The Federal Reserve doesn't set student loan rates directly, but its federal funds rate influences the 10-year Treasury yield (which determines federal loan rates) and the prime rate (which determines private loan rates).
But exactly how the Fed affects your cost of borrowing depends on the type of student loans and interest rate you have.
After the Federal Reserve's September 2026 meeting, it raised interest rates by 25 basis points. See how that might impact the cost of your student loans.
One of the Federal Reserve's main goals is to keep inflation under control. It does this partly by adjusting the federal funds rate — the rate banks charge one another for short-term loans.

Mortgage rates continue to rise as 2026 nears its fourth quarter. What is the outlook for home loan rates in the next five years? Should you wait for mortgage rates to fall significantly before buying or refinancing? Mortgage interest rates are determined by several factors, all of which can give us clues about the future. Let's take a closer look at mortgage rate predictions over the next five years.
Here are the housing market predictions for 2026.
One of the most useful indicators for predicting mortgage rates is the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury note. Mortgage rates and 10-year Treasury yields typically move in the same direction, although mortgage rates are usually higher because lenders factor in additional risks. This difference is known as the spread, and we'll account for it when estimating where mortgage rates could go.
With that in mind, the first step is to look at where economists believe Treasury yields are headed over the next five years. To build a forecast, we'll combine expert economic projections with data compiled using artificial intelligence.

Cadence Design Systems (CDNS) trades at 54.5 times trailing earnings. A multiple that high is a requirement rather than an opinion. The price only works if the business grows into it, and you can work out exactly how much growth it takes. The harder question is whether that calculation deserves your trust here.
What Is Cadence's Price Already ***** uming?
Three things have to be true, and none is a forecast. Each is an ***** umption the price has already made, and each one is worth testing.
First, the market gives Cadence four years to grow into the multiple. Second, the multiple then settles at 28.8 times, where a mature, scaled software franchise usually lands. Third, net margin holds near 24.3%, roughly where Cadence's net margin has run over the past twelve months.
So How Fast Would Cadence Have To Grow?

Caterpillar (CAT) trades around $780. The market puts roughly a two-in-three chance that the stock finishes somewhere between about $525 and about $1,170 a year from now. That is not a forecast of direction. It is the size of the swing a holder is already carrying, and Caterpillar's own record says it is no exaggeration.
Measured from around $780, the floor of that range sits roughly a third below today's price and the ceiling close to half again above it. The extra room on the upside is arithmetic, not optimism. A stock cannot fall below zero and can rise without limit, so the upper end is always the longer one. There is also roughly a one-in-six chance of finishing above the band, and the same chance of finishing below it.
A third of the money in the position can go, and the band's low end is not the worst case. The same market pricing that drop is pricing a larger gain on the other side. The size of your position decides how much of that drop, or that gain, you actually feel.
None of that width is theoretical here. Caterpillar returned 83% over the past twelve months, against about 17% for the S&P 500, and it still trades about 26% below its 52-week high. Both of those belong to the same year. A stock that can do both is the kind an options market prices this wide.
Implied volatility of 39.9% is running level with the 40.0% the stock has actually delivered over the trailing year. The market is quoting the recent past forward rather than charging extra for fear. What could make the year ahead different sits inside the business.

Indian automotive supplier Uno Minda has announced four capacity expansion and consolidation projects across its component businesses, with a combined proposed investment of about Rs14.15bn ($147.5m).
The projects span the company's two-wheeler alloy wheels, aluminium casting, moulding, and interior, exterior parts and sealing systems operations, although details have so far been provided for two of them.
One of the projects concerns a new greenfield aluminium casting plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, after expansion **** e at the company's existing Hosur facility was used up.
This business supplies parts for two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles for both combustion-engine and electric vehicle platforms.
The project is expected to involve an additional investment of Rs5.10bn and increase capacity at the site from about 13,000 metric tonnes to a peak of 30,000 metric tonnes.

