Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell did not think the hit that concussed quarterback Kyler Murray during Sunday's season opener was a dirty or malicious play by Green Bay Packers defender Javon Bullard.
The hit was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness, and Murray is now in concussion protocol, but O'Connell was not willing to blame anyone for the resulting injury given Murray's slide at the end of the play.
"No. It was a violent, physical play," O'Connell said. "As fast as those things happen out there, it would be one thing it was a head-first slide and a clear declaration, but I don't put any fault on anybody there."
Murray slid late and sideways, and he ended up getting sandwiched between Bullard and Lukas Van Ness as he went to the ground.

A multimillion-dollar, oceanfront Malibu home said to be owned by Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage has been threatened by a sizable sinkhole, with officials now cautioning that conditions in the area are "likely to worsen" in the coming days.

The declaration, adopted on the first day of the BRICS leaders' annual summit in New Delhi, comes at a time when U.S. and Iran have ‌resumed ****** -for-tat strikes ⁠against each other, after a pause in fighting for much of August.
The BRICS bloc includes ⁠both Iran and Washington-ally United Arab Emirates, which was expected to make clinching a joint statement consensus a particularly challenging task for host New Delhi.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Malaysian former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was charged Thursday with failing to declare his ****** ets, making him the nation's third leader to face criminal charges after leaving office.
Ismail, 66, pleaded not guilty to a charge under the anti-graft law that alleged he failed to provide a complete declaration of ****** ets following a notice from the anti-corruption agency in January 2025. The charge sheet lists large amounts of cash in Malaysian and foreign currencies, as well as gold and silver.
If convicted, Ismail faces up to five years' imprisonment and a fine of up to 100,000 ringgit ($24,810).
Ismail, the country's ninth leader, unexpectedly became prime minister without a general election after emerging as a consensus figure during a turbulent political period. He was the shortest-serving leader, leading for only 15 months from August 2021 to November 2022.

LONDON, Aug 26 (Reuters) - The outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola in Uganda is over ‌but it is not under control in neighbouring Democratic ‌Republic of Congo, a World Health Organization official told a briefing on Wednesday.
The all-clear for Uganda follows a declaration on July 28 from the Ugandan government that it was free of the disease, which caused 20 cases and two deaths in the country.
The WHO monitored the ‌situation until this week ⁠to ensure that no chains of transmission had been missed.
But Dr Marie Roseline Belizaire, director of ⁠emergency preparedness for the WHO African region, told a WHO regional meeting that cases in Democratic Republic of Congo continued to rise despite some progress. When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back in 2020, their feelings about the British media were central to that decision. The couple had just launched legal action against three major newspaper groups and had described in one statement "a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences." In their announcement about leaving, they devoted a lengthy and detailed explanation to how and why they were breaking free from the press rota system that covers working royals.
In the intervening six years, their strength of feeling has prevailed. "We all know what the British press can be like and it was destroying my mental health. I was like, this is toxic," Harry told James Corden in 2021. Meghan claimed in her 2022 interview with The Cut magazine that she would never be able to do school runs without being photographed in the UK. Harry's memoir Spare cemented the media as the real villain in his life. And in his most recent court case against the Mail newspapers, which he lost, Harry took to the stand and said, "They have made my wife's life an absolute misery, my Lord."
Yet, in the years since they stepped back, some things have changed when it comes to Harry and Meghan's relationship with the press. There was a declaration in 2022 that unnamed "sources" would no longer speak for them which eventually fell, without fanfare, by the wayside. After basing their PR team largely in the U.S., they hired a UK-based PR in 2024 and went on to take on their current spokesperson who is UK-based.
Indeed, when news broke that Harry and Meghan were returning to live in Britain, it was two UK newspapers (including tabloid The Sun) along with UK-based journalists for People Magazine and one Australian outlet who had the scoop. When Harry visited the UK recently, a range of British and international outlets were given access to his events. There is now a line of communication between the Sussexes' team and many sections of the British media. It's a pragmatic approach, but not one Harry and Meghan have always taken.
What is notable, however, is that when the couple return to the UK, they will not be coming back to the life that they left. They are not working royals (something that has been made very clear from the royal end) and as such will be able to keep away from the royal rota. If they make public appearances, they will have the choice over who covers them and what they can access. There will be no expectation to release images of themselves or their children for milestone moments. The couple has worked through the UK press regulator to ask media for privacy around their home and their children's school.

