It did not take long for Kieffer Moore to underline once again his importance to Wrexham's hopes of success.
Less than three minutes into the new Championship campaign, the Wales forward was wheeling away to celebrate his first goal of 2026-27.
Even after Rubin Colwill's punishing Cardiff City equaliser denied Wrexham the Welsh derby bragging rights in the last moments of Monday's game, it was hard to shift the smile of a striker who knows the importance of a fast start in front of goal.
Moore's early goal had left former Wales international Nathan Blake purring on punditry duty and manager Phil Parkinson praising his "brilliant" leading of the line.
So far, so good – and similar to the impact from a key role last term.

Lewis O'Brien says Wrexham's 1-1 draw with Cardiff City "hurts" as his side failed to see out victory in the Welsh capital.
Phil Parkinson's side appeared destined to kick-start their 2026-27 Championship campaign with a win over the Bluebirds after Kieffer Moore's third-minute strike.
But substitute Rubin Colwill struck a free-kick beyond debutant Anthony Patterson in the eighth minute of added time to earn Brian Barry-Murphy's men a share of the spoils at Cardiff City Stadium.
"It hurts to put that much effort into a game and draw like that. It's a really tough one to take," said O'Brien.
"I think we started well, we started fast. Obviously got the goal early. I think we played some good stuff.

Phil Parkinson bemoaned his team's lack of ruthlessness – and the amount of stoppage time at the end of the game – after a 98th-minute equaliser denied Wrexham a Welsh derby victory over Cardiff City.
Parkinson's side were on course to begin the new Championship campaign with a hard-fought win after Kieffer Moore's third-minute goal at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Wrexham missed chances to extend their lead – and twice hit the woodwork – on a night when they carried greater threat than their hosts only to be denied a win when Rubin Colwill smashed in a free-kick in the last act of the game.
"We've had chances to kill the game off. We haven't taken them, the keeper's made saves, but we haven't really made him make a top-class save," Parkinson said.
"We knew we could give Cardiff problems and time and time again we did. Really in the cold light of day, the game should have been out of sight, but it wasn't."

Brian Barry-Murphy toasted substitute Rubin Colwill's impact in Cardiff City's dramatic Welsh derby draw with Wrexham - after admitting he should not have come on as early as he did.
The Bluebirds seemed destined for defeat in their opening game of the new Championship season after Kieffer Moore's early goal at the Cardiff City Stadium.
On a night when Wrexham missed chances to put the game to bed, Cardiff huffed and puffed, but looked like lacking the quality to find an equaliser until Colwill lashed home a free-kick in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
"I thought he had a big impact on a big game," Barry-Murphy said.
