Manchester City host Bournemouth on Sunday as they kick off their first Premier League season in a decade without Pep Guardiola in charge.
Enzo Maresca is tasked with delivering trophies at City and his new-look side have had a tough preseason as plenty of experienced, crucial players (Rodri, John Stones, Bernardo Silva) have moved on. Their 3-0 defeat to ******* nal in the Community Shield last weekend was also very worrying. Still, having Erling Haaland and plenty of other superstars around is very helpful for Maresca and City will still be right up there.
It has been all change at Bournemouth this summer too with Marco Rose replacing Andoni Iraola as head coach, as the Cherries prepare for their first-ever season in Europe. It will be intriguing to see how Bournemouth's relatively small squad juggles the Thursday-Sunday grind.
Here's everything you need for Manchester City vs Bournemouth.
Kick off time: 9am ET Sunday (August 23)
Venue: Etihad Stadium — Manchester

Thirty-three days after the World Cup ended, the Premier League season begins on Aug. 21, filled with storylines as usual.
Can ***** nal repeat? Which big clubs will bounce back and which will struggle? How will all the new managers fare? Will a newly-promoted team stay up? Can anyone score more goals than Erling Haaland?
These questions will take nine drama-filled months to answer, though clues lie in last season's numbers. Each team's players have changed to some extent, but enough holdovers remain to use underlying stats as part of this season's projections.
For example, before last season Wolverhampton's underlying numbers had suggested relegation danger for several years, and Bournemouth's hinted at the ability to push for Champions League. Both omens came to fruition, as Wolves finally went down, and the Cherries took sixth.
The numbers aren't foolproof, of course. No stats indicated Tottenham would nearly get relegated, that Chelsea would barely finish in the top half, or that ***** nal would have perhaps the best set-piece season ever. That's the fun in sports of course. You never quite know what you're going to get, but that doesn't prevent us from taking our best shots.

MILAN (AP) — Italian authorities recovered three artworks by Renoir, Cézanne and Matisse worth millions of euros that were stolen earlier this year from a private museum near the northern city of Parma, police said Friday. Five people were detained.
A statement from the Italian Carabinieri's art recovery squad said the artworks were discovered in the possession of one of the suspects during searches ordered by prosecutors in the Parma province and neighboring provinces. The five suspects detained are believed to belong to an organized crime group responsible for numerous thefts of homes, businesses and other properties. Police also recovered stolen goods worth tens of thousands of euros.
Meanwhile, Brazilian police said late Thursday they located eight stolen works by Matisse following an apartment raid outside Sao Paulo. There were no apparent links between the two thefts.
The three artworks recovered in Italy are "Fish," a painting by Auguste Renoir, "Still Life with Cherries," a pencil and watercolor by Paul Cézanne, and "Odalisque on the Terrace," a color aqatint by Henri Matisse. Authorities said the Cézanne was valued at 6 million euros ($7 million), the Renoir at 3 million euros ($3.5 million), and the Matisse at 20,000 euros ($23,000).
The heist at the Magnani Rocca Foundation, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Parma, took place on the night of March 22-23, police said. Video distributed by authorities showed the thieves entering through a broken door window and then taking the three artworks down from adjacent walls before exiting and escaping through the gardens in a matter of minutes.

David Moyes is at the Hill ***** inson Stadium and Goodison Park with the Toffees. Everton have made an official enquiry about Bournemouth attacker Marcus Tavernier, exploring the parameters of a potential summer move, according to Ben Jacobs.
The Toffees have opened dialogue with the player's representatives to gauge his interest in a move to Merseyside, but have yet to hold talks with Bournemouth.
Tavernier has become a key and versatile player since joining Bournemouth from Middlesbrough in 2022. Able to operate across both flanks, as an attacking midfielder, or in a box-to-box role, his tactical flexibility makes him an attractive target for Everton as they look to build squad depth ahead of next season.
Last season, Tavernier enjoyed one of his most productive Premier League campaigns, recording seven goals and four ***** ists in 34 appearances, while creating 54 chances to lead Bournemouth's playmaking metrics. His work rate, ball-carrying ability, and set-piece threat make him a crucial figure for the Cherries.
Despite Everton testing the waters with Tavernier's representatives, striking a deal with Bournemouth will be challenging. The South Coast club are under no financial pressure to sell, having tied Tavernier to a contract until June 2029. Furthermore, with European football ahead after a sixth-place finish last season, Bournemouth are unlikely to part with a key player at this stage of the window.