PepsiCo (PEP) has gone nowhere for a year, down 1.8% over the past twelve months while the S&P 500 returned 16.6%. At about $135 a share it trades at 17.7 times earnings, against an S&P 500 median of 22.5. A big cash generator priced below the market is what value buyers hunt for, so is this discount impatience or a verdict?
PepsiCo sells snacks and drinks everywhere consumer staples get sold: grocery aisles, convenience and gas stations, and the away-from-home locations it keeps adding. That reach turns into cash: free cash flow over the trailing twelve months was $9.28 billion, a 5.0% yield.
None of the recent numbers look like a business in trouble. Revenue over the trailing twelve months grew 5.6%, and the operating margin is holding at 15.0% against an S&P 500 median of 18.6%. Management says global volumes grew in both foods and beverages in the first half of 2026, the fastest growth in volume since 2022.
Widen the window and the picture changes. PepsiCo's revenue grew 5.6% over the trailing twelve months against an S&P 500 median of 8.3%, and its three-year average is just 2.5% a year. The trailing twelve months ran hotter, but one window is not a pace, and the pace is what the market pays for.
The company lowered prices in the U.S. early in 2026 to get volume moving. Management says salty snacks went from falling volume to rising volume and PepsiCo gained share, but volume in the second quarter of 2026 fell short of what it expected, which it blames on a consumer hurt by higher gas prices and on delays executing the price investment at some customers. None of this is lost on the market: it is pricing a company that grows slowly and has just spent money trying to grow faster. The problem sits in North America, while the international business stayed strong.

Rocket Lab (RKLB) stock has traded between $39.48 and $150.23 over the past 52 weeks. It now sits about 58% below its 52-week high, and anyone who bought twelve months ago is still up about 19%. None of that tells you what you would be buying today. Rocket Lab sells two quite different things, and the one its name points at is the smaller of them.
In Q2 2026 the ****** e Systems segment brought in $189.5 million. Launch Services brought in $44.6 million, down 30% from the previous quarter despite a similar number of launches. Management attributes that drop to accounting rather than lost work, because revenue from those launches is recognized over time and much of it had already been booked.
So Rocket Lab earns most of its revenue building satellites and their parts. Electron flew its 16th mission of 2026 in September. Launch is a real franchise, and it is not where most of the money comes from.
The stock trades at 52 times sales, against 3.1 for the S&P 500, on revenue of about $0.8 billion over the trailing twelve months. At this valuation, investors are largely pricing in future execution on the Neutron medium-lift rocket and the financial impact of the pending Iridium acquisition, rather than current satellite production alone. Management targets delivery to the pad in Q4 2026, and says the window for a launch before the end of 2026 is narrowing.
And you are paying for Iridium, which Rocket Lab has agreed to buy and expects to close in mid-2027. Iridium, a global satellite communications network, serves more than 2.5 million subscribers and delivered over $870 million of revenue in its past year. That is more than Rocket Lab's whole trailing twelve months. Management calls it a relatively slow-growing business that brings profit rather than a hole in the income statement.

Nearly 600 people have died in crashes since 2024 with trucks operated by companies that had never been subjected to a roadside safety inspection.
By John Kelly and Steve Reilly
Published September 17, 2026
A truck operated by Next Level Express Inc. slammed into an SUV parked on the shoulder of the New Jersey Turnpike last December, killing two parents and their daughter on the way home from a family gathering. A second daughter survived.
In the decade before the crash, none of the company's trucks or drivers had been subjected to a single roadside inspection.
It's a pattern repeating hundreds of times a year.

Fast-growing stocks and artificial intelligence (AI) seem to go hand in hand, and there are several examples of stocks growing their revenue at 50%, 100%, or even 200%. But none quite touch how rapidly Nebius (NASDAQ: NBIS) is growing. During its most recent quarter, revenue rose by a jaw-dropping 454% year over year. What's even more impressive is that this growth rate is expected to last through the rest of the year, and 2027's will also be elevated.
It's starting to make a lot of sense that Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is investing in Nebius, and there's still a great buying opportunity here for investors.
Missed Nvidia in 2009? This Rare Signal Is Flashing Again. In 2009, a "Double Down" signal flashed for a little-known chipmaker called Nvidia. For the first time in years, that same "Total Conviction" signal is flashing for a company 1/100th the size of Nvidia. Continue »
Nebius is a neocloud business that provides AI-focused cloud computing power to its clients. Among its biggest clients are Meta Platforms and Microsoft, each of which has signed multi-year deals with Nebius to expand capacity. Both Microsoft and Meta have their own data centers, and Microsoft rents out its capacity to others, so why are they renting from Nebius?
Nebius' deal with Nvidia provides it with leading hardware before others, so it's a way to gain early access to the best computing units. Furthermore, these companies like having a bit of flexibility and not having to build too many data centers, as well as getting their hands on as much computing capacity as quickly as possible.

