If you're a fan of offense and the forward pass, it was hard to leave Kinnick last Saturday and not feel pretty good. The same can be said for those that weren't able to make it in person but have spent the last several days re-watching every throw from QB Jeremy Hecklinski.
The former Wake Forest transfer looked as good as perhaps any Iowa QB has looked at an open practice in the 25+ years we've had head coach Kirk Ferentz in Iowa City. Pair that with the genuine buzz going around with UT-Rio Grande Valley transfer WR Tony Diaz, the emergence of Furman transfer WR Evan James and the return of 2025's leading receiver TE DJ Vonnahme and this passing attack looks poised to be a legitimate threat for the first time in several years.
That's all good news.
Unless you're Kirk Ferentz. Not that KF doesn't want the offense to be good or for the Hawkeyes to be a genuine threat in the passing game. The issue for the head man is that Iowa has been operating in a full on QB battle since the departure of Mark Gronowski.
If you aren't at practice on a regular basis and have just last Saturday to go on, that battle seems over. OVER. Hecklinski was sensational and Hank Brown looked even worse than he did in his spot duty a season ago (as a quick refresher, he finished 2025 completing 52% of his passes with one TD and one INT, but in his one game with meaningful snaps he went 5 of 13 passing for only 48 yards with one INT, no TDs and one massive missed screen pass). It was clear to anyone with eyes that Hecklinski should be the guy.

On August 13, Aveanna Healthcare (NASDAQ:AVAH) held its second-quarter earnings call, and the tone was different from prior quarters spent explaining away a caregiver shortage. Revenue climbed 13.7% year over year to roughly $670 million, and every one of the company's three divisions grew. But the headline moment came when CEO Jeffrey Shaner announced that California's 2027 budget will finally include a meaningful pediatric private duty nursing rate increase, effective January 1, 2027, closing out an advocacy push that took four years and now touches all 32 of Aveanna's private duty states.
Aveanna's core strategy for the past several years has been aligning caregiver capacity with the payers willing to pay for it, and the numbers on the call suggest that bet is paying off. Home health and hospice revenue rose 14.8% year over year, private duty services grew 14.0%, and medical solutions added 9.4%, with adjusted EBITDA up 8% to $95.4 million. On the government side, Aveanna landed seven state rate enhancements by the second quarter and expects more once state budget processes wrap up in the third quarter, with California standing as the biggest prize of all. On the payer side, private duty services now has 37 preferred payer agreements after adding three in the quarter, and those agreements cover 64% of the division's managed care volume, up from 60% in the first quarter. Home health has already hit its full-year goal of 50 preferred payers, with episodic admissions running at 81% of the mix and episodic volume growth of 18.5%.
Management also pointed to CMS's proposed home health rule, published July 1, and its finalized hospice rule, published August 6, as supportive of stable industry rates. Layered on top is the Family First Homecare acquisition, closed in early June and on track to finish integrating by late in the fourth quarter, plus guidance raised to more than $2.68 billion in revenue and more than $365 million in adjusted EBITDA for the year.
Not every figure on the call moved in the company's favor. Private duty services revenue per hour rose just 1.7% to $44.62, while the segment's cost of revenue per hour jumped 7.8% to $31.74, and the spread per hour landed at $12.88 as caregiver wage increases continue working their way through the business. Management also noted that the year-ago quarter in that same segment included about $9 million in nonrecurring favorable items, which makes the current growth rate a harder comparison than it first appears. Much of the good news still depends on government timing that Aveanna does not control: the California rate increase is pending final details from the Medi-Cal department, and additional state wins hinge on budget cycles still playing out. The Family First Homecare deal was funded entirely out of cash on hand, and its integration is not expected to finish until late in the fourth quarter, so the returns on that spending have not fully shown up yet.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's reported UK return drew a sharp five-word verdict: "I don't believe they can." The ******* ss of Sussex and the Duke were said to be moving back with Archie and Lilibet for an extended stay.
However, a PR expert claimed winning over Britain would be difficult. Meghan and Harry have not personally confirmed the reports. The BBC reportedly spoke to a Sussex spokesperson, who confirmed the move.
According to a News24 report, PR strategist Sharon Williams addressed the alleged return to the UK. The report said The Sun claimed the Sussexes would move by the end of August. It also said they would bring Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five.
When asked how they could improve their image, Williams answered, "I don't believe they can." She added, "Unless they stay right out of the public eye."
Meanwhile, Williams cited "too many false starts" as one reason for the cold forecast. She also pointed to what she called their "apparent abandonment" of the UK and duty. The founder of The Taurus Marketer said, "The British like loyalty."

