We are officially two weeks from Texas football and another major piece of news has popped up. Ty'Anthony Smith, the third-year linebacker, has been dismissed from the team following a tumultuous fall camp.
As has been discussed throughout the offseason, the LB room is not the deepest on the team. The trio of freshmen, led by Tyler Atkinson, will need to play a bigger role this season. I believe they are up to the task but it's unlikely to come as quickly as Texas would like.
One of the single biggest storylines this offseason has been the freshmen LBs. Tyler Atkinson came in as the top dawg, but Rocky ******* s and Kosi Okpala were the story during spring camp. Since then, Atkinson has taken a step forward and seems poised to back up Rasheem Biles. ******* s will get looks behind Justin Cryer at MLB and Okpala is likely to occupy a role similar to Brad Spence.
That trio of players are talented enough to make this a relative non-problem. However, LB is not always a position that comes quickly to young players. It's a position largely defined off your experience and knowledge of the game. That's something this trio will have to find early in the season or the Texas LB unit will have to lean on the trio of Biles, Cryer and Spence more than they'd like.
So, how quickly can this group be ready? I'd argue Tyler Atkinson will be a consistent and confident contributor by the Oklahoma game. Before that, he will get reps but might not be ready to fill the role he'll eventually have to. The entire trio needs to find the field consistently against Texas State and UTSA, to speed up the process as much as possible. I would expect the veterans to carry the majority of the weight against Ohio State, simply because of the complexity and intensity that game will contain.

When reading this "Busts" column, it is important to point out that I perceive these players to be overvalued at their current draft position, not that they are outright "off-my-board" unless otherwise specified.
Play Yahoo's new College Fantasy Football game: Create or join a league now!
As I've mentioned in previous columns, pro-style quarterbacks have major difficulty reaching the all-important 20-fantasy-point-per-game mark in Yahoo Standard scoring without a defined rushing component. Running backs in committees are always dicey propositions, and it's vital to target receivers and tight ends who are targeted downfield in pass-friendly offenses.
With that, here are the most overvalued players currently being selected in Yahoo Standard Leagues.
Please understand this "Bust" label pertains to Yahoo Standard scoring where pro-style signal-callers are depreciated by way of 4-point passing touchdowns. Philosophically, we've seen Ohio State morph from the up-tempo attack of Ryan Day's formative head coaching years, to the glacial offense we witnessed last year that slowed OSU down to the 135th slowest pace in the country.

Both AT&T and Verizon sold their customers' real-time location data to aggregators who resold it to almost anyone willing to pay. Both got fined. Both fought back. One of them just ran out of road.
On Aug. 17, the Supreme Court denied Verizon's petition to recover the $47 million it paid the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over the sale of customer location data, ending the carrier's effort without explanation, according to QZ.
AT&T is in a different position. Its case took a different procedural path and it still has a live shot at recovering the $57 million it paid. That gap matters, and it didn't happen by accident.
The fines go back to April 2024, when the FCC penalized four carriers a combined $196 million for selling customers' location data to aggregators without meaningful consent.
T-Mobile was hit hardest at $80 million. AT&T paid $57 million. Verizon paid $47 million. Sprint paid $12 million.

Things turned ugly following Spain's 1-0 win over Argentina at the 2026 World Cup final. After the final whistle, a massive scuffle broke out, in which Argentina's Leandro Paredes grabbed Spain's Eric García by the throat.
The brawl was eventually broken up, but FIFA quickly announced it would investigate the situation a day after the contest.
That investigation concluded Friday, as FIFA announced a number of punishments as a result of the brawl. In a statement, FIFA said the Argentina FA would be fined $321,000 and would have to play its next two games with limited fans in attendance. Additionally, four players and one team official were issued suspensions for their roles in the fracas.
Paredes received the largest suspension, and will miss the next 10 matches after grabbing Garcia by the throat. Paredes also received a fine of $90,000 for his actions.
In addition to Paredes, Nahuel Molina, Thiago Almada and Pablo Martín Páez Gavira were the three other players to be fined and suspended as a result of the brawl. Molina will miss the next seven matches and was also fined $90,000. Almada and Gavira were each suspended one match and fined $30,000.