Bournemouth are finalising an £11.1m move for Sevilla right-back Juanlu as new manager Marco Rose's squad nears completion.
The 22-year-old will cost an initial £9.4m, with a further £1.7m in add-ons, and is expected to move to the south coast on a long-term contract.
Juanlu is a tall, attacking full-back with significant experience despite his young age and has been heavily capped at Spanish youth level.
It would be the Cherries' third signing of the summer after the arrivals of Antonio Silva from Benfica for £26.6m and striker Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche for £25.7m earlier in the transfer window.
Rose is now looking only for a new number two goalkeeper capable of challenging Djordje Petrovic as Bournemouth continue pre-season ahead of a historic campaign in which they will compete in the Europa League for the first time.

In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Chelsea are set to make an improved offer for Bournemouth star Alex Scott. It has been mentioned that the Blues are prepared to make an offer of around £70m to sign the English talent this off-season.
Scott enjoyed a good run of form for Bournemouth in the previous campaign as he was responsible for putting in a series of impressive performances for them at the centre of the park. The 22-year-old scored four goals and grabbed one ******* ist in 39 matches for the Cherries last season across all competitions.
The English talent is currently one of the most talented central midfielders in Premier League football. Thus, it is no wonder that the Blues are eyeing a move to acquire his services in this transfer window.
His current deal at Bournemouth will run out in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Eli Junior Kroupi will not be leaving Bournemouth this summer after being ruled out for three to four months with a fractured metatarsal.
Bournemouth have received enquires fromManchester City and Barcelona in recent weeks for the forward, who scored 13 goals in 33 appearances during an impressive debut campaign with the Cherries. ***** nal have also monitored his situation.
His 13 goals saw Kroupi Junior break the record for the highest number of goals scored by any teenager in their debut season inPremier League history, eclipsing Robbie Fowler and Robbie Keane.
Several sides have contacted Bournemouth to discuss the conditions of a potential deal, though the Cherries have insisted the 20-year-old is not for sale.
Suitors are now set to look elsewhere, following Kroupi Junior's injury in pre-season. Bournemouth have confirmed the forward has undergone 'successful surgery'.

Paris Saint-Germain are not expected to attempt to sign AFC Bournemouth's Éli Junior Kroupi (20) this summer, according to reports from RMC Sport.
Whilst seeking an attacking reinforcement to compensate for the departures of Gonçalo Ramos (24), Lee Kang-in (25) and Randal Kolo Muani (27), the Rouge et Bleu management have not, for the time being, opened the door to the young striker's arrival in the capital, although he is reportedly interested in the project and has supporters within the club.
However, given the Cherries' determination to keep him and the potential cost of prising him away, the Kroupi deal is not currently a priority. A sum in excess of €100m is said to be the minimum required for any club wishing to secure his services.
Meanwhile, Barcelona's Ferran Torres (26) and Atalanta's Charles de Ketelaere (25) – whose names have already been linked with the two-time European champions – are on Paris's shortlist. So too is a third player, whose identity has not yet been revealed.

Bournemouth centre-back James Hill says that new manager Marco Rose is allowing him and his Cherries team-mates to dream.
Following the departure of former manager Andoni Iraola, Rose was brought in to fulfil the Spaniard's legacy, leading Bournemouth in their first European campaign - in addition to performing competitively in the Premier League following a sixth-placed finish.
Hill said Rose has made a strong start and praised his encouragement of a "family-first" approach as the defender awaits the birth of his first child.
"In terms of player management, he's been absolutely fantastic," Hill told club media. "He's spoken to everyone as individuals as well as the group. He's let us know his standards as well. If we ever drop below par he lets us know because he knows the level we can reach as a group."
Rose arrives at Vitality stadium with a wealth of experience in Europe, having managed in the Champions League and Europa League with former clubs.

Manchester United are considering a bid for Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams, according to talkSPORT. Man United want one more signing in the position after recruiting Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans earlier this month. Adams has been on the Red Devils' radar for a while, and a concrete move could now be on the cards. The American is loved by Man United's data department, and they want him at Old Trafford. It is believed around £40 million could be enough to get the Bournemouth star this summer.
The 27-year-old has been dubbed a 'great leader', and the Red Devils could do with his quality in the middle of the park. While the Cherries star is primarily a midfielder, he is capable of playing as a full-back on either side of the defence or midfield. Man United manager Michael Carrick is a fan of versatile players, and Adams fits the bill. The American brings much-needed experience to the table having spent four seasons in the Premier League after four seasons in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig.