It did not take long for Kieffer Moore to underline once again his importance to Wrexham's hopes of success.
Less than three minutes into the new Championship campaign, the Wales forward was wheeling away to celebrate his first goal of 2026-27.
Even after Rubin Colwill's punishing Cardiff City equaliser denied Wrexham the Welsh derby bragging rights in the last moments of Monday's game, it was hard to shift the smile of a striker who knows the importance of a fast start in front of goal.
Moore's early goal had left former Wales international Nathan Blake purring on punditry duty and manager Phil Parkinson praising his "brilliant" leading of the line.
So far, so good – and similar to the impact from a key role last term.

San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. pulled double duty on Tuesday night against the New York Mets.
New York's starting pitcher Zac Thornton threw only one pitch to Tatis Jr. in the top of the first inning to begin the game. The Padres outfielder launched it 452 ft. to left center, giving San Diego the early 1-0 lead.
Tatis Jr. wasn't done.
In the bottom of the second, the Mets had loaded the bases. Francisco Alvarez, Christopher Morel, and A.J. Ewing drew walks while Luis Torrens grounded into a fielder's choice, which saw Alvarez thrown out at home, but kept the bases loaded.
New York's star shortstop Francisco Lindor came to the plate. He launched a 91 mph sinker to right field, a hit that looked destined for the outfield seats.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Michigan Sen. Elissa Slotkin asked Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Tuesday to confirm he won't send U.S. troops to polling places during November's midterm elections, as Democrats have raised concerns that the Trump administration could use the military to interfere with the vote.
"I'd ask you to confirm a simple statement: the Department of Defense will not send Federal troops to the polls or to seize election materials of any kind," Slotkin wrote to Hegseth and to Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in letters Tuesday.
The Pentagon said in an email that it will respond directly to Slotkin, as it does with all congressional correspondence. The Joint Chiefs did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Slotkin told The **** ociated Press that Trump has been laying the groundwork to claim the midterms were stolen. She noted that Trump contemplated using the military to seize voting machines after his loss in 2020 and has deployed the National Guard to cities against the wishes of Democratic leaders. He also deployed active duty Marines to Los Angeles during his immigration crackdown in 2025.
"He's very clearly laying the breadcrumbs to be able to say the day after the election that he didn't really lose the House or he didn't really lose the Senate," Slotkin said.

Back to league business! Following the international break, FC Bayern Women are back in FLYERALARM Women's Bundesliga action this weekend with the rearranged fixture away to bottom-of-the-table 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on Saturday 25 February. Kick-off at the Karl-Liebknecht Stadion is at 13:00 CET. From the state of play to the team news, our preview has all the info.
The match against Postdam was supposed to take place at the start of February, but a frozen pitch led to the game being postponed at short notice. After an international break of almost two and a half weeks, head coach Alexander Straus has had just two days to prepare his side for the meeting with the cellar dwellers. Nevertheless, Straus' charges travel to Brandenburg with momentum after the 2-1 victory over fellow **** le challengers Eintracht Frankfurt in the opening match of the second half of the season, their sixth straight win in the league.
Turbine Potsdam's record currently reads nine defeats and one draw. Having finished fourth last term and narrowly missed out on qualification for the Champions League, they face the threat of relegation to the second tier this year for the first time since 1994. Just before the original date for the meeting with Bayern, interim coach Sven Weigang stepped down, with previous **** istant coach Dirk Heinrichs taking charge of the team for the coming weeks. Their first two fixtures of the year have both been called off, meaning this is Potsdam's first competitive game since early December.
These two sides have come up against each other 44 times in the Women's Bundesliga, making it one of the most-played fixtures in the league. The stats are very close, with 19 wins for FCB, 18 for Potsdam and seven draws. The Brandenburg outfit haven't beaten Bayern since 2016, though, and last managed a draw in December 2021.
Along with long-term absentees Giulia Gwinn (cruciate ligament tear) and Jovana **** janović (muscle strain), Strauss is without the services of Sydney Lohmann, who returned home from international duty early due to a muscular problem. Goalkeeper Laura Benkarth will also not travel to Potsdam because of illness.