Ivanka Trump stepped out in polished tailoring while wearing a familiar chic power suit for a business meeting in New York City. The former White House senior adviser was photographed leaving an office building in Manhattan before heading to a waiting SUV. While reports linked the outing to a possible meeting with Backlot, it was her timeless Sandro ensemble that stole the spotlight.
Ivanka rewore her Sandro tailored blazer and matching trousers in Almond Green for the NYC outing. The double-breasted blazer featured sharp lapels, structured shoulders, and contrasting white ******* ons that stood out against the soft pastel hue. Its tailored fit cinched gently at the waist before falling into coordinated cropped trousers, giving the classic power suit a lighter, more contemporary feel.
Ivanka paired the Sandro suit with white strappy heels that added a clean, summery finish to the monochromatic ensemble. She kept her accessories understated and carried a tote with the Backlot logo. The bag sparked speculation about the purpose of her Manhattan meeting. The minimal styling allowed the sharply tailored suit to remain the focal point of the look.
Her blonde hair was styled in loose, soft waves with a center part. The relaxed style offered a nice contrast to the structured silhouette. Meanwhile, her beauty look remained fresh and understated. She chose a "no-makeup" makeup finish and a nude lip that complemented the suit's pale green shade. The natural glam reinforced the refined, business-ready aesthetic.
The outfit was not a new addition to Ivanka's wardrobe. She previously wore the same Sandro pantsuit during her time in Washington, making the NYC appearance a notable fashion repeat. The latest outing highlights how the tailored set can still work as a polished choice years after its first appearance.

How Eagles WR room with DeVonta Smith, Makai Lemon is shaping up in wake of A.J. Brown trade originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
For the first time since 2021, the Philadelphia Eagles are entering an NFL season with at least a few legitimate questions to answer at wide receiver.
Howie Roseman's 2022 NFL Draft trade for then-Titans star A.J. Brown proved to be one of the best acquisitions in franchise history, with Brown helping the Eagles reach the playoffs in all four of his seasons with the team, including two Super Bowl appearances and one ***** le. But Brown is off to a new destination with the Patriots — and Philadelphia's offseason has been defined by life without him.
With the off-the-field drama of Brown in the rearview mirror, the Eagles took a depth approach to replacing him, utilizing the draft and free agency for additions. Until Week 1 arrives, though, there will be little clarity on the roles within the wide receiver room.
Here's an updated look at the Eagles' wide receiver depth chart and how different names have fared so far this preseason.

The oil market has remained complacent for months amid the worst disruption in global supply, with crude oil futures rarely topping $100 per barrel over the six months in which tanker traffic at the Strait of Hormuz is a trickle compared to pre-war levels.
While market participants have been putting too much hope of a resolution of the conflict in their bets on future crude prices, product supply of the fuel of the economies – diesel – has been shrinking.
So much has the diesel market tightened in recent months that the diesel crack spread, the pricing difference between a barrel of crude oil and the diesel refined from it, hit record highs in both the United States and Europe this week.
The crude oil market shows traders' expectations of near-term supply, but the diesel markets are flashing the very real physical tightness of the petroleum product whose consumption has yet to rise this year and whose availability and prices drive economies and inflation.
The diesel crack spread in the United States hit triple digits this week, for the first time ever. The premium over crude prices jumped to as high as $102 per barrel on Monday, before easing slightly to about $100 a barrel on Tuesday.

