Internacional, champions of the 1st U-15 Copa do BrasilCredits: Rafael Ribeiro / CBF
In an exciting final between two top teams from Brazil's youth ranks, Internacional beat Palmeiras 3-1 this Saturday (August 1) to become the champions of the first U-15 Copa do Brasil. The match was played at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis (RJ), and was attended by CBF president Samir Xaud.
Asafe, Kayki, and Gustavo Fahmer scored the goals in the win. Maicon scored for Palmeiras. At an intense pace, both teams fought for every ball with grit and determination. They also stood out for their creativity, dribbling, and plays that showed technique and great skill.
At the start of the first half, Palmeiras took control of the game and opened the scoring in the 12th minute through Maicon, after a run down the right by Gabriel Bueno, who got past his marker. It looked as though Palmeiras' second goal would not take long, such was the team's dominance.
But Inter changed the course of the match. They started moving the ball more quickly and equalized in the 26th minute with a goal by Asafe after a corner kick. Then, in the 38th minute, they completed the comeback with a fine finish from Kaique from outside the box.

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly close to agreeing a new contract to coach the United States men's national team, and that's good enough reason for us to dig into the "what's next" for the USMNT under the ex-Spurs and Chelsea boss.
MORE — Zidane takes over France national team
Pochettino could become the first USMNT coach to work consecutive World Cups since Bruce Arena, and he'll have the opportunity to lead the team through qualifying, a Gold Cup, and likely the 2028 Copa America in the United States.
And so Pochettino will look to have the team better prepared to show up against elite competition the next time a Belgium-level opponent is across the pitch in a tournament game.
Pochettino found plenty of success with a back three during the last year with the USMNT, but fullbacks Alex Freeman or Joe Scally were often slid into that back three.

Have you ever imagined your team having a shirt with ONE THOUSAND sponsors?
That was the solution found by Peru's Club Deportivo Municipal to fund the season after being relegated to the Copa Peru, a tournament equivalent to the Fourth Division.
The campaign "Los Mil Sponsors del Muni" ("The Thousand Sponsors of Muni," in Portuguese) was launched in January. And it was a huge success.
It took just three months for a large part of the one thousand small ****** es to be sold for 200 Peruvian soles each (around R$ 300).
"An initiative that challenges conventional sports marketing, with a new sponsorship program. One thousand ****** es available for businesses and ventures at affordable prices, an innovation through which, together, we add up the amount needed to take the club back to the place it deserves," the club said at the time of the initiative's launch.

Philip's $45,000 household income in Los Angeles is an earnings problem. California's cost of living runs 11% above the national baseline, and average consumer expenditures hit $78,535 in 2024.
At a record 21% APR, carrying medical copays on credit cards makes debt repayment nearly impossible at Philip's current income level.
Ramsey argues Philip moving to full-time work at the national median wage of $1,251 per week would roughly double his household income.
Two retirees, same $1 million, same 4% rule, buy one finished with $1.4 million, the other hit $0 in 12 years. Our free reader guide explains the flaw that separated them, and the income-first method built to avoid it.
On July 23, a caller named Philip told Dave Ramsey he could not stop taking on new debt. He is 49, works part-time as a grocery store courtesy clerk in Southern California, and shares a household income of roughly $40,000 to $45,000 with his wife. The debt was credit cards and routine medical bills, copays, doctor visits, dental care. When asked why he was not working full-time, Philip said, "A lot of emotional stuff, a lot of baggage, a lot of... yeah, I have a long history."

Jacksonville's Garrett Scantling captured the decathlon at the USA Track & Field Toyota Outdoor Championships, returning to the top of the grueling 10-event test of all-around athletic prowess for the first time in four years.
Scantling, a graduate of Episcopal High School (now Episcopal School of Jacksonville), recorded 8,526 total points over two days of competition at Icahn Stadium in New York.
He finished 95 clear of runner-up Kyle Garland, the world bronze medalist in 2025. Hakim McMorris came in third, 214 behind Scantling.
Consistency made the difference for Scantling, who placed sixth or higher in the first nine events, including first-place finishes in the long jump, shot put, 110-meter hurdles and javelin throw. Despite losing some ground in the final laps of the deciding 1,500-meter run, traditionally his weakest event, Scantling still found enough in the tank to run a ninth-place 4:43.78 and preserve his overall position atop the standings.
The July 24 triumph for Scantling, now 33, marks a milestone in his comeback to the sport.

For the first time in the program's history, Medicare is covering weight-loss drugs, and the price tag looks almost too good to pass up.
Beginning July 1, eligible Part D enrollees can access medications including Wegovy, Foundayo, and the Zepbound KwikPen for a flat $50 monthly copay through a temporary federal demonstration called the Medicare GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) Bridge.
That is a massive discount compared to the retail price of these drugs, which can exceed $1,000 per month without insurance coverage.
It arrives at a moment when roughly 56% of GLP-1 users say affordability is a significant challenge, a poll from KFF, the health policy research organization, found.
But this is not traditional Part D coverage, and the distinction creates financial consequences that could blindside enrollees who ******* ume the program works like every other Medicare prescription benefit they have used.

Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul will reportedly miss at least the next two Inter Miami matches and likely the MLS All-Star Game following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup.
Inter Miami resumes its season on Wednesday at home against Chicago before traveling to Montreal for a match on Saturday. The duo will be give time off, as per a 2025 agreement between FIFPRO, the global representative organization of players, and FIFA, that stated players are required to get 21 days off at the end of their seasons.
Messi and De Paul were involved in Argentina's run to Sunday's World Cup final, which saw them fall 1-0 to Spain.
While there is a chance Messi and De Paul return to Inter Miami before the three-week rest period is up, they will reportedly not be in attendance at next week's MLS All-Star Game in Charlotte. Both players were named to the squad that will face a Liga MX best XI. Messi was voted in, while De Paul was a coach's selection.
Since joining MLS, Messi has not taken part in an All-Star Game after injuring his ankle during Copa América in 2024 and then using the time off to rest instead of playing in last season's game.

Argentina face England at Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday evening in the World Cup semi-finals, targeting a place in Sunday's final against Spain at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
The reigning world champions have won back-to-back Copa América ******* les and the 2022 World Cup. A win on Wednesday would put them in a fourth consecutive major final — a run of consistency unmatched in modern football. Argentina have never lost a World Cup semi-final in five previous appearances. This fixture will be the first time in Messi's career he has faced England.
Scaloni faces selection decisions rather than injury concerns, though the physical toll of two consecutive extra-time matches is a factor. Cristian Romero was substituted at half-time of extra time against Switzerland through exhaustion and is expected to be ******* sed ahead of kick-off.
Facundo Medina is pushing to start alongside Lisandro Martínez in central defence. Nahuel Molina and Nicolás Tagliafico are expected to continue at full-back, both having been replaced before the end of extra time against Switzerland but deemed fresh enough to start.
Reports from Argentina suggested Scaloni trialled a back three in training on Monday, but a wholesale formation change for a semi-final of this magnitude is considered unlikely. The midfield of Leandro Paredes, Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández and Alexis Mac Allister is expected to continue, with Thiago Almada available from the bench having impressed as a substitute against Switzerland.

The central referees in the CBF PRO category took part last week in an immersion program in Madrid, Spain, for a series of training sessions ahead of the return of the Brazilian Championship Série A and the Copa do Brasil. The schedule included physical and technical training under the coordination of FIFA and Spanish Football Federation instructors.
The activities were held at the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and were coordinated by Jean-Baptiste Bultynck, FIFA physical and technical refereeing ****** yst, Lada Rojc, FIFA technical refereeing instructor, Juan Carlos, refereeing instructor for the Spanish Football Federation, and Jorge Martinez, coordinator of the physical department of the Spanish Football Federation.
Péricles Bassols, vice president of the Refereeing Commission of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), praised the training period at the RFEF and said the referees are returning even stronger for the rest of the Brazilian football season.
"We leave here with an even greater sense of professionalism, not only on the part of the referees, but also as instructors and managers of this process. An immersion like this brings the group together, giving the referees a sense of belonging to something that had never existed before in refereeing. And during the training days, both on the field and in the auditorium, we could see their complete commitment. We made very positive use of the technical side, but there is added value in this immersion that perhaps we cannot measure right now, which is truly their connection to the professional process."

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s struggles at the FIFA World Cup could have a bearing on his future this summer. The Englishman is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and INEOS are looking to cash in on him to fund a busy transfer window.
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he registered 14 goals and 14 ***** ists in 49 games to help them win LaLiga and the Supercopa de Espana. The Premier League giants expected the Catalans to trigger the €30 million purchase option in the player’s contract, but that has not happened. Source: Transfermarkt.
There has been interest in the 28 year old from the Premier League as well, with ***** nal and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly considering a move. KANSAS CITY, MO — Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni is enjoying what he's seeing out of Lionel Messi at the 2026 World Cup but, ahead of a quarterfinal against Switzerland, said he was expecting great things out of his superstar at this tournament.
Despite closing in on the end of his career, Messi leads the Golden Boot race with eight goals scored in five matches. That is no shock to Scaloni, who has overseen Argentina since 2018, winning two Copa America trophies and the 2022 World Cup thanks in part to Messi's brillance.
"It doesn't surprise me. Logically, perhaps people who don't know him were expecting that at 39 he wouldn't be up to it, but while he wants to, he'll be the best," Scaloni said in a news conference. "He'll be 50 at some point and not the best any more but ... I think he'll be the best until he doesn't want to any more. The moment will come when his career is going to end. That's when he'll stop being the best."
Scaloni said that the data he and his coaching staff have indicates that Messi is not running less than he has at past tournaments, seeing good results from working with the trainer and staff he uses. "The games are similar," the manager noted to Messi's matches from the run to the 2022 ****** le and other big moments.
The manager also said Messi had earned the right to decide if he will or won't take a penalty kick. Messi missed the target in the group stage against Austria, though he was able to score two goals from the run of play, and saw his shot in the first half against Egypt saved by goalkeeper Mostafa Shoubir.

