Millions of Americans recently received unwelcome news about their cell phone bills.
In late June, T-Mobile (TMUS) said it was retiring over 1,000 older plans, shifting customers to newer offerings at an added cost of as much as $6 per line per month. And starting in August, AT&T (T) hiked rates on some of its older plans by $10 to $20 and increased a monthly per-line fee by $1.
The changes contributed to a steep 5.9% jump in Americans' wireless bills from July to August alone, according to Consumer Price Index data. It was the largest single-month jump since the Bureau of Labor Statistics began tracking the category nearly three decades ago.
In a twist, last month's rising phone bills may have helped convince the Federal Reserve to implement its first interest rate hike in three years. The steep price jump likely contributed about 10 basis points of August's 0.3% month-over-month rise in core consumer prices, according to Wall Street ******* ysts. The hotter-than-expected jump in this category, which strips out price changes in the particularly volatile food and energy sectors, helped cement expectations for the Fed's 25 basis point hike to benchmark rates last Wednesday.

Americans have paid about $97 billion more for fuel since the Iran war started in late February, roughly $740 extra per household, according to CNN. President Trump says prices will come down after the midterms. The CEO of Chevron just said publicly he does not see how that happens quickly.
Mike Wirth, Chevron's chairman and chief executive, spoke at a University of Texas at Austin energy conference on September 11. He told the audience that the mechanisms that helped absorb the oil supply shock earlier in the conflict have largely been used up, and that prices are more likely to rise than fall over the next few months.
When the U.S.-Iran conflict began, the oil market had several ways to handle the disruption. Countries could release crude from strategic reserves. Commercial inventories could be drawn down. The U.S. eased restrictions on sanctioned crude stored on vessels at sea. Those measures helped limit the initial price spike.
"Those have largely now played out," Wirth said. The energy system no longer has the buffers it had when the war began.
The loss of flexibility became more acute after attacks knocked out a major Saudi crude pipeline that had been bypassing the Strait of Hormuz. That single disruption put an estimated 2.5 million barrels of oil per day in limbo, tightening a market that was already running short on supply.

Tegan Lecheler, founder and director of Mothers & Infant Cash Coalition, told Fox News Digital its support for cash ****** istance has been praised by the right.
Although guaranteed income programs have faced partisan pushback nationwide since gaining national traction in 2018, a growing faction of conservatives is finding common ground with direct cash initiatives centered on mothers and newborns.
According to Tegan Lecheler, national program director for the Mother and Infant Cash Coalition (MICC), the "common-sense" nature of early childhood cash transfers has prompted conservative lawmakers and advocates to reach out to her organization in support.
"I think we're in a really polarized time politically right now," Lecheler told Fox News Digital. "We are not a political organization and want to work to improve families' outcomes. The FOMC began a new interest rate cycle, raising the federal funds rate a quarter point on Sept. 16. Wall Street traders expect at least one more rate increase before the end of 2026.
The federal funds rate. The Fed. The FOMC. No doubt you've heard and read these terms before. But what do they mean? How does this impact your financial life?
The federal funds rate is the interest rate the government sets for one bank to charge another bank for ultra-short-term loans, usually just overnight. It's actually an interest rate range. Banks negotiate a specific rate with each other within that range set by the Federal Reserve.
The current federal funds rate is now 3.75% to 4.00%.

The ******* e Exploration Technologies (NASDAQ: SPCX) IPO was one of the most highly anticipated public offerings in years. Within a few days of going public, ******* eX had a valuation of $2.7 trillion after raising nearly $86 billion in funding.
Then things started going sideways. The stock began falling amid fears that ******* eX is spending too much on artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, and shares still trade below their opening price of $150 as of this writing. At one point, the share price fell enough to wipe out more than $1 trillion from ******* eX's valuation over a one-month span.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Another AI company, Anthropic, could go public as soon as next month. Like ******* eX, it's a highly anticipated IPO. But investors would be wise to take the recent ******* eX sell-off as a warning that buying IPO stocks when they first go public is rarely a good move. History shows it's far better to wait before buying -- here's why.
While there was an initial surge in interest for ******* eX, investors quickly turned their attention to the company's massive AI spending spree. The company's capital expenditures (capex) jumped 308% in the first six months of this year, compared to 2025, reaching $28.5 billion. That's a hefty sum, especially when you consider that ******* eX sales were just $12.5 billion over that same period.

