Von Der Leyen's State of the Union address noted Europe needs to rebalance unfair trade, cut red tape, and strengthen its industrial and strategic autonomy.
But Euratex said it regretted that industrial competitiveness failed to muster as much attention as other issues in the address.
The trade body is calling on the Commission to match the political commitments with an equal sense of urgency on industrial competitiveness, and to place manufacturing sectors, such as textiles, more firmly at the centre of its agenda in the months ahead.
"Europe cannot build a strong defence, lead the green and digital transitions, or protect its social model on a weakening industrial base. Competitiveness is not just one chapter of the European project – it is the foundation all the others are built on; when we get that right, everything else becomes possible.", states Dirk Vantyghem, director general, Euratex.

On Wednesday, Federal Reserve chair Kevin Warsh might effectively take the other side of the bet.
It's been a hot American summer. Oil is hot, hovering around $110 a barrel. Bond yields are hot, too: the 10-year Treasury yield has pushed above 5%, around its highest level since 2007. Credit markets are running hot as well: U.S.-dollar debt issuance to finance AI and data-center development reached $308 billion through July. And all that borrowing is competing with U.S. national debt, which crossed $40 trillion less than a month ago. Stocks, despite a rough few days, are still up roughly 11% this year. Inflation, meanwhile, remains above 3%.
Put all that heat together, and the Federal Reserve is staring down a question it hasn't seriously confronted in three years: Is the U.S. economy actually overheating? Markets are betting the Fed thinks the answer is at least "maybe." Traders have priced a quarter-point hike Wednesday with near certainty.
But whether Wednesday amounts to a one-time course correction or the beginning of a new tightening cycle depends on what, exactly, is making the American economy hot. The last time the Fed began raising rates, in March 2022, Jerome Powell's Fed ultimately raised its benchmark rate by 525 basis points over 16 months.

COLUMBIA FALLS, Montana, Sept 16 (Reuters) - More than 15 years after the U.S. Supreme Court reshaped American politics with its Citizens United campaign finance ruling, Montana voters will decide this November whether to make their state the first in the nation to bar corporations from spending money on elections through a ballot initiative.
It's a test case for a novel legal strategy that sidesteps the 2010 ruling rather than challenging it head-on -- and taps into growing, bipartisan anger over the pervasiveness of so-called dark money in elections.
"Americans are losing the belief that they have any influence over our politics," said Tom Moore, a lawyer with the Center for American Progress left-leaning think tank in Washington and the legal architect of the movement.
With similar, coordinated efforts underway in over 30 states, Montana could help set a critical precedent, experts say, and potentially lead to another showdown at the Supreme Court. Hawaii's legislature passed a similar law earlier this year, inspired by those behind the effort here.

Deshaun Watson played poor football for all four quarters on Sunday, playing a key part in a 34-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was out of rhythm with his playmakers, lacked confidence in his throws, and made a handful of reckless decisions. However, if you asked Watson, it's just par for the course in being an NFL quarterback.

In May, longtime MMA promoter Scott ***** er announced his impending return to the sport. On Monday, it was revealed that his new venture will be known as Ki MMA.
Coker, alongside business partner Peter Levin and Ki MMA matchmaker Rich Chou, shared details of his new promotion at a press conference in New York. Ki MMA is expected to officially launch in the first quarter of 2027 and will hold fights in a ring rather than a cage.
To explain the origin of the new promotion's name, ***** er said:
"The name, to me, had to have a martial arts meaning to it. When I thought about Ki, 'Kiai' is the very first thing that you learn in martial arts — your inner yell. 'Ki' meaning 'inner,' 'Ai' meaning 'yell.' So, it had to be something 'martial arts energy.' The spirit of all life force revolves around Ki. That was the genesis of the name.
"We put it to the test and worked on it, and came out with some great imagery. I'm really happy with the name."

