That's tiny compared to a conventional nuclear power plant, which typically generates at least 1,000 MWe, but Aurora's Powerhouse plants can be deployed on less land in remote, off-grid areas.
The Aurora also uses metallic uranium fuel pellets, which are denser, have higher thermal resistance, and are cheaper to produce than the uranium dioxide fuel pellets that power conventional reactors. By recycling its pellets in a closed loop, the Aurora can last for a decade without refueling. Conventional reactors are still refueled in stages every two years.

GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) completed its acquisition of SECURE Waste Infrastructure, adding a specialized waste and energy-infrastructure platform across Western Canada and North Dakota. At the announcement, the transaction had a C$6.4 billion enterprise value, with shareholder consideration comprising 80% GFL shares and 20% cash.
Closing required the issuance of 75,126,306 subordinate voting shares, capacity under the revolving credit facility, and a new US$1 billion senior secured term loan. The loan matures in August 2033 and carries interest at the Secured Overnight Financing Rate plus 200 basis points. GFL Environmental Inc. (NYSE:GFL) estimates an interest rate of approximately 5% after its cross-currency interest-rate swaps.
SECURE brings a difficult-to-replicate network spanning more than 80 locations, including landfills, waste-treatment and recycling facilities, injection wells and transfer stations. It also operates crude oil terminals, storage facilities and pipeline-connected infrastructure. The ****** ets broaden services and operating density in Western Canada.
More than 2,000 SECURE employees are joining the combined company. SECURE President and Chief Executive Officer Allen Gransch and other managers will continue leading the acquired operations as employees and shareholders. Retaining the operating team should help preserve customer relationships and institutional knowledge during integration.
The acquisition cost is spread across debt and equity. The 2033 maturity provides time for cash generation, while management said the term-loan transaction did not affect the company's credit rating.

Precision Medicine Group, based in Bethesda, Maryland, provides clinical research, laboratory testing, and commercialization services that help biopharma companies develop and launch new medicines. Communities across North Yorkshire are preparing to welcome the Tour of Britain men's cycling race on Saturday.
The fourth stage of the men's tour will start in Helmsley, with the cyclists travelling through Ripon on their way to the Yorkshire Dales before finishing in Leyburn.
Stretching approximately 103 miles (166km) with 8,800ft (2,699m) of elevation, it is expected to be the race's most challenging day and "could play a key role in deciding the overall winner" of the competition, according to British Cycling.
Almost £10,000 has been awarded to towns and villages along the route to enable them to create community displays and decorations celebrating the race's visit to the area.
After setting off from Helmsley in the North York Moors at 11:00 BST, the route passes through the towns of Easingwold at 11:35 and Boroughbridge at about 11:55, before reaching Ripon at about 12:20 and then heading into the Yorkshire Dales.

The Bahrain-Victorious prodigy was part of a 30-strong breakaway on the 166.6km stage 12, a dramatic up-and-down day after two flatter stages for the sprinters.
Fireworks were always expected on the back-to-back category-one climbs at the end of the day and Omrzel duly provided them, taking his first WorldTour victory on the biggest stage - and on his debut grand tour.
The youngster - a former winner of the Giro d'Italia Next Gen, a prestigious stage race for under-23 riders - went solo with 12km to go on the final climb, the Calar Alto, a 17km behemoth averaging 5.6%.
The breakaway splintered apart in his wake and he held on to win by 1 minute 56 seconds from Urko Berrade, covering his face in delight and punching the air as he crossed the line.

Pogačar was expected to undergo surgery after being sent hurdling head-over-handlebars in a frightening crash that forced him to pull out of the Vuelta. He suffered a concussion and broke two bones after he appeared to lose control when a stone came rolling across the road.