More than half of consumers — 56% — have left brands that ignored their feedback, according to a survey of 1,500 consumers and 750 digital leaders from Quantum Metric, released earlier this month.
Fewer than 1 in 5 consumers see surveys as an effective way to provide their feedback, and another one-third said they don't feel heard by digital brands at all.
One-quarter of digital leaders have daily access to recent customer feedback, while about half — 52% — have no formal process for acting on the feedback they do collect, the report found.
Gathering data on customer sentiment and behavior without acting on it is a fruitless exercise, but taking action on data is easier said than done.

The news that the giant AI technology provider Anthropic launched Claude for Financial Advisors was received with some skepticism by industry **** ysts, but overall, many wealth management technology providers and consultants shared their excitement and enthusiasm, noting that the company had presented them with something that could, if implemented well, solve many issues with current advisor tech stacks.
"I find it positive that Anthropic has sent these signals to the market and it is good for the industry overall," said longtime **** yst Alois Pirker, who is now the CEO of his own consultancy, Pirker Partners.
"Nonetheless, my sense is that Claude will hit the same problem as Salesforce, getting to the level of specificity that financial advisors need," he said, referring to the behemoth CRM provider and its initial rollout of Salesforce for Financial Services, which reached general availability a decade ago (and later changed its name to Salesforce Financial Services Cloud).
One way in which the technology industry responded to advisors' desire for such specificity was the development of the specialized and popular advisor CRM product Practifi, he said, which is built on top of Salesforce and caters to certain types of firms in need of more customization.

On September 14, Coda Octopus Group (NASDAQ:CODA) reported third-quarter fiscal 2026 results that quietly crossed a threshold the company had never reached in its public history: positive retained earnings, after years of operating at an accumulated deficit. Revenue rose 9.2% year over year to $7.7 million, and pretax income climbed 16% to $1.8 million, even as instability in the Middle East knocked down the marine technology unit that has long been the company's calling card. The reason the quarter held together anyway comes down to where the growth actually showed up.
Defense engineering revenue jumped 68.3% to $2.7 million during the quarter, and the momentum did not look like a one-time ****** p. Sustainment spares orders have already topped $2.4 million year to date, and one prime contractor customer's new multiyear repair and sustainment award has since fed additional subcontract work back to Coda Octopus. On the newer end of the business, the company's US defense engineering team is now supporting several prime contractors building rugged, deployable RF electronic warfare systems for unmanned platforms, helicopters, airborne pods, and ground vehicles.
The DAVID diving system added its own proof points. Coda Octopus has delivered 24 DAVID systems to the US Navy to date, including 16 untethered units earlier in the year, and the Navy's authorization for use ****** sment on that untethered system was completed during the year, clearing it for full operational deployment. Since the quarter closed, the Navy has placed about $1.4 million in additional orders covering tethered systems and DAVID Flex adoption, including four units bought specifically for diving school and academy training. A European navy that already bought in is also expected to firm up a procurement roadmap later this year, while the new Nano sonar is being tested by subsea robotics OEMs and research groups for next-generation autonomous platforms. All of that arrived alongside $31.7 million in cash, no debt, and a balance sheet management says can fund acquisitions.
None of that offsets what happened in marine technology, the segment that still generates the largest share of revenue. Marine tech sales fell 15.2% to $3.4 million as customer activity slowed across the Middle East and parts of Asia, and hardware revenue specifically dropped 17.8% to $2.3 million. Improved rental utilization, with rental revenue up 131.1%, cushioned the blow but did not reverse it, and management has tied the weakness directly to geopolitical conditions it cannot control.

FC Barcelona have begun the process of renewing defender Gerard Martín's contract, per multiple reports. The 24-year-old footballer has risen through the ranks and become an important part of manager Hansi Flick's set-up.
Barça are said to be looking to tie him up for longer, with a bigger release clause and a higher salary. There is reportedly no hurry on either side, as he has a contract until 2028. There is a sense of optimism surrounding the negotations, as the team is happy with his performances and the player wants to stay.
Barça reportedly see him continuing to be a key part of the squad and possibly even improving as time goes on. A Barcelona native, Martín was a product of UE Cornellà's academy before going to Barcelona's B team. Reports say he's happy to stay with his hometown club.
So far, there have been no concrete negotiations or even a set date for a meeting on the matter. All that has been reported are preliminary conversations.
A left-back by training, he has broken through as a center-back under Flick. With Ronald Araujo on loan to Liverpool FC, Barça are set to use Martín often this season alongside Pau Cubarsí. There was talk of a potential center-back signing, though none came. Andreas Christensen has split duties as the other center-back to start this season. Barça also has Eric Garcia, though he often plays as a full-back.