It's preseason week two for the Chicago Bears and the Cincinnati Bengals!
When these two teams last met in the regular season, the Bears won in a wild 47- 42 game featuring an incredible Caleb Williams-to-Colston Loveland touchdown. The stakes won't be quite as high tonight, so let's hope they get in and out with no significant injuries.
Both teams won their respective preseason openers last week, with the Bears sitting most starters and the Bengals playing most of theirs. But this week, with the two teams practicing together on Thursday, the Bengals announced they'll sit most of their starters, but the Bears made no declaration.
And based on the pregame chatter, it appears the Bears will play some starters. Last year, Caleb Williams played in the first two series of preseason game number two against the Bills, and he was 6 of 10 for 107 yards and a TD pass.
For today's game, Chicago's QB2 Tyson Bagent is out with a hamstring issue, which means Case Keenum should get some reps after Williams, and Miller Moss should get a bunch of work, which could pay dividends if he's looking for a practice squad gig in 2026.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Instead of adding new roses, President Donald Trump's White House Rose Garden is growing statues.
Trump put statues of some of America's founders in the garden just off the Oval Office after he replaced its plush lawn with a white stone patio, turning the historic outdoor **** e into a look-alike of the one at his Mar-a-Lago home and private club in Palm Beach, Florida.
At least one statue was a gift. Others are on loan from people who wish to remain anonymous.
The latest addition, a bronze depiction of a seated Thomas Jefferson signing the Declaration of Independence, was a gift from George Lundeen, a sculptor from Loveland, Colorado. It joins statues already displayed there of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton and Ben Franklin. A fifth sculpture named "Freedom's Charge" is also on the patio.
The statues are part of Trump's sweeping series of White House renovations, from his gilded makeover of the Oval Office to the ballroom and helipad that the Republican president is having built on the south grounds. These projects fit into Trump's broader plan to leave his mark on downtown Washington through other construction projects, including a statue garden on federal land near the National Mall.

Hall of Fame defensive back and Colorado coach Deion Sanders has had plenty of recent distractions arising from court dockets.
This week, a Nebraska lawsuit regarding his "Prime" logo came to light — nearly 19 months after it was filed.
The first word of it surfaced on Tony Farmer's Twitter page. He posted the original complaint. Unless it was all one ***** of a coincidence, others started reporting on the case — without crediting Farmer for finding it.
One of those outlets is The Athletic, which possibly has taken an "eff that guy" approach to Farmer given his relentless focus on the Dianna Russini situation. A new article posted by Matt Moret explains that Deion was questioned under oath in late July in the claim filed by Alan Tipp, who contends that he designed the "Prime" logo in 2011 and was never fully and fairly compensated for it. Tipp also alleges that Sanders and other defendants fraudulently induced Tipp to relinquish any rights to his work with false promises.
In a court declaration filed on Friday, Sanders claims he used the logos before he was working with Tipp.

Las Vegas Raiders top pick Fernando Mendoza may not exactly have inspired confidence in his coaches on Thursday in the team's 22-20 win in the preseason over the Houston Texans.

On Wednesday, WDRB's Eric Crawford reported that many power conference commissioners voiced their opinions on the court rulings allowing the class of 2022 athletes another year of eligibility and the opportunity to transfer.
Among the commissioners, the SEC's Greg Sankey was firm in his stance on the matter. The commissioners of the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, and Pac-12 also all joined together against the court case in Kentucky.
"Their joint declaration was among documents filed Tuesday in Jefferson Circuit Court, where Judge Brian Edwards is considering a request from 13 athletes seeking another season of NCAA eligibility," Crawford wrote.
The biggest concern among the commissioners is that the return of the athletes would create "significant roster instability" for the schools and across the sports. This stance by these conference leaders greatly affects Kentucky because Kentucky's 5-for-5target, Mark Mitchell, is in this group of athletes fighting for another year and the ability to transfer.
In a nutshell, Sankey is doing his best to prevent Mitchell from transferring to Kentucky.

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: It's preseason!
We are back! Sort of. The Eagles' preseason opener was hardly an inspiring return to watching the Eagles. I am not interested in using a preseason game featuring almost no established starters to make sweeping declarations about Sean Mannion. The Eagles have repeatedly demonstrated that they are happy to sacrifice preseason entertainment to protect important players and conceal the more meaningful parts of the playbook. Whether you agree with that approach or not, this organization does not treat these games as rehearsals for its actual offense.
There were still some early indications of Mannion's influence, particularly in the running game. As part of the run-game data we are tracking for our Patreon this season, I charted six Outside Zone runs and three Duo runs. That is not a large enough sample to declare that the Eagles have transformed their offensive identity, but the emphasis was noticeable. The structure of the running game was more interesting than the results, especially when you add in more under center runs.
The other important piece of context is that Baltimore's defense was not nearly as vanilla as the Eagles' offense. Jesse Minter called several creative pressures and tested the communication and protection rules of an inexperienced offensive line. By comparison, the Eagles kept everything extremely basic.
The opening clip summarizes much of the first-team offense. The Eagles used Grant Calcaterra and Eli Stowers together, but neither currently looks capable of giving them the blocking they would need from a legitimate two-tight-end package. Calcaterra is fortunate not to be penalized here, while Stowers' usage throughout the game was strange. We repeatedly asked a player drafted primarily for his receiving ability to perform difficult ****** ignments as an attached blocker.