On August 20, ATRenew (NYSE:RERE) reported second-quarter results that beat the high end of its own guidance, with revenue climbing 32.4% year over year to RMB 6.6 billion. Net income jumped 78.6% to RMB 129.1 million, and the company kept buying back shares even as it pushed into new markets overseas. For a business built on other people's used phones, that pairing of faster growth and faster profit is the number worth sitting with.
The engine behind that growth is ATRenew's 1P model, where the company buys, refurbishes, and resells devices itself rather than just running a marketplace. Net product revenue rose 35.9% to RMB 6.2 billion, and the company moved 11.6 million consumer products during the quarter, up from 10.3 million a year earlier. Owning more of that chain is also making each device more profitable. Gross margin on the 1P business rose to 15.7% from 13.2% a year ago, and 1P-to-C retail revenue, the curated resale of phones and computers, grew 92.4% and now makes up 48.8% of product revenue, up from 34.4% last year. Revenue from refurbished products alone grew 87.8%.
All of that flowed to the bottom line: non-GAAP operating income rose 70.1% to RMB 206.3 million, with margin expanding 69 basis points to 3.1%. Newer categories are following the same pattern. Luxury recycling revenue grew 77.3% after the company upgraded select stores into specialized formats, and its B2B marketplace, PJT, grew its registered merchant base to 2.2 million while lifting inspection penetration to 84.4%, up 11.5 percentage points from a year ago. Overseas, the company crossed HKD 120 million in monthly export sales in June and is now building out its FoneSquare and ReRe brands toward hubs in Hong Kong, Dubai, and Miami.
Not every part of the business is pulling in the same direction. Net service revenue fell 4.2% to RMB 414.6 million, a decline the company tied to discretionary discounts handed to merchants during its extended June 18 promotional push. Gold recycling revenue fell even harder, down 35%, as gold prices swung lower and the company chose to pass higher payouts to users rather than protect its own take. Costs are climbing too. Fulfillment expenses rose 31.1% to RMB 540 million as the company staffed up its to-door recycling teams during peak demand.
Physical footprint is also shrinking at the edges, with the company trimming its AHS store count to 2,117 locations by closing underperforming sites. And management flagged a timing risk heading into the back half of the year, noting that expectations around Apple's next iPhone lineup could push device volume into the fourth quarter and early next year rather than this one. Guidance itself points to a slower pace ahead. ATRenew expects third-quarter revenue of RMB 6.3 billion to RMB 6.4 billion, growth of 23.1% to 25.1%, a clear step down from the 32.4% posted this quarter.

During the quarter ending June 30, Tepper's Appaloosa increased its position in Amazon by 680,000 shares, or just under 15.8%. During this same time frame, Appaloosa reduced its Micron position by 41.4% and exited its Sandisk position entirely. The fund also increased its positions in Alphabet and Meta Platforms by 6.7% and 54.6%, respectively.
This strongly suggests a cycling out of "pick-and-shovel" artificial intelligence (AI) plays, into hyperscaler stocks. Tepper's fund may have made an aggressive pivot toward Facebook and Instagram parent Meta Platforms, but given that Meta accounts for only 5.1% of the overall portfolio, Amazon seems to remain the investor's highest-conviction bet on the AI growth trend.

The US Department of Energy (DoE) has awarded $500m to seven companies developing domestic critical minerals processing, battery recycling and advanced battery-material projects, according to a DoE press release and reporting by Reuters.
The announcement comes as the US administration seeks to expand domestic supply chains for materials used across energy, industrial and defence applications.
The funding, announced on 20 August, is the third round of grants under the DoE's Battery Materials Processing and Battery Manufacturing and Recycling programmes. The department said the selected projects would expand US processing and recycling capacity while reducing reliance on foreign sources.
The awards come as President Donald Trump has called for the US to become the world's "minerals superpower" and reduce its dependence on China for critical materials. Reuters reported that the administration has been using loans, grants and government investments to encourage domestic mining and processing projects.
Audrey Robertson, ****** istant Secretary at the DOE, told Reuters that hundreds of applications had been received for the latest funding round. The selected projects, she said, were those considered "most promising" and offering the highest potential return in areas of the battery supply chain identified as priorities.

Chicago's lakefront was filled with young competitors Saturday morning as athletes of all ages gathered for Supertri Chicago weekend, beginning with the 2026 Supertri Chicago Kids Triathlon at Foster Beach.
The race got underway with a countdown of "three, two, one," followed by the sounding of horns as participants entered the competition.
Some of the city's youngest athletes took on the waters of Lake Michigan and then transitioned to cycling and running in the triathlon challenge. Among them was 12-year-old Brooke Casey, a veteran participant who said the event remains a highlight.
"It's just fun. And I like when I see other people doing it like I see like little kids doing it and it's really fun," Casey said.
For Casey and her brother Kyle, the event has become a family tradition. Their father, Brendan Casey, said the family's involvement spans more than a decade.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — South African cyclist S'annara Grove has been provisionally suspended because of a failed doping test, the International Testing Agency said Friday.
Grove's sample collected on July 28 at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow returned an "adverse ****** ytical finding" for ipamorelin, the ITA said.
Ipamorelin, prohibited in and out of competition, "is a synthetic peptide used to stimulate the body's natural production of growth hormone," the testing agency said.
The ITA said Grove, who didn't medal in her track cycling events at the Commonwealth Games, has been informed of the case and has the right to challenge the provisional suspension.
The 32-year-old Grove rides professionally for the Smurfit Westrock team and is listed as a competitor in the current Tour of Britain. The third stage of the race was Friday.