Hits were at a premium with both sides combining for seven, and the Dodgers made the most of theirs, out-homering the Reds two-to-one and relying on Tarik Skubal's best performance as a Dodger to secure a 4-1 win. While Reds starter Nick Lodolo was responsible for all four runs in his seven innings, it doesn't necessarily reflect just how effectively he held down this potent Dodgers lineup for large periods of the game—especially dealing with such an ungrateful task.
It didn't take more than a couple of hitters to find out, or at least get a glimpse of the type of performance Skubal was about to bring to the mound. Facing Cincinnati's most dangerous hitter, Elly De La Cruz, Skubal was down 3-0 in the count following two bad misses, remembering that De La Cruz took him deep last week. The Dodgers' starter not only got back in the count and punched out De La Cruz, but almost as impressively, he did so in a manner of simply imposing his will that few starting pitchers can even hope to accomplish. Skubal threw three straight heaters, none of them particularly dotted, two up and one down, almost as if indicating that today he'd do as he pleased and the Reds were mere spectators to it.
That initial at-bat against De La Cruz was also indicative of the approach that Skubal would carry into this game. Whether due to a lack of feel for a particular off-speed pitch or, more likely, from an adjustment after seeing the Reds' swings against the four-seamer, Skubal went to that pitch far more often than he normally does—throwing it 44 percent of the time across seven scoreless innings, needing just 90 pitches to do so.
The first and only time the Reds managed to put multiple players on base against Skubal came in the fifth inning, when Juan Brito singled, and J.J. Bleday walked, later moving to second and third on a wild pitch. In a nine-pitch at-bat, Hector Rodríguez would go down on a four-seam fastball, this one up and well outside the zone. In fact, each of Skubal's first seven punchouts came on heaters.
Offensively, the Dodgers made the most of their rare hits count, securing just three in seven innings against a dialed-in Nick Lodolo. Unfortunately for the Reds starter, both of the hits he allowed were home runs, first a solo shot to Kyle Tucker in the second and, a couple of innings later, a two-run bomb to Teoscar Hernández.

The Cleveland Browns were unable to overcome the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week One of the 2026-27 NFL season, 34-10.
Cleveland's disastrous performance on Sunday afternoon fell on the hands of the offense, as the unit failed to consistently move the ball downfield. This unfortunately forced the defense into brutal field position for most of the contest, which led to Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence's incredible four-touchdown performance.
During his opening remarks to the media following the loss, head coach Todd Monken told reporters that the Browns "didn't execute on the road" the way they expected to this past weekend.
"We didn't execute on the road the way we expected," Monken claimed. "Without really seeing the tape, the obvious issues came in operation, and a couple delay of games and false starts that we thought we cleaned up, but obviously we didn't."
One of the most pressing issues for the Browns' offense on Sunday was the simple line-of-scrimmage operations that Monken stressed for most of the offseason.

It was difficult for Alex Bowman to hold back his emotions after Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway. The driver of the No. 48 turned in his best performance of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season, placing runner-up to Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Larson.
The strong run at Gateway meant a little more to Bowman. Just prior to Sunday's race, Bowman revealed that his dog, Finn, who he called his best friend, sadly passed away. As the Arizona native reflected on his top-five performance at Gateway, he fought back tears in what has been an emotional weekend.
One day prior to Sunday's Enjoy Illinois 300 at WWT Raceway, Bowman took to social media to announce the heartbreaking passing of his dog.
"I don't know how to say this out loud, but last night I lost my best friend. You only get a dog like Finn once in a lifetime. He was just the best," he wrote.
As Bowman spoke to USA Network's Dave Burns, he tried to keep himself together as he expressed appreciation for his No. 48 HMS team for helping him through the devastating loss.