NEW YORK (AP) — Two major news networks were denied access to the White House on Saturday morning, with reporters from CNN and MS NOW both going live to report they'd been barred following a ban imposed by President Donald Trump.
The actions escalated Trump's long-running efforts to restrict news coverage by journalists he finds objectionable, and is the latest test of First Amendment protections in the United States. Trump said Friday he would ban both organizations and also Politico, because of their coverage — which he called "fake news."
CNN issued a statement saying it stood behind its reporters. "We will not be deflected from our duty to hold the government and other public bodies to account," it said. The statement was shown on the air before senior White House reporter Betsy Klein began to report on her ban.
MS NOW also said in a statement that it stands behind its journalists.
"The White House belongs to the American people and the decisions made inside are funded by our tax dollars," the network said in a statement Saturday. "MS NOW intends to take any and all steps necessary to defend our First Amendment rights and the essential role of independent journalism in our democracy."

Hub Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:HUBG) disclosed on September 14 that preliminary, unaudited first-half 2026 revenue was expected to reach $1.7 billion to $1.8 billion, near management's expectations. Yet management anticipated an operating loss before one-time charges. This non-GAAP presentation excludes those charges, but neither the loss nor the exclusions were quantified.
Hub Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:HUBG) identified higher fuel, rail, and drayage costs, excess warehouse capacity, and accounting-review and restatement expenses. The central issue is whether pricing and efficiency improvements can restore profitability on the revenue already moving through the business.
Hub Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:HUBG) began implementing rate increases in the third quarter, after transportation costs had pressured first-half results. Relatively stable intermodal volume trends suggest an existing customer base on which better pricing could improve margins. If increases hold without significant volume losses, revenue could become more profitable without requiring a broad freight recovery.
Hub Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:HUBG) also launched additional efficiency initiatives in the second quarter, including warehouse consolidation and improvements in driver and warehouse-worker productivity. These actions address specific weaknesses: underused ***** e spreads fixed costs across fewer orders, while low productivity raises the cost of each shipment or handling task. Better utilization could reinforce the benefit of higher rates.
Hub Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:HUBG) is also targeting order-to-cash processes, which cover the steps from taking orders through billing and collection. Improvements could reduce administrative friction and accelerate cash collection. That would support liquidity while operational changes take effect, although faster collections alone would not repair an operating loss.

It's hard to overstate how important the Model Y was for Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) overall growth journey. Today, that model alone accounts for more than 90% of Tesla's vehicle sales. The Model Y allowed Tesla to significantly expand its sales base, which, in turn, enabled the company to scale its production facilities to reach economies of scale -- the driving force behind Tesla's 24-quarter streak of consecutive profits.
In short, the Model Y is one of the biggest factors behind Tesla's current $1.1 trillion market capitalization.

Rivian Automotive's (NASDAQ: RIVN) valuation, meanwhile, still hovers just above $20 billion. This valuation gap has many causes. Next month, investors will get the first meaningful update on how Rivian's sales and production capacities are scaling for the R2. Here's exactly what you should be paying attention to.

Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRKA) (NYSE: BRKB) is no artificial intelligence (AI) stock, but it may be closer to one than most casual observers think. The exact percentage is also very broad. Amid the higher electricity demand driven by AI, one could argue that Berkshire Hathaway Energy is an AI company.
However, that does not help average investors, who cannot invest directly in that specific part of Berkshire. Instead, we only have its stock holdings with which to contend, but even when measured by those, the AI exposure is about 31%. Here are the two stocks and their role in Berkshire's portfolio.

WASHINGTON — The talks to end the Iran war had hit a snag.
Vice President JD Vance had flown to Pakistan for negotiations with the Iranians, a sign that the two sides had narrowed their differences and the White House might be poised to announce a breakthrough.
As the marathon April meeting unfolded, though, U.S. negotiators began to worry: It looked like the Iranians were changing the terms of a potential deal. So, during a pause, they phoned Secretary of State Marco Rubio to get a “steer” on what they should do next, an administration official with direct knowledge of the matter said in an interview.
Rubio agreed that they couldn’t accept Iran’s offer, the official said. There would be no deal.
Rubio isn’t the face of the Iran negotiations. He’s kept a discreet public distance as the unpopular war grinds on. Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and the president’s longtime friend and special envoy Steve Witkoff are the main protagonists in the push to end both the Iran and Russia-Ukraine conflicts.

Bitget has published its August 2026 Proof of Reserves report, marking the 45th consecutive monthly disclosure since the program began in December 2022, with a total reserve ratio of 122% for the month. Separately, Bitget's August 2026 Protection Fund valuation report recorded an average monthly value of $382 million, backed by 5,500 BTC held as a separate protection reserve.
Bitget publishes both monthly Proof of Reserves and monthly Protection Fund valuation reports — two separate disclosures providing visibility into different parts of the platform's **** et-protection framework. The August PoR reserve ratio of 122% means Bitget's reported reserves for tracked **** ets exceeded the corresponding user balances included in the snapshot. A full per-asset breakdown is available on Bitget's Proof of Reserves page.
A reserve ratio above 100% reflects the position captured in a particular reporting snapshot and should not be interpreted as a financial audit or a guarantee of future solvency.
The Protection Fund's August valuation ranged from approximately $345.3 million on Aug 1, 2026 to $441.5 million on Aug 27, 2026, with an average monthly valuation of $382 million. Its dollar value fluctuates with Bitcoin's market price because the fund is backed by 5,500 BTC. Bitget established the fund in 2022 with an initial $300 million commitment, and its valuation remained above that level throughout August.