Much like the popular athlete of the week voting, school fans and friends voted on two weekly ballots (individual and team) for The Spirit Award. Only coaches can provide nominations each week, either for their squads or other teams.
Eligible are varsity girls and boys cheerleaders and dancers who exemplify the fruits of the spirit ‒ love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control – while uplifting their squads, the student body and others. Team nominations focus on squads that come together to help each other, work hard, do things right that week, show outstanding virtues when dealing with or serving others, exceed expectations to prepare something special for the school or take part in any other honorable reason they might be acknowledged.

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur says he's open to making changes to an offensive line that had no answers for Minnesota's furious pass rush during another fourth-quarter collapse.
But he noted the importance of settling on a starting five soon to build cohesiveness. Green Bay's offensive line was a major concern throughout training camp, in part because injuries prevented the projected starters from working together very often.
"Whatever we do, we need to make sure that we find continuity as quickly as possible," LaFleur said Monday, a day after the Packers' 39-22 loss to the Vikings. "I think that's part of the problem, is we've had a lot of guys in and out of the lineup. I'm not making excuses. It is what it is. You've got to find a way to get it done.

His official role is described as the Director of Football Development for FSG and Liverpool. Although without a second club for FSG, Marques has been just working for the Reds since he was appointed in 2024.

VIENNA (AP) — Iran on Monday condemned the exclusion of the head of its Atomic Energy Organization from the annual gathering of the United Nations nuclear agency in Vienna saying that it constitutes "a serious breach" of Tehran's rights as a member nation.
"By obstructing our full and effective participation, the denial of access contravenes both the letter and the spirit of the legal framework" governing attendance at meetings of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran's ambassador to the agency, Reza Najafi, told delegates at its general conference.
Najafi criticized Austria, the host country of the IAEA and other U.N. organizations, saying that Vienna's decision not to grant a visa to Mohammad Eslami "violates the host country's obligation."
The Russian ambassador to the U.N. in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, echoed Iran's remarks, saying that Austria had "grossly violated" its obligations as host nation of the IAEA.
Western nations had "unleashed a genuine campaign of visa-related abuses so as to settle scores with countries they deem to be undesirable," he said.

Sweeney doesn't have any reservations about appearing nude, just look at her work in Euphoria, The Voyeurs and The Housemaid just to name a few. She previously made it clear she won't stop appearing nude on screen.

The energy outside Cipriani, in Lower Manhattan, across from the Charging Bull statue on Broadway, seemed conspicuously suspended in a different time. It was as if crossing the threshold into the Financial District sent me back a decade, to the genesis of this current generation's cultural aesthetic—to the lines at VFiles, the SoHo clothing store whose Howard St. storefront once served as epicenter of the nascent fusion of the worlds of streetwear, hip-hop, and high fashion. All of this was because Kai Cenat, the popular Twitch streamer and content creator, was making his runway debut. The fashion show for his brand Vivet's first collection drew a crowd of the current generation's innovators, giving a reminiscent feeling to the last time a popular figure came crashing through the gates of mainstream fashion.

Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom, who contends he should be considered eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft as a woman, recently sued the Chicago Sky, the City of Chicago and others over an Aug. 23 incident in which he was expelled from attending a Sky-Indiana Fever game in Chicago's Wintrust Arena as a spectator after he and Sky guard Natasha Cloud exchanged words. Kanter's lawsuit isn't about whether, by saying he identifies as a woman, he satisfies the eligibility rule contained in Article XIII of the WNBA's CBA. The rule states that "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA." The word "woman" isn't defined or clarified, meaning it's possible an athlete who was ******* igned male at birth but identifies as a woman meets the requirement.

Florida State Athletics has moved on from Athletic Director Michael Alford after four years leading the program, and the news has taken the Seminoles fanbase by surprise.
While Alford's dismissal itself isn't a surprise given the recent underperformance of the Seminoles football program under head coach Mike Norvell, the timing of the firing was a shock. His firing was announced Monday morning, and it comes the week of FSU's trip to face No. 10 Alabama, a game of significance for the future of Norvell.
Alford's tenure included significant accomplishments across FSU athletics and several marquee coaching hires.