On August 10, Red Violet Inc. (NASDAQ:RDVT) reported second-quarter 2026 results for the period ended June 30 that showed the company converting growth into profit at an accelerating clip. Revenue rose 23% to $26.7 million, and net income nearly doubled to $5 million. For a company built on selling identity intelligence to businesses, watching net margin move from 12% to 19% says that growth is not costing more to produce.
Gross profit climbed 29% to $20.2 million, pushing gross margin to 76% from 72%, while adjusted EBITDA jumped 48% to $11.2 million as its margin widened to 42% from 35%. Adjusted net income rose 58% to $7.2 million. Cash generation told the same story: operating cash flow increased 42% to a record $10.6 million for the quarter. None of that came from adding customers who barely move the needle. Red Violet signed on 447 new IDI customers in the quarter, a company record, ending with 10,869 customers on the platform.
FOREWARN, its product built for real estate agents, picked up 25,493 new users to reach 443,173, and 660 REALTOR ****** ociations across the country are now under contract to use it. The company also closed an underwritten public offering in August that sold 1,916,667 shares, including 250,000 shares from the underwriters' full exercise of their option, generating net proceeds of about $109.0 million. Between the funds already on hand and this new raise, Red Violet says it holds over $160 million in cash and carries no debt, money earmarked for working capital and possible acquisitions.
CEO Derek Dubner called it what he described as "the strongest pipeline of strategic initiatives" in the company's history. The company also repurchased 74,500 shares by June 30, paying $41.87 per share on average, and had $15.5 million left on its buyback authorization.
The August offering that padded Red Violet's cash balance also added 1,916,667 new shares to the count, arriving in the same year that per-share profit is climbing fastest. Diluted earnings came in a penny below basic at $0.34, and adjusted diluted earnings landed at $0.50 versus $0.51 on a basic basis, a gap new shares will only widen going forward. There is also a timing tension worth sitting with: Red Violet spent part of the quarter buying back its own stock at an average of $41.87 a share, then turned around weeks later and sold new shares to the public.

After their late loss to Sassuolo last night, it is becoming increasingly difficult to see Juventus finishing inside the top four at the end of this season, according to pundit Roberto Pavanello.
The Bianconeri have been one of the top teams in the world for several decades and have done well to maintain that status, but since they last won the league ******* le in 2020, they have been far from achieving that feat again.
One thing Juventus have consistently managed to do is secure Champions League football, but last season they failed to achieve that. Many believed their failure was linked to the quality of their squad and the fact that Luciano Spalletti did not start the season as their manager.
He has now been given a new deal for another season and was their coach during pre-season, yet Juventus cannot beat Sassuolo in their fourth league game of the season.
It is certainly too early for the team to be struggling as much as it is at the moment, but their poor start has already created doubts about what they can achieve this season.

The Chicago White Sox are 76-73 entering play on Monday, September 14. They're just 0.5 games up on the Cleveland Guardians and fittingly begin a series against their division rivals in Cleveland to get the week started.
If they struggle during this series, not only could the White Sox lose their AL Central lead, but they might even drop out of the postseason field entirely. This is a pivotal series, and the end of the season is still very important to Chicago.
One AL scout told ESPN's Jesse Rogers that the White Sox can be a "sleeper" postseason team if two pitchers can perform at a high level.
"If the White Sox can get just a little starting pitching, they could still make some noise," an AL scout told Rogers. "They have a bullpen. That's always a need in the playoffs. And they can hit home runs. They just haven't lately. I like them as a sleeper, **** uming [Davis] Martin or [Sean] Burke are good."

Sep. 14—The term sabermetrics was first coined by Bill James in 1980. It took quite a bit longer, however, for the idea to catch on with the baseball populace, but eventually acronyms like WAR, VORP and UZR caught on as a way to ****** yze the sport.
Analytics are equally as important these days in college basketball. It's why you hear Illinois coach Brad Underwood constantly referencing his team's adjusted offensive efficiency and offensive rebounding rate. Paid services like Synergy give coaching staffs an ****** ytical breakdown of their team to the finest detail.
Publicly available sites like , and , however, have broadened the usage and acceptance of a different way to follow and break down the sport. (KenPom and CBBAnalytics do have a subscription piece but are drastically cheaper than Synergy).
It's through those sites Illinois fans could track one of the most efficient offenses in the modern era during the 2025-26 season. The Illini eventually finished second in adjusted offensive efficiency behind Purdue last season. That particular metric was helped by the Illini not turning the ball over (eighth in turnover rate) and dominating the offensive glass (third in offensive rebounding rate).
One particular metric Illinois tracks is shot volume.

Kishan will be keen to play because T20Is remain the only format in which he is currently a regular for India.
The three-match series will give India's Asian Games-bound players valuable preparation against a strong Afghanistan side.
