He was the unicorn in the transfer market and a generational player in that respect. I think Liverpool have maybe looked at replacing Salah's numbers through an out-and-out number nine.
That's something we haven't seen Liverpool use over the last couple of years. If you think back to the peak Jurgen Klopp era, it was Roberto Firmino who was a false nine dropping into midfield.

Someone is collecting signatures that might kill a racetrack by telling people it will save it. That is not a typo. Paid canvassers in Nashville were caught on hidden camera telling residents that signing their petition would protect the Fairgrounds Speedway from being torn down by corporate developers. The petition actually does the exact opposite. It strips racing's legal protections from the city charter and tries to open the land to housing construction. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sat down with Marcus Smith, Jeff Burton, and Matt Weaver to talk about it.
"My question is, if it's true, which there's video evidence of these folks seeking these signatures, stating false information or just incorrect information, how can that not be taken to de-legitimize the 50,000, 60,000 signatures they need?" said Dale Jr. on Wednesday's episode of The Dale Jr. Download.
"They are using actual government letterhead to give this to the residents. That's the moment it becomes a legal matter."
Residents who figured out they were misled are now trying to pull their names off the petition. But the Metro Clerk's office earlier told them they cannot before suggesting that anyone who would like to remove their name can contact Restore Our Fairgrounds. That said, former council members have already filed formal complaints demanding a full investigation.
The petition campaign has been backed by John Ingram, per reports, owner of Nashville SC.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A divided federal appeals court on Tuesday said the Trump administration improperly terminated billions of dollars in funds to boost clean energy projects, handing a win to a coalition of nonprofits picked to run the Biden-era effort.
Climate United Fund and other nonprofits won't have access to their funds immediately as the decision will be put on hold for several days giving the Environmental Protection Agency time to ask the Supreme Court to step in.
The judgement by the full U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia is a loss for the Trump administration in one of its earliest efforts to dismantle President Joe Biden's campaign to reduce climate-warming greenhouse gases. The Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund, commonly referred to as a "green bank," is a $20 billion congressionally authorized program that provided money to nonprofits that would then make loans and invest in small energy projects, energy-efficient buildings and transportation.
EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin accused Climate United Fund and other nonprofits picked to run the green bank of mismanagement and potential fraud. He froze billions that had been placed in a Citibank account for the program and then terminated their grants. The groups disputed any wrongdoing and sued, arguing the Trump administration broke the law and violated the Constitution by not spending money authorized by Congress.
"Despite efforts to harm the awardees with false allegations and misinformation, there remains no legal basis for terminating our grant award and clawing back funds that were already disbursed in our bank accounts," Climate United said in a statement.

Smith launched an incensed rant against Cheryl Reeve, the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx. Reeve recently wore a shirt that read "Trans Kids Belong" while coaching a WNBA game.
"We gotta stop this. We gotta stop acting like somebody that's speaking up on behalf of girls, like the Sophie Cunninghams, like the Riley Gaineses, are scourges of the earth. You are Cheryl Reeve, the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx. That is an irresponsible thing to do," Smith said.
He continued:
You are a coach for a female basketball team. Do you not think that the females are being screwed over if they have to compete against an individual born as a male? What are you talking about? What are you talking about? Trying to tell me that a college player, a man, at a college program anywhere in the country, or an NBA player, should transition to being a woman and be allowed to compete in the WNBA? However this season ends, it's reignited a spark around here that hasn't been lit since 2021 and hasn't roared in nearly 10 years. The Blue Jays were two outs away from winning it all last year and changing the whole labor narrative, some say, tho ultimately I don't think by much. Meaning the Sox have a shot. While I love that the Dodgers (a preposterous +160) do their thing, they're up against a emboldened, whiny club of failsons who've had it out for them from the word go and this is something of a last stand. The only other thing that can bring the Dodgers down, seemingly, is the Sox, who just swept them in LA. They're now Sox likely to make the playoffs (-950) and are closing in on the division (Rays -110, Yankees +155) at +430. The sportsbooks plainly recognize, respect and reflect Bres's ambition. KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The head of U.S. Pacific Command said Monday that coercive actions by China and other actors are challenging regional stability, warning the United States will not allow any nation to dominate the Indo-Pacific.
Admiral Samuel Paparo said some actors were using "false claims of legitimacy" to justify intimidation and coercion.
"That's not the rule of law. That's the rule by law. That distinction between law as a tool of order versus law as a weapon of raw power, is the defining fault line of our time," he said via video link at a regional security conference in Malaysia organized by the U.S. Pacific Command.
Paparo's remarks come as tensions remain high in the South China Sea, where China's expansive maritime claims overlap with those of several Southeast Asian nations. The Philippines has been at the center of a series of confrontations with China, particularly around a disputed shoal, where Chinese and Philippine vessels have repeatedly faced off.
Manila has accused Beijing of dangerous maneuvers, water cannon attacks and attempts to block Philippine resupply missions. China has rejected those accusations and maintains its territorial claims in the disputed waterway.

