The world mourned the loss of Patrick Stewart on Thursday as the iconic actor passed at the age of 86 after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia. Stewart was a prolific stage actor as well as taking on massive roles in both television and film. He played Captain Jean-Luc Picard for 176 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as starring as Professor X in eight X-Men movies -- including post-credit scenes and cameos -- across both the Fox and Marvel Cinematic universes (with the ninth coming this December with Avengers: Doomsday).
But one of the things that made Stewart so special and beloved was his willingness to do something goofy or funny. Such was the case in a 2024 Super Bowl commercial for Paramount+. Not only did Stewart star alongside well-known CBS and Paramount+ characters like Survivor's Jeff Probst, Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog, daytime host Drew Barrymore and Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa.
Knuckles appears in the new Paramount+ Super Bowl commercial. pic.twitter.com/tuD7G4GfXz
— Sonic The Wereblog (Sonic_Hedgeblog) February 1, 2024
It's a truly ridiculous commercial that features Stewart trying to convince Tagovailoa to throw Arnold of Hey Arnold! to the top of a mountain. "Not built for the moment, I see," Stewart delivers as if he's on stage in the West End.

In his surprise return to the ATP 500 event in Basel this year, Novak Djokovic could not quite produce the run he would have hoped for, as he fell to Jan-Lennard Struff in his second match of the tournament.
Although it was a tightly contested encounter, with all three sets reaching the 5-5 mark, Djokovic eventually lost after making some uncharacteristic errors in the final-set tiebreak, handing Struff his first-ever victory against him in their ninth meeting.
At this stage of his career, Djokovic is far removed from needing results at ATP 500 tournaments. However, he has consistently stated that, regardless of his age, he always plays to win. More importantly, this defeat has dented his hopes of achieving something he was particularly keen on when returning to Basel: securing his place at the ATP Finals in Turin in just over two weeks.
Djokovic entered Basel ranked 12th in the Race to Turin, an event for which only the top eight players qualify. This is a significant change from previous years, when the Serbian would typically have secured his qualification by this stage of the season, even if he subsequently chose not to participate, as he did in each of the past two years. The Serbian needed a deep run in Basel to strengthen his position and avoid having to rely entirely on the Paris Masters to secure qualification.
However, following this defeat, Djokovic will now have to do precisely that. Given the current landscape of the live rankings, he will need a deep run in Paris to put himself in a strong position to qualify. At the time of writing, Djokovic sits 11th in the Race to Turin, with Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz and Ben Shelton already having secured their places.

After the United States Grand Prix, Isack Hadjar was critical of Red Bull's execution, as was Max Verstappen. Both drivers were unhappy with the strategy and, on top of that, were hampered by two problems that have been troubling the Formula 1 team for a long time: technical issues with the team radio and problematic starts.
"I have poor radio, I don't even know what's happening. And whenever I drop the clutch, it's going into a nightmare," Hadjar said in the media pen on Sunday night. "If we fix these two issues, we might already be on the podium. It seems like we can do the hardest things, but we can't do the silly things."
When asked about those comments during the media day in Mexico, Hadjar acknowledged that he is perfectly entitled to speak his mind about the team – which is, after all, exactly what Red Bull wants: drivers with character and opinions of their own – but that he perhaps could have worded certain things a little differently.
"I didn't really think," he said. "We need to be honest with ourselves as well, but there's stuff that I should have kept for myself. I know that."
Since then, Red Bull has **** ysed the race weekend in Texas in detail which revealed that the strategy could indeed have been better, something Hadjar explained further in Mexico.

The fallout from Kylian Mbappé's comments about a meme depicting Mao Zedong has extended into football video games in China, while the creator of the original montage has spoken about the reaction. On the pitch, Madrid continued preparing for Sunday's visit to Racing Santander, with Arda Güler and Fede Valverde following individual programs. Carlo Ancelotti also announced his latest Brazil squad, calling up Vinícius Júnior and Endrick but leaving Éder Militão out.
The commercial consequences of Mbappé's remarks now include measures affecting Chinese versions of FC Online and Konami's eFootball-related ******* les. Reports citing announcements on the games' local channels describe the removal of promotional material and restrictions on content featuring the Madrid forward.
FC Online said it had begun removing Mbappé-related content from external channels and would implement further changes through an update. The Chinese versions of the Konami ******* les also announced measures covering promotion of the player and the characters or cards ******* ociated with him. The reported action concerns the Chinese editions, rather than a worldwide removal from the franchises.
The measures follow the termination of Mbappé's partnerships with Dongpeng, Mengniu and Milkground, alongside China Media Group's suspension of LaLiga broadcasts and other programming involving the player.
Real Madrid's apology has not ended scrutiny of the club's handling of the controversy. Chinese state-linked outlets and official platforms have questioned the timing of its response and called for measures beyond a public statement. Mbappé apologized on October 27, with Madrid issuing its own apology on October 28.