Long before Dambulla, there was a December morning in 2006 that revealed something about Kohli that statistics never could. He was 18, playing for Delhi against Karnataka in a Ranji Trophy match at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He was unbeaten on 40 overnight when his father, Prem Kohli, died suddenly. Kohli returned to the ground the next morning. He scored 90. It was not just an innings. It was an early declaration of character.

Two years later, he was leading India at the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia. India won the tournament. Kohli scored 235 runs in six innings at an average of 47.

He had a modest start to his international career during the Sri Lanka tour. In the fourth ODI of that 2008 series, Kohli made 54, his first international half-century. A year later came his first hundred: 107 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata.
By 2011, Kohli was no longer a prospect. He was part of India's World Cup-winning side. He scored a century against Bangladesh in India's opening game and later walked into the **** hede dressing room during the final when India were 31 for 2.

He made 35. Not the sort of number that usually survives in a career built on hundreds. His 35 helped India recover alongside Gautam Gambhir, before MS Dhoni's 91 finished the job against Sri Lanka.

India won the World Cup. Kohli was just 22.

Kanter seems to be going through with his plans to declare for the WNBA Draft and get selected, or exhaust all legal measures until he gets a shot, or the WNBA bans trans athletes from competing.
With the WNBA openly stating it won't give in to efforts to sow division by bad-faith actors, Kanter continues to push the idea of playing in the W.
Kanter took to X after the Atlanta Dream's OT loss to the Indiana Fever on Sunday, saying that he intends to make Reese the first player he dunks on.
"Sis! Once I go No. 1 pick in the 2027 WNBA Draft, the first player I'm dunking on is Angel Reese. She's the Paul George of the WNBA. Just lean into the podcast already."

Nick Reiner has reiterated his demand for access to his family's trust fund in a Friday declaration, obtained and reviewed by TheWrap. The document argues that a portion of the fund became "due and payable" to Reiner upon turning 30 years old and that he hadn't been informed by a prior trustee that the sum was owed to him.
Reiner is charged with the murder of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and producer Michele Reiner, who were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood, Calif. residence Dec. 14. Reiner has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In his new filing, Reiner argues that he did not give "consent to any Trustee of my Trust to withhold, defer or retain" his distribution that unlocked at the age of 30, estimated at the value of $558,000.
In a response objecting to Reiner's petition, also obtained and reviewed by TheWrap, the defense argues that Paul Kanin, a former successor trustee, cannot act against the new trustee, Jodie Pais Montgomery, because he no longer controls the trust's ***** ets. The document also argues that Reiner's allegations of misconduct mischaracterize "ordinary, necessary features of trust administration and succession."
"Nick's sense of urgency is real, but it did not arise in a vacuum," argues the objection. "It arises from the deaths of his parents, the very settlors of the Trust at issue, and Nick is presently accused of causing those deaths. While Nick is presumed innocent of that accusation (and nothing in this Response and Objection should be read to suggest otherwise), no one, not this Court, nor the parties, knows how the criminal proceedings against Nick will ultimately resolve. A trustee administering a trust under that uncertainty is bound by the same fiduciary obligations as any trustee."

With joint practices against the New Orleans Saints finally arriving Thursday and preparations underway for Saturday's preseason opener, the Jacksonville Jaguars released their first look at the pecking order, releasing the first (unofficial) depth chart of the 2026 season on Tuesday. While the first depth chart of the year should never be treated as a final declaration of who will start in Week 1, it does provide an interesting snapshot of where several position battles currently stand.
We break down our top takeaways from the first depth chart, including what it tells us about Jacksonville's offensive line situation and which players may be making a serious push for starting roles.
Perhaps the biggest theme identified throughout the initial depth chart release is fairly straightforward: the players who were already in Jacksonville in 2025 generally remain ahead of the newcomers, for now. That doesn't mean those positions are settled. In fact, some of the most intriguing battles are just beginning. But, it does mean that much of the hoopla surrounding the initial release may not mean as much as has been made about it by the media. That's simply the blunt truth.
One of the more interesting, yet expected, developments comes at running back, where Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez are listed as co-starters to open the offseason. Both players have generated plenty of discussion throughout the offseason, and the Jaguars appear to be keeping the competition open rather than handing the job outright to Tuten, as has been heavily expected throughout the offseason. How the workload eventually gets divided during the preseason, and what happens when the Jaguars face the Saints in joint practices, should provide a much better indication of where this battle may be headed.
Patrick Mekari is still listed ahead of Wyatt Milum at right guard, and that has understandably generated some reaction considering how Milum has performed at guard, while Mekari has been load managed with a back issue. Milum has taken a significant number of snaps at guard throughout the offseason and has looked good there. His work at tackle has been more inconsistent, although I'd describe it as generally fine. Some may look at the depth chart and wonder why Mekari remains ahead despite his limited workload. Personally, I think it's simply too early to draw any major conclusions. The biggest tests of this competition haven't happened yet.