Paige Bueckers' heated Caitlin Clark sequence could lead to WNBA fine originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A one-on-one matchup between Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark ended with a whistle, a heated complaint and a potential fine for the Dallas Wings star. The sequence unfolded during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's game between the Wings and Indiana Fever. After Makayla Timpson secured a defensive rebound, she delivered the ball to Clark, who pushed it up the floor.
Bueckers attempted to stop Clark in transition but was called for a personal foul. The former UConn star immediately disputed the decision and appeared to argue that Clark had used her arm to create separation. The disagreement continued long enough for the official to **** s Bueckers a technical foul.
The technical initially was reported as Bueckers' second of the season, according to Athlon Sports. However, her first technical, issued during a May 22 game against the Atlanta Dream, later was rescinded. If Thursday's call is upheld, it would count as Bueckers' first official technical of the year.
WNBA players are fined $500 for each of their first three technical fouls. The penalty increases to $1,000 for technicals four through seven. An eighth technical results in a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension, with another suspension following every second technical after that threshold. That means Bueckers could receive a $500 fine following the Clark sequence.

Arike Ogunbowale's reaction to Kelsey Mitchell foul could come with added cost originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Dallas Wings' matchup with the Indiana Fever produced frustration early Thursday night, and Arike Ogunbowale could end up paying for it in more ways than one. Ogunbowale received a technical foul with 2:21 remaining in the first quarter after she was whistled for a personal foul against Kelsey Mitchell. The Dallas guard disputed the decision and continued making her case to an official, who quickly ***** sed the technical.
Caitlin Clark missed the ensuing technical free throw, but Mitchell converted both attempts awarded for the original foul. The sequence did not create a major swing on the scoreboard. It could, however, create an unwanted charge for Ogunbowale.
The technical was Ogunbowale's second of the season. Under the WNBA's technical-foul structure, each of a player's first three technicals carries a $500 fine. Technicals four through seven result in $1,000 fines, while an eighth triggers a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension.
Ogunbowale therefore could be fined $500 if the call is upheld. There is at least some possibility the technical will not remain on her record. Ogunbowale previously had a technical rescinded this season, and the WNBA reviews such calls after games. Dallas also could appeal the decision.

The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints took to the spotlight with their fight-filled joint practice earlier this week—and the NFL took notice.
Over the past few seasons, the league has cracked down on what it considers bad sportsmanship, from taunting and excessive celebrations to gestures mimicking firearms. Now, it looks like joint-practice brawls could be the next item on the NFL's hit list.

According to Mark Maske of Front Office Sports on X, the NFL has fined both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints $500,000 each following their fight-filled joint practice at the Cowboys' summer home in Oxnard, California, earlier this week.
The league also reminded teams that they were warned ahead of training camp about their responsibility to keep unsportsmanlike behavior in check at joint practices—particularly when things have the potential to turn dangerous and cause injuries.

The Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans were fined $500,000 each for fighting in their joint practice on Tuesday.
Owner Jerry Jones understands why the NFL is coming down hard on the team. The league put teams and players on notice that penalties would be levied for fighting in practice during training camp.
"Well I think that you have to have consequences and that needs to register," Jones said. "In other words you you we all know whether you're playing a game or out here in society if you aren't sensitive about the consequences of your behavior then you'll get brought to your knees pretty quick."
Jones said he will appeal the fine from the NFL.
But he will also fine individual Cowboys players for their roles in the infractions.

The Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints could not seem to stop fighting one another during their scrimmage on Tuesday, and now they are paying for it.
The NFL announced on Thursday that Dallas and New Orleans have each been fined $500,000 for the "actions" that took place. This is obviously not a good look for anyone involved.
It was documented as the scrimmage wore on how the Cowboys and Saints simply could not stop fighting each other. There was never any specific culprit named from the "action", but Donovan Ezeiruaku was ejected in terms of transactional outcomes.
Brian Schottenheimer has said at many turns that the Cowboys need to be more disciplined this season, and this is certainly a step backwards in that effort. Obviously this was not an actual game and things can be said about who started what, but the facts are now that Dallas has literally been fined for improper activity of this sort.
Hopefully it is a learning opportunity moving forward.

