Paige Bueckers' heated Caitlin Clark sequence could lead to WNBA fine originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A one-on-one matchup between Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark ended with a whistle, a heated complaint and a potential fine for the Dallas Wings star. The sequence unfolded during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's game between the Wings and Indiana Fever. After Makayla Timpson secured a defensive rebound, she delivered the ball to Clark, who pushed it up the floor.
Bueckers attempted to stop Clark in transition but was called for a personal foul. The former UConn star immediately disputed the decision and appeared to argue that Clark had used her arm to create separation. The disagreement continued long enough for the official to **** s Bueckers a technical foul.
The technical initially was reported as Bueckers' second of the season, according to Athlon Sports. However, her first technical, issued during a May 22 game against the Atlanta Dream, later was rescinded. If Thursday's call is upheld, it would count as Bueckers' first official technical of the year.
WNBA players are fined $500 for each of their first three technical fouls. The penalty increases to $1,000 for technicals four through seven. An eighth technical results in a $1,500 fine and a one-game suspension, with another suspension following every second technical after that threshold. That means Bueckers could receive a $500 fine following the Clark sequence.

Arike Ogunbowale's reaction to Kelsey Mitchell foul could come with added cost originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Dallas Wings' matchup with the Indiana Fever produced frustration early Thursday night, and Arike Ogunbowale could end up paying for it in more ways than one. Ogunbowale received a technical foul with 2:21 remaining in the first quarter after she was whistled for a personal foul against Kelsey Mitchell. The Dallas guard disputed the decision and continued making her case to an official, who quickly ***** sed the technical.
Caitlin Clark missed the ensuing technical free throw, but Mitchell converted both attempts awarded for the original foul. The sequence did not create a major swing on the scoreboard. It could, however, create an unwanted charge for Ogunbowale.
The technical was Ogunbowale's second of the season. Under the WNBA's technical-foul structure, each of a player's first three technicals carries a $500 fine. Technicals four through seven result in $1,000 fines, while an eighth triggers a $1,500 fine and an automatic one-game suspension.
Ogunbowale therefore could be fined $500 if the call is upheld. There is at least some possibility the technical will not remain on her record. Ogunbowale previously had a technical rescinded this season, and the WNBA reviews such calls after games. Dallas also could appeal the decision.

The Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans were fined $500,000 each for fighting in their joint practice on Tuesday.
Owner Jerry Jones understands why the NFL is coming down hard on the team. The league put teams and players on notice that penalties would be levied for fighting in practice during training camp.
"Well I think that you have to have consequences and that needs to register," Jones said. "In other words you you we all know whether you're playing a game or out here in society if you aren't sensitive about the consequences of your behavior then you'll get brought to your knees pretty quick."
Jones said he will appeal the fine from the NFL.
But he will also fine individual Cowboys players for their roles in the infractions.

It seemed set in stone that the future of Toulouse FC's Dayann Methalie (20) belonged in the Premier League. Having been keen to secure the services of the young left-back for several weeks, AFC Sunderland had managed to reach an agreement with their French counterparts regarding the transfer of their rising star. Everything looked set… until the customary medical examination shook things up.
In fact, it was during this procedure that an abnormality in Methalie's back was reportedly identified, forcing the Black Cats to consider only two options: to proceed with the risk of aggravating the injury, or to put the player on a treatment programme that would keep him out of action for six weeks.
However, according to reports in L'Équipe, this ******* sment has not been shared by Téfécé's medical staff, who regard the Frenchman's problem as minor and of no consequence to his availability. Such conflicting opinions have prompted Sunderland's management to consult a Paris-based back specialist, who in turn confirmed that there was nothing of concern to report.
Not entirely reassured, the English club requested further medical opinions and, as a result, reportedly decided to put their initial offer on hold. This did not, however, prevent the Black Cats' management from proposing to Toulouse that they amend the terms of their agreement, ultimately offering a loan with an option to buy.
An alternative immediately dismissed out of hand by Les Violets' chairman, Olivier Cloarec, concerned about potential financial demands from the player's entourage, which would have further complicated the matter. A version of events denied by Sunderland.

