling in his favor last month.
Virginia motorist Curtis M. Whateley says he has a free speech right to keep his customized license plate, which reads "FTP&ATF," an abbreviation that foul-mouthed puzzle-solvers will decipher as "Fuck the police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms." The State of Virginia argues that it has the right to revoke Whateley's plate because license plates are government-owned, not a public soapbox. The state says it's going to take its case to the Supreme Court.
The case highlights a niche, often amusing, but still consequential issue in First Amendment law: whether a vanity license plate is private or government speech.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that Texas could deny a group's application for a specialty license plate design showing the Confederate flag. Most U.S. district courts and state courts interpreting the decision have held that, while government-run vanity plate programs are a nonpublic forum, the specific character combination of the plate is private speech, which restricts the government from censorship based on viewpoint.
But until the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit issued an opinion on Whateley's case on July 31, no federal appeals court had ruled on the matter, according to the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia (ACLU-VA), which is representing Whateley. While stubborn inflation plagued the first half of the year, last month's cooling prices raise a critical question: Can the central bank afford to hold interest rates steady in September, or are these early signs of inflation relief just a head fake?
All eyes will be on Chairman Kevin Warsh's speech — his first as Fed chair — to see whether he addresses the economic outlook, inflation, and monetary policy. Fed chairs have historically used the Jackson Hole forum to set the table for upcoming September policy actions or announce major structural shifts.
The speech arrives at a time of deep market anxiety. Wisconsin announced the nonconference portion of its schedule Aug. 10 with four series plus the previously announced Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
Three of the series will be played at home. The exception will be a trip to Minnesota State on Oct. 9-10 that will mark a homecoming for UW coach Mike Hastings. He spent 11 seasons as the Mavericks coach before leaving for Wisconsin.
Here is how the Badgers' schedule unfolds. Nonconference dates are marked by an asterisk. The exact days and times of the Big Ten series will be announced later. The start times for the nonconference series also will be announced later.

Manchester United have been given a warning about the growing disconnect between the fans and the club, according to the Stretford Paddock podcaster Jay Motty.
On Sunday Luca Black gave up his role as the under 21s representative on the Manchester United Fans Forum.
In a statement shared online, he said that he no longer wished to contribute to "a process with no meaningful impact", citing a lack of accountability and the insensitivity of season ticket bans as reasons.
Motty believes that the resignation is an opportunity for club officials to recognise the damaging consequences of their approach.
"I think Luca's statement points out that there hasn't been a dialogue," Motty told the Devils' Advocate podcast.

MARQUETTE HAS 28 POINTS WORTH OF VOTES. THEY START THE 2026 SEASON AS THE UNOFFICIAL #34 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY!
That's awesome. I legitimately did not expect that. With the loss of so many seniors and three starters departing via transfer, including top attacker Natalie Ring, I presumed that the coaches that have a ballot would just say "ah, yes, NCAA tournament in head coach Tom Mendoza's first season, but come on, top 25 to start next year? Not so fast my friend." A lot of them did! Nebraska is #1 and they have over 1,500 points! Marquette has only 28! But 28 is more than the two points across two ballots that you need to get mentioned in the Receiving Votes area, and that's great.
As for Marquette's schedule, well, Tom Mendoza didn't shy away from anything. MU's first match of the season will be against preseason #2 Texas, as they get the Longhorns at Fiserv Forum in the AVCA First Serve event. Texas snagged one first place vote to sneak past #3 Kentucky and their four first place votes and land right behind the Cornhuskers.

Not so fast my friend." A lot of them did! Nebraska is #1 and they have over 1,500 points! Marquette has only 28! But 28 is more than the two points across two ballots that you need to get mentioned in the Receiving Votes area, and that's great.
As for Marquette's schedule, well, Tom Mendoza didn't shy away from anything. MU's first match of the season will be against preseason #2 Texas, as they get the Longhorns at Fiserv Forum in the AVCA First Serve event. Texas snagged one first place vote to sneak past #3 Kentucky and their four first place votes and land right behind the Cornhuskers.

The Scottish Football ****** ociation is to hold a "critically important" summit around the future of the national game.
An email has been sent to all Scottish Professional Football League clubs to attend the forum, which will take place in St Andrews on 4 September.
The email, which has been seen by BBC Scotland, says the SFA will "discuss opportunities" around homegrown talent and hear from clubs who have "optimised their elite talent development model".
The memo also states the objective is to focus on the "current reality" facing Scottish football.
Part of the conversation will be around improving the prospects for homegrown Scottish talent and increasing revenue streams for clubs.

The job market has been a tough sell for many Gen Z graduates, with tariffs, economic uncertainty, and artificial intelligence reshaping hiring plans across corporate America.
But according to Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang, the next wave of six-figure opportunities won't be found in a Wall Street cubicle or Silicon Valley Slack channel. Instead, high-paying careers will partially come by picking up a wrench—literally.
As tech giants race to build sprawling data centers—totaling $7 trillion in global capital outlays by the end of the decade—Huang believes the world is on the cusp of what he calls the "largest infrastructure build-out in human history," which will create "a lot of jobs."
"It's wonderful that the jobs are related to tradecraft, and we're going to have plumbers and electricians and construction and steelworkers," he said in conversation with BlackRock CEO Larry Fink at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January.
The hands-on skills needed to construct what he described as chip, computer, and AI factories are already facing shortages—even though many roles pay over $100,000 without requiring a college degree. One McKinsey report estimated that between 2023 and 2030, there will be a need for an additional 130,000 trained electricians—as well as 240,000 construction laborers and 150,000 construction supervisors—in the U.S. alone.