The Dallas Cowboys are putting the finishing touches on the Oxnard portion of training camp on Thursday, and unfortunately it was not a fully clean effort in that regard.
It was reported early in the afternoon that defenders James Houston and Jay Toia each took to the injury tent at different points in time. You never want to see that.
Updates on both players will be posted as soon as we know more. For what it's worth the team portion of Thursday's practice was not allowed to be documented by those on-site.
Again, Oxnard is just about done for the Cowboys. Soon enough they will head to the desert for their second preseason game, this one against the Arizona Cardinals. Then they will return home and continue "training camp" at The Star before hosting the New Orleans Saints in the preseason finale. Hopefully that exhibition contest is nothing like the joint scrimmage as both teams were recently fined $500k for all of the fighting that they did throughout.

After a summer of on-and-off interest, Jhon Lucumi turned down more lucrative offers and got the move he reportedly wanted all along, joining Juventus after four seasons at Bologna. It's the kind of signing that typically doesn't generate much noise on its own: a 28-year-old defender with no Champions League pedigree to speak of, arriving for a fee that won't make any end of summer record boards.
But I think there's more than meets the eye with this transfer.
Lucumí often gets categorized as a classic ball-playing center back — calm in possession, accurate in distribution, and composed under pressure. While true, that label undersells his real profile. He's a defender defined less by highlight-reel flash and more by relentless consistency — a high-floor player whose value lies in making the complex look routine. He executes the required tackles, holds his **** e, and makes the simple, smart pass time after time.
With Lucumí, there are no surprises — just dependable, high-level quality.
Bologna rarely used Lucumí like a traditional, static center back. Across matches against Juventus and Napoli, he occupied virtually every defensive role across the backline — anchoring as the deepest defender, stepping into central midfield, or sliding out to cover the box. In one stretch against Napoli, he seamlessly shifted between left back, left center back, and right center back as phases of play demanded. Far from looking improvised, these rotations were clearly by design; Bologna's structure fluidly reorganized around his movements.

India's crushing victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test in Galle unearthed two potential long-term ****** ets in different departments — left-arm spinner Manav Suthar and batter Devdutt Padikkal.
Suthar, in particular, looks every bit a Test star in the making. In just two Tests, the 24-year-old has claimed 17 wickets at an average of 11.35, including two five-wicket hauls and his maiden 10-wicket match haul. In Galle, he showcased the classical virtues of left-arm spin, extracting loop, drift, turn and bounce.
Padikkal, meanwhile, grabbed his opportunity with both hands. Playing his first Test in 19 months after replacing the injured Sai Sudharsan at No. 3, the stylish left-hander marked his return with a majestic 167, the standout innings of the match, followed by a useful 44 in the second innings. Comfortable against spin on both the front and back foot, Padikkal has strengthened his case to retain the No. 3 slot.
Suthar made an impact from his very first ball, trapping Dinesh Chandimal with a beauty that pitched, bounced and turned away before finding the edge to Rishabh Pant. On the final day, he wrapped up Sri Lanka's tail with smart variations in pace and an effective straighter delivery.
Former India left-arm spinner and selector Venkatapathy Raju believes familiarity with subcontinental conditions and a recent county stint with Warwickshire have played a key role in Suthar's rapid rise. The youngster took 11 wickets in two county matches, including a maiden five-for against Somerset.
"I was very impressed by Suthar's attitude. He has a high-arm action, bowls close to the wicket and possesses the aggression needed to succeed as a left-arm spinner. Playing his first two Tests in familiar conditions has helped, while county cricket gave him valuable red-ball experience," Raju told TOI.
"This will do wonders for his confidence. He can bowl long spells, challenge both right-handers and left-handers and has shown all the signs of becoming a very good bowler."
India vice-captain KL Rahul credited Suthar's accuracy, subtle changes in pace and ability to exploit drift for making him such a potent threat.
"It's the subtle variations from the same action and angle. He can bowl slower or quicker without changing his arm speed. In Galle, he used the wind beautifully to get drift before the ball either straightened or came back in," Rahul said.
Rahul also praised Suthar's consistency in hitting the right areas.
"His greatest strength is his pace through the air and his ability to challenge every mode of dismissal. The line he bowls brings LBW into play, while any turn can produce catches behind. That's a special skill."
The vice-captain was equally effusive about Padikkal, with whom he shared a 150-run partnership in the first innings.
"That innings defined the Test," Rahul said. "The tempo he batted at and the fact that he converted it into a big hundred really set the game up for us. The conditions were physic