Jeff Brohm enters his fourth year as the Louisville head coach with his fourth new quarterback to lead his offense. Brohm has batted above .500 so far with his additions at quarterback, but he will be going out on more of a limb this season by bringing in Lincoln Kienholz from Ohio State. Kienholz is unproven, as he has not been a starter and has had very limited time on the field compared to the other players Brohm has brought in. But the talent is undeniable, and Brohm has had plenty of success developing players in the past.
Kienholz was a highly-rated quarterback coming out of high school, though he was known more for his athleticism than for his ability as a thrower. He is essentially one of the best athletes to ever come out of the state of South Dakota, and he could probably suit up for Pat Kelsey in a pinch. His running ability is the factor in his game that will really test Brohm's abilities as an offensive mastermind.
During the spring, Linc (I'm really going to make this happen) looked the part throwing the ball to all areas of the field while also being decisive when he needed to run. It was immediately obvious that he is a high-level athlete with great burst on his first step. He has also made it clear during interviews that he likes to be a tough runner who likes to take hits. I think Brohm will lean into that, which is the opposite of what we saw with Tyler Shough, who was an above-average runner.
Depth at quarterback is a clear concern with no option who has taken a snap at this level. Davin Wydner looked outstanding in the spring game after holding his own throughout spring practice. But he was very average at West Georgia last season after not seeing the field as a walk-on at Ole Miss. Wydner does have great size and should be an option as a short-yardage quarterback. I don't know that he's shown enough to be a real option to lead the team if Kienholz is out for an extended period of time.
Briggs Cherry will hopefully see the field in mop-up duty at times this year. He rocketed up the recruiting rankings once he pledged to the Cards, and he looked very good for a true freshman in the spring. Cherry isn't a runner, but he moves well in the pocket and can get down the field to pick up a first down in a pinch. Where Cherry has looked his best is throwing the ball down the seams and other deeper intermediate throws. He also utilized the flats and tight ends very well in spring practice. It has been a long time since Brohm developed a freshman quarterback, but I think Cherry has the tools to be a good one for him.

Aug 18 (Reuters) - Einride AB said on Tuesday it plans to deploy 500 Tesla trucks across its North American operations over the next two years, in what would be the largest rollout of heavy-duty electric vehicles to date.
The Sweden-based freight technology company said the deployment, beginning in September 2026, would support customers such as Amazon across freight corridors in California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois and Georgia, tripling its electric truck fleet.
• The rollout, which will be financed through third-party solutions, would be completed in phases through 2028.
• Einride said its AI-based monitoring system has logged more than 19 million electric miles globally in seven years of commercial operations, offering electric and autonomous freight services.
• The deployment supports Einride's efforts to convert about $800 million in potential long-term annual recurring revenue into active freight capacity, it added.