Alex Scott enjoyed an impressive season with Bournemouth, which has made the midfielder one of the club’s most sought-after players. His performances have attracted interest from ****** nal and several other top clubs ahead of the current transfer window.
Scott played a key role under Andoni Iraola as Bournemouth secured European football last season and narrowly missed out on a Champions League place. His contributions in midfield, along with several important goals, helped the Cherries achieve an excellent campaign.
One of Scott’s memorable moments came when he scored at the Emirates as Bournemouth stunned ****** nal in April. That performance appears to have strengthened the Gunners’ interest, with the ****** le holders keen to add him to their squad.
However, Bournemouth have so far blocked his departure this summer despite the player wanting a new challenge. The 22-year-old could potentially increase pressure on the club by making his desire to leave clear, forcing them to consider a sale.
Scott’s contract with Bournemouth runs until the summer of 2028, and the club have attempted to secure his long-term future by offering him a new deal. However, those efforts have not been successful so far.

Bournemouth have rejected a £64m bid from Chelsea for midfielder Alex Scott.
The Cherries made it clear to the Blues that any further approaches would not be welcomed and that they intend to keep hold of one of their star players.
However, it remains a difficult situation for the club as the England Under-21 international has rejected a new contract that has been on the table for at least two months.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City also expressed an interest in Scott earlier in the window.
Chelsea are also interested in signing England defender John Stones on a free transfer following his departure from Manchester City.

Tarik Muharemovic will leave Serie A, as Juventus elected not to bring him back, while Antonio Silva, who had been attached to Milan, won't be coming to the Peninsula. Both are headed to the Premier League, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).
Leeds United have bested Bournemouth and Sunderland in the race for the Bosnian defender. They will pay €38/40M to Sassuolo. The Bianconeri will pocket half of that figure due to a 50 percent resale clause. They wished to acquire him for about €15M, but the Emilian side drove up his price tag. The center-back will sign a rich five-year deal.
While Juventus gave serious thought to signing Muharemovic, Milan didn't go past an initial inquiry for Antonio Silva. Benfica couldn't convince him to sign an extension and then swiftly sold him to the Cherries.
The Rossoneri have already signed Mario Gila for a higher fee. They might add further if they parted ways with Fikayo Tomori. The Englishman has been linked to the Old Lady, but they'll resume negotiating with Bologna for Jhon Lucumi first now that his €28M release clause is no longer in play. He's drawing interest from Saudi Arabia, though, Sportitalia informs.
The Rossoneri would have purchased the latter if they really wanted him, considering how much they shelled out for Gila, who's more of a sure thing. If they address the position again, it'll have to be a proper stud.

Bournemouth are in talks with Benfica to sign Portugal defender Antonio Silva as a replacement for Marcos Senesi.
The Cherries have targeted the 22-year-old following Senesi's decision to leave on a free transfer and join Tottenham Hotspur.
Silva is seen as a good ball-playing replacement for the Argentina centre-back, although Benfica have paused further progression in the talks as they look to get through Europa League qualifying.
The Portuguese club face St Gallen in Switzerland on 23 July, with the return a week later in Lisbon.
Silva has been a regular for Benfica since breaking into the first team in 2022 and has featured in the Champions League, Europa League and Club World Cup.

Manchester United face a fierce battle with their major rivals, and AFC Bournemouth, to secure Alex Scott as the Red Devils focus on 22-year-old midfielder as their new priority target, according to a transfer expert.
Having enjoyed a superb season in which he helped propel Bournemouth into Europe for the first time in the club’s 127-year history, Scott is a man in demand this summer. Every member of England’s elite has expressed interest in the Guernsey native, though the Cherries are adamant he will not be leaving the south coast.

Scott’s current deal expires in 2028. Talks are ongoing over a contract extension, which will include a release clause – a similar approach to the one taken with Antoine ****** yo last year.
There is a determination at the Vitality Stadium to have clarity on the player’s future as a matter of urgency. The club does not want uncertainty to carry into August and the start of the new Premier League season.