We've written a TON in these pages about crime in our collectible corner of the world, but this week we published a piece that hit close to home. Mantel's Mike Metzler had a package with just-graded cards stolen, and through some admirable sleuthing, found a few of them cycling though the hobby.
And that alerted Mike to a problem worth solving- how can the hobby keep an eye out for stolen cards that pop up at shows and on marketplaces? So he teamed up with Nick Jarmin and the Certified Trading Card **** ociation (CTCA) to launch the Global Trading Card Registry.
If you've ever had a card stolen, or want to check if a card you're looking to buy is clean, sign up for the registry. It's a great service to the hobby that will become even more useful the more people use it.
Shohei Ohtani's signed, game-worn Tokyo Series cleats sold for a record $440,055 on The Realest, making them the most expensive baseball shoes ever auctioned. Worn in Ohtani's MLB debut in **** an, the cleats combined rare Kanji signatures, debut signature-shoe status, and historic provenance to redefine the market for game-used footwear. Ohtani didn't record any steals while wearing the cleats, but we think, despite hitting a record price, the auction winner got one here.

With 12 days remaining before the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and former first lady Lisa Nutter are cheering on the return of a race they say is an important part of the city's cycling culture.
The couple recently spoke about their involvement in bringing the event back and about their own connection to the sport, which extends beyond advocacy and into competition.
While Lisa Nutter is known as a supporter of cycling, she is also a competitive athlete who competes in indoor track cycling races.
Michael Nutter noted her accomplishments on the track: "Four-time national champion in track cycling. Two different age groups."
"For me, the competition is in the velodrome," Lisa Nutter said, explaining the lightning-fast sport. "I'm a sprinter so our races are seconds long."

Riders are risking their lives in races where organisers battle huge costs, and cycling's world governing body the UCI "cannot keep traffic off the roads", according to former rider and team boss Jonathan Vaughters.
Britain's Fin Tarling, 19, died during the Volta a Portugal on Friday following a high-speed collision with a van which had strayed on to the closed road.
A Go Fund Me page to promote young cycling talent has been set up in memory of Tarling, who rode for the NSN Cycling Development Team and was brother to Netcompany-Ineos' Josh Tarling.
Vaughters, who is co-founder and boss of the EF Education-Easypost World Tour team told BBC Sport: "What I'm really not enjoying is this sentiment that's coming from very powerful people in cycling, that says: 'What can you do? Sometimes cars just end up on the road - this is just part of doing competitive sport on the open road.' That is not true. This is preventable."
He added: "People look at the Tour de France and see a bunch of riders going through the beautiful French countryside, but fundamentally it's a very dangerous sport. From the start of my career I can't tell you how many people we've lost."

The EU's Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation is creating a more consistent framework, but small businesses selling across borders still face national EPR systems, registration and reporting requirements.
The EU's new packaging regime is intended to make rules more consistent across the single market. For small businesses selling products across borders, however, a common regulatory framework does not necessarily mean a common compliance process.
Regulation (EU) 2025/40, known as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), entered into force on 11 February 2025 and generally applies from 12 August 2026. It covers packaging and packaging waste regardless of material or origin, with requirements covering packaging design, composition, reuse, recycling and waste management.
The regulation aims to reduce packaging waste and its environmental and health impacts while improving the functioning of the EU internal market.
Yet one important part of the system – extended producer responsibility (EPR) – continues to rely on national registers and arrangements.

Aug. 17—BEMIDJI — For Bemidji High School seniors Liam Larson and Ben Lindgren, telling their classmates about their fall sport of choice is all too predictable.
They're usually met with a look of puzzlement, with the eventual realization of, "Bemidji has a mountain bike team?"
It's true, Bemidji has had a mountain bike team for just about a decade. Composed of students from Bemidji Middle and High School, it's still relatively new, and it's definitely niche in the landscape of high school sports. They compete in the Minnesota Cycling ***** ociation instead of the Minnesota State High School League
But for those who love it, their passion is shown openly.
"It's always so much fun," Larson said. "Sometimes we'll just hang out after practice and go swimming or something, since it's such a small community and a small, tight-knit group of people. But yeah, it's always a blast."