It was, of course, inevitable that Test cricket's return to this parched England summer would bring with it the welcoming relief of rain. Seeking an end to a long dry spell? Well, scheduling a first men's international red-ball fixture for seven sun-soaked weeks has done the trick with an altogether spottier forecast for Headingley.
That drought has taken with it a coach and a captain, the dead-heading that felt inevitable after a barren winter postponed from spring to summer to bring about a regime change of curious timing. Already, one might suggest, a series has been squandered; the risk now for England is not letting another slip as they look to germinate and bed in a crop that it is hoped can be made to flourish with a little more careful nurturing.
A new-look England taken on Pakistan in the first Test at Headingley (PA)
Back to tend the garden in his own backyard is one of Yorkshire's own – though that would have been true had England landed on the other side of a choice of flawed options. It could be said, though, that Joe Root's perennial status as his side's man for a crisis has counted in his favour as he is tossed an unenviable duty once more. Having got the nod ahead of Harry Brook, Root has spoken well in his limited media dealings since being reappointed Test captain of learning from the mistakes and missteps of his first stint – both those of his own and from figures above him, who saddled their skipper with duties that reached beyond the remit of an already-challenging role during the Covid pandemic particularly.

Well, it didn't figure that a $12.5 billion sale of the Los Angeles Lakers would go off without a hitch. However, the problem doesn't stem from the megabucks portion of the business move.
On Monday it was revealed the Buss family was going to sell its 17.8% of the team, too, to Bob Iger and Jared Kushner. The reports said four of the six Busses had to approve it and that seemed to be the way to push Jeanie Buss out of her position of ownership and the team's governor.
Not so fast, says the longtime NBA exec.
"No sale of the JAB Trust's 17.8% ownership interest in the Los Angeles Lakers, Inc. can be effectuated without approval by the current co-trustees, i.e., Jeanie, Janie and Joey Buss. Pursuant to the JAB Trust and the attached Court Order, the co-trustees are bound to vote the Los Angeles Lakers, Inc. shares to ensure that the minimum 15% ownership requirement is maintained in order to ensure that Jeanie Buss may remain Controlling Owner," her lawyer Adam Streisand says in a letter obtained by CNBC.
"Any attempt by the co-trustees to do otherwise, and any attempt to aid or abet the co-trustees as such, would constitute a breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty and be in contempt of court," he says.

After almost four decades, the execution of James Duckett brought closure for two families who believe they both lost young girls to the same killer.
The 68-year-old was executed by lethal injection July 28 for the rape and murder of 11-year-old Teresa McAbee while on duty as a cop for the Mascotte Police Department.
McAbee's family attended his execution at the Florida State Prison in Raiford.
They were joined by family and friends of 14-year-old Jeanifer Weldon. Authorities believe she also was killed by Duckett four months after he murdered McAbee.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Kyler Murray led a drive that ended in a field goal in his first game action since being named Minnesota's starting quarterback, New York's Jaxson Dart threw for a touchdown after passing a concussion test and the Vikings beat the Giants 13-10 in each team's preseason opener on Saturday.
Murray completed two of his three passes for 10 yards as coach Kevin O'Connell played his first-team offense — minus top receiver Justin Jefferson — for just one series. J.J. McCarthy, the 10th pick in the 2024 draft who has been relegated to backup duty, struggled in his first possession before settling in to finish 4 of 7 for 34 yards.
In John Harbaugh's first time on the sideline as Giants coach, Dart was sacked twice on six drop-backs, the second time getting crushed by Vikings safety Jay Ward. Dart was escorted to the blue medical tent to be evaluated for a concussion, then returned two snaps later to complete a 15-yard TD pass to rookie Malachi Fields on the second-year QB's final play of the game.
Dart was 3 of 4 for 26 yards.

