A plaque has been unveiled at the former home of Liverpool Football Club's most successful manager Bob Paisley.
He took over in 1974 after Bill Shankly's shock resignation and in his nine seasons in charge, Paisley won six league **** les, three European Cups, three League Cups, a Uefa Cup, Super Cup and three Charity Shields. He was also manager of the year on six occasions.
Originally from Hetton-le-Hole on the outskirts of Sunderland, Bob Paisley spent 45 years at Liverpool as a player, physiotherapist, coach, **** istant manager, manager and director.
He lived for many years in the Liverpool suburb of Woolton where today a plaque was unveiled at his former home on Bower Road.

With a heavily changed lineup, and away from Belo Horizonte, Galo earned another important point in the competition.
The result extended Galo's unbeaten run to 11 matches. The team was coming off a draw with Bragantino in the Copa Sudamericana, a result that secured qualification for the quarterfinals, and now it also keeps the streak alive in the Brasileirão.
With an eye on the derby against Cruzeiro in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals, head coach Eduardo Domínguez opted for an alternative lineup. Names that have been important throughout the season were rested, while players with fewer minutes were given an opportunity.
Among the new faces was Fred, who made his debut in the Galo shirt. The midfielder came on in the second half and took part in the closing stages of the match.

On the morning of last Sunday (16), Atlético's youth academy director, Luiz Carlos de Azevedo, welcomed the owners of Kiala FC, Kelly Key and her husband, Mico Freitas, and showed them the youth facilities at Cidade do Galo.
The visit formalized the partnership between Galo and the Angolan club for the recruitment and development of African athletes by Alvinegro.
The project will include a permanent Galo scout on the African continent, in addition to presenting the youth academy methodology to Kiala's professionals. In return, Atlético hopes to receive more players from the African continent in the coming years.

CBF held the draw for the quarterfinals of the 2026 Copa do Brasil this Tuesday (11), in Rio de Janeiro, which will feature, for the first time since 1989, three state derby matchups. On one side of the bracket, the competition will have the clashes between Internacional x Grêmio and Cruzeiro x Atlético-MG. On the other, Vasco x Vitória and Palmeiras x Santos.
Of these four matchups, two have previously decided the tournament: the Minas Gerais derby, Atlético-MG x Cruzeiro, in 2014, when Galo were crowned champions, and the São Paulo derby, Palmeiras x Santos, in 2015, when Alviverde lifted the trophy.
Historically, all four matchups have taken place before. Grêmio and Inter faced each other only once, in 1992, in the quarterfinals, when Colorado advanced on penalties. Cruzeiro and Atlético-MG, in addition to the 2014 final, met in the quarterfinals in 2019 and 2025, with one victory for each side.

I've never seen a documentary about Girl Scout Cookies before, so I went into Alysa Nahmias's "Cookie Queens" figuring that it might include, among other things, a tantalizing history of this beloved American institution — a rundown of the nine current varieties of Girl Scout Cookie (my favorite: Samoas, obvi! With Tagalongs a close second), a survey of some of the dozens of discontinued flavors (Rasberry Rallies, we hardly knew ye), and — more to the point — a look at how Girl Scout Cookies came to be, how the Girl Scout Cookie season developed into a wholesome Middle American pastime, and what Girl Scout Cookies have meant, through the decades, to those of us who hungrily consume them and to all the girls who've devoted themselves to selling boxes of them.
But no! "Cookie Queens" includes none of that stuff. The movie unfolds entirely in the present and never gives you even a fleeting sense of the past, of how Girl Scout Cookies rose in prominence to become the phenomenon they are today. (In case you're wondering, they were launched in World War I to raise money for U.S. soldiers.) The opening credits, set to the Julie Ruin's "Cookie Road," which sounds like a great lost track from the B-52's, play over black-and-white photographs and old film footage of Girl Scouts from bygone eras. But once the credits are over, the movie gets down to its single-minded theme and obsession: how Girl Scout Cookies, once a quaint piece of Americana, have lurched into their late-capitalist phase, with the girls who sell them vying to become champions by fashioning themselves into 12-year-old entrepreneurial go-getters.

Welcome back to Part 2 (Electric Boogaloo) of my journey to and through the Sydney Super Cup, talking through what the tournament and trip was like from a fan perspective… but also from having access a fan might not usually have. Part travel blog, part human-interest piece, part fan boy experience; here's what it felt like as a fan walking into the press box and seeing Spurs play for the first time. Hopefully you enjoy.

So there I was: in the press box ahead of Tottenham Hotspur kicking off against Sydney in what would be my first live Tottenham Hotspur experience. Worth It had taken a 17-11 lead into the second leg against Not Worth It. I admired the view and sneakily took the photo you saw in the previous piece; I felt like a total fish out of water, and taking photos like a tourist would have cemented that status. In front of me were sitting a number of journalists and club media staff.
I stood awkwardly behind all of them, as my understanding was that each spot (there are rows of desks in the press box, with plug points and cabling slots for individuals like myself to set up) was set aside for a specific person; but I also noted that there weren't any names on any of the chairs or desks, and so I just kind of milled around until I picked up the courage to ask a friendly Australian whether or not the seats were reserved. I probably looked like a stalker. They were not reserved, so I needn't have worried.
I took a seat and realized two things: one, I was seated behind a handful of very well-known Spurs and Chelsea football journalists from the likes of BBC, The Athletic, and Football London; and two, I was extremely hungry.