A series of fights and skirmishes threatened to derail the New Orleans Saints' joint practice session with the Dallas Cowboys, but the Saints managed to get through the afternoon without any fight-related injuries. That's not to say they got out of it unscathed. Several players exited practice early, two of them starters: running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Quincy Riley. The severity of their injuries is not yet known.
"Only two guys who weren't able to finish practice were Alvin with a knee, and then Quincy with a groin," head coach Kellen Moore told reporters afterwards. "Other than that, good work, obviously you guys saw the chippiness of it. Not the ideal flow of a joint practice but we got the work that we needed. We'll have one more Thursday with the Rams, we've had a number (of practices) with those guys before, so (not worried)."
Moore later clarified that wide receiver Ronnie Bell left the practice with heat-related issues; he was seen walking slowly too the sideline before being driven indoors on a trainer's cart without his jersey. Wide receiver Chris Olave, the team's top wide receiver, briefly received attention from trainers after taking a hit on a catch but remained on the sidelines to observe the rest of practice. He later returned for the final sequence of team drills in a red zone period.
Fans and reporters covering the joint practice counted as many as six, seven, ten or more dustups over the course of the two-hour practice session. Both teams were fortunate to get out of it without any serious injuries from the fists and helmets flying around. We'll see if tempers flare up again on Thursday when the Saints and Rams meet for their own joint practice session.

Belal Muhammad agrees with Dana White that Ian Machado Garry lacked killer instinct at UFC 330.
Machado Garry (17-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC) was criticized by the UFC boss for being too friendly in his ***** le loss to welterweight champion Islam Makhachev (29-1 MMA, 18-1 UFC) in Saturday's main event at Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. With one judge having the fight tied at two rounds a piece heading into Round 5, Muhammad expected Machado Garry to go for it more.
"What's with this hugging? You're down in the fifth round. You've got to have the killer instinct," Muhammad said on his YouTube channel. "You've got to for it. His face wasn't beat up. It was an Adesanya vs. Gastelum war where you're like, 'Let's do it.' You were losing. Mindset-wise, he needs to flip the switch. His mindset was we didn't get tapped, we got up from a couple of takedowns, those are wins for him, and he has to change that. Stock-wise, he's going to learn from it. He's going to get better from it, but this game is unforgiving.
"You go against Morales next. You get one-punched and get knocked out. That head kick that Islam landed on you in the second round, if it knocked you out, it changes everything else. You can't waste an opportunity. You can't waste a moment, and I felt like he definitely wasted moments there. The one sequence that I was like Islam has this fight – obviously when it came to the fifth round, and he took the back, I was like, 'Oh, it's over.' When he had the body triangle in, I knew he wasn't going to get out of that situation. For Islam, that was his checkmate moment."
Machado Garry earned his ***** le shot by defeating former welterweight champion Muhammad by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 265.

Barcelona's summer has moved with that familiar blend of calculation, theatre and necessity, and now there is genuine momentum to examine. In a market where every move seems to carry a sporting purpose and a financial consequence, the Catalan club have reached an important juncture. Credit to The Athletic, the original source of these latest developments, for outlining a week that may yet define the rest of Barca's window.
What matters for Barcelona now is clarity. There has been activity, there has been sacrifice, and there is a clear sense of direction. Ferran Torres has gone to Paris Saint-Germain, Rodri is on his way in from Manchester City, Joao Cancelo is set to return on a free, and the club's hierarchy have narrowed their sights firmly on one remaining attacking priority. In the compressed language of modern recruitment, it all sounds neat. In the reality of Barcelona, it still carries layers of risk, ambition and pressure.
The first significant development is Ferran Torres' departure. As reported, "Ferran Torres' €50million move to PSG was made official." That sentence alone tells a wider story. Torres had talent, pedigree and moments of real quality, but he also represented one of those investments Barcelona had to manage carefully. From the club's perspective, this is far more than a footballing farewell. The report notes that "from a financial perspective, the Catalan club regards this deal as highly satisfactory", which is another way of saying Barca believe they have navigated a difficult piece of business with uncommon efficiency.
If the Torres exit was pragmatic, the Rodri move feels emblematic. Barcelona have "reached agreement with City over the signing of Rodri in a deal that could be worth up to €76.5million but involves an initial fee of €60m for the 30-year-old midfielder." It is a statement signing in age profile, in status and in intent. Rodri is not a speculative purchase, nor a developmental talent for the future. He is an accomplished operator arriving to impose order, rhythm and authority.
Rodri's arrival feels like the start of the final phase of this window, not the conclusion of it. He strengthens one line, but he also enables the club to move into the last stretch with a little more certainty and a little less suffocation from the wage structure.