We always need to remember that actors are not the characters they portray, no matter how well they sell the role. They're just acting, after all, not showing their true colors. So finding out an actor that normally plays villains is actually a decent person shouldn't be surprising.
And no, it isn't surprising, but it is incredibly funny. There may be something to someone needing to be nice and empathic enough to understand how evil someone can be. These are the actors that are often typecasted as villains, while being incredibly decent persons themselves.

AA Milne's first Pooh book was published a century ago in October 1926. Generations of children loved it, but its inspiration, the author's own son, told the BBC that he took to "running away when people bring up the subject".
"Pooh, promise you won't forget about me, ever. Not even when I'm a hundred." This is the plaintive cry made by Christopher Robin to his teddy bear, Winnie-the-Pooh, in the final chapter of The House in Pooh Corner.
British novelist and playwright AA Milne needn't have worried. The first Winnie-the-Book was published 100 years ago in October 1926, and introduced a cast of characters modelled on the author's son and the soft toys he played with: lovably dim Pooh Bear, nervy Piglet, hyperactive Tigger, pessimistic Eeyore. Far from being forgotten, in the century since then the characters have taken on a life far beyond the parameters of their idyllic home, the Hundred Acre Wood.
BBC Radio 4, Desert Island Discs: Christopher Milne, 13/11/1976
From 1966, they became the subject of animated and live-action Disney films, in what is now one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time. Pooh Bear has even courted controversy in Poland for being "inappropriate", sparked memes mocking the Chinese president Xi Jinping, and prompted tongue-in-cheek pop-culture theories in which the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood have been "diagnosed" with different psychological conditions.

Luciano Spalletti said that Juventus players need to look at themselves after Gleison Bremer criticised his teammates for not showing enough character in Sunday's 3-0 Serie A defeat against Lazio, but says that he will be doing the same of himself: 'I need to ask myself questions and find the answers'.
The tension is palpable in Juventus circles following Sunday's 3-0 defeat at home against Lazio, which has left the Bianconeri eight points off the league leaders after just seven matches. They are currently worse off in terms of points than they were at the same stage of the 2025-26 season, just before Igor Tudor was dismissed from his position as head coach.

It was a miserable evening for Juventus supporters, some of whom turned on each other and began fighting in the stands. They were heavily criticised in Monday morning's newspapers and defender Bremer also chastised his teammates, claiming 'I can't carry everyone'.
"It is true, the coach gives indications, but we are the ones who need to put it into action on the field," said the Juventus defender after full-time on Sunday.

Reading Women fought back from 3-1 down at half-time to claim a thrilling 5-3 victory over Chesham United at The Meadow on Sunday.
Chesham made a flying start, with Holly Fitzgerald and Ruby Slade scoring within two minutes of each other to put the hosts 2-0 ahead. Alice Curr pulled one back for the Royals, but United restored their two-goal advantage before the break when Henrietta Cunnison headed home from a corner to make it 3-1 at the break.
The first half was made even worse after an injury to Leah Why, last weekend's hat-trick hero, who hobbled off with ****** istance from two members of the Reading coaching team before being taken to hospital for further tests.
Reading bounced back with a determined second half, however. Bethan Poole struck first to give the Royals renewed vigour before Nat Cowell scored twice to complete the turnaround and put Reading in front, before Ellie Luscombe opened her account for the season and added a fifth goal, capping off an impressive turnaround and putting the result beyond doubt.
In the most autumnal of conditions, with torrential rain falling throughout the afternoon, the Royals displayed grit, tenacity and strength of character, fighting back to secure their second consecutive away league win of the season.

WEST LAFAYETTE — You can call Purdue basketball's 87-55 exhibition victory over Ball State on Sunday a soft opening.
Rehearsals for the regular season continue, and roles remain up for grabs on a remade roster. The vibe around the 11 Boilermakers who shared relatively equal minutes, though, remains one of anticipation for what lies ahead.
You may need to give this new cast some time to come together. Those players – some character actors vying to become stars, some understudies stepping into the spotlight for the first time – like where this is headed.
They cannot offer the **** urance which comes with returning Final Four starters, roles chiseled in stone and championship expectations set as an afterthought. What was on display Sunday, though, was a new and different energy – one with unrealized upside.
"I feel that's what makes this team good and makes this team different, is the balance we have between all our guards and our bigs," redshirt freshman guard Antione West Jr. said. "Everybody brings something. There's no weak points or anything we lack in our guards, so it just brings a sense of balance. I think that's our identity."