Coming into this World Cup, Canada’s hopes hinged on the form of their one world-class player, Alphonso Davies. This has been the case for every major competition they have entered since he made his international debut in 2017, and it’s easy to see why: over the last nine years, Davies has transformed Canada’s fortunes.
After being grouped in each of the first three Gold Cups in the 2010s, Canada have reached the quarter-final or further in five consecutive installments. The Bayern Munich star was also at the fore as they qualified for the 2022 World Cup, the first time they reached men’s football’s biggest stage since 1986. And their fourth-place finish at the 2024 Copa América involved a fit and firing Davies.
Related: Ounahi and Rahimi put Morocco in World Cup quarter-finals and end Canada’s journey
It’s a team sport, but when a roster has one indisputable star, its hopes are often inextricably tied to that player. That was bad news for Canada at this World Cup. Davies missed all three of Canada’s group games as he recovered from an injury he suffered in May. Finally, in the last-32, Davies came off the bench for 15 minutes and helped inspire Canada to victory over South Africa. Surely, it seemed, the Bayern star would take on a similar role on Saturday.
As Canada chased an equalizer against Morocco, though, fans were left wondering when Davies would come off the bench to jolt his team back to life. Marsch never brought on Davies. Canada ended up losing the match 3-0, ending their World Cup hopes.

Paraguay earned their place on football's greatest stage by going back to their roots: defensive strength and collective intensity. For years the team tried to play a possession-based game without succeeding in either defence or attack. Then, in August 2024, Gustavo Alfaro arrived with a clear message from day one, what he called "Paraguayan DNA, intensity and clean sheets. That's what will take us to the World Cup". He was not wrong.
The Argentinian coach remained faithful to the 4-4-2 formation in almost every match, only switching to a back five in the high-altitude games against Ecuador and Bolivia. At the World Cup he seems most likely to favour that classic 4-4-2, with perhaps an occasional 4-2-3-1.
Since replacing Daniel Garnero – sacked after a dismal Copa América – Alfaro has transformed the team. From his very first match, away against Uruguay in Montevideo, Paraguay looked a different side. Subsequent home victories against Brazil and Argentina convinced even the biggest skeptics that the "new" Albirroja was real.
Away from home Paraguay have lost only once under Alfaro, against Brazil. They earned heroic draws in Bolivia, 4,100m above sea level, in Ecuador at 2,800m, and in the suffocating heat and humidity of Barranquilla against Colombia. Qualification was sealed with a tense 0-0 draw at home against Ecuador. The result triggered national euphoria. The celebrations were so intense the country's president, Santiago Peña, declared the following day a national holiday.
While Paraguay's greatest strength lies in their intensity and physicality, they can also produce good football, building smoothly from the back and relying on the game-changing talent of Julio Enciso.

Two weeks ago, Mauricio Pochettino had never coached a World Cup game. Now he is already the winningest coach the U.S. men's national team has ever had at the World Cup.
With wins over Paraguay and Australia in group play and Bosnia-Herzegovina in the round of 32, Pochettino now owns three World Cup victories — more than any coach in American men's soccer history.
Bruce Arena had two in 2002, the year the Americans reached the quarterfinals. Robert Millar got there in 1930, winning two group-stage games to see U.S. reach the semifinals.
The U.S. hired Pochettino in September of 2024, right after the Americans were bounced from the group stage of the Copa America, losing to Uruguay and Panama in a tournament that was supposed to be a warmup for the home World Cup.
Pochettino replaced Gregg Berhalter with a $6 million a year contract, making him the highest-paid coach in U.S. soccer history.

On Tuesday, La Liga announced the complete fixture list for the 2026-27 season, with Real Madrid now knowing who they will play across the 38 matchdays. After two years without winning the ******* le, there is a strong desire to return it to the Bernabeu next May, and with Jose Mourinho now at the helm, their chances are good.
Real Madrid will start the season on the weekend of the 16th of August with a home match against Copa del Rey holders Real Sociedad, with their first away fixture the following weekend at Elche. Newly-promoted side Malaga then travel to the Bernabeu before they round off their first set of five matches with matches against Real Betis (away) and Rayo Vallecano (home).
Fans will eagerly anticipate the first El Clasico fixture of the season, which takes place on MD10 – the weekend of the 25th of October – at the Spotify Camp Nou, with the return match being at the Bernabeu on MD35 in May. As for city rivals Atletico Madrid, Mourinho’s side will travel to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on MD7 before welcoming Diego Simeone’s men to Catalonia on MD30, scheduled for early April.
Real Madrid are certainly in a better way to win the La Liga ******* le than they were a few weeks ago. The arrival of Mourinho, coupled with Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva being signed, has injected fresh optimism into the Bernabeu, and that could increase further with more new signings.
Real Madrid are currently working on plans to sign a new central defender and midfielder, and if they were to tempt Michael Olise away from Bayern Munich with a record-breaking offer, they would surely be favourites to conquer Barcelona and Atleti in the race to win the 2026-27 La Liga ******* le.