MKS Inc. (NASDAQ:MKSI) held its second-quarter earnings call on August 6, and the numbers described one of the company's strongest quarters in years. Revenue jumped 28% year-over-year to $1.25 billion while profit grew three times faster than sales. Yet on that same call, the company's own finance chief admitted growth is starting to cost something. That tension, blazing revenue growth paired with a quiet margin warning, defines where this AI-linked semiconductor supplier stands heading into the back half of the year.
Management described demand accelerating across the entire business. Semiconductor revenue climbed 28% year-over-year to $554 million, up from 13% growth just one quarter earlier, as NAND upgrade cycles and advanced logic investment pick up steam. Electronics and Packaging revenue jumped 44% to $381 million, powered by what executives called the strongest chemistry equipment demand the company has ever seen, tied directly to AI server buildouts. Specialty Industrial revenue rose 14% to $313 million on datacom and defense strength.
To keep pace, MKS is doubling capacity at its Guangzhou chemistry equipment factory, expected online in the third quarter of 2027, while its new Malaysia supercenter has been sized to handle industry-wide wafer fab equipment spending of $200 billion to $250 billion. That growth is reaching the bottom line too: non-GAAP earnings per share hit $3.30, up 86% year-over-year, as operating margin expanded 480 basis points to 25.6%. Free cash flow reached $188 million, part of which funded a $100 million voluntary debt prepayment in August 2026 that pulled leverage down a full turn to 3 times EBITDA.
Not every part of the story is as clean. CFO Ram Mayampurath acknowledged the equipment sales strategy is a "headwind temporarily to the gross margin," since equipment carries lower margins than MKS's proprietary chemistry and the company is absorbing facility ramp costs at the same time. Gross margin came in at 47.6% for the quarter, but that figure included a full percentage point of one-time tariff and duty refund benefits, meaning the underlying number was softer.
Guidance for the third quarter puts gross margin near 47%, essentially flat even as revenue climbs further, a sign the mix pressure isn't going away soon. Management also flagged that working capital and capital spending will keep rising through the rest of the year, adding another call on cash even as the company tries to keep deleveraging.

Prince William has reportedly been giving his eldest son, Prince George, something he did not have during his own childhood: a more stable and grounded upbringing.
The Prince of Wales and Kate Middleton are said to be determined to provide George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis with a healthy and secure childhood away from some of the pressures William experienced growing up in the Royal Family. The report comes as 13-year-old George prepares to embark on a new chapter of his education at Eton College.
Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, have reportedly been giving their eldest child, Prince George, a stable childhood, which the Prince of Wales allegedly never had. Joshua Rom, a royal commentator and expert, wrote in an article for The Royal Observer.
"As Prince George prepares to start his senior school journey at Eton College, much attention is going to shift onto the Wales children." According to the expert, "Prince George represents duty, stability and the future."
The royal commentator also expressed, "We are seeing him grow quickly, becoming more confident." The expert added, "Adventurous and involved with his parents as he does so."

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the signing of Ousmane Diomande on a four-year deal.
The Ivory Coast international arrives at the City Ground from Portuguse side Sporting with Forest paying a fixed fee of €40 million (approx £34.1 million), with no add-ons, for the player's registration. Diomande has now signed a deal running until 2030, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year.
Diomande was on duty with Ivory Coast at the 2026 World Cup this summer, where he featured in just one match, against Curaçao. The defender did not play any pre-season games for Sporting, although he was named on the bench for the opening match of the Primeira Liga, against Estrela da Amadora last weekend.
The centre-back took his first steps in football at FC OSA, before moving to the youth setup at Midtjylland. In 2022/23, he was loaned to CD Mafra and, in January of that season, made the move to the Alvalade club, who paid €14.5 million for his services.
"I am very happy to be here," Diomande said after signing for Forest.

Whether he's stepping out at Paris Fashion Week or sending fans into a frenzy over an off-duty airport look, BTS's Kim Taehyung has quietly become one of fashion's most influential dressers. It's only fitting, then, that Champion is the latest brand to tap into his cultural appeal.
Launching today, Taehyung leads Champion's new True Champion campaign, appearing alongside Romeo Beckham, Sofi Tukker, Kyle Kuzma, Danna Paola, Megan Keller, Bella Sims, and Jaalen Best.
Instead of placing him in a traditional sports setting, Champion leans into the everyday wardrobe that has made the idol a style favorite. Think: oversize varsity jackets layered over quarter-zips, relaxed sweatpants, vintage-inspired rugby knits, and retro sneakers, all photographed inside warm, lived-in interiors scattered with cassette tapes, vinyl records, and headphones.
Champion
It's a subtle shift for the American heritage label. While Champion built its reputation on activewear, the new campaign feels just as much about everyday personal style as performance, with Taehyung serving as an obvious bridge between the two.