A couple of weeks ago during "Market on Close," I fielded a question about refining stocks like Valero (VLO), Marathon (MPC), and Phillips 66 (PSX). I basically said the price action represented a pause, because the market had mispriced the risk in the refined product market.
It's a supply-and-demand story I've also detailed in this ***** e with regard to the VanEck Vectors Oil Refiners ETF (CRAK), which is now up about 10% since I made those comments on the livestream, and spiking to new highs today.

Hayden Panettiere's final PETA ad has been released, just days after her sudden death. The campaign, filmed only two weeks before she passed away, shows the actor confined to a bathtub to protest marine parks like SeaWorld. The campaign video now stands as a lasting tribute to her animal rights advocacy. PETA shared the ad on August 18, confirming the shoot took place shortly before Panettiere died at age 36.
The PETA ad has Panettiere making an emotional plea for dolphins and orcas held in captivity. She speaks directly to viewers while lying in a bathtub, visually representing the cramped tanks marine mammals endure at entertainment parks. "Can you imagine their frustration, their trauma, their depression? All that is important and crucial for their well-being is ripped away … We can end this. You and me," Panettiere says in the clip.
She continues describing what ocean life offers these animals: family bonds, deep dives to escape heat, and rain on their backs. All of that disappears when they are placed in small tanks. The campaign also includes a photo ad featuring Panettiere in the bathtub. Behind-the-scenes from that shoot are also featured in the released video.
PETA accompanied the video with a statement honoring her commitment. "Hayden Panettiere became a household name playing a hero on TV, but in real life she was a hero to animals," the organization wrote. They urged supporters to honor her memory by refusing to buy tickets to marine parks.
Panettiere's father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed his daughter's passing on Sunday. Authorities reported no signs of foul play. The actor left behind a career spanning television, film, and video games, along with a legacy of vocal animal advocacy that this final PETA ad now preserves.

Management attributed the second quarter's flat revenue to the voluntary recall of the CGuard Prime 135 system, which necessitated $734,000 in customer credits that offset underlying U.S. sales growth.
International business grew 21% year-over-year, serving as a strategic proof point for the CGuard implant's clinical efficacy and physician demand despite domestic regulatory setbacks.
The company implemented a 20% workforce reduction to align its cost structure with near-term regulatory priorities, aiming to preserve cash while maintaining a lean commercial core for relaunch.
Management emphasized that the CGuard implant itself remains the foundational value driver, with the recall being a 'well-defined and manageable' issue isolated to the delivery system rather than the stent technology.

The harmonious buzzwords were flying when Penn State's coaches and players met with the media early in fall camp.
"Togetherness."
"Brotherhood."
"Love."
From every position group – seemingly from every individual – came a reference to a Buddhist concept, "mudita," defined as finding deep, sympathetic and unselfish joy in the success and happiness of others.

Yankees have a $138 million problem that might be resolved soon originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees have been struggling a little bit lately, even though their 69-55 record would suggest otherwise.
They're 7-7 in August, which isn't bad, but for a team trying to catch the Tampa Bay Rays and stay in front of the Boston Red Sox, it's not good enough. One of the big reasons for the middling play? The $138 million on the injured list.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report called out that $138M figure as the one statistic that has defined the season. It's also the one statistic that's making things a lot more challenging for the Yankees lately, as this stacked injured list is posing a real problem.
"New York Yankees (69-55): $138M presently on the IL," Miller writes. "The Yankees have seven players with a luxury tax of at least $22M. From that group, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Cody Bellinger and Carlos Rodon are presently on the IL."