"I am the house now," Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told traders last week, as he defended the administration's increasingly interventionist approach to the bond market. He added that he had "asymmetric information" about what policymakers would do next and dared investors: "bet against me if you want."
On Wednesday, Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh might effectively take the other side of the bet.
It's been a hot American summer. Oil is hot, hovering around $110 a barrel. Bond yields are hot, too: the 10-year Treasury yield has pushed above 5%, around its highest level since 2007. Credit markets are running hot as well: U.S.-dollar debt issuance to finance AI and data-center development reached $308 billion through July. And all that borrowing is competing with U.S. national debt, which crossed $40 trillion less than a month ago. Stocks, despite a rough few days, are still up roughly 11% this year. Inflation, meanwhile, remains above 3%.
Put all that heat together, and the Federal Reserve is staring down a question it hasn't seriously confronted in three years: Is the U.S. economy actually overheating? Markets are betting the Fed thinks the answer is at least "maybe." Traders have priced a quarter-point hike Wednesday with near certainty.
But whether Wednesday amounts to a one-time course correction or the beginning of a new tightening cycle depends on what, exactly, is making the American economy hot. The last time the Fed began raising rates, in March 2022, Jerome Powell's Fed ultimately raised its benchmark rate by 525 basis points over 16 months.
Mohamed El-Erian, Wharton professor of practice and chief economic adviser at Allianz, parsed the current fervor and anxiety into four questions on X Tuesday: whether oil-supply disruptions persist, with China potentially acting as a "swing consumer"; whether Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent intervenes again to influence long-end yields; whether this week's hike proves "one and done" or the beginning of a cycle; and how markets balance AI's enormous promise against its enormous risks.

Adolfson & Peterson has tapped John Herrera, a company veteran who joined when he was a teenager, as its next chief operating officer, according to a Tuesday announcement from the builder.
In his capacity as COO, Herrera will focus on leadership across the Minneapolis-based firm's national operations, per the announcement.
Prior to his appointment, Herrera served as the regional president of AP Mountain States, which includes Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Utah. He will remain based in Colorado during his tenure as COO.
The appointment comes amid a broader executive shuffle at AP that began early last year when the firm tapped Brad Hendrickson as its COO in March 2025. Less than a year later, then-CEO Jeff Hansen announced his retirement, with Hendrickson lined up as successor.

It was a night of devastation in Chatsworth that began with a deadly Metro bus collision and ended with the fiery crash of an NBC4 helicopter covering the news that left two journalists and, on the ground, a bystander dead.
Tuesday's scene was a mixture of confusion and chaos, with first responders fanned out across two catastrophes and television news teams desperately trying to find out whether their journalists were safe. The crashes claimed the lives of five people and left others with various degrees of injury.
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were trying Wednesday to determine exactly what caused the news helicopter, a Eurocopter AS350 B2, to go down.
NTSB Investigator Fabian Salazar said officials are searching through the wreckage, combing through maintenance logbooks, security footage, weather reports and witness interviews, and reviewing the pilot's training to figure out what went wrong.
But the most critical information so far has been audio captured from the helicopter during a live broadcast of reporter Eliana Moreno and pilot George Marciniw's final moments before it crashed.

US stocks fell for a second day in a row on Tuesday as investors braced for the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on Wednesday and monitored the fallout from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's essay on AI safety fears.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) declined 0.8% while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) dropped 0.7%. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) tumbled more than 0.4%.
Oil prices ticked back up, with Brent crude (BZ=F) and WTI crude (CL=F) changing hands at $108 and $105 per barrel, respectively. Prices have remained elevated since Saudi Arabia shuttered its East-West pipeline and the Iranian-backed Houthis launched fresh attacks in the Middle East.
Bond yields have also shot up as investors await the next Fed policy decision. The yield on the 10-year note (^TNX) hovered around 5%. The move follows the key interest rate briefly rising overnight to its highest intraday level since 2007, underscoring concerns about rising borrowing costs, global deficits, and inflation.
The Federal Open Market Committee began its September meeting on Tuesday, with traders overwhelmingly expecting a rate hike. The release of the so-called dot plot, along with Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's press conference, could offer investors clues about the prevailing winds in the Fed's monetary policy.