Everton continue talks with Tottenham over a possible Richarlison return, according to a report from Sébastien Vidal. Regular contact has continued between the clubs as the 29-year-old Brazilian considers a return to Goodison Park. Tottenham have no active push to sell him, yet Spurs remain open to a deal because his contract runs until 2027. Everton could wait for Beto or Thierno Barry to leave before moving faster. The report places those exits at the centre of the timing, with the Toffees needing room before accelerating.
Vidal's update points to a live discussion rather than an agreed transfer. Richarlison's willingness gives Everton encouragement, while Tottenham's stance keeps the door open without forcing negotiations. Spurs can still retain the forward, and that leverage is important with the window approaching its final stretch. For Everton, the sequence looks clear: sort an attacking departure first, then decide whether a reunion merits a formal push.

Richarlison gives Everton a reason to spend. He earned 54 Brazil caps and scored 20 goals, while his 2025/26 Tottenham season brought 11 Premier League goals and four ***** ists from 32 appearances, including 20 starts, across 1,975 minutes. He added one goal and one ***** ist in seven Champions League games. That record gives Moyes a proven scorer for an attack needing more effectiveness.
Context matters, though. Beto scored nine Premier League goals for Everton last season, while Thierno Barry registered eight, so the numbers don't suggest a disaster. Still, Richarlison offers qualities the current options don't replicate: he can lead the line, drift left, press hard and handle Goodison Park pressure, where he scored 53 goals across four seasons.

NEW YORK (AP) — Running on New York Mets right fielder Carson Benge is quickly becoming a bad idea.
The strong-armed rookie threw out a pair of San Diego Padres at home plate on consecutive plays Monday night, earning two standing ovations and giving Benge four ***** ists in a span of 13 innings over the past three days.
Not to be outdone, good buddy and fellow New York rookie A.J. Ewing also cut down a runner at the plate from left field moments later.
According to SNY, that made the Mets the only major league team since at least 1920 with three outfield ***** ists at the plate in the first two innings of a game.
The astounding sequence started after the Padres hit two straight singles off rookie Nolan McLean to put runners at first and second with one out in the first. Ty France looped a soft single to right-center and Benge fired a one-hop throw to the plate, where Jake Cronenworth was out by plenty. He tried to jump over Francisco Alvarez but tumbled to the turf after the catcher applied the tag.

Slo-mo Angel Reese-Sophie Cunningham replay sparks outrage after Fever-Dream thriller originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Indiana Fever's overtime victory over the Atlanta Dream delivered just about everything expected from one of the WNBA's most heated matchups. The game included a massive comeback, physical play, late drama and another officiating controversy involving Sophie Cunningham. Indiana erased an 18-point deficit to defeat Atlanta 95-91 in overtime Sunday at State Farm Arena. The victory itself should have been the biggest story, but a slow-motion replay of an off-ball exchange between Cunningham and Angel Reese quickly captured attention online.
The video showed Cunningham attempting to establish position near the basket before Reese extended her arms into the Fever guard's back. Cunningham fell to the floor, but officials did not call a foul.
OutKick shared the replay while describing the sequence as "another Angel Reese foul."
The contact could be interpreted differently at full speed, especially during a physical battle for rebounding position. The slow-motion angle, however, fueled criticism from fans who believed Reese clearly pushed Cunningham directly in front of an official.

Tanner McKee has already shown enough in the NFL to make the idea of trading him intriguing. He has shown moxie in relief and as a starter. Fair or unfair, that makes the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens feel particularly disappointing. It is easy to forget that McKee's first NFL game action came in Week 17 of his second season in 2024, when he replaced Kenny Pickett against the Dallas Cowboys and threw two touchdown passes on just three completions.
The following week, he completed 27 of 41 passes with two touchdowns in a 20-13 victory over the New York Giants as Philadelphia's starter. His 2025 season was quieter, which was understandable for a third-string quarterback.
McKee made only one start, completing 21 of 40 passes with one touchdown and one interception in a 24-17 loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 18. Perspective is necessary, though. The Eagles weren't playing their starters that week, and there wasn't much to play for.
The circumstances made the game feel somewhat like a preseason contest, even if it technically counted. Saturday's loss in Baltimore carried even less consequence. However, McKee's performance still mattered because Philadelphia is evaluating him alongside Andy Dalton and may also be considering his value on the trade market.
There has been plenty of discussion surrounding Philadelphia's reported attempts to trade McKee, including speculation that the Eagles' asking price in draft capital (a second-rounder) may have been too high for interested teams.