With Elliot Anderson now a Manchester City player, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders remain in the market for another midfielder. City signed Anderson from Nottingham Forest to fill a serious hole in their midfield. However, the consensus is that Enzo Maresca’s squad still needs one more quality midfielder. The only prominent midfielder who has consistently been named as a City target is Lille and Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. Has Manchester City settled on their next midfield target? It seems that way, as there are no serious links to any other midfielders from a Manchester City point of view.
Sam Lee has reported in the most recent Transfer DealSheet for The Athletic, that Manchester City like and admire Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. Furthermore, Lee reports that City have considered signing Bouaddi this summer and loaning him back to Lille. However, given how talented Bouaddi is, the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders are also considering signing Bouaddi and keeping him as a member of Enzo Maresca’s squad for next season. Interestingly, Sam Lee adds that City believes that Bouaddi could slot in at right-back if needed.
Outside of Manchester City’s continued reported interest in Ayyoub Bouaddi, it is all quiet on the midfielder front. Chris Wheeler has reported for the Daily Mail that City, alongside Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have an interest in signing Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The Cherries have no intention of selling Scott and are hoping to extend his contract which runs until 2028.
A Manchester City move for Ayyoub Bouaddi does seem like the most practical move at this stage. City will need to find Rodri’s long-term replacement, and Bouaddi seems to be the ideal player to be exactly this. Whether or not City can sign the Moroccan sensation from Lille remains to be seen. However, it is a move that makes sense. Given that Morocco remains in the World Cup with a quarter-final tie against France on the horizon, it is unlikely that there will be any further updates on Bouaddi’s future until Morocco’s participation in the World Cup is over.
Also, Manchester City have not been linked with any other midfielders of note. A City move for Alex Scott seems unlikely. Bournemouth do not wish to sell Scott and he may not fit Manchester City’s needs. It could also be a case of Manchester City’s next midfield target having not yet been revealed. Hugo Viana has a form for pivoting in the transfer market. Whether or not this will take place isn’t yet known.

Manchester United are ready to test Bournemouth’s resolve for Alex Scott, despite insistence from the Cherries that the midfielder is not for sale.
Scott has interest from a number of leading Premier League clubs with Manchester United having turned towards the 22-year-old in recent days.
After missing out on Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City respectively, United are exploring a deal for Scott.
BBC reporter Nizaar Kinsella has claimed that direct contact has been made with Bournemouth to discuss their demands for Scott this summer.
The Cherries are adamant that Scott, who is valued in excess of £60m at The Vitality Stadium, is not for sale. Bournemouth are working on a new contract for Scott and hope the offer of a release clause can persuade him to sign a new deal.

When Nathan Ake joined City from Bournemouth in August 2020, Pep Guardiola knew he was getting a proven Premier League player.
Men's Team
Ake, who had been a squad player at Chelsea, spending time on loan at Watford and Reading, had joined the Cherries in 2017 after a successful loan spell the season before and the Dutch star would go on to make 121 appearances for the south coast club over the next three years, scoring 11 times.
His first season with the Blues would be plagued by injury and he would make just 13 appearances.
It’s fair to say, however, that each time he played he impressed the City fans, even though his efforts to get a run in the team were continually hampered by fitness issues.

Manchester United have been forced to look beyond the Premier League as they ramp up their search for Casemiro's successor.
INEOS always favoured a Premier League-proven option to replace the Brazilian, but they have failed to land any of their top three targets: Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes.
Bournemouth's Alex Scott is the backup option, but the Cherries have raised his asking price, making it difficult for the Red Devils to seal the deal.
With Michael Carrick demanding three new signings to revamp the midfield, the co-owners have been forced to change their stance, with Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille emerging as the new primary target.
In fact, so enamoured are the 20-time English league champions that they have muscled their way to the top of the queue for the 18-year-old.

Bournemouth are in talks to sign Elche striker Alvaro Rodriguez for an initial fee of about £18m, rising to £25m with add-ons.
The 21-year-old would sign a five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium, although those involved in the negotiations say talks remain ongoing.
Real Madrid would receive 50% of any transfer fee for the Uruguay youth international, who is also eligible to represent Spain, after selling him to their La Liga rivals last summer.
Bournemouth are looking to strengthen their squad after qualifying for the Europa League with a record Premier League finish under Andoni Iraola, who left to become Liverpool manager.
Former RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund boss Marco Rose has succeeded Iraola, with the Cherries targeting a striker and a left-sided centre-back this summer.