Last month, Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor predicted that Bitcoin's token price would grow at a 30% compound annual rate over a 10-year period. At the time, the market-leading cryptocurrency was trading at roughly $64,500.
As of this writing, Bitcoin is already up roughly 20% since Saylor made his prediction. Could Saylor's prediction for average annualized returns over the next 30 years really hold up?
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Bitcoin hit an all-time high of roughly $126,200 per token in October 2025. It then began an extended downtrend that took it to a cyclical low of below $58,600 this summer. Even though the cryptocurrency has recently seen some strong bullish momentum, it's still down roughly 39% from its peak. It's possible that current macroeconomic dynamics will help the token continue regaining ground.
With concerns about rising bond yields, oil prices, and inflation recently shaping action across the stock market and weighing heavily on the broader macroeconomic outlook, the stage could be set for Bitcoin to continue coming back into favor with investors in the near term. Crypto bulls have long touted the token's ability to function as a store of value or "digital gold," and an inflationary environment that coincides with record national debt continuing to reach new highs seemingly reflects the kind of dynamics that Bitcoin has been championed as a bulwark against.

During the September 10 episode of Mad Money, a caller inquired about Mad Money host Jim Cramer's confidence that Arista Networks, Inc. (NYSE:ANET) will not go down the same path as Ciena Corporation. He replied:
Okay, so let me just tell you, Arista is up a lot this year. My confidence is with Jayshree Ullall. I think she's amazing and I think it every time the stock has dipped, if you've noticed it. Since her tenure began, you have to buy it, and I'm not backing away from that. I feel the same way I do now, the way I did, oh man, how many years ago when we first met her. She is money, and the company's fantastic.
In its second quarter, the company shattered records by delivering its first-ever $3 billion quarter, reporting $3.036 billion in revenue, a 38% year-over-year and over 12% sequential increase. Management lifted its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to approximately $12.6 billion, representing roughly 40% annual top-line growth. The acceleration is supported by deep integration into cloud architectures, where Arista Networks, Inc. (NYSE:ANET) expects its dedicated AI fabrics revenue to reach at least $3.5 billion in 2026, supported by more than 100 **** ulative Etherlink customers.
Bottom-line performance remains equally strong, with non-GAAP diluted earnings per share reaching $1.02, driven by a 49.9% non-GAAP operating margin and $1.3 billion in non-GAAP quarterly net income. Arista Networks, Inc. (NYSE:ANET) ended the quarter with roughly $13.3 billion in cash and marketable securities, offering substantial liquidity. However, its $9.7 billion of non-cancellable purchase commitments also increase working-capital and inventory risk as the company secures components ahead of expected AI demand.
The company's financial results remain heavily tied to two hyperscale customers. According to its 10-K filings, Microsoft accounted for 26%, and Meta Platforms generated 16% of total revenue in fiscal 2025, bringing combined spending from these two cloud giants to 42%. It leaves Arista Networks, Inc. (NYSE:ANET) vulnerable to sudden capital expenditure adjustments, vendor diversification shifts, or project delays by its core buyers.

The oil crisis is leaking into other parts of the car. Costco, the land of big and cheap, flipped the script and doubled the price of its full-synthetic motor oil and started rationing purchases. As crude pushes toward $100 a barrel, a 10-quart case that cost roughly $30 now runs $57.99, with purchases capped at two units per member per week.
U.S. diesel crossed $6 a gallon for the first time this week, and global oil inventories have drawn down more than 500 million barrels since the U.S.-Iran conflict began. This is affecting the entire crude industrial complex.
Base oil, which is the feedstock for motor oil, comes from the same barrel as gasoline and diesel so when refiners can earn more finishing crude into fuel than into lubricants, lubricant stock gets squeezed first.
The pressure for Costco, however, is more intense: Its signature Kirkland oil carries GM's Dexos1 Gen 3 certification, which requires manufacturers to pay GM separately per product and per unit sold. As a result, and much against its brand ethos, changing your own oil with Kirkland product now costs roughly what an independent shop would charge, thus eroding the DIY savings case entirely.

Macklemore on Wednesday pledged to donate the "entire $1 million" of his net earnings from Ed Sheeran's Loop Tour to Palestinian relief organizations, days after he was dropped from the tour over his pro-Palestinian comments.
He also invited New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who said Macklemore wouldn't be welcome at Gillette Stadium for the tour's scheduled performances at the end of September, to match his donation. Within hours, Kraft released a statement saying Sheeran had already asked him to match his $2 million donation to humanitarian aid in the region.
Their statements come amid a growing controversy following Macklemore's removal that has seen all of Sheeran's supporting acts quit the tour. Sheeran is set to play in Philadelphia this weekend.
Sheeran broke his silence about Macklemore's removal from the tour on Tuesday, saying it wasn't his decision but the promoter's. Macklemore's contract for the tour was with the promoter, Sheeran said.
Here's how the controversy began — and how it continues to unfold.