T he death of young Filipino basketball player Rene Baterbonia at a training camp in June captivated social media users in the Philippines, including a TikTok post falsely claiming that an NBA coach had planned to recruit the 18-year-old for the 2026-27 season. AFP found that the clip had been digitally altered, while the original video was published before Baterbonia's death.
"OKC Thunder coach planned to recruit Rene Baterbonia after seeing his potential during his basketball games," the overlaid Tagalog-language text on a TikTok clip reads.
The post has racked up over 869,000 views since it was published on July 20. It claims Baterbonia "would've been the first pure Filipino to join the NBA".
The TikTok video shows Mark Daigneault, head coach of the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC Thunder), speaking at a press conference ( archived link).
Daigneault can be heard saying they planned to draft Baterbonia, an 18-year-old college student at Ateneo De Manila University, before he died (archived here and here).

A nine-year-old boy who "loved life and nature" was killed by his "unconventional, doting" mother who then took her own life, a coroner has concluded.
Hudson Paterson, nine, and Tasmin Paterson, 31, were found dead by her partner in a bedroom in a bungalow at Fletchersbridge, near Bodmin, Cornwall, in September 2024, an inquest heard.
Senior coroner for Cornwall Andrew ******* said Ms Paterson had argued with Marcus Hughes and had gone to bed "distressed" with the thought the relationship was coming to an end.
Cox concluded Hudson's cause of death was unlawful killing and, for Ms Paterson's death, recorded a verdict of suicide.
Hughes said the couple had been sleeping in separate rooms and when he went to wake them, he grew concerned as there was no response, so he called 999 and forced entry.

Rosie O'Donnell speculated on why President Donald Trump is "so obsessed" with her, decades after their public feud began.
On the July 17 episode of the Work in Progress With Sophia Bush podcast, O'Donnell, 64, shared her theory about the ongoing beef the POTUS, 80, has with her.
"It's so crazy to me, Rosie," Bush, 44, said. "He's so obsessed with you."
To that, O'Donnell said, "I have a theory. We both grew up on Long Island. Because – and it's only fair to give some warning here – it hurts to support your team in knockout football, pain spawned from a specific kind of angst that churns your insides whenever the ball goes near the goal. When Alexander Sorloth and Erling Haaland rushed behind England's defence on Saturday night, and Norway were effectively one pass from the semi-finals, you may have experienced side effects such as swearing repeatedly or forgetting to breathe. Don't panic, this is all normal.

Isn’t it strange how the same song can sound so awful sung by a lone dude with a guitar beside a campfire serenading a lady, and yet so magnificent sung by 40,000 people around a pitch serenading a soccer club? That, my friends, is the wonder of “Wonderwall.”
Much like “Country Roads” ascended to become the unofficial theme of the United States Men’s National Team, this year’s World Cup has anointed the Oasis classic “Wonderwall” as the soundtrack to England’s magical run to the semis … and possibly beyond.
“Wonderwall”’s soccer resurgence is a perfect marriage of music and moment, a ‘90s classic repurposed for a squad on a mission, in a sport that thrives on the deep bonds between players and supporters. As England — a nation always veering from euphoria to melancholy and back, a nation always living in the shadow of its own history — tries to win its first World Cup since 1966, why not use a song from 30 years ago as its rallying cry?
You already know why “Wonderwall” is such a perfect song for a stadium singalong. It’s an easy, stately melody that proceeds at a pace ideal for singing. The first time you heard it, it sounded like something you’d been hearing all your life. No matter how many pints you’ve quaffed during the match, you can stumble your way in the direction of the right key during that “And aaaafter allll, you’re my wonderwaaaall…” chorus.
Plus, like all great singalongs, it sounds better in a group, swaying with your arms around your mates. Sure, **** ody quite knows what a “wonderwall” is, but who cares? The song evokes nostalgia, joy and camaraderie all at once. Those types of tunes don’t come along often.

The negotiations involving Atlético-MG and midfielder Fred have entered a new chapter, but there is still no imminent outcome for the Atlético fans.
The CEO of the Minas Gerais club, Pedro Daniel, spoke openly about the talks, making it clear that completing the deal is seen as very difficult at the moment.
The main obstacle is Fred's contract with the Turkish club, which runs until June 2027.
Since Galo's board has already decided it will not make major investments in the transfer window that opens on July 20, the deal would only be viable if the player terminates his contract with Fenerbahce.
The player returned to the Turkish club at the end of June, but Atlético continues to monitor the situation closely. Pedro Daniel explained the scenario:

Bill Danoff, co-writer of "Country Roads”, expressed his honor to The ******* ociated Press that the US team has adopted the song, suggesting that Denver, who tragically died in a 1997 plane crash, would have "relished" watching their latest performance.