That was not an isolated warning. Starbucks quietly retired an AI inventory system only nine months after deployment after baristas reported that it miscounted products and slowed their work. Deloitte's Australian member firm agreed to partially refund the government for a $290,000 AI-assisted report that included nonexistent academic sources and a fabricated court quotation. Different industries. Different technologies. The same failure: people could not trust the output, the identity, or the system.
Trust is becoming a form of economic infrastructure. Companies that cannot engineer it will move slower, spend more, and lose markets. When trust is strong, capital moves, partnerships form, and companies scale. When it breaks, transactions slow, compliance and insurance costs rise, and leaders retreat from risk.

During the appearance, Carlisle spoke about how all-time NBA players would dominate regardless of the era that they played in. Liverpool are one step closer to a dream signing.

Anthony Smith's wife and manager released statements following the former UFC star's recent arrest.
On Monday, Smith turned himself in to the police after an arrest warrant was issued in relation to a domestic incident between Smith and his wife on July 26. Smith was charged with three felonies — Attempted first-degree domestic ****** ault (class II felony), terroristic threats (class III-A felony), and first-degree false imprisonment (class III-A felony) — with authorities alleging that Smith threatened to kill his wife after an altercation at a bar.
Smith was released on a $500,000 bond after the incident, and ordered to stay away from his wife while his trial is pending. For the first time, Smith's wife released a statement about the situation on social media.
"There's not a lot I can say right now. I love Anthony with every ounce of my being. He is a good man, a great dad, and an incredible husband who loves us endlessly. Anyone that knows him can attest to that. They made a mental health struggle into something it wasn't. I am safe and always was safe. He would never hurt me. Ever. I called for help to protect him from himself."

He was released on a $500,000 bond, ordered to stay away from his wife, and is scheduled to return to court Aug. 17.
The charges against him, according to the Sarpy County Attorney's Office, include some frightening details. Smith, it is alleged, threatened to kill his wife if she did not leave with him. Then, the charges say he forced her into the vehicle. Additionally, investigators determined Smith tried multiple times to hit his wife with the vehicle after she escaped while he was driving, but was unsuccessful. Smith turned himself in, officials said, after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Smith, to no surprise, has not commented publicly about the arrest or charges. He regularly works the UFC's broadcast desk as an ******* yst on Paramount+ for pre- and post-fight UFC shows.
His former boss, White, on Friday told The Mac Life the allegations were a surprise to him, but also compared it to his own recent time in the headlines when he was caught on camera slapping his wife in Mexico.

Chelsea have been fined £10m and given a suspended two-window transfer ban by an independent appeal board after admitting breaches of Football ****** ociation agent rules, the FA has announced.
The Blues were charged last September with 74 alleged breaches of the FA's rules around agent regulations, concerning its use of unauthorised agents or unregistered intermediaries when signing new players and then submitted false and misleading documentation to the FA. They primarily related to the seasons between 2010/11 to 2015/16, which came under the ownership of the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
The FA appeal board's written reasons reveals Chelsea "plainly disregarded" the rules and made undisclosed payments to agents or third-parties when signing players such as the Brazilian forward Willian and striker Samuel Eto'o during that time.

Sky Germany reports that FC Augsburg attacker Mert Kömür is open to moving to England amid increasing interest from Hull City. Hull's pursuit of the 21-year-old Germany U21 international first emerged earlier this week. The Premier League club have now reportedly opened discussions with Kömür, his family, and his representatives over a potential summer transfer out of the Bundesliga.
Augsburg have been informed of the talks and are fundamentally willing to sanction Kömür's departure. A transfer fee of approximately €20 million is presently being discussed, though Hull have not yet opened formal negotiations with the Bundesliga club.
Kömür remains under contract through 2029 after receiving a new long-term Augsburg deal last summer. The WNBA appears to be at an inflection point that will decide whether it can successfully navigate the inordinate attention around Indiana star Caitlin Clark, or if it will be captured by uninformed media perspectives and false narratives.
Clark is a full-fledged icon in America's culture wars, a straight white point guard in a largely Black and LGBTQ league. And she is also a money-maker like the WNBA has never seen. She also is a 24-year-old who can't seem to ever satisfy critics.
In an appearance on The Awful Announcing Podcast this week, sports commentator Jemele Hill shared her thoughts, after covering WNBA All-Star weekend, on the vast divide between media perspectives on television and across the internet and how the people close to Clark feel about her.
"I feel a lot of empathy for her, just because there's so much of this she did not ask for," Hill said. "She didn't ask to be some kind of bat signal for a culture war. She certainly didn't ask for the group of fans — which I believe are not the majority — the group of fans that have decided that she's going to be their vessel to get off as much racism as they possibly can."
Hill likened the intense scrutiny toward Clark to another sports story, transgender athlete laws, that has been co-opted by conservative media as well.