Pre-Season was swallowed up by the Club World Cup last summer. This summer it has been disrupted by the World Cup. The desire to continuously invent football matches for eyeballs and revenue will always risk the quality of the game. The players who did not go to the World Cup or those who exited early will all have a decent pre-season. The players who went deep into the tournament not only have a shortened pre-season but will be back on international duty before long. The argument that the players are rich is one I will always find utterly unconvincing. What is noticeable is the decline in the quality of football and footballers in general. Managers desperately trying to reduce the game to automatisms in order to cover-up the dearth of unique individual quality in the game. Stats creating an Americanisation of the beautiful game. I do not know Maradona, Zidane and R9's stats. They're practically irrelevant to the beauty of the game. That aspect of the game is increasingly greyed out and becoming near impossible to access. I digress.. This is a mixed pre-season for Mourinho. He has had a chance to take a look at some of the youngsters and also the likes of Camavinga, Trent, Fede and Arda Guler. What he has not had the chance to do it have a look at a potential starting XI for the season with all his best players available. There are two friendlies remaining before La Liga kicks off for the 2026/27 season and Mourinho will still be intuiting his best XI for the season by then. The names are easy but the balance.. well, that's an entirely different matter altogether.
A true baller..Turkish Delight? The kid is awesome and has surpassed the expectations of many by merely still being at the club given every challenge he has faced every single season since his arrival. Arda Güler is a unique profile in the Real Madrid squad. He is a purely technical player while also having tactical awareness to make up for his physical short-comings.
Arda's story is one of perseverance. It is difficult enough to make it at Real Madrid without major obstacles but Arda has had to overcome injuries and lack of trust as well as rife competition in the squad. He has seemingly come out the other side, looking increasingly like the fabulous footballer we imagined upon his arrival in 2024. Mourinho will have to find a way to use Arda without upsetting the proverbial apple cart.
Thiago was seemingly in the window shop until apparently Jose Mourinho insisted that he remain at the club.

Baseball is, quite clearly, a business.
The most recent example came Saturday, Aug. 8, with the Milwaukee Brewers designating Bryse Wilson for ******* ignment less than 24 hours after the right-hander threw three innings of one-hit baseball behind Shane Drohan in an 8-6 loss to the Minnesota Twins at American Family Field.
A nine-year veteran who rejoined the Brewers for his second tour of duty on July 10, Wilson posted a 2.63 ERA over six appearances (13 ⅔ innings) after making one appearance for the Philadelphia Phillies and two for the Chicago Cubs previously.
"Tough to send out a guy like Bryse after he really did his job multiple times, and has done his job here before and has been part of our success," manager Pat Murphy said. "He's a pro, though. He's a pro. He threw so few pitches yesterday that he could have come back in a day, but every day becomes critical.
"That's what it is."

WNBA All-Star Weekend is nearly two weeks in the rearview, but the virality of the StudBudz's 72-hour Twitch stream knows no bounds. Last year, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert was caught dancing to "Knuck If You Buck," and Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve jokingly blamed AI for her viral dancing clip.
This year, ESPN's Holly Rowe produced the WNBA All-Star clip that will endure.
Rowe was on her usual sideline duty for the 2026 WNBA All-Star Game at the United Center in Chicago on July 25. The Emmy-winning reporter went viral during the game for a walk-and-talk interview gone wrong with Olivia Miles. After the game, she went viral again for dancing to Sheck Wes' "Mo Bamba" in the club.
"You know who was on the stream, though? Your girl, Holly!" Indiana Fever All-Star Aliyah Boston said the latest episode of the Post Moves with Candace Parker & Aliyah Boston podcast. "Big Holly! Big Holly!"
Boston mimicked Rowe's dance moves, while Parker hit the stank face in approval.