Guernsey FC manager Tony Vance praised the character of his side as they came from a goal down to beat Little Common 2-1.
The victory was the Green Lions' fourth consecutive Southern Combination Premier Division win and moved them up to fifth in the table.
Sam Ellis had given Little Common a first-minute lead as he beat the offside trap and finished past Seb Sheppard.
But Fin du Port equalised three minutes later when he lobbed the goalkeeper and Archie Drillot got proved to be the winner seven minutes into the second half as he reacted quickest to Will Fazakerley's saved shot.
"It was good character from the boys - to go in [at half-time] 1-1 was probably a bit harsh on us and fortunate for them because we had all the pressure, we were pushing them back and we had some good quality at times, but the end product wasn't quite there," Vance told BBC Radio Guernsey.

I will carry on our Mulholland drives and our Starbucks outings. I'm grateful and lucky to have had you as my daddy. My Guck. Rest easy, bubby. Life will never be the same without you and your poorly timed jokes that I inherited from you. Love you endlessly (no more fighting about that anymore, I win)."

Adriana La Cerva in The Sopranos. Ginger McKenna in Casino. Sofía Vergara's Griselda Blanco. For decades, the mob wife has been the archetypal anti-heroine – all fur, animal print and knee-high boots. Now Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined the ranks.
Shedding the gothic lace and American drawl of Morticia Addams in Netflix's Wednesday, Swansea-born Zeta-Jones is using her real Welsh accent on screen for the first time in Prime Video's revenge thriller Kill Jackie. She plays Jackie Price, an ex-cocaine dealer whose quiet life unravels when one routine decision ends with an elite squad of ******* assins hired to kill her.
Unsurprisingly, the series is already drawing comparisons with the BBC's Killing Eve. The series shares a director (Damon Thomas), a dark, twisted humour and puts a fierce, quirky woman at its centre. But the strongest link may be the wardrobe.
Just as Villanelle's Molly Goddard tulle dress became a character in its own right, Jackie's wardrobe – built on an enticing mix of British designers, vintage and second-hand – is every bit as scene-stealing, and serves as inspiration for how we'll want to dress this autumn.

Red carpet fashion does not always stop at an extraordinary dress. Some stars have taken transformation much further, using prosthetics, sculptural makeup and elaborate accessories to turn themselves into fantastical characters. From fairy inspired beauty to feline features and even a dramatic peacock transformation, these looks blurred the boundaries between fashion, makeup and performance art. Ariana Grande, Karol G, Doja Cat, Rita Ora and Heidi Klum have all experimented with this theatrical approach. Rather than simply complementing their outfits, the unusual additions became essential parts of the overall illusion.
At the 2024 Met Gala, Ariana Grande embraced an ethereal aesthetic in a custom Loewe creation. The look combined an iridescent corseted bodice with a flowing pleated skirt, but some of its most memorable details appeared around her eyes. Delicate three dimensional wings extended from her face, adding a fairy like quality that worked naturally with the event's Garden of Time theme.
Karol G also entered a fantasy world at the same Met Gala. Wearing a crystal covered Marc Jacobs gown, the Colombian singer added prosthetic elf ears that transformed the glamorous ensemble into something more otherworldly. A sparkling headpiece and green jewels enhanced the effect, creating an interpretation that seemed to belong in an enchanted forest.
Doja Cat took transformation even further at the 2023 Met Gala, where the evening celebrated the work of Karl Lagerfeld. She referenced Lagerfeld's famous cat Choupette with a custom Oscar de la Renta gown featuring a hood with cat ears and a feathered train. Prosthetic facial features completed the transformation, giving her a feline appearance while preserving the elegance expected from a major fashion event.
Rita Ora demonstrated how prosthetics could create drama from an otherwise restrained silhouette at the 2024 Fashion Awards in London. She wore a backless black Primark gown that revealed an extraordinary prosthetic structure running down her back. The sculpted spikes resembled a reptilian or prehistoric spine, turning the exposed skin itself into part of the fashion statement.

Mike Tindall takes a surprisingly formal approach when addressing his mother-in-law, Princess Anne. The former professional rugby player is married to the royal's daughter, Zara Tindall, and while most husbands refer to their mothers-in-law by their first name, he opts for a more traditional greeting.
When the 47-year-old appeared on ITV's Good Morning Britain in 2024 with fellow former rugby pro James Haskell to chat about their podcast, The Good, The Bad & The Rugby, he explained about previously featured Princess Anne and the Prince and Princess of Wales as guests.

Certain celebrities don't just enter a room — they redefine it with an unforgettable presence. Whether it's a mesmerizing gaze, a striking smile, or a powerful stature, these stars have built iconic careers around characteristics that make them truly one-of-a-kind. We're pulling back the curtain to celebrate the bold, the beautiful, and the unique figures who became famous for more than just talent.