Future plans surrounding the late Princess Diana's 30th death anniversary may reportedly put Meghan Markle's loyalty to her husband, Prince Harry, to a very difficult test. The report came amid speculation about whether the ***** ss of Sussex will join the Duke of Sussex during an alleged future trip to the UK to mark the important and quite emotional occasion.
The Sussex couple stepped down as working royals and left their royal lives in the UK behind to settle down in the US in 2020. Since then, the ***** ss of Sussex has made a few visits to Britain. She recently reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla, alongside her husband and two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove House.
Meghan Markle has allegedly been contemplating her future return to the UK with her husband, Prince Harry, to mark her late mother-in-law Princess Diana's 30th death anniversary. As reported by RadarOnline, a source said, "It is a hugely difficult decision for Meghan because there is no option without consequences."
The person continued that the ***** ss of Sussex "wants to support Harry during events that will be incredibly important and emotional for him." The source then explained, "But returning also means exposing herself to enormous scrutiny." The person also added, "And potentially walking straight back into unresolved family tensions."
In the meantime, per the news outlet, another insider explained, "Diana's anniversary makes everything particularly sensitive." The person continued that Prince Harry "would naturally want his wife beside him." The insider then said, "But if William and Catherine attend the same commemorations." The person continued, "The focus could quickly shift from Diana to the divisions within the family."

Your recap for the Cubs' 11-4 loss to the Cardinals Sunday is basically in the headline. Edward Cabrera returned from injury, got hit hard and didn't have command, and then Dansby Swanson took a swing in the third inning and immediately came out of the game.
I guess I could wrap things here, but… you come here for a complete recap and you are going to get one.
First, I was amused by this sequence of social media posts. When Craig Counsell met with media before the game, here's what he said about the Cubs upcoming rotation:
Five-plus hours later, after Cabrera's disastrous outing, here's what the media heard from Counsell:
Gee, Craig. Ya think?!?!?!

A California teenager pleaded guilty Friday to repeatedly kicking a sea lion in the face and chasing the animal as it tried to escape, according to video of the attack.
Tyler Muehl, 18, who lives in the San Diego seaside neighborhood of La Jolla, entered his plea in a federal courtroom to a misdemeanor violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act's prohibition on harassing wildlife, the Justice Department said.
"Federal crime. Federal consequences," U.S. Attorney Adam Gordon wrote in a statement.

Manchester City are actively exploring a deal for Ayyoub Bouaddi, with Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti confirming that contact is taking place as Pep Guardiola's side continue reshaping their midfield. According to Telegraph, Bouaddi has emerged as a serious target during a summer that could redefine the balance of City's engine room.
Ancelotti has made Lille's position clear, admitting, "Manchester City are in talks to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi," while also stressing that the French club would prefer the move not to happen in this window. That stance is understandable. Bouaddi is only 18, yet his stock has risen rapidly after a sequence of mature displays, including an eye-catching performance against Brazil in Morocco's opening World Cup fixture.
City's interest reflects wider movement in the centre of the pitch. Rodri is understood to want a switch to Barcelona, while Tijjani Rijnders has already departed for Saudi Arabian side Al Qadisah. Those developments have increased the urgency around recruitment, and Bouaddi appears to fit the profile of a long-term elite option with immediate upside.
Lille, however, are under little pressure to sell and would be highly resistant to losing one of their brightest ******* ets. The valuation under discussion is substantial, with any agreement expected to require at least £85m, which the original reporting states as €100m. For a player of Bouaddi's age, that is a major commitment, but it also underlines how highly he is rated across Europe.

That was an enjoyable baseball game.
The Mariners beat the Astros 10-5 on Saturday in Houston. The offense strung together a bunch of hits early and found some power late. Emerson Hancock turned in another outing so good that it would have seemed laughable about this time last year. The season is over, of course, and the Mariners are still eight games below .500. But this was a nice reminder that even losing baseball seasons can have a few gems.
Despite the final line, Hancock was in trouble right out of the gate. In the bottom of the first, he walked Yordan Alvarez and gave up three straight singles to open the scoring at 1-0. None of the singles were hit too hard, but with the bases loaded and just one out, this felt like a looming clunker. Then Hancock put together a fun little sequence to Christian Walker:
Fastball paint, called strike
Fastball paint, called ball but challenged for a strike