Model Bella Hadid has become the face of the pre-fall 2026 activewear campaign of the company Alo. The partnership was announced this week and received backlash from people who support both Palestinians and Israel.
According to Elle magazine, the partnership was unveiled on Tuesday. Hadid's move to the Los Angeles wellness label is consistent with her off-duty style. Hadid announced the news on Instagram and directed followers to the magazine and a campaign video.
The photoshoot took place in Los Angeles and was made by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Mimi Cuttrell also styled the campaign. The campaign includes both close portraits and city and nature backdrops. This is a reunion of Hadid and Alo, since the model participated in the company's fall 2025 campaign.
According to Hadid, she has realized the importance of making room for herself as she got older. She believes that small rituals are an important part of taking care of her body. Summer Nacewicz, the executive vice president of marketing and creative of Alo, stated that Hadid is an example of someone who connects fashion, wellness, and culture and stays true to herself.
Criticism has been expressed on social media regarding Hadid's partnership with a company that works in Israel, considering it performative and inconsistent with her Palestinian heritage and support for Palestinians.

More than 60 million viewers across the U.S. tuned into the 2026 men's World Cup final between Spain and Argentina last month, between Fox and Spanish-language rights holder Telemundo. How many will tune into Netflix's coverage of the 2027 women's World Cup final, as of now, remains arguably the biggest experiment for FIFA and the women's game — and a potential test case for the men.
Fox, the American broadcaster that has held the English-language rights for six editions of the men's and women's tournaments, will be off duty for the first time since 2014. The shift from one of the primary broadcasters in the United States to streaming giant Netflix is a seismic one that has inspired plenty of nerves among women's soccer fans. It also opens up the doors to reimagining the coverage of the sport's biggest moment.
No financials were disclosed when the deal was announced in 2024, though last week Bloomberg News reported that Netflix paid around $200 million for the two editions of the tournament. FIFA's decision to split up the men's and women's tournaments' media rights allowed the women's tournament to establish and develop its own commercial value. Fox shelled out $485 million for the 2026 men's World Cup alone. That price is expected to rise considerably for the next men's tournament. (FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has gone on record saying that the men's tournaments should, in part, remain free to air.)
Netflix has been making some bets of its own on live sports, picking and choosing where to acquire more events, including the MLB Home Run Derby, boxing and NFL holiday games. Netflix hit a high mark for the most-streamed NFL game thanks in part to Beyoncé's halftime show during a game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans on Christmas Day 2024, with the stream peaking at 27 million during halftime.
Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters noted on an earnings call that live events have been key to driving sign-ups. Live programming has driven six out of the top 10 new subscriber sign-up days over the past five years.

"The players that are with us until the day that they aren't with us, it's my duty to do the best for them. I'm happy with his performance and he's working good since he came back from his holiday. At the moment I'm very happy with him."

Sydney Sweeney has spoken out over the devastation caused by the wildfires in her hometown of Spokane, Washington.
According to local authorities, the fires have consumed more than 8,000 acres across Spokane County, with three main blazes destroying more than 700 structures. No deaths or injuries have been reported.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Sydney put a spotlight on the news, emphasising that around 65,000 people have been evacuated from their homes.
"Spokane has always been home to me. It's where I grew up, where my family still lives, and where so many of the people and places that shaped me are," she began. "The devastating fires have changed countless lives in ways that are hard to put into words. Thousands of families have lost their homes, their belongings, and places of business, including members of my own family. This devastation is something our community has never experienced on this scale."
The Euphoria actress went on to note that she is supporting organisations including Innovia Foundation, SpokAnimal, Second Harvest, and Watch Duty amid the emergency. She also shared a link to Baby2Baby, a nonprofit that provides essentials for families and children.
"Unlike larger cities that often receive an overwhelming amount of national attention and resources, Spokane doesn't have the same spotlight," the 28-year-old declared. "If you're looking for ways to help, these are four organizations I'm supporting that are on the ground right now helping this community that needs us."