Barbra Streisand's inimitable profile and expressive eyes have become nearly as legendary as her storied voice. Throughout her decades-spanning career, she leveraged her distinctive look, refusing pressures to change and instead turning her uniqueness into a signature of elegance and confidence. Despite being told early in her career to alter her appearance, she resisted undergoing a rhinoplasty in part because of the risk it posed to her singing voice, as reported by TODAY.

Kate Bosworth's different-colored eyes have made her stand out in every role she takes on. This rare feature gives her an instantly recognizable appearance and adds an enchanting element to her on-screen presence. Barry Keoghan has built a career by choosing characters that are rarely easy to understand. The Irish actor can appear vulnerable in one film and deeply unsettling in the next, often bringing an unpredictable quality to his performances. His journey into acting was equally unconventional, beginning far from the traditional routes into the entertainment industry. A difficult childhood in Dublin shaped his early years, while an unexpected opportunity introduced him to acting. Since then, Keoghan has developed into an internationally recognized performer with roles spanning independent dramas, major blockbusters and psychological thrillers.
Born in Dublin, Keoghan experienced considerable instability while growing up. His mother struggled with drug addiction and died when he was young, and he and his brother spent several years in foster care before being raised largely by their grandmother and aunt. Despite his later success, Keoghan has spoken warmly about returning home and immediately slipping back into ordinary family life, joking that celebrity status does not excuse him from making his bed or cleaning up after himself.
His entrance into acting came almost by chance. As a teenager, Keoghan noticed a casting advertisement in a local shop window for the Irish crime film Between the Canals. He responded despite having little professional experience and eventually secured a role. Television work followed, including the Irish drama Love/Hate, helping him develop his craft and attract greater attention.
His international profile grew dramatically in 2017. Keoghan appeared in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk as George Mills, a young civilian caught up in the evacuation of Allied soldiers from France. That same year, he delivered a very different performance opposite Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman in Yorgos Lanthimos's The Killing of a Sacred Deer. As the mysterious Martin, Keoghan demonstrated the unnerving screen presence that would become one of his greatest strengths.
Rather than remaining within one genre, he continued moving between dramatically different projects. He entered the Marvel universe as Druig in Eternals, appeared in The Green Knight and gained major acclaim for Martin McDonagh's The Banshees of Inisherin. His performance as Dominic Kearney earned him a BAFTA and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

James Trevena may be playing a romantic leading man for Hallmark, but his real-life love story started long before he put on Sir Griffin de Beauford's armor. His longtime partner is Ivana Baquero, the Spanish actress who played Ofelia in Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth.
The 40-year-old stars opposite Julie Gonzalo in A Knight to Remember, which premiered Oct. 3. His relationship with Baquero has lasted more than a decade, according to TV Insider's Swooon.
Trevena accompanied Baquero to the Oct. 1 Los Angeles screening marking Pan's Labyrinth's 20th anniversary, according to Just Jared.
Baquero was 11 when she played the film's young heroine. In a 2014 interview with the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, she recalled drawing on her own experiences and feelings to understand the character at an age when she had little formal technique to rely on.
A year before their relationship began, Baquero had told the university that she was hesitant about committing to television. A series would require a longer stretch of her time than a film, complicating her other projects and law studies. She had chosen distance learning because acting regularly took her away from home.

Yes! Bouquet had an important cameo in season 6 on ****** and the City as the ex-wife of Mikhail Baryshnikov's character, Aleksandr Petrovsky. In the scene, she offers Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw a cigarette as they sit in a Paris restaurant chatting about her ex? ("I thought you might be one of those Americans who didn't smoke. And I would be… how do you say… Guilty of killing you over lunch?")

Bestselling British author and scandal-plagued Conservative politician Jeffrey Archer has died aged 86.
Archer died "suddenly and peacefully" at his home yesterday, a day before the global release of his final novel, "Adam and Eve," publisher HarperCollins said.
The new book out today, like his bestselling novel "Kane and Abel," follows a pair of biblically named characters born on the same day to different social classes. "Kane and Abel", released in 1979, remains one of the best-selling novels in the world, with an estimated 34 million copies sold globally.
Kate Elton, HarperCollins UK CEO and Archer's editor, said: "It has been one of the great privileges of my publishing life to have been Jeffrey Archer's editor. He was the master storyteller and an editor's dream - phenomenally hard-working, utterly committed to completing draft after draft to get every word as perfect as possible, and a true champion of the 'team' nature of great publishing."
Archer sold more than 300 million books in his five-decade writing career, including "Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less", the William Warwick series, and the Clifton Chronicles, which started with 2011's "Only Time Will Tell" and spanned seven novels up until 2016's "This Was A Man".