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart started the 2026 season in the most familiar way possible for Giants' fans: A trip to the blue tent to be evaluated for a concussion, followed immediately by a touchdown on an improvised pass play.
The headline of the day was the two-play sequence to end the first quarter and start the second. Dart took a massive hit on a 2nd-and-10 blitz from the Vikings when Dart failed to identify the blitzer and running back Tyrone Tracy failed to pick up the blitz.
Dart got up gingerly after the hit and was immediately called to the blue tent to be evaluated for a concussion while Giants fans held their breath. He surprisingly returned for the first play of the second quarter, and immediately found rookie Malachi Fields once the play broke down.
Dart missed two games with a concussion last season, and was tested for concussions on four other occasions. He was "puzzled" by the concussion test on Saturday.
"As far as the blue tent, I really respect the rules and the thought behind the NFL has of keeping players healthy and reviewing things, but at the same time, I'm still puzzled by it just feeling like every time that I get hit, I find my way in there," Dart said. "Which at times, I still try to wrap my head around, but that's all that I'm going to say about that situation."

Years ago, Odell Beckham Jr.'s wacky relationship with a kicking net on the sideline made headlines. In 2026, there's a new Giant in town forming a familiar relationship with a different sideline apparatus.
Second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart was back in the blue medical tent on Aug. 15 during New York's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings. After undergoing five concussion checks from hard hits he took as a rookie, Dart needed to be evaluated for a head injury once more after taking a hard sack in his first game as a second-year.
The 2025 first-round pick took a massive hit on a safety blitz from Vikings defensive back Jay Ward. Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. missed his block, and Dart paid the price. The young quarterback headed to the tent for a concussion evaluation, though he eventually returned.
"I'm not gonna talk too much about the tent," Dart said with a smile when asked during the broadcast about the sequence. "Obviously, there's just little things we gotta clean up on."

Dart completed 3 of 4 passes (75%) for 26 yards (6.5 per attempt) and a touchdown. Dart was also sacked twice, once on each drive.
This was about what we've come to expect from Dart: Big hits, big plays, and play that seems more impressive than his stats. Dart left the game after his touchdown and will now go back to practice with a list of things to work on.

Liverpool's pursuit of Bradley Barcola has dragged on long enough to invite doubt, noise and the usual transfer-window nonsense. Strip that away and the position looks fairly clear. Liverpool want the player, the player wants Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain may finally be approaching the point where keeping him becomes less important than cashing in at the right price.
That is the crux of the latest update, with credit to Ben Jacobs on GiveMeSport's Market Madness podcast. The key line remains unchanged: "Liverpool feel they've got that Barcola buy-in, so the only way someone else is going to beat Liverpool in Liverpool's eyes, at least, and I stress that's Liverpool's sources' perspective, is if they get completely outbid and then back away."
That matters because it frames this as a deal Liverpool believe they can still control. **** nal may admire Barcola, and plenty of elite clubs will keep an eye on any forward of this level, but admiration is cheap. Convincing the player is harder, and by all accounts Liverpool think they have done that part already.
The real development is not on Merseyside, it is in Paris. PSG are reshaping their attacking options, and once clubs start stockpiling players in the same area of the pitch, priorities change. As Jacobs explained, "And now, what is the domino or three dominoes really is Maghnes Akliouche coming in from Monaco, Ferran Torres coming in from Barcelona, plus the fact that Mika Godts is expected to join from Ajax. That's three attack-minded players, and suddenly PSG have more urgency to sell Barcola. So Liverpool have been playing a waiting game in order to see whether that 170 million euro price drops. Now PSG are about to add two more editions on top of Akliouche."
That is where this starts to look less like wishful thinking and more like sensible timing. Liverpool were never likely to sprint into a €170 million, £145m, agreement unless they had no alternative. They have already spent heavily in recent windows, and no serious club keeps throwing £100m-plus fees around without calculating the consequences. Waiting for market pressure to build on PSG was logical.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. didn't end his Rogers Centre home run drought Friday night against the New York Yankees; however, he did make serious contact in the sixth inning — with the knee of Yankees rookie shortstop George Lombard Jr., that is.
His worrisome collision at third base took place amid a head-scratching sequence that saw the Yankees flub a double-play opportunity. A chopper from George Springer was corralled by Ryan McMahon, who stepped on the third-base bag and fired a toss to first. But it needed a bounce to reach first, where Luis García Jr.'s glove popped off as he tried to stab the ball for the inning-ending out.
García got on his horse, collected the ball, turned and whipped it back to third. The problem was, no one was covering the bag. As Lombard attempted to chase down the throw, he ran into a sliding Guerrero, who weathered a blow to the head before wincing on his way home for Toronto's first run in a 3-1 series-opening victory over the Yankees (68-54).
The Blue Jays (60-64), now only one game back of the final wild-card spot in the American League after selling at the trade deadline, improved to 6-2 in their past eight games, in large part thanks to catcher Alejandro Kirk. He scored Springer in the sixth with a two-out double. Then he launched a solo shot in the eighth.
Guerrero, though, didn't return to the game after the thump he endured. He finished 1-for-3 with a single.