The transfer market is waking up. Right on cue, Bournemouth find themselves fighting to keep hold of their brightest sparks after a stellar run to sixth place under Andoni Iraola. Word from the recruitment grapevine suggests a major scrap is brewing for Marcus Tavernier. Aston Villa and Fulham have already put down formal markers, asking the Cherries what it would take to pry him away from the Vitality Stadium. Then there is Liverpool.
Anfield scouts spent the final months of the campaign practically living on the south coast, taking detailed notes on the 27-year-old. Bournemouth hold all the aces right now, though. Tavernier signed a hefty contract extension keeping him tied down until June 2029.
Because of that security, the hierarchy won't even look at offers below £30m. Seven goals and four ******* ists in 34 top-flight games have inflated that price tag, capped off by a lovely finish against Nottingham Forest on the final day. He's a proper workhorse, the kind of left-footed wide man who triggers a press and leaves everything on the pitch.
BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND – APRIL 22: Marcus Tavernier of AFC Bournemouth warms up prior to the Premier League match between Bournemouth and Leeds United at Vitality Stadium on April 22, 2026 in Bournemouth, England. (Photo by Ryan Pierse/Getty Images)
Look at Villa's current squad. Do they actually need him? Unai Emery has to juggle Europe and domestic cups next term, sure, but the squad depth out wide isn't the issue. Morgan Rogers has been brilliant. His rise under the Basque manager has been nothing short of meteoric. Leon Bailey offers that raw, terrifying pace that stretches backlines in a way Tavernier simply can't mimic. Spending £30m on someone destined to sit on the bench looks like a massive waste of resources. However, it's a different case if Rogers is sold. Meanwhile, the money needs to go elsewhere.

Bournemouth President of Business Jim Frevola, says expanding the Vitality Stadium to 20,000 capacity is "all about" the community.
"I've been consistent in my time here that my biggest frustration is when people say they can't come to matches," Frevola told BBC Radio Solent.
"They can't bring their parent, spouse, partner or friends or especially their kids – we want to get that next generation of Bournemouth supporters here. It's not about bringing in folks from London or tourists, it's about bringing in the community that loves this football club and has loved it but can't always crack that 11,286 capacity.
"To get it to 20,000 is going to be a remarkable achievement for us and it's all about this town."
The expansion starts on the eve of a season where the Cherries will play European football for the first time in the club's history and when asked whether that makes it the right time, Frevola backed the decision by owner Bill Foley.

Manchester United are set to turn their attention to Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott after missing out on Mateus Fernandes. The Red Devils had earmarked Fernandes as a priority target to bolster their midfield, but after failing to land the Portuguese talent, recruitment chiefs at Old Trafford have identified Scott as an ideal alternative. Scott has flourished on the south coast since his move from Bristol City, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfielders. His ability to carry the ball, dictate the tempo, and contribute in the final third has caught the eye of United’s scouting department.
However, prising the ‘amazing’ 22-year-old away from the Vitality Stadium will be far from straightforward. Bournemouth are well aware of the growing interest in their prized **** et and are eager to secure his long-term future. The Cherries are pushing for Scott to sign a lucrative new contract, which would reportedly include a significant release clause – a move designed to protect his market value while providing a path for a future departure if their valuation is met. Bournemouth currently value Scott at around £80 million – a figure United are unlikely to meet as in their pursuit of Mateus Fernandes.
United also face fierce competition for Scott’s signature, with a host of top-flight rivals closely monitoring the situation. **** nal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, and Chelsea are all keeping tabs on the midfielder. Among the chasing pack, **** nal appear the most proactive, having already been directly informed of Bournemouth’s firm stance on the player’s valuation and contract situation. With the summer transfer window heating up, the race to secure one of England’s brightest midfield prospects is well underway, and United will need to act decisively to avoid another high-profile recruitment setback.

Manchester United have been forced to explore alternative midfield targets following their disappointing pursuit of Mateus Fernandes.
West Ham's asking price and Tottenham Hotspur's determination to win the race have crippled INEOS' dreams of landing the Portugal international.
The co-owners, who prefer Premier League-proven performers, have pivoted to Bournemouth's Alex Scott in case they end up losing the race.
The Englishman is not going to come cheap, with reports indicating the Cherries will demand at least £75 million to part ways with their talisman.
Multiple sides are monitoring the former Bristol City ace, but **** nal are thought to be United's biggest competition.

Liverpool are expected to be rather busy this summer.
The Anfield outfit have a lot of changes to make among their ranks if they want to be successful next season.
While in charge of Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola has exceeded expectations and, now that he has many more resources at his disposal fans are probably expecting a lot of him.
The Spaniard delivered plenty of success to the Cherries during his time as their manager and, since he's already convinced Richard Hughes to get a deal over the line for Victor Munoz, it's clear that he's going to have a massive say in the Reds' transfer plans.
And, since Liverpool must upgrade many areas of their squad this summer, it's clear to see why they're being linked with almost every player under the sun.