One said she was 17 when she was **** ually **** aulted, while another accused Leto of statutory rape as she was also 17. One woman said she was 19 when Leto threatened her with **** ual **** ault and another said she was 16 when Leto made **** ually explicit phone calls and propositioned her.
The BBC says it corroborated the women's accounts, which could not be independently verified by the AP. The documentary does not identify the women by their full names. The BBC said Leto did not respond to its attempts to seek comment for its documentary. The AP sent an emailed request for comment to the BBC on Wednesday seeking a response to Leto's denial.
Leto was also accused of misconduct by nine women who spoke to Air Mail for a story published last year. A representative for Leto denied those allegations at the time.

Anthony Smith has been released from Sarpy County Jail in Nebraska.
The former UFC light heavyweight ****** le challenger, who later transitioned to the role of ****** yst for UFC broadcasts, was arrested last Monday night (July 27, 2026) on felony charges of Attempted First Degree Domestic ****** ault, Terroristic Threats, and First Degree False Imprisonment.
Smith appeared before the judge on Wednesday morning and released on $500,000 bond.
That's according to a report from MMA Fighting, though Smith's arrest affidavit remains sealed. All we know at this stage is that "Lionheart" is facing serious allegations and will return to court at some point in the near future. Neither Smith nor UFC have issued a statement at the time of this writing.
Smith, who turned 38 just a few days back, retired from UFC in early 2025 but returned to action for Jorge Masvidal's Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA in April, securing a submission victory over fellow UFC export Chase Sherman. If convicted, Smith (39-22) could be facing up to 20 years in prison.

Kohberger plans to argue that he had bad counsel. Court records show he filed a petition for post-conviction relief Monday.
Kohberger, in his handwritten petition, claims that he was "convinced to falsely confess," claiming his high-profile defense team of Anne Taylor, Elisa Massoth and Bicka Barlow didn't tell him about "exculpatory discovery" — evidence mentioned in the recent "Broken Plea" book but never vetted in court.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal officials involved in the prosecution of James Comey misled judges, submitted false statements and withheld key facts during the course of the investigation, according to new defense filings that seek the dismissal of a case charging the former FBI director with threatening President Donald Trump on social media.
Lawyers for Comey made the allegations of misconduct in motions filed late Tuesday that also call the case a vindictive and selective prosecution, request access to transcripts of grand jury proceedings to expose what they say are "irregularities" in how the indictment was secured, and describe "unlawful" surveillance of Comey by the Secret Service.
Taken together, the new motions, along with an earlier one this week that called Comey's social media post protected speech and not a threat, represent a multiprong defense effort to dismantle a case that defense lawyers say exemplifies a Trump administration retribution campaign targeting one of the president's most vocal critics.
"Ample objective evidence — much of which comes directly from government officials' own public statements and admissions — establishes that the President's animus toward Mr. Comey led to this vindictive and selective prosecution," Comey's lawyers wrote in one of the filings.
Comey was charged in April with threatening Trump through a photo he posted on Instagram a year earlier depicting seashells he said he found on the beach in North Carolina in the numerical arrangement of "86 47."

For three consecutive presidential campaigns, President Donald Trump regularly told the same lie when he spoke in the swing state of Michigan. Before he even entered politics, he claimed, he was named "Man of the Year" in the state.
The problem: CNN and other media outlets repeatedly noted that this award did not exist. But Trump revived the tale once more near the end of a falsehood-filled economic speech in Michigan on Monday — and added an additional lie claiming that an initially skeptical media had eventually discovered the award story was correct.
"I was here 25 years ago, I got Man of the Year. They — oh, by the way, the press questioned that, and then they found out it was true, actually," Trump said with a chuckle. "And I made a speech, and all I talked about was why are you letting them steal your auto industry?"
Nope. This is yet another example of the fake history that has littered various Trump addresses this month.
Approaching 10 full years after Trump debuted the "Man of the Year" lie, ***** ody has ever been able to find any evidence for it. The state of Michigan does not give out a "Man of the Year" award, Trump has never lived in the state, and he and his team have never specified who or what entity supposedly gave him this award and when.

(NewsNation) — A year after pleading guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students, Bryan Kohberger is challenging his conviction.
According to a handwritten post-conviction petition, the criminology student claims he was "convinced to falsely confess" to the crimes. He claims he was swayed into the plea deal that landed him life in prison through "coercion, disinformation, false promises, and the withholding of exculpatory discovery."
While Kohberger claims he had ineffective counsel who "misrepresented" what life in prison would be like, NewsNation contributor Ashleigh Banfield told Hena Doba on Monday she believes Kohberger's just bored.
"Life in prison is really awful," she said. "And when you're his age, you're facing about 70 years of this last one year that he's had. He didn't like his last year. He's been in solitary. It's boring. He's tired of it."