(NEXSTAR) – A recall affecting nearly 1.6 million cartons of eggs has been ******* igned to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's most serious risk category.
The recall, which was initiated over concerns of potential salmonella enteritidis contamination, was categorized on Wednesday by the FDA as "Class I," indicating "a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death."
The new Class I designation was included in the agency's enforcement report for the existing recall.
Nearly 30,000 pounds of beef recalled under highest 'Class 1' risk level
The FDA has explained, however, that it often categorizes a recall well after the initiating firm makes the recall announcement, so it should not necessarily be viewed "as an expansion or change" to the firm's initial recall.

Yesterday our own Jeremy Nielsen described the Yankee offense no-showing like they were itching to just get on the plane and start their road trip already. Tonight felt like the bats somehow never left the tarmac, because aside from Trent Grisham poking one out of the stands there just wasn't anything to show for their at-bats. The Yankees wasted another solid pitching performance and allowed a starter on the other side that has been struggling to cut right through them in a 3-1 loss to Toronto.
Shane Bieber was on the mound for the Blue Jays, and he entered this game with a gaudy 5.48 ERA — naturally, that was of little consequence to this lineup. Bieber sat down the Yankees in order in the first inning, picking up strikeouts from Grisham and Spencer Jones, and worked around a one-out Jazz Chisholm Jr. single in the second. The third brought the first real instance of a pulse, Austin Wells leading off with a walk before getting forced out at second. Grisham stepped up and provided a single that should've made it a rally, but George Lombard Jr. was caught in the middle of trying to go for third and didn't get back to second in time, instead winding up in a rundown. A Ben Rice groundout ended the disappointing frame.
View Link
The fourth brought more opportunities to squander, as Jones led off with a double and advanced to third on a flyout from Luis García Jr. (Jones was briefly called out on the tag up, but a challenge overturned that call as he was clearly never tagged despite the throw beating him). Still, two more fly outs were all the Yankees managed, and the first one was too shallow for Jones to test with another tag up. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Yankees finally caught a break, Grisham crushing a middle-middle fastball out to right field to get them on the scoreboard.

The calendar has flipped to August. Which means we're in the dog days of the NBA's year-round calendar. Little will happen over the next two months as teams across the league prepare for the 2026-27 season. Before we move on, though, let's reflect one last time on last year.
The Oklahoma City Thunder had a league-best 64-18 regular-season record. Juggling injuries all year, they overcame notable absences all year. Alas, they fell short of a second NBA championship with a 2026 Western Conference Finals exit.
To reflect on their 2025-26 season, Thunder Wire will conduct player grades for all 20 players who suited up for them this past year. Twelfth up is Thomas Sorber, who missed his first season with a torn ACL:
This is the big one for Sorber. It'll be about 18 months between games. That's a long time to be sidelined in basketball. He missed the last month of his collegiate season with foot surgery in Feb. 2025. He then had a season-ending torn ACL in Sept. 2025. And then he had a second knee surgery in July 2025. He missed a second straight Summer League. The first time he'll get to suit up for OKC will be in the 2026-27 preseason. I'm not a medical expert, but a bunch of lower extremity surgeries this early in your career as a big man can be scary.
Let's see if Sorber can finally put this all behind him. The good news is torn ACLs are fairly easy to rebound from. The biggest consequence of the injury is the missed time involved with it. It'll be incredibly important for him to stay healthy in his first real year in the NBA. You have a four-year runway to show something after you get drafted.

