To summarize my investment approach, I prefer to buy companies with long histories of dividend increases and historically high yields. Those two traits don't come around all that often, and sometimes I find clusters of stocks in specific sectors. I need to think specifically about diversification, one of the simplest and most effective ways to reduce risk. Here's how I've done it as I've built my portfolio of around 34 investments.
The Motley Fool recommends that investors own 50 stocks. That's a perfectly fine number, but also a lot of work. And just owning 50 stocks doesn't actually mean you are diversified. You could own 50 technology stocks, for example, which would leave you with exposure to just a single sector. That's not diversification. Diversification is really about owning a reasonable number of investments across a wide range of sectors and ****** et classes.

On Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, shares of electric-car maker Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) rose almost 6% to close at a record $695. More than 200 million shares changed hands that session (more than $131 billion of stock), making it one of the busiest trading days in the company's history.

This may come as somewhat of a shock, but the White Sox lost again Friday night. I know, who could've seen it coming that the team that has looked like a dumpster fire since late August would once again do everything possible to lose a game.
I don't even know how to feel, but I do know I feel numb. Just another game where the White Sox gave false hope, had plenty of opportunities to grab the win, and instead tripped over their own feet and got caught with their pants around their ankles.
It's usually a great sign to get a homer on the first pitch of the game, which Chase Meidroth did later than usual thanks to a 70-minute "rain delay" to start the game. That was followed by a Randal Grichuk double, six total bases on three pitches that got fans hopeful that the team wouldn't completely choke. Unfortunately, the starting burst was followed by a weak ground out and two awful at-bats that ended in strikeouts.
Say I'm a pessimist or "not a real fan," I don't care; anybody that's been following this team lately with a pulse knew what kind of game we were in store for. It was at that time I started checking the score of the Cleveland Guardians, game knowing what was bound to happen. Like a fool who believed in the White Sox, I also believed that maybe the Guardians wouldn't pull a win out of their hat late.
As we kept our eyes on the Cleveland score, the White Sox immediately gave back a run in the first. They never like holding a lead for long, and what are the White Sox if not predictable?

Charlie Sheen says one night out with Kiefer Sutherland eventually left him doing something considerably less entertaining, covering a bill of roughly $30,000.
The story returned to entertainment headlines after The Express reported on Sheen's account on Sept. 7. Sheen originally told the story months earlier on Just Foolin' About with Michael Biehn.
According to Sheen, he and his former co-star visited a hostess lounge where charges accumulated while women spent time at their table. Sheen said he settled his own tab but ultimately paid approximately $30,000 that he says remained on Sutherland's account.
Sheen says he later told Sutherland that he had handled the bill and expected to be reimbursed, but that the money never arrived.

It's important to remember that the strength of non-conference schedules can differ wildly from team-to-team. However, don't be fooled by thinking that an SEC team playing a lowly FCS program translates to piles of fantasy points for your respective players. Oftentimes the marquee players are on ice by the time the second half rolls around in these lopsided matchups.

Accordingly, I prefer to target players on respectable P4 offenses that have something to prove and are facing reasonably competent G6 opponents who can hang around long enough for the starters to stay in the game for three quarters. With that in mind, here are my starts and sits for college fantasy football Week 1.
In last year's Apple Cup, Williams eviscerated the Cougs, completing 16-of-19 passes for 298 yards with four passing touchdowns, while rushing for 88 yards and another rushing score. This prodigious production came against a credible Wazzu defense that allowed 20 PPG and 174 passing yards per game with 31 sacks. This year, Wazzu loses all 11 starters and bring in from Missouri new HC Kirby Moore, who is an offensive-minded coach. I expect the Huskies to do anything they want and give Wazzu a little extra since they're rivals and they want to score some style points in Game 1, meaning Williams should have another huge fantasy game in this year's Apple Cup.
West Virginia is going to run the ball with aplomb in Year 2 of the Rich Rodriguez resurgence in Morgantown. WVU went 4-8 last year as Rich Rod reorganized the roster in his visage, but this year the Mountaineers boast 120 line starts after portaling in four FBS starting offensive linemen and hiring OL guru Rick Trickett, which should greatly increase their middling 161 rushing yards per game average last year. For their part, CCU and new HC Ryan Beard are just serviceable enough to keep WVU's starters in the game until Q4. Accordingly, I prefer to target players on respectable P4 offenses that have something to prove and are facing reasonably competent G6 opponents who can hang around long enough for the starters to stay in the game for three quarters. With that in mind, here are my starts and sits for college fantasy football Week 1.
In last year's Apple Cup, Williams eviscerated the Cougs, completing 16-of-19 passes for 298 yards with four passing touchdowns, while rushing for 88 yards and another rushing score. This prodigious production came against a credible Wazzu defense that allowed 20 PPG and 174 passing yards per game with 31 sacks. This year, Wazzu loses all 11 starters and bring in from Missouri new HC Kirby Moore, who is an offensive-minded coach. I expect the Huskies to do anything they want and give Wazzu a little extra since they're rivals and they want to score some style points in Game 1, meaning Williams should have another huge fantasy game in this year's Apple Cup.
West Virginia is going to run the ball with aplomb in Year 2 of the Rich Rodriguez resurgence in Morgantown. WVU went 4-8 last year as Rich Rod reorganized the roster in his visage, but this year the Mountaineers boast 120 line starts after portaling in four FBS starting offensive linemen and hiring OL guru Rick Trickett, which should greatly increase their middling 161 rushing yards per game average last year. For their part, CCU and new HC Ryan Beard are just serviceable enough to keep WVU's starters in the game until Q4. That is important since CCU was gorged for 5.1 YPC and 208 rushing yards per game in 2025. The Tennessee ****** ans revoked Jared Stillman's credential. Depending on who you ask, this is either a franchise standing up to a loudmouth who dared them to do it, or an organization delivering a blueprint to other franchises on how to silence local critics.
Teams that travel this path usually end up with more negative coverage. You can't deliver a 6 and 28 record over two seasons, change your front office and coaching staff, and then complain about unfavorable attention. Winning changes the local conversation.
I went through this in St. Louis with the Rams and in the Bay Area with the Raiders. Kevin Demoff, Amy Trask and Marc Badain were all fantastic. All knew their results shaped the local coverage. Win games and people are happy. Lose games and fire people, and criticisms follow. It's that simple.