Aug. 11—PULLMAN — When it's at its best, when players are zigging and zagging and swimming and powering through, Washington State's defensive line can look like a tidal wave. The Cougars can overwhelm anyone in their way, offensive linemen from the first or second team, tight ends staying in for extra protection, poor running backs trying their best to chip block to buy their quarterback a half-second of time.
They come crashing from all angles. Matyus McLain and Linus Zunk from the edges, Paul Hutson and Kaden Beatty and Jirah Leaupepetele from the interior, all surging forward to crash toward the quarterback like a tsunami leveling a city square. It isn't so much about if they'll force the offense into a mistake. It's more about when.
That group made its presence felt in Tuesday's fall camp practice, WSU's fifth of the slate, terrorizing all manner of offensive counterparts in the second half of practice, which unfolded at Gesa Field. Highlights belonged to all kinds of linemen: Leaupepetele beat his matchup to stack up several inside runs, as did fellow lineman Malachi Wrice, and on one sequence, a sea of Cougars converged to drive running back Leo Pulalasi backward for a loss.
And that's to say nothing of one succession of plays in particular. On three straight plays in 11-on-11 settings, quarterback Julian Dugger took three straight sacks: one from cornerback Ishmael Gibbs, who cashed in on a well-designed cornerback blitz; one from emerging defensive tackle Josh Wedel; and one from redshirt freshman defensive tackle Malijah Tucker. Each defender beat his matchups up front to surge into the backfield for simulated tackles.
It was by far the best day of fall camp for WSU's defensive front, which might be the deepest position on the team. On Tuesday, the Cougars got big plays from Leaupepetele, Wrice, Wedel and Tucker, but as camp unfolds and the season approaches, they've gotten the same from Hutson, SMU transfer Damarjhe Lewis, Balaam Miller and others.

A former Nebraska women's basketball coach has acknowledged engaging in a five-month ***** ual affair with a player he supervised on the Nebraska team but said it was consensual and is now making an argument in court that he should be dismissed from that player's lawsuit against him, according to documents obtained by USA TODAY Sports.
The coach is former Cornhuskers ***** istant coach Chuck Love, who is being sued by the player, Ashley Scoggin, as part of a ***** le IX lawsuit in federal court. Scoggin sued Love and Nebraska in 2024, alleging she was groomed to have a ***** ual relationship with Love and then was kicked off the team after their relationship was uncovered in a ruse at a team hotel in February 2022.
In response, Love filed a motion for summary judgment July 31 that would drop him from the lawsuit if successful. This motion argues while he had a ***** ual relationship with Scoggin at Nebraska, it was consensual and doesn't violate the constitution.
"Plaintiff (Scoggin) and Love engaged in a consensual ***** ual relationship from September, 2021 – February, 2022," said the brief filed with the motion from Love's attorney, Denise Frost. "They told no one about it. Love did not make, imply or impose threats, retaliation or adverse consequences on Plaintiff in order to have ***** ual contact with her. Plaintiff never told Love 'no' to ***** ual contact or refused to engage with him."
Love's supporting brief said Scoggin initiated and engaged Love in ***** ually charged conversations and created provocative nude and semi-nude photos of herself and sent them to Love on Snapchat. Love's brief also said he and Scoggin had consensual ***** ual contact in various places, including the Speedway parking lot in Lincoln, in Love's office, in a Nebraska locker room, at Love's home and hotel rooms when the team traveled out of state. It noted Scoggin was 23 at the time and Love was 35.

The Cleveland Browns' training camp took an unexpected turn Monday when head coach Todd Monken ended practice early after a frustrating sequence of mistakes during the team's final two minute drill.
The Browns were working on a late game situation when the offense struggled to execute. Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson both received opportunities, but neither group was able to finish the drill cleanly. Sanders' drive included multiple pre snap penalties, while Watson's possession also featured mistakes, including a sack, an illegal formation and another false start.
The mistakes appeared to push Monken over the edge. The first year Browns head coach has emphasized discipline and avoiding emotional mistakes throughout training camp, but Monday's practice ended with visible frustration. Monken later acknowledged that he became "emotionally hijacked" by the way the session finished.
Ending practice early sent a clear message to the team. With the regular season approaching, the Browns cannot afford repeated penalties and communication issues, particularly on an offense that is still adjusting to a number of new pieces. Cleveland's offensive line is undergoing significant changes, making consistency especially important during camp.
The quarterback competition between Sanders and Watson also adds another layer of attention to every practice. Watson has received more first-team opportunities, while Sanders continues to compete for the starting job. Monken has said the competition will continue, with each quarterback expected to start one of the Browns' first two preseason games before the team makes its decision for Week 1.