So, who emerged from this summer's worth of work looking better entering Week 1? Who isn't inspiring confidence?
Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab, Eric Edholm and Jori Epstein each pick one top winner and one top loser of the preseason.
Edholm's winner: I'll go with the Dallas Cowboys.
Although you could argue nothing dramatic has happened since the start of training camp, perhaps that's part of the reason why. The Cowboys have begun folding in their new defensive talent, and the early returns have been promising. The offense has picked up where it left off last season, and getting George Pickens' contract situation relatively settled has helped make that happen. Even Joe Milton has had some eye-opening moments in his bid to be Dak Prescott's backup. They've also had zero major injuries, which is always a win. The Cowboys look like a playoff team, even if feel-good camps and preseasons can sometimes be fool's gold.

Last week, authorities arrested Daejon Love on federal charges for allegedly defrauding over a dozen women out of 1.6 million dollars. Love posed as a San Francisco 49er on social media and claimed to be an undrafted wide receiver for the team.
Several videos of Love pretending to live an NFL lifestyle have come to light as the investigation continues; as serious as the implications are, media outlets such as the Speakeasy talk show have weighed in.
Former Philadelphia Eagles LeSean McCoy shared his opinions on the Love case via social media and wasn't afraid to share his admiration for the accused.
"I love Daejon Love, and let me tell you why. Every time a man does something they wanna crucify us for it. I watch women do this all the friggin time! You go to social media you see the girl, she got all these bags, Birkin this, Birkin that, nice house nice car all this stuff.
"Um, you know, she got this type of job ya know um, 'Im a self millionaire, I got all these things going on,' right, till you meet her, you date her and now it's your girlfriend and you like, 'oh she's been scamming me,' no she's not! The bags are fake…you don't have this luxury job and life that you say you do. Every day from now until the start of the season, Land-Grant Holy Land is highlighting Ohio State football players that you should be watching this season. Check out all of our "Player to Watch" articles to get ready for the season opener against Ball State.
The Buckeyes' transfer portal class this year was note-worthy, filled with veteran experience and players intended to meet an immediate need. But amidst the hullabaloo, they also made a quieter addition, snagging cornerback Dominick Kelly from Georgia.
Don't be fooled by the lack of buzz: While Kelly might not have the same proven production as his peers, he's no less intriguing. In fact, if his upside ends up being as high as it looks, Kelly could very well end up being the biggest steal in this year's portal class, becoming an enormous impact player for Ohio State in the long run.
As far as experience goes, Kelly has relatively little at the collegiate level. He appeared in 10 games for the Bulldogs last season as a reserve cornerback, logging three tackles and three pass breakups while allowing three catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.
It might not seem like much, but the fact that Kelly has any experience at all speaks to his potential. Elite programs like Georgia aren't in the habit of handing snaps to freshmen cornerbacks, so his 61 defensive snaps (according to Pro Football Focus) indicate the trust Kirby Smart and his staff had in Kelly.

DETROIT – How are hitters supposed to be able to figure out Tarik Skubal when his pitches sometimes even fool the Hawk-Eye technology that Statcast uses to measure spin and identify pitches?
The initial reading on Max Clark's fifth-inning, RBI triple was 99-mph sinker. It was quickly corrected to a four-seamer.
"His four-seamer was cutting like crazy," Clark said.
That could be the reason for the initial read of a sinker. It had that type of action.
"His sinker was really working," Clark said. "We'd talked before the game about how he'd gotten away from it once he went to LA. I don't know if they didn't like it as much or they were tinkering with it. But I got a couple of them."
